I really wanted to like this place. We've tried it twice, hoping the first bad experience was a fluke. Each time, there was no one else there and yet not even one clean table. Dirty dishes, half eaten food and crumbs on EVERY table. We had to go up to the counter and ask them to clear a table so we could sit. The nice young woman did so cheerfully but I noticed she took no effort to clear any other tables. We ate in the midst of all of the other mess. Not cool. I guess it made me wonder what the kitchen looked like if the public area was unclean and unattended. All in all, on both visits, my meal was only barely edible and my husband said his was 'ok'. The food was mediocre at best, but the service was good. The appetizer and entrees came out fast, but I was disappointed in the dishes that came out. The peanut sauce that goes with the summer rolls looked like microwaved peanut butter. It lacked the blended sweetness of the hoisin sauce. The Pho was bland!! It lack an aroma that lets you know that you're eating Pho. It could use a lot of different ingredients when making the broth (ie anise stars, roasted ginger, roasted onions) or maybe cooked a lot longer to get more flavors. This nice little family place was a surprise find for me. I went with my favorite Pho Tai Bo Vien and it perfectly satisfied my cravings. The broth is a bit on the fatty side, but extremely easy to enjoy none the less, with a full brothy palate and some fresh ground black pepper, which was a nice surprise. Food is is really tasty. The family that runs the restaurant is really nice, and when you become a regular they really treat you like family. That said, new arrivals may be put off by the sometimes unattended to service. Usually this is because the servers are the children and they are doing homework at the same time ;) Doesn't matter, just ask for 2 glasses of water up front, and don't be afraid to get into a little banter/discussion with them, they don't mind talking if you are friendly. But its all worth it for the FOOD! Make sure you add your toppings to the PHO, and the vermicelli. And this one is surprising....my favorite chicken wings are here....order the Tamarind wings, and save the sauce to add to your vermicelli bowl as an extra topping. Enormous and comprehensive menu. The family is very friendly and extremely hard-working. I have never had anything there that I did not like. This family is The American Dream, realized, and I'd go back almost every day if I could. Don't expect it to be the "fast food 'experience' " - everything is homemade from scratch every day. Got the shrimp Pho, it was delicious but portions were too small. The shrimp fried rice wasn't very impressive. Service was awful! It seemed to be family run, with the children doing the serving, it took about 20 minutes for them to even take our order. Very cramped, with no personal space, and the door slams loudly every time someone enters or exits. Not an enjoyable dining experience at all. Will not be going back. read more

Small, cozy, almost a hole in the wall. Very unassuming from the outside, but great food once you're in the door. I had the stir fried lemongrass tofu & vegetables. Veggies were crisp tender, noodles al dante, tofu fried crispy. I had been in the mood for a healthy vegetarian dish and this place was perfect! Flavors were great, servings were big. It could have been served a little hotter, but other than that it was all perfect. Staff was pleasant, service was fast, prices very reasonable. I've only been to a few pho joints, but this is by far my favorite. I was elated to find a small parking lot around the corner to avoid a dreaded parallel parking attempt and expensive meters. This is a family business, and that alone makes the dining experience unique and cozy. I ordered a regular serving of pho, which... was huge-- I can't imagine downing the large. It's best to go on an empty stomach... and make sure you have room for spring rolls (they're a must have). It does get extremely busy on the weekends, so if you're looking to dine-in, make it an early visit... or get their take-out. read more

Wow, Great Pho in York. Some of the best Pho anywhere. As good as any in Little Saigon in Westminster CA. I have had Pho in many places and this is really great. I am not sure why it is in York but it is a great find. I did not have anything but the Pho but I believe that Pho is a good test so I would think everything else will be great. read more

Yummy! This place is outstanding! The spring rolls are delicious on a hot summer night. Try the iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk for an after dinner caffeine and sugar fix. They have all varieties of pho as well as other traditional dishes ( the roast pork with spring rolls is fabulous!). The ambience is a little lacking and to be honest the only reason it isn't five stars is because I deducted a star for the gaggle of kids gathered around the TV in the dining room watching cartoons and playing video games. read more

Pho Bistro is very family oriented and everyone is very friendly there. The food is so good. Never had a bad thing. The first time I went to Pho Bistro was this past winter. The one night we got a bad snow in York and my girl and I were trying to find a place to eat. Everywhere was closed and I came across Pho. So I called and asked if they were open. They said they were gonna close but would stay open if we were coming in. So we got in my jeep and went and had an excellent meal. They were very kind to just stay open for us. They closed after we left and we thanked them for the great food and for staying open for us. read more

I'm no stranger to pho, and I came to this place because of its great reviews. TERRIBLE customer service. We got our food in a very timely fashion, although whatever brat relative they had "serving" us desperately needed to leave us alone. She was consistently scrutinizing us and treating us like a couple of her ill-mannered teenaged friends. At one point, she told my boyfriend that he looked impatient and that he will "order last." At the end of the night, the food was good, but this caustic, immature child killed the experience. The owners should think twice before employing their socially inept children. read more

Our family loves Pho Bistro. We have learned about the different dishes, and the food is fresh and flavorful. Love the crispy spring rolls! A few months ago, while I was having my nails done at a local Vietnamese nail salon, I told the owner I dearly love Pho; it is without a doubt Vietnam's culinary masterpiece. He surprised me when he excitedly told me a Pho restaurant had opened up in York City and the Pho is great! Of course, I flew right out of the salon, thinking only about Pho, as I sped down the roads of York county anticipating a bowl of Pho---rice noodles in a rich beef stock with sliced meats and sides of fresh vegetables. It is a meal in a bowl, second to none when made properly. Upon arriving at this quaint family run restaurant, I was greeted by the owner. I told him I had had Pho many times and he proudly told me his Pho is wonderful. Without a doubt this is one of the best Phos I have ever had, if not the best. The stock is intensely rich and---really---Pho is all about a fantastic stock. Pho Bistro has a full menu from appetizers to Pho to entrees and desserts as well as a wonderful array of Vietnamese drinks. York City is truly blessed to have this gem of a restaurant! read more

Pho Bistro is a casually intimate (read: family feeling) restaurant right inside the city. It's relative location isn't that bad, it's right off Market on your way outside the city. I've been inside a few times to sit down and eat, though I normally order take-out for lunch because I'm lazy and forgetful. Everything I've had thus far has been delicious (curry chicken and rice, pho for sit down and take out, spring rolls, stir fried vermicelli, stir fried rice), nothing to complain about there. The food doesn't take too long to get if you're ordering take-out, though it seems that when one eats in at the restaurant itself, it does take a bit longer...like it's deliberate, though not in a malicious way. It feels as if they're wanting you to relax, space out or talk to someone if you're there with other people. Basically, you shouldn't feel rushed if you're there because the owner (and his kids/whoever is seating and taking orders and whatnot) don't seem to be rushed, either. If you already like Vietnamese food, definitely hit this place up. If you don't know if you like Vietnamese food, give it a go, though don't order anything too exotic -- stick with fried rice or fried vermicelli, maybe one of the non-pho soups. read more

Really good Pho. I travel a lot and sometimes have a craving for Pho, but not every town has it. This little gem is awesome. I also had the pork spring rolls. The servers are not awesome, but they are not bad either, Kinda meh, but the food was awesome, and for the price, who can complain. My bill only came to $13 read more

The best Pho I have ever tasted!!!!!!! The much needed experience anyone could have. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the amazing owners/workers. They make sure everyone is taking care of in order of first come first serve which is so fair to their guest. Food takes about 15-20 minutes to prep and be on the table (depending on the full house). When the food arrives it is hot and beautiful. You can see the perfection they put towards the creation of deliciousness. I come all the way from Bowie Maryland for some Pho Bistro!!
