Other options include lettuce wrap, salads, phos, and egg noodle soups. To claim to be the best pho in OC is a bold statement. Normally I eat pho in the heart of little Saigon. Today I needed a convenient meal while I was in Irvine and I was excited to try a new place. Unfortunately I was severely disappointed. The experience started with an extremely long wait to put in our order. Although a good bowl of pho should cost you under $10, i was willing to overlook the expensive prices as maybe this would be a more upscale experience. It wasn't. I ordered a dac biet. The soup was not boiling hot when it came out and it was served in a plastic bowl (vs. ceramic). The broth was bland. I left dissatisfied and never wanting to come back again!!! Really solid pho! I always go with the rare steak and well done brisket for my pho soups. I get the regular and I think that's a perfect amount of food! I love the tenderness of the meat and the broth is delicious. I don't think it's too hard to go wrong with pho and they make it quite well here. It also comes with plenty of bean sprouts, mint leaves, and limes for you to add into your soup. It's a clean and well kept restaurant and the staff is always super friendly. I eat here like once every month. When you don't feel like driving all the way to Garden Grove or Westminster this is the spot for good Vietnamese food (Irvine edition). Btw I'm Vietnamese and grew up with a Viet mom that threw down in the kitchen everyday so I know a lil sum sum about Viet food. PHO: Not like homemade pho but this will do. I don't taste MSG in their broth (unless they put a little) which is a plus for me. The broth is flavorful and not too salty. It'a clear and not too dark, definitely a clean and pure beef broth. A tad bit on the sweeter side if you're into that. They do skimp on the meat so might want to order extra meat on the side. they're a bit more on the pricey side compared to their cheaper competitors in GG or Westminster. Vermicelli Noodles: My go-to. Definitely hits the spot. I like that they don't use that nasty, dying shredded iceberg lettuce and bean sprout salad mix in this dish. I like to get the combo with charbroiled chicken, egg roll, charbroiled shrimp- so good! Their fish sauce is not too bad- not too salty and not too sweet. Broken rice: Also a hitter. I usually get the broken rice dish with charbroiled chicken, egg quiche (bomb), fried tofu, and shredded pork. You can't go wrong with this one. Egg rolls: Very close to my mom's style and recipe. Nicely wrapped and deep fried to golden perfection. I wish the filling inside was a bit more firm but it's doable. The flavor is good and addicting. They provide a side of vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint leaves, etc. which I appreciate. If you are a pho place you have to master the broth. I ordered a rare steak large pho. The broth was flavorless and I was very disappointed because this was suppsoedly a 4 star pho place. I ordered the 4 egg rolls which were flavorful and tasty which saved the meal. The rare steak was chewy and hard to swallow. I left most of the steak pieces in my bowl when I got the check and left. I was just disappointed. And my constructive criticism would be instead of having 79 items on the menu why not master the main dish first. I guess I will have to search for better broth somewhere else. I will give them another chance though because I am not trying to put them down. I swear that I've reviewed this place before. This was my go-to pho place in Irvine when I lived there. The pho is good and this is coming from a Vietnamese-American who has eaten it all of her life. The broth is consistent and the flavors are true. There are a few sister restaurants in the area as well. I've been to the Tustin location and it is just as tasty. Pho is best on a cold, rainy day or when you're sick and can't stomach solid food. But for me, I can have pho for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The other dishes on the menu are solid as well. I've had their bun thit nuong cha gio (dry noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls) and it's delicious. The chicken and rice dish is really good too. But when my food arrived, I instantly realized that they put VERY disproportionate amount of meat. We only got 3-4 slices of meat in our bowl (lol). I was really shocked that I had to count the meat again. The soup tastes okay, but not spectacular. Price is a bit more expensive that what I saw compared to other pho places. They are also generous in providing their bean sprouts, mint leaves, lime, etc. on the side. I'm happily surprised that quality has not gone down when it comes to their service and food. I would also like to add that their pickup system is wonderful! You can ring a bell set up on the patio and a server will meet you to bring your order to the table. They provide hand sanitizer at the front and they're extremely friendly at the door! Whenever anyone finds out I'm Vietnamese, of course the first thing they follow up with is "Oh I love foe!"or "Do you know how to make fuh?". Now I know how to make pho, but why would I when I can go to Pho Ba Co instead to get delicious pho that tastes homemade? I either come here starving or pseudo-healthy. When I'm starving, I go for the Combo Plate Special. Along with a bowl of hot pho, you get a spring roll, two extremely hot freshly fried egg rolls, and a plate of rice and marinated steak. Can't really go wrong with that combo, unless you think it's wrong to be full. Otherwise I get their veggie and tofu pho (w/ beef-based broth), which I honestly prefer over the meat sometimes and helps me pretend I'm being healthy. When you could still dine-in, their service was fast and the servers were polite. Way before the quarantine though, pho ba co was one of the first places I noticed that set up large bottles of hand sanitizer right by the front door.
