We have become first class pho critics. We have visited some 9 different pho restaurants or ordered delivery from since we relocated to Temecula in October 2022. Today we visited Pho Dao 1. Pho Dao 1 is located in a small strip center on Los Alamos and the 215. There is plenty of seating and perhaps the best service we have experienced of all pho restaurants. Given our choice of tables I stroll to the VIP table of course. Our server has water to us and includes a small pitcher as well. We keep it simple and both order Pho Ga and an order of shrimp spring rolls to split. Spring rolls are to the table lickety-split and also a peanut sauce for both of us. This is nice because we would attack each other if we only had 1 sauce. Sauce and spring rolls are tasty and without missing a beat our chicken pho struts to the table. The flavor of the pho is very good and they also have a large amount of noodles and vegetables for the pho. We both enjoyed the pho and rate it up with some of the better we have tried since moving back to Southern California. I give 4 stars due to them only taking cash or debit card (they also accept payment through Zelle) and we felt the soup was a bit smaller than other pho houses. We have been coming here for a very long time. We always order here, especially for their spring rolls (peanut sauce is delicious) and Bun Bo Hue. We just ordered egg rolls and spring rolls here as we felt a different vibe here. The spring rolls were made with old ingredients...you can see browning of the bean sprouts and old lettuce. The sauce for the spring rolls was thin. My husband had to add some hoisin sauce in it. The egg rolls were average. My husband said the fish sauce was good. Well, let me begin by the look of uncleanliness. I went for a late lunch and was the only customer inside the restaurant. There were three people working, one of which was a lady that seemed to be the owner. She was very unfriendly and acted as if waiting on me was a chore. Now the food, yuck. We Used to come here when I lived in Murrieta. Then we had to move to Nevada for work. Came back today and it was like we never left! The family is so friendly and always takes care of their customers! First off, the owner remembered us and remembered our usual order! Mind you, we've been gone for 2 years now. The ambiance was still the same welcoming place we remember. Secondly, the food is 2nd to none. My wife loves pho, we've had it everywhere across California and Nevada. No one comes close to Pho Dao. The spring rolls, the pho tai, and their fried rice are all top notch. Lastly, what brings us back is the family atmosphere. When you come here, the owner makes you feel like you're a part of the family. She's been like that since they moved here 15 years ago, and continues that to this day. So upset!! Another family came in right after us, everything was good, we ordered and then one of the small children spilled their water, something that happens all the time with little ones. The owner then told the parents that they needed to control their children. By the way the children were very well behaved. The owner ended up refusing to service the family. I cannot believe what happened! We told our server to cancel our order and we left. The family that was kicked out had done nothing wrong and I could not believe they were treated this way. Pho Dao is a delicious family owned hole in the wall! My husband and I were greeted by the owner and her son (Kenny) and immediately seated. Water came out quickly and our order was taken. Food was absolutely delicious, best Bun Bo Hue I've ever had. I'm speaking with the owner she explained that it's a family recipe that was from the providence she grew up in Vietnam. The pork cha lua was a nice touch and the meat was nice and flavorful. Tendon was on point, not chewy at all. Hands down coming back for this. My husband had the Pho Dac Biet and he loved it as well. I took my eye away from him for a second and when I looked over, his food was already halfway gone! I observed Kenny wiping down and sanitizing tables (gives me a piece of mind because covid) and the owner was a delight to talk to. Pictures have numbers since I don't remember the specific names of each dish. We stopped by Friday night at around 7 and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away and given menus, water, and any other drinks we liked. Our server was very quick and kind! In fact, it was so refreshing to hear them talking with customers that I assume were regulars. They were so friendly and truly felt like they knew and cared about those customers. Our food came out fast, hot, and delicious! The spring rolls were crispy and juicy while still hot. I love that they came with pickled veggies on the side too! I tried the chicken (45) my brother ordered, and it was juicy with a slightly charred flavor. It was especially good dipped in the fish sauce. I also had a bit of the cold noodle salad (69), which was delicious! It felt very refreshing and easy to eat. I had the soft egg noodles with lots of veggies mixed in. We were definitely not impressed at all, I had high hopes for this place, but it failed to meet even my lowest expectations. I was always under the impression that all pho places were about the same, this was definitely not the case here. Although we were seated quickly at about 7:30 PM, the first turn off for me was when the waiter came to take our order, he immediately started to discourage me from ordering a BBQ steak summer roll because it would take "too long"! He said it would be 20-25 minutes and if we didn't want to wait that long, then order something else. Ok. Maybe they didn't want to put in the extra effort since it was later at night? We order fried tofu summer rolls (they also didn't have fried tofu as an appetizer), two rare steak pho, and fried spring rolls. Their menu is super limited and not much choices for appetizers compared to other restaurants and they also don't give you an option for the size of your pho. Another turn off was if I order a rare steak pho, it would be nice to get the steak on the side, not already cooked in the broth...that kind of defeats the purpose. The broth is always my favorite part and although it had good flavor (not the best), it was so oily that my lips were slicked with oil. The tofu in the summer rolls were dry, chewy cardboard, and the fried spring rolls were decent. I would like a full lettuce leaf to wrap it in instead of chopped up lettuce on a plate. The icing on the cake was when one of their employees sat down at what looked to be their "break table" that was front and center. She sat down to have her own personal dinner from the kitchen at a table that had snacks, vitamins, cough drops, a laptop, a bunch of chargers plugged in, etc...I was shocked. First time eating at this restaurant. We were greeted and seated promptly. Only one other table was seated. Several people came every few minutes to pick up to-go orders while we ate, which was promising. Our waiter was casually dressed and quickly asked if we were ready to order and brought us waters. He also brought Capri Suns for our girls even though we didn't ask for anything other than water. It was a nice gesture. Our order was taken by the same young man and an older woman was next to him and she repeated the order before she left. The menu included home style Vietnamese food. Unfortunately, food items were crossed out with black sharpie throughout the menu. It would be nicer if the menu was redone, but maybe it's not their priority. The restaurant appeared clean and I saw the young man quickly clean up and thoroughly wipe down a table when guests left. An older gentleman brought our food out right away. I asked him what the clear sauce was and all I understood was to put it on the food. I wanted to know how to eat the food correctly so I asked the older woman about the soup and mystery sauce. The older woman was kind when I asked her about it. She explained that I should add white rice to the soup, so I did. It was something I wouldn't have tried on my own, but it was good. The clear sauce was to dip the egg rolls in and use with the salad. The soup and dinner plate cost about $21 with only waters to drink. My bbq chicken was a bit dry and I thought it needed to be seasoned, but there was no salt to be found anywhere... the mystery clear sauce helped. This place makes great food;however, it is a little confusing to order (if you are ordering by phone). Due to individual on the phone sounding very rude (might've been the culture) as she stated they did not take credit. Mind you I had not ordered. I simply asked about pho beef options I was told to look up pho options on internet then call back with number item there was no goodbye then hung up on me (again maybe culture thing?) I called back to order by number on menu as instructed. My food was done on time and when there was an issue with a missing item they made it immediately.
