This was my first time having Pho. Let me tell you, that thanks to Pho Bistro, it won't be my last. For some reason, I've got a knack for finding great meals in hole in the wall restaurants. It never fails; someone will say "Let's go get food, I know a great place" and it's always some corner spot, with paper napkins, and plastic drink cups. These always turn out to be the best places to get authentic, quality meals. Pho Bistro was all that in spades. No atmosphere, no music, and no frills equaled generous, tasty portions, with relatively prompt, accurate service. I can't tell you what I ordered for dinner. Mostly because I can't pronounce it. It was soup, with clear, egg, and rice noodles. It had shrimp, beef, pork, and chicken. It was amazing. I spiced that badboy up with fish sauce, the hot pickled relish, and a little bit of the cock sauce ::Insert Peter Griffin giggle here:: and BOOM....awesome soup. We had the steamed shrimp rolls to start. They were well prepared, and I think I expected something different in the way of favor. If you didn't put anything on them, or use the peanut cream sauce they came with, they'd be awfully bland. The cream sauce was excellent, especially once we mixed in some of the hot relish. I wanted to eat it with a spoon, but I was chided by the wife for acting like a heathen. The prices didn't murder my wallet either. Pho Bistro is totally on my list of favorite local places now, and I will be back! read more

In my opinion the food here is 5 stars but overall experience is only a 4 for me. It is a small family owned restaurant where I sometimes question the cleanliness and those waiting tables are sometimes a little too laid back. I've actually had to wait for them to finish eating before they felt it was necessary to wait on me. Back to the important part, the food. I have never had anything I did not like here, although I have to admit I usually get pho. I've tried the coconut curry chicken which has been on there special board the last few times I've been there, and it was fantastic. I always start off with the shrimp spring rolls. Those along with the peanut sauce is delicious. I've also had the crispy spring rolls which are also fantastic. I love this restaurant, its a great small business that is family owned. The servers are the kids of the owner. When some customers questioned the kids working, the father/owner started posting the kids report cards so you can see that their grades/education comes before their work at the restaurant! Yes the service is a little slow but this is not fast-food, its food that is carefully cooked and the kids are sometimes working on homework so give them a break if they don't see you waiting for drink refills, just flag them down. Enough of this get the to the food! I loooooove everything I've tried here, from the durian fruit drinks, the awesome iced coffees & teas (try it with boba!), the jullienne rolls with shrimp, the crazy chicken wings, every kind of pho they have! The pho dinners come with big plate of super fresh thai basil, lime, bean sprouts, so crunchy so fresh! Every time I don't feel like cooking and don't have a specific food to eat, everyone agrees Pho Bistro is where we can all find something to eat , I love this place! PS. I went to Pho Bistro for my first pho experience. I thought that the food was just ok but the service was awful. My husband and I shared spring rolls and I got the shrimp pho. My broth was nearly tasteless and the shrimp was over cooked. Spring rolls were good and I really liked the peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls. We went on a Thursday night, so the place was not busy. Seemed to me that the register was completely run by 2 incompetent teenagers, one of whom did not know how to act in social situations and was making inappropriate comments about the customers, trying to pass it off as a joke. Both teenagers were fascinated by adding food coloring to milk, while neglecting their hungry customers. I felt very awkward and pretty irritated the entire time. We won't be going back for a dine in experience anytime soon. read more

3 1/2 stars (4 1/4 for those who are really into Vietnamese fair) Let me come out and say that Vietnamese is probably not my favorite of the asian food styles. I am always somewhat lackluster with regards to Pho. And that does somewhat influence my review. Pho Bistro is an ethnic restaurant that caters to it's own crowd. In other words, this is no fusion restaurant filled with yuppies. Rather, most of those eating in the restaurant were of east asia descent. And you'll find beverages offered that you'd never see in a typical restaurant (ie: things with floating lychee, or drinks made out of stuff we'd consider more akin to pond growth). I actually tried the salty lemonade. My wife hated it it, I found it somewhat fascinating. But could not decide if I liked it or not. I believe it'd made out of pickled lemon rind. It was definitely worth trying at least once - just for the experience. We did have some pho. The broth was tasty. But I've kind of already mentioned my viewpoint of pho. That said, they provide fresh basil, sprouts and other amenities for your pho (prounounced "fo"). We also had some of the spring rolls and a noodle dish. The noodle dish was quite tasty as were the spring rolls. For those who have only ever ventured out with deep fried egg rolls. Really consider trying the fresh spring rolls. You may discover what is probably one of the healthiest and tastiest snacks around. The environment is laid back, casual. TV playing in the background. It's akin to a little corner deli that locals go to for lunch. Except it's Vietnamese food. If you're looking for a bite for lunch and want something different than Fudrucker's. Pho Bistro might be one you want to add to your list of considerations. read more

Every time we re out of area, we check Yelp to find a restaurant. So far, so good. Pho is another example of a place we would not have picked without having read the reviews. The location is not the best, the outside does not look like something to consider and that would be a mistake. The owner is pleasant, arranged for us an excellent lunch even in the middle of the afternoon. Tasteful food, quick service and a really tiny check. I recommend the tea, a mix of Jasmin and Lotus i never had before. Give it a try, no disappointment here. read more

Emperor has no clothes. Not even close to decent Viet food. It's a nice room, comfortable and clean. Parking in the back was convenient. The family seemed nice but, service was so-so. A family of 3 came in after us and were never even given a menu, they left. Some hipsters were dinning they seem to be regulars. Summer rolls were not bad, Pho and Bun bo Hue were pretty lame, crap cuts of meat, wheat noodles not rice-vermicelli. BbH was spicy but no trotters, broth lacking structure. Rice plate was bland. Food: Average. We ordered: steamed shrimp rolls, chicken lemongrass bun, and shrimp lemongrass bun. The rolls were a let down. The wrappers were hard and poorly wrapped. There wasn't much inside other than shrimp, basil, vermicelli, and shredded lettuce. The peanut sauce was tasty. We found ourselves in want of licking the bowl. But we kept our manners. The base of the chicken and shrimp was great. Tons of food. I wouldn't order a large unless you are beside yourself with hunger. The nuc nom is suuuuuper delicious and made in house. ....I'm seeing a theme with the condiments here. The chicken was almost well seasoned, but dry. The shrimp was a little overlooked but tasty. The spicy really isn't THAT spicy. Service: great! A lot of asian places leave their customers alone. Our waiter kept up with water refills and whatnot. Ambiance: AWKWARD, and casual. There was no music, and it was pretty dead at 6-8 on a Friday night. The staff was having a phone conversation on the other side of the dining area. My companion and I just whispered awkwardly. Not the best dining experience. Overall: Prices are fair for hearty portions of average Viet food. I was pleasantly surprised to find delicious Vietnamese food in Pennsylvania! I'm from Southern California, and the dishes at Pho Bistro are as good as some of the hole-in-the-wall places back home! Not a bad place, but definitely not the best Pho I've had. Crispy veggie spring rolls were pretty good, but I was also incredibly hungry, so that might have had something to do with how quickly they disappeared. Pho was lacking a bit. The broth seemed to be missing something, and I'm no Pho expert so I'll leave it at that. I tried it without the additions then tried doctoring it up to no avail. I love this place. I love its homey interior and its friendly waitstaff that seems to consist of a family and its children. If I am ever in the mood for Pho and a specialty dish, this is the place to be. I even look forward to reading the handwritten Specials sign that greets you as you come in. I love Vietnamese food anyway. I order the beef tendon Pho and OK yes, it is a little "blanded-out" for the York, PA taste buds, but they give you lots of condiments like fish sauce, basil, soy sauces, and peppers to suit my more eclectic tastes. I have had very traditional Pho in the D.C. , Philly, and the NYC area and although it doesn't compare in hot and spicy palette, it seems that this place uses what I call a "family broth recipe" and is still quite tasty. I am a big fan of Vietnamese cuisine so I sought out this restaurant. The food was outstanding. Prices are very reasonable and service was good. I would rate 4.5 stars if able. I did not have their Pho, but my spring roll, bun dish and vietnamese iced coffee were all some of the best I ve had, pretty much on par with Rice and Noodle in Lancaster (which I believe to be the best Vietnamese in the midstate). Overall: The Pho Bistro offers genuine Vietnamese dishes, including well known Pho Soup. The atmosphere may leave something to be desired, but the food is incredible. Delicious and exotic foods from knowledgeable hosts make Pho Bistro a top restaurant on my list. Weak points: Atmosphere and location could be seen as a draw back, but genuine cuisine does seem best presented in an honest atmosphere. You'll have to park on the street, and the Unadventurous diners may find it outside their comfort zone. (*If all you like are chicken nuggets and french fries approach with caution.) The food is sure to win you. Strong points: Amazing dishes of well complimented and sophisticated, yet simple combinations. Personal high points include the Pho Soup (you're given fresh basil, cilantro, bean sprouts and more to complete your soups) Vermicelli (number #16) is a dish that combines (optionally) meat (various varieties available) with vermicelli noodles, a delicate sweet and sour sauce with fresh strips of lettuces and the Coconut Drink which comes with real chunks of coconut in the glass. Authenticity, location (it's not Applebee's or in a shopping center), a warm welcoming staff with unique foods all combine to make Pho Bistro a fantastic place to eat. *Note: I likely won't EVER give 5 stars, so if my star count seems low, take that into consideration please. I grabbed takeout from here and was reasonably disappointed. The fresh spring rolls did not taste fresh, the lettuce was browning. The sauce that they came with was flavorless and slimy in a way that made me wonder if it was going bad. I got the P4 and it was oily and flavorless. All I could taste was burned oil flavor. My entire family and I have been eating at Pho Bistro for YEARS! Everything we've ever tried has been delicious and we've never had problems with either the food or the staff. Do not get fooled by these recent "reviews" of "bad service" and "hair in food" or "bugs". These are coming from sad, pathetic people who are probably bitter and jealous of the success that is York Pho Bistro. I've even taken friends here who have become as obsessed with this place as my family and I are. This is a great family run restaurant and we always feel welcome and comfortable when we come here. I can't say enough about how great the food is here, especially the pho! I've tried other pho places, even in other states and They don't even compare to the pho here! I'm glad we found this pho restaurant in this quaint town of York. The man serving us was very personable and kind. The food it self was good! We ordered pho and they give you a good amount. The food here is still pretty daggone good. But the service sucks..sometimes you may get an attitude; sometimes it may be a pleasant experience, depends on the phase of the moon..I guess. I've been to many pho restaurants, this is by far the worst I've ever eaten at. The restaurant looked dirty, and the service was horrible. It was me, my husband, and our 3 yr old daughter. They brought out waters for me and my husband, but none for our daughter. When I ordered, I also asked for a small bowl of pho for my daughter, and they never brought that out. Then, halfway through our meal they brought a small, empty bowl, which I assume was meant for her. As far as the food, we ordered spring rolls and pho. The spring rolls were horrible, over cooked and almost burnt. The sauce that goes with it was bland. And the pho (I had chicken my husband had a steak one), was also very bland. The broth was not flavorful at all, the chicken in mine was gross- very thin and hard. And the bowls are tiny. Usually a medium at a pho restaurant is pretty big, mine was smaller than a small at any other pho restaurant I've ever been to. The large was maybe a medium size. And the prices were outrageous. We paid almost $45 for the three (well, really two) of us. read more

Love this place! I found it by accident with a friend a few years ago when we were looking for a sushi restaurant. Best accidental find I've ever had. It's right on the corner of E. Market and Sherman Street, which is a little shady if you're familiar with York...but I've never had any issues. You can either park on the street or there is a small lot on Sherman. I usually get the pho, which has great flavor, but I have found that the fresh spring rolls are also delicious. I also really like the bun nem nuoc (which is a pork meatball dish with noodles and veggies). Their pad thai is also very good. I like to try different foods, but those are the ones I always end up going back to when I'm there. And don't be afraid to ask for suggestions from the staff, they know the menu inside and out. They can also tailor the food to your preferences, such as level of spice, add/remove certain veggies, etc. The atmosphere is very casual, it's a small family owned joint, usually with their adoloscent kids doing the serving on weekends. There's a tv in the corner, which is fine, but sometimes I don't want to sit and watch SpongeBob while I eat. But hey, I get that they may not have a sitter for their kids and if that keeps them settled then so be it. The only drawback is that you have to go to the counter to pay your check, which isn't a big deal, but at first I did not know that. My friend and I must have sat there for nearly 45 minutes wondering if they were ever going to bring us the bill. Also, there's not always someone at the counter, so sometimes you do have to wait a few minutes to get someone's attention. Otherwise though, they are very friendly and nice. They ccare about the quality , and being true to the way they learned to make their dishes.
