After moving to seattle, I really miss viet food in massachusetts. I came for dinner on a Friday and there was no wait for a party of 2. The restaurant is pretty big and there is parking outside. The broth is umami and savory, the meat isn't overcooked, and the noodles were cooked well. The spring rolls were fresh and the peanut sauce that came with it was yummy. Despite the amazing experience I had here 8 months ago, our visit didn't go quite right today! 1) Service: despite repeatedly mentioned what we needed, the extra broth that I asked for came as a completely different broth! Secondly, they served the rice without fish sauce for my daughter! After waiting for a while, we asked for it and the waitress completely forgot. Thirdly, I mentioned at least 3 times about Thai bubble tea!! After a while, taro bubble tea was served to us! Even if the waitress was new, I have seen at other places where a more tenured staff would be with the new one during training to ensure smooth experience with the customers. It was not busy and there were a lot of waiters standing in the back so I am not sure where the mishaps came from 2) Food: at a pho restaurant, it is extremely hard to go wrong with pho! It is fundamental! Especially when we only asked for a kid pho (which is just broth and noodle)! We've been coming to Pho Countryside for years, but unfortunately it must be said that the portion sizes have been getting way too small while the prices are only increasing. Inflation makes sense and is of course out of their control. However $17.95 for a rice plate that's only been added more rice and a handful of pork and shrimp paste is hard to justify. Also, it was $7.95 for just two skewers. We love their food and find it delicious, but these prices are crazy for these tiny portions. Very reliable pho place with quick service and delicious food. It is a little more expensive than some other pho restaurants (my pho in a small size was 14.50) but the price is reasonable. The soup is also a little oilier than I am used to but the flavor is strong and delicious even without sauce. I also loved the ample amount of veggies they gave. read more

Dropped in for some pho at Pho Countryside did not disappoint. Nice quaint hole in the wall restaurant with delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Our go-to. Clean, well lit with comfortable seating. Service was excellent. Attentive, friendly, courteous and polite. We ordered roasted marinated squad, fresh spring rolls, scallion pancakes for appetizers. While Pho Pasteur still reigns supreme, I can't deny that Pho Countryside delivers a solid and respectable bowl of pho. I ordered a small D1 - "Special Combination Noodle Soup with Eye Round Steak, Flank, Brisket, Tendon, and Tripe." The broth was savory, had a pleasant, gentle sweetness, and acceptable saltiness (I prefer less salt - but that's a personal preference). The meats were solid, and were provided in more-or-less reasonable amounts. Where it comes to the veggies, I loved the use of onions and cilantro (you can see why I love tacos!) Beans sprouts are served on the side to be used at your leisure. However, on the flip side, I was not a big fan of the noodles; nothing wrong with them, just not my favorite type(?) I have no complaints about the service. It was attentive and relatively speedy. It was not the two minutes of Pho Pasteur, but also not a case where I'm sitting, tapping my foot thinking "where's my dang food?!". The value was fair as well, even the "small" bowl was filling, and came in under $20 ($17-ish after tax, if memory serves). One final note: Pho Countryside needs to update their website, as it has been at least five years. It lists old prices, and red on dark green is difficult to read. read more

Amazing Vietnamese place in Quincy! We got the spicy beef pho and steamed vermicelli and they were both fantastic and hit right at the spot. The portions are huge! Service was quick and staff were friendly. The restaurants has ample indoor seatings, and a small bar in the corner. Haven't been here in awhile and we were around the area. We already knew what we were going to order. Shaking beef and bun Bo hue. I remembered both of these dishes were amazing back then. Price definitely increased but quality, quality didn't! The shaking beef was well flavored. Rice to beef portion was very generous. The beef was tender, also. Bun Bo hue was a little sweet but the flavor was definitely amazing. It was spicy and sweet. Also generous with their portion. Gave me two pigs feet and whole bunch of meat. The BBH was a little watery and had to add some satay to give it a little kick. Outside of the pork hock, the my had some odd additions. Meatloaf instead of a fish cake, beef brisket which is not usually in BBH and didn't have beef shank or shin meat. For wifey's noodle bowl, she said the noodles didn't have enough time to dry but was freshly dunked into hot water and made it stick to everything. The positive was the fried bean curd with shrimp paste. Ever since anh hong closed, this was pretty solid. Wow, how times have changed...I laughed out loud upon re-reading my original 2015 review of this place which mentioned a $9.50 bowl of XL rice noodle soup as being on the pricey side. Well, guess what? Eight years and one pandemic later, that XL bowl of rice noodle soup is now a whopping $18.95!!! (Their website's menu is outdated, claims it's just $10.95) Perhaps that is why when we came in just an hour before closing time on a recent Saturday night, we were shocked to find ourselves to be the only customers. Mind you, the place still has lovely ambiance/decor, with service and food still pretty good, maybe about 7 out of 10. My pho was pretty good, the broth was sippable on its own with the help of just a little of the brown sauce and a squirt or two of the hot sauce. They don't give you much basil or other aromatic greens, nor do you get any slices of fresh jalapeno unlike other VN places. Similarly, my friend's pork chop rice plate had more rice than meat compared to other similar restaurants...I'd like to think that they were simply running low on pork in their kitchen due to the late hour when we came, although any Asian restaurant ever running low on pork seems frankly bizarre if you think about it, lol. But at prices like these, I will drive 15 minutes north to Dorchester for better Vietnamese food AND better prices. Don't know if they've had a change in ownership as has happened to many restaurants during/after the pandemic, but sheesh. read more

Pho Countryside offers Vietnamese cuisine, tucked in Quincy's Presidents Plaza where there's a handful of Asian restaurants + supermarket to shop at. Some people love Pho Couuntryside's food, some people do not... for me, I have to say, there are much better places around to get a bowl of pho, a rice plate, or anything that is offered on their menu. Their food is not the worst though. Consistency is something that I find this place struggles with & service is super hit or miss. Some days, you could go in, get seated, and a server gets your order + serves your food in timely manner. Most times, the servers will neglect you and by the time you order and waiting for your food to come out, it will take a while. Pho, or any of their noodle soups typically do not take long at all at most places because the broths are made ahead of time so prep wise, they just have to add your noodles in, as well as meats. Furthermore, in terms of flavor, it does lack a bit for most dishes. When I do dine here, I only get the bun rieu, tomato broth noodle soup with crab. They make their bun rieu pretty good here and have enjoyed it just about every time I have ordered it. Not a bad place to come for a quick fix of Vietnamese food but also not my first pick or first place that comes to mind when I am craving. The food here is deserving of a four star review at least. I decided to order the I7 rice plate and was surprised at how much flavor was packed into every bite of meat. The shrimp paste somehow steals the spotlight away though being crispy but chewy at the same time. The Thai tea was also the perfect amount of sweet and really refreshing. The reason this gets a 3 star review though is because the ordering process was extremely frustrating with me having to repeat my order multiple times. My Favorite Pho Place!!! I have been coming to Pho Countryside for many years. It has always been good but has constantly gotten even better. The service has always been great and the Pho, delicious. My only regret is that I don't live close enough to partake in a cocktail with my meal. I lived in Allston in the 80's during its hey day of Vietnamese restaurants and frequented many. This dish used to be my favorite dish at the restaurant and they used to have one of the best bun rieu around. We are regulars here - food is delicious and affordable. Pho is a no brainer to get here but there's a variety of other options. The seafood noodle soup (Hu Tieu) and their vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and crispy egg rolls (Bún thịt nướng chả giò) are both winners. Apologies if I misspelled!! Staff are very friendly and willing to help. You never wait long for food. Kids love the boba drinks there and the Vietnamese ice coffee is excellent. My husband and I were cold and hungry from pre Christmas prep and supplying, we spontaneously decided to go in for a quick bite! Our server was very friendly and quick! We both ordered the bun thit, I got the bun thit cha gio and he got the bun thi nem nuong. Both our sides were really over cooked and dried... the vegetables and vermicelli portions were good. Next time I will order just the thit nuong. It was super thin and soft and flavorful. I like my meat to be well marinated and a bit on the sweeter side. I love their pho sate because it's different- comes with watercress, cucumbers and tomatoes. Our recent visit tasted a little different. I think they changed their sate/hot oil. The broken rice itself is good, but the grilled pork chop was a little too salty. Sadly, like most Vietnamese restaurants, service is poor or nonexistent. Came here for lunch and since the last time we were here, they've had some interior renovations which brought out a nicer atmosphere. Our waitress was professional and attentive to how we were progressing in our meals, which was great. Saw they had a special - fresh cane juice. Had to order it and it was just that - freshly squeezed cane juice and nothing else and if you've never had this, the natural sweetness coating your tongue and texture swishing around your mouth are unforgettable. The portions are still massive, especially the appetizers, such as the pork and shrimp salad (just as tasty as before) which should be an entrée for its mountainous size and plethora of ingredients. If I were by myself, I would be happy ordering only this. Although the marinated roast quail wasn't at all spicy and was on the saltier side, it was still cooked nicely and a fair tenderness and chew. We also opted for one of the healthier options for a change - the sweet and sour soup. While this was meatless, it was basically offset with the amount of veggies, tofu and pineapple along with the sweet and sour broth. Another delicious visit here! Pho was great. Got D7 (eye round steak and tripe). Noodles were plentiful and al dente. Steak was thin and tender. Tripe added a great texture to the noodles. I use to love this place but not anymore!!! I called in for pick up 20 mins before I arrived, ended up waiting for half hour and 2 mixed phos are all I ordered. I understand that sometimes it's busy and obviously you have to wait for your order, but the guy at front doesn't even care so much about people waiting for take out orders but seems to be very friendly and passionately welcoming those who are eating in. On top of that, the food quality is SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!!!! I went home with my order it's just a 10 mins drive, but when I open it the soup is cold, noodles are hard and even a little chewy which is not suppose to happen, feels like it's not fully cooked and I had to microwave it myself just to make it hotter and eatable. And what happened today is not just a one time thing, it happened every time I went there for my most few recent visits.
