I decided to take a trip outside my usual area where I find my eats. So I headed toward Clear Lake, Kemah area. On my way there I stopped by Pho Barr. It was a recommendation of a friend to visit. My first step into the store I was greeted and immediately seated. First thing they always bring out is a ice water in a mason jar while you look over the menu. I could not really make up my mind and I asked the waitress what was good on the menu? She suggested the egg rolls, ultimate fries and the pork banh mi. I did decide to get the butterfly lemonade because of my curiosity of how appealing it looked on their Instagram. The food was very good. The egg rolls were light and had this nice flaky texture served with veggies and nouc man, fish sauce. The ultimate fries were solid as well and came with an egg on top, sriracha, Japanese mayo, beef, sliced onions, and cilantro. In addition, the banh mi was great and I added an egg for extra. The butterfly lemonade was refreshing as well. I liked the gradient layer effect it had. The staff was very friendly and attentive especially with water refills. The place is nice and casual. A very minimalistic approach to the decor which is pleasant. I did order a Vietnamese coffee to go as well. It definitely gave me that caffeine kick i expected. Overall I had a great experience. It is a family owned business and I saw that first hand when I walked in the door. I'll make it a habit if I am ever in the area to stop by. read more

Ok so I actually really like this place and the service was great but I am giving the location 3 stars because I found a fruit fly in my Pho and I know it's local, fresh ingredients so I was not as upset but that is something that you should be extra careful of when presenting Pho, especially since it took 30 minutes to get to our table. I did not tel the waitress because many other people were in the restaurant and I know this business is just starting to get its feet in the water having been opened for only a month. I highly recommend the fries at this restaurant and the pho broth is amazing. I hope next time my experience is better and I wish nothing but the best for this restaurant. Just clean up a little. UPDATE: This place has got it together!! Everything was absolutely perfect and after coming twice I've realized that the ribeye steak bahn mi is absolutely amazing and the pho broth is great. I brought my wife thIs time around because she was craving some Vietnamese food and she says this place will become a regular for us. Wonderful place for pho and wonton soup and the takeout experience during this covid thingamajig could not have gone more smooth. My husband was in a RUSH because I gave birth a day before and the hospital staff wouldn't let him in the doors past 6 PM. After telling the staff this, they went out of their way to cook the food quickly, rush our order and had it waiting at the door for us. Amazing service! The chicken vermicelli bowl was phenomenal. The chicken was crisp, the vegetables fresh and after I added some soy sauce - the whole thing was refreshing and tasty! Add that with a side of their spring rolls and holy crap. My husband decided on the beef pho and the crispy wings appetizer and he said it was the "best pho he's ever had". So there's that. Mama's Special egg rolls were a bit smaller than expected, but were crisp & tasty with flavorful sauce. We only got a small piece of lettuce on each plate of 2 egg rolls, so that was disappointing. But the Pho Ga had really tasty broth & the leaves added a nice flavor & had good cuts of chicken. This review is an update from my first review. I have tried everything on the food menu from this restaurant since the first review and I'm happy to say that everything they have is amazing. The service is also great every time! They provide spaced out seating for COVID precaution. The flavors of the pho seem to have changed since my first review and I love to get it for my son. The Pho Barr Ultimate Fries are still my fave on the menu and I've branched out to other meal options they have. The rice plate is fresh and filling. It doesn't leave you feeling tired and icky. My favorite part of the rice plate is the small bowl of broth they serve on the side with it. It comes hot and ready to cleanse the palate! Nice touch on the rice plate. My toddler twins love to eat the rice plate also so it is a kid friendly option. To end dinner right we always order the Tiger Boba. It's not too sweet and it tastes kind of like a caramel coffee drink minus the strong coffee flavor. Thank you Pho Barr for feeding my little family at least 3 times a month! Keep up the good work! Decided to try Pho Barr tonight and I definitely wasn't disappointed! First off, when you first walk into the restaurant, it's very clean and has a refreshing look. The staff are very friendly, and will ask you if you need anything throughout the meal. I ordered a grilled beef Bahn mi since I wasn't too hungry, and I have to honestly say it was one of the best Bahn mi's I have ever eaten. The bread was crunchy but also soft on the inside, the beef was tender, the vegetables were fresh, but my favorite part of the Bahn Mi was maybe the special mayo sauce they put on it. Super great combination of flavors. The drink also surprised me a lot since most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to that serve bubble tea don't have good quality drinks. I ordered the Thai Green Milk Tea with tapioca and the tea tasted great and the tapioca had a great consistency (not too soft nor chewy). Also, they let me know that the toppings don't cost extra, and you can order unlimited toppings for no extra cost!!!! That's huge in my book. My only knock on this restaurant is that it is a little pricy ($5.50 for a Bahn mi), but in my opinion the quality is worth it. The drinks are very affordable ($3.75 to $3.95) and tasty. Every time I picked up they were always so nice and caring and the food was always done right on time or sooner. I can't freaky express how obsessed I got with this place. I would drive 25 minutes just to have their honey milk tea with crystal boba. The butterfly lemonade was also a hit with the kids. I have to say the sauce they use in their banh mi sandwiches add the right touch. During Covid, it so hard to find a Vietnamese place that offer dine-in. We finally found Pho barr nearby. We came for dinner. It was only 4 tables at that time but their restaurant is small so 50% capacity only around 5 tables or so. All the employees wore mask, table social distance which I really appriciate. We ordered Wonton Soup and Pho Bo, which are really good. The broth is really tasty. We got our food in like 20' which is a little long for regular Pho, but I saw three of the servers was walking around, a lot of customers come in to pick up togo so I guess they were busier than they look. We ordered takeout from this place based on a recommendation from my friend. I have already yelled at her for recommending such a terrible pho restaurant. First, they only give you a half-size container of broth where other places pack you a full-size container. Second, they don't give you a decent amount of meats and veggies. Let me remind you that this place charges $9.50 per bowl of pho. Other pho restaurants give you way more for way less. Lastly, their food isn't even good! The broth leans sour and the flavor of the broth isn't deep at all--not that you have enough broth to fully taste it, btw. Oh, and my husband's plastic bowl was cracked, so I can't even reuse it like any good Asian person would. We also ordered the egg rolls, which were crispy but flimsy. We just had a long day at the JSC, the weather was cold and we all craved for some pho. Searches on Yelp popped up this place with such high rating of 4.5 stars! That many good reviews can't be wrong.... The selection for pho was few, and you can't really choose your ala carte choice of meat like other places, but that's fine, meatballs and brisket were ok with me but I rather have rare beef. The portions were pretty decent, and not too cheap with the amount of meat. However, the meat was not very tender and more on the tough side. The most important was the broth, I think it could be more flavorful without tons of MSG. I can taste the overly sweetness from the MSG and the aftertaste.
