Good, but not the best. This is, after all, Houston where Vietnamese food abounds so the bar is high. I had the Pho Ga and my friend had the vermicelli with charbroiled pork. We also shared one serving of spring rolls. First, very generous servings. The rolls were fresh and tight. The pho broth was very generic, but well presented and well prepared. The pork was very well seasoned and well cooked. A place I'd gladly return to, but not the first choice for pho. Come and try and leave your thoughts. read more

Pho Barr is not like your typical pho place , the environment is cozy and warm it feels like you are traveling to Vietnam. I ordered the combination beef noodle soup and let me tell you , they don't play when it comes to the portion size . The broth was amazing , the meatball portion is also big. However if your not into medium rare beef I'm sure they could also make it well done for you . I also got the Vietnamese coffee and let me see it was strong and flavorful I recommend the coffee for anyone feeling drained from work 8/10 . Also the staff is professional and make you feel welcomed , they are happy to see you and serve you . This was a last minute find for us after leaving Johnson Space Center. A short drive away from JSC is this cute little restaurant, where at first, I was a little hesitant upon entering as it looked very "hip", which usually translates to fusion or trendy food, and not the authentic Vietnamese experience we were hoping for. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the wonderful flavors. We ordered Pho Bo (beef noodle), Pho Ga (chicken noodle), Fried Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce and Mama's Special Fried Egg Rolls. Both of the soups were clean, clear and flavorful. I've recently fallen in love with Pho Ga after a trip to Vietnam, and Pho Barr's was no exception. Pho Bo came with slices of brisket and little meatballs, while Pho Ga came with slices of white chicken meat. The fried egg rolls were FANTASTIC. So much so we ordered a second one - do note that each order comes with only two pieces. The staff are wonderful, constantly checking up on us yet not being overly intrusive. If you go to Bellaire there is a restaurant called PK. Panda King. Try the grilled chicken pho. Oh my gosh!!! The Vietnamese woman that owns it uses her mothers recipe from Vietnam and yes, the owner is from Vietnam. I live in League City and am NOT a spokesman for PK. The food is that durn good. We tried a bit of everything. Fresh and flavorful food. Friendly staff. The fish sauce wings are tasty, although you shouldn't try the sauce unless you're a fan of fish sauce. Excellent Pho Ga. basically really really good chicken soup with noodles. They bring a sliced jalepeno, Fresh Thai basil, and fresh bean sprouts to add to the soup. They even offered more hot broth to top off my soup. The service was extremely attentive and courteous. Everyone was eager to please. My husband tried a hot Vietnamese coffee which he loved. Next time I will try one of the Bahn mi sandwiches. They looked so good. Try this place. read more

I didn't know FBQ had closed, so walked in and found this new operation. Its not like the area needs another Vietnamese resto, but choice is always good. Decor is simple but looks clean and modern. There were only two other tables of customers and two servers, but it took well over 10 minutes to get menus, then another 10 or more for the waitress to return to the table. Egg rolls were excellent, pho was bleh at best, prime rib bahn mi sandwich could have been outstanding if not slathered with mounds of spicy mayo (??). I had to ask for a knife to scrape off the excess--had to be at least 4 tablespoons of the gunk on the small sandwich. Pho selection is limited to a beef, a chicken, and a vegetarian, and maybe a fourth I don't recall. The beef pho was grossly oversalted; the server said others had complained about it also that day. The vermicelli dishes on another table looked good, but we didn't try them. Overall, prices seem about 20 - 30% higher than places like Pho 17 and Pho 21, with a much smaller selection. The atmosphere is much nicer though and seems quiet. They've applied for a beer and wine license. read more
