Pho was a 10 - and I LOVE that they have size options. I wish more places did that! The vegetable eggrolls were ok, but my friends liked them. If you prefer a thicker and stronger-flavored broth, this might not be your favorite. I recommend their lemongrass soup (bun bo hue). The noodles are thicker and chewier than standard pho noodles, and the soup has richer flavors. Great spot with quick service, low prices, and good Vietnamese food. We have been coming to Basil Leaf for years now and they are always quite good at quickly taking your order and getting the food out shortly thereafter. They are very knowledgeable about how to adjust each dish for food allergies and quick to fix any issues with the food if it's not exactly what you ordered or even when we forgot to include one modification. They provide all the traditional fixings with each dish and have several sauces on the table, as one would expect. The place is often packed with regular customers, but even when there's a wait it doesn't take very long at all since their service is so prompt. read more

Decided to take hubby here because he loves Pho and it was a cold day. Upon arrival we were shocked to see how packed it was and that we were put about 10th on the wanting list so we figured it was going to take a crazy amount of time to get in but to our surprise we were seated in about 10-15 minutes. Restaurant was nice and clean and the staff were super friendly and very fast. As soon as we were seated we were asked for our drink orders and shortly after that for our food order. Food took less than 10 minutes to come out and the Pho was everything my husband wanted and more. He was very happy with his Pho and Spring roll. I don't like Asian food so I decided to play it safe and just order a fried rice with grilled chicken. To my surprise the dish was very tasty and I can definitely see myself coming back to eat the fried rice again. I also ordered the strawberry lemonade and it was absolutely delicious. My first visit to this establishment was August 21, 2025. I joined a friend there shortly after the lunch hour rush. Even then, the parking lot was packed, which is a sign of what a popular place this is. There is good signage. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Menu has numerous choices. I had beef skewers with rice, and my friend had shrimp over rice noodles. We were both delighted with the entrées. Prices are very reasonable. Decor is relaxed with lots of natural light. read more

This place was very clean!! The parking could be a challenge, but they've got some parking spaces in the alley as well. We had spring rolls and pho, both of them are fresh and tasty. They are reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended for the cold days. read more

Very frustrating experience today. We arrived for dinner because we'd had good experiences here a few years ago. I have many allergens. The menu itself indicated that they use soy, soy milk, gluten, etc. And to ask and let them know about allergens to be accommodated. However, when we tried to tell the waiter, he seemed annoyed by us asking about it. Told us they use soy in everything. He left grudgingly to ask about it amd came back to say I could have the crepes. But then said all meat is marinated in soy or the other sauce that has wheat. So... I could have a crepe with nothing no it apparently. Thats it, the only gluten and soy free item in the whole establishment apparently. Basic, don't trust their we will accommodate you note, because they absolutely will not. It's not actually hard to serve me. Other places do it all the time by steaming my food or microwaving it and using what they haven't sauced-up yet. But not here. Also, it is epic levels of loud in here. We had to shout to be heard even across a small table. read more

I still do takeout here. I have started reviewing their menu online and ordering online, and thus my experience is more in line with what I see on the menu. My initial complaint was due to their curry options and yet they still have the same 3 options which confounds me - meaning that there is the curry broth (for lack of a better word) and then you can add pineapple, broccoli and/or bamboo shoots. This still boggles my mind as it is not curry as I know it --- but I have learned to order 2 items and then take it home as add whatever addtional things I think it needs. I also like that they have very reasonable priced broths available. The food is good, Prices are typical for ABQ I guess. Service - I feel they workers are overworked and they look it. Not one of them really similes or takes time to approach a customer is a relaxed manner. I get the idea that all the workers are family? They do better with more relaxed customer service. read more

Clay pot rice! All I have to say is so delicious! First time here and will be coming back on my travels. I love the rice towards the bottom of the clay pot was crispy with caramelized with the sauce. This place is busy. So I recommend coming early or coming in their off times. The wait staff is very nice and very accommodating. The rice was so good, I bout some lemongrass noodles and the beef jerky with papaya salad. The papaya salad had great flavor along with the shredded beef jerky, which reminded me of Vietnam. A great spot for Vietnamese food. This clean and cute spot has a large seating area for groups of all sizes. We ordered pho and vermicelli noodles and mango sticky rice for dessert. The soup came out very hot, the noodles were not overcooked, and the best part was the freshness of the basil and water sprout toppings. Paired with jalapeño slices and lime, of course. The flavor of the broth is so good! Just nutrient rich and tasty. The vermicelli noodles weee just as good. I would have liked more pickled veggies, but overall all the flavors blended together nicely. Lastly, we were served the mango sticky rice for dessert. Three words - clay pot rice! So good that I dream about this dish! Easily one of the best clay pot rice I've ever had! Highly recommend the special clay pot rice which is mixture of chicken, pork and shrimp. Restaurant is very busy. We were lucky to get a table since we came early for dinner. We ordered a bunch- my bf got pho with rare steak and the pork egg rolls, he loved both and enjoyed how spicy they made it on his request. I got the shrimp spring rolls and the lemongrass chicken sandwich. The spring rolls were big and came with peanut dipping sauce. I wish the spring rolls had mint and/or cilantro in them, they were just a little bland with shrimp, noodles and lettuce. The lemongrass chicken sandwich was amazing. Chicken was juicy and well seasoned. Loved that there were peanuts in it and the chili crisp I added made it perfect! Will definitely be heading back. We got our food to go, so the photo is not as pretty as I assume it would have looked inside the restaurant. read more

After scouring so many places I'd have to say this is the most Solid and consistent Vietnamese restaurant. Lots of options like most Asian restaurants but without sacrificing taste. Nice layout restaurant without feeling stuffy, especially when they're usually packed. Service could be more consistent, as sometimes they're attentive and bubbly, other times it looks like you're bothering them. Their bun Bo hue (Viet style) is good and not too spicy. Such an underrated dish as no one really order this over Phở. However, this is one of the very few places in ABQ that did this dish justice. Other recommended dishes are wonton soup, clay pot rice, broken rice combo, and bánh xèo (should be crispier, but the fish sauce is so balanced that makes every dip tasting perfect, tying all the flavor together). Totally Recommend trying this place first before trying the other Pho place in the area. read more

Food: Beef Spring Rolls: These big spring rolls are overfilled with noodles and could benefit from some more veggies. The sauce was too peanuty. Shrimp Egg Rolls: These were fairly crispy and I appreciate that it actually tasted like shrimp. However, the filling was very dense, like cooked shrimp paste. Shrimp & Chicken Crepe: These savory Vietnamese crepes are filled with your protein of choice, onions, and bean sprouts. They used fairly large sized shrimps. I just wish it was a little crispier. Beef Clay Pot: This had broccoli, mushrooms, and cashews mixed in. It was very tasty but maybe a little under seasoned. Viet Iced Coffee: Apparently, this is one of the best versions that my partner has had. It has a slightly nutty chocolatey finish. Service: 4 The servers were nice and patient with our questions. Food did not take too long to come out. Ambiance: 4 The restaurant is located in its own small plaza, but there isn't much parking for a fairly busy restaurant. Way more crowded than we expected for a Thursday evening - both with carryout orders as well as dine-in guests. Fortunately, that didn't slow down their staff! We were sat immediately and served just as quickly, and I really appreciated that the chairs had some cushion for a more comfortable dine-in experience. Tried the fresh spring rolls with pork plus small pho tai. The spring roll was good, but I think I would've preferred the shrimp, which is my usual. Even the small pho was too much food, and I'll be honest - the broth didn't do it for me. I liked the quantity and quality of the steak and veggies, but the broth was cloudier than what I've come to expect with my favorite pho joints. Excellent Vietnamese pho and quick service. The place does get busy but it does not stop them from delivering food on time each time. I love the chicken pho as it tastes like a more clear broth and adding the wontons are amazing. I get it with rice noodles as well. Thai tea was okay, needed to be stronger. I just moved to ABQ and Basil Leaf was close by and always looked busy so I decided to finally try it. The service was good and the place was spacious and clean but unfortunately the food was disappointing. The pho broth was bland and the noodles were mushy. The banh xeo was good but the fish sauce tasted watered down, which I assume is to cater to western palates and was a let down. I'm surprised at all the good reviews. Heard all good things about basil leaf, so we decided to pay it a visit today. The parking lot was full, but despite that we were seated immediately. It was a full restaurant and a bit loud, but there was enough help to take care of us all. We were brought water immediately as well once we were sat. It took a moment for the waitress to come... which was fine since we needed a moment anyways. We ordered and food was out in less than 10 min. Broth in the pho was savory and delicious! It's been awhile since dining here, and a few things have changed in the menu. Upon entering, they had a sign that said l stated that they're now doing automatic 18% gratuity of parties 5+. We were 3 adults and 2 small children, with 1 in a high chair. They were avle to seat us right away on a Saturday night. I've always been impressed about their fast service. Their menu updated prices and added a la cart prices if you want to add extras like different meats. I got the Regular/Medium Lemongrass Soup ($11.50) with Pork Blood ($2). I can't remember if the Vietnamese style (includes pork blood and pork feet) was cheaper before, but in other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to, they usually uncharged the "Vietnamese style" by $2-3. I'm still grateful they have that option though. It was very oily (normal), and flavorful, but mild. I Iike spicy, so I add extra jalapeños. I also asked for extra raw beef slices ($3) that you'd normally get with pho. The beef slices were thin and tender. I also ordered the Jackfruit shake (~$3), which was sweet and refreshing. Everyone else ordered pho. We got the kid's bowl ($8) for my 2 kids to share, a small ($10.50) and, a large combination bowl (~$18). Lol The kid's bowl was slightly smaller than the small. I got the toppings on the side and used them. The kids devoured it. The service was good. We got our food in a timely manner. We ordered to-go and thankfully we lingered bc the owner came up to us with a corrected bag. Somehow, the server delivered someone else's bag. It's not an authentic Asian restaurant if the owner isn't openly scolding their employees for a mistake. Lol Our bill included the automatic 18% gratuity. I just can't get enough Basil leaf. It's one of those joints that never ceases to amaze me with the efficiency of service & the delicious food! It is always busy, but seems there is always a table either available, or being wiped down for ya. This visit we deviated from our normal spring rolls, and we ordered the fried shrimp egg rolls for starters and my eyes rolled back into my head. Somehow these crispy delights taste similar to chicharrones! Thank you pork fat! With a blended shrimp filling and a nice sauce for dipping. Next up, Hubs and I shared the pad thai because it is HUGE (3 adult servings at least) and we enjoyed every morsel. But the best part is you don't leave feeling like you need a nap. It's been 3 years of visiting this place at least once per month and just realized I have never reviewed it. This was the first restaurant we visited when we moved here. Ever since this has been our greatest source of comfort food with their delicious pho. A regular plate should be enough but they do have a large one just in case you need a lot more pho. Their sandwiches are good, especially the one with grilled pork. If you want dry noodles with a lot of flavor, the grilled pork noodle bowl should satisfy your appetite. The pan seared fillet mignon is delicious and minimalist. And today, for the first time I had the sizzling clay pot with pork and it was to die for! Every server we have had is great, so great that some of them know our regular orders precisely. Food comes out fast every time! DO NOT COME HERE! My family and I used to love this place having consistently coming back for the pho, lemongrass chicken, and good service. We came back last night and the pho tasted like dirty laundry. I am not kidding. At first I ignored it, but as I began looking around the people in the front are dropping clean spoons onto the floor and wrapping them to serve to people. Our server was ridiculously rude. Not to mention she was cleaning off the tables and throwing the food onto other plates and our shoes. I am so disappointed in this place and have not experienced such a horrible dining experience.
