We got the pho dac biet (beef broth and noodles with eye round, brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe), bun bo hue (spicy, hearty noodle soup with noodles in fragrant lemongrass beef and pork) and com ga nuong (grilled chicken with rice, cucumber, carrots, radish). All dishes were sooo flavorful and the portions were quite generous. It is worth the drive out here for delicious Vietnamese food. The food here continues to improve by leaps and bounds. Their summer rolls are wonderfully fresh, and if you ask, they will serve with fish sauce and chopped peanuts (essentially Cambodian-style, where summer rolls are called nime chau). The pho is superb and comes in 3 different sizes. Also, their shrimp salad is spot on, with lots of shrimp and lots of crunch. The wait staff are super friendly, and always welcoming. I also think their ban cheu (stuffed crepe loaded with goodies, and served with lettuce leaves and fish sauce) is the best in the area, and highly recommended. Growing up, my family always ate at pho hoa (in dorchester). With vietnamese food now trending in the foodie world, many places readjusted to the western palate. It's honestly sad to see how saturated the Vietnamese food market is in Boston but how much of it isn't really truly as authentic as it can be. Enter Pho So 1 Randolph. They've been true to themselves since day one and now it will forever be my favorite go to spot! The taste is almost exactly like home, or as close as can be with the ingredients we have access to. The portions are not skimpy, you're actually comfortably full or even have left overs to enjoy after. The fresh veggies are actually fresh and they give you more than just a handful. The staff are friendly and quick to assist. My favorite dishes here are: pho tai gan (eyeround steak and tendon), pho tai bo vien (eyeround steak and meatball), bun bo hue (spicy beef vermicelli soup), banh mi bo kho (beef stew w/ vietnamese baguette), banh hoi thit nuong (vermicelli paddies w/ grilled pork), muc chien gion (crispy fried squid w/ rice), and all their drinks are delicious (my go to is durian or coconut smoothie)! Some of my friends (who are not vietnamese) do prefer places like pho countryside, pho 86, and pho hoa - which I get. They are pretty generous with the filling of the Tau Hu Ky, most places put a paper thin amount of shrimp paste but theirs is quite thick. Not sure if this Pho So 1 is the same as the one in Quincy, but this one is so much better! The menu is a bit different so I was not sure if they have any relation to each other. I ordered the catfish clay pot, a rice plate, as well as an avocado smoothie, and pineapple smoothie. We did start with egg rolls for an appetizer, which was yummy. The catfish was delicious with the sauce that I could not help but dress onto my rice. I finished all of my rice, which is super rare. The rice plate was also made well. The pho here is not my favorite, something a little lacking in the flavors compared to the other pho that I have had. But the bon bo hue, was pretty good - loved the generous amount of meat in there and just overall size of the bowl. Squeeze some lime juice in there and it really balances out the flavor. The pho's XL is no joke - massive. We usually finish our pho but this time we had to take it home. We visited this spot during one of the frigid "feels like Antartica" days and boy did the soups hit differently then. There is table service but its kinda like pick your own seat and someone will come by with a menu and hot tea - I love places that serve you tea. The venue has a hole in wall type feel with modern signage (see my photo). I ordered yellow curry stir fried with chicken and white rice and it came to $17, which I thought was a bit overpriced since it's outside of Boston. The portion was big but I didn't really like my dish at all, I'm not sure if what I ate was standard or if I just had a bad dish. The stir fry texture was very slimy and made finishing my plate a chore. I had plenty left over in the tray, but probably won't be finishing it. I have heard good things about this place and wasn't disappointed. Lots of parking and a nice clean environment inside. Got the pork chop and fried pork cake plate. Food is good and flavorful but u just need to watch what's n the grilled meats. I found a wire from the brush they use on the grill n my meat only after I bit it, pulled it out my mouth and it was about an inch long piece of wire. I informed the waitress and offered a replacement meal and took my plate for a new plate n which when they returned with a "fresh" plate only to see the same pieces of meat that was on my previous plate wit a new serving of the fried pork cake and new bed of rice after offering a replacement plate. We ordered two orders of Spring Rolls, Fried Chicken Wings, Grilled Sliced Pork Rice Plate, X-Large Special Combination Pho, and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. For appetizers, we always order two orders of the spring rolls. We normally order the roasted quails but we were more in the mood for fried chicken wings. The fried chicken wings were very yummy but I prefer the roasted quails. For main dishes, the grilled sliced pork rice plate is a go to order. The entire dish balances out very well. The rice with the meat and pickled carrots blend perfectly. The pho is amazing. The meat is tender and soup is addicting. The bean sprouts are also very fresh. The meat in the beef noodle soup wasn't the best but the noodles and soup itself were good. We were stuffed by the end of our meal. The food was too good, we couldn't stop eating. Like most Vietnamese restaurants, this place is super casual and laid back. If you're looking for attentive service and being checked in on, this is NOT the place for you. We had #3 (Fresh Sour Grilled Ground Pork Spring Rolls) as our appetizer. The spring rolls come with a fantastic peanut sauce. The one downside of this experience is that I found a hair in the peanut sauce when dipping my spring roll in (YUCK- automatically deduct a star). Just make sure when you are eating you are paying attention to what you are putting in your mouth. My dining companion and I both got Vermicelli bowls. They were very large bowls that were filled to the brim. I got the one with grilled chicken and spring rolls. There was a lot of grilled chicken and then one spring roll. The other one was the flat fried shrimp cake and grilled pork. Both bowls were very flavorful. With the 2 vermicelli bowls and an appetizer of the spring rolls our bill was $33 with tip, not a bad price at all for the food we got.
