Went to Pho Anh Vu, which I believe is the original location. We ordered the pho and the grilled pork vermicelli. The pho was really good, but the grilled pork was the standout for me -- it had that authentic smoky charcoal flavor that made it taste amazing. The meat was flavorful, slightly crispy on the edges, and cooked perfectly. Service was pretty average, but honestly that's kind of expected at a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. The food came out quickly and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. Overall, I'd definitely come back again for the grilled pork alone. read more

My parents took me here for lunch after shopping and woah! Cute decors, speedy service, and delicious food. According to my parents , this is the OG location and because they're doing so well they were able to open up so many stores and I could see why! The bun bo hue special was massive and mouth watering! I loved the crab balls with real crabs and not those imitation ones. We were craving a big hot wholesome bowl of pho and it delivered! I got the large bowl and it was actually massive- my stomach was going to burst! I got the pho with the beef balls and beef brisket. The broth was so flavourful and it checked off the pho craving. We also shared the fried chicken which was tasty but not my favourite. From the outside it looks like a regular plaza restaurant, was a little frightened away by one of the guys in the back of the kitchen sitting with the door open picking his nose. But I never let that get in the way of a good food recommendation. I am glad I stayed. The food here was phenomenal! I've had pho all over and have to say they had some of the best tasting beef I've had in pho. It was tender and juicy and not super thin but had a quality taste. The interior is nice and clean, it was moderately busy but the service was quick and they had a lot of people working. The space is surprisingly bigger than it looks from the outside. At first, we were hesitant, as we never ate pig blood - but so glad that we tried this! We also worried that it may be too heavy (mentioned by others) - but I did not feel that way. It came with a lot of fresh vegetable toppings (shredded red cabbage, bean sprouts, mint, and julienned banana leaves). The banana leaves added extra fresh crispiness and a subtly sweet flavor and aroma to the dish. I actually enjoyed those vegetables. They used thicker round noodles that are well entangled in the spicy strong soup. I expected the soup to be a bit spicier, but the soup was balanced and did not feel lacking just because of my preference for spiciness. I loved the richness (texture, number of vegetables and meat items, etc) of this noodle soup - no wonder it is a weekend special! #10 The chicken wings were also impressive. The menu cautioned that it takes 20 mins to make it. We didn't mind! 20 mins in, the chicken wings arrived freshly fried - and the taste was something that I never experienced anywhere before. The chicken was deeply marinated with fish sauce, and coated with crispy caramelized honey-ly garlic sauce, giving it a great balance of salt & sweetness. They were also hot and juicy. Be prepared to lick your fingers :). They came with a small coconut-flavored sticky rice ball sprinkled with fried onion and chopped green onions. It served as a great palate-cleansing when eating the strongly flavored wings. They have a BBQ sauce option for chicking wings, but I highly recommend that you choose this Fish sauce flavor. Service was quick. The servers answered very politely and friendlily to our questions about the menu. We were so full when we were leaving. This is one of my absolute favourite Vietnamese restaurant of all time! This is saying a lot since I am Vietnamese and have tasted Vietnamese food from all over the world, including Vietnam. My relatives have told me that the chefs actually trained in Vietnam, so they are more elevated than your typical mom and pop Vietnamese restaurants. They also use high quality ingredients, like tenderloin in their pho. Many dishes are regional specialties that you will not find at most restaurants either. Do try the weekend specials! I used to work in this area pre-Covid, so my colleagues and I would often have lunch together here. They were able to accommodate large groups if we had a special occasion such as a going-away or birthday lunch. We all had our favourites and knew the numbers by heart, which would make ordering really easy. It was one of the few places that 6-8 of us could get in, have lunch and get back to the office in under an hour. Since March of 2020, I had not been back to this restaurant since I don't work in the area anymore. But I found myself there last week and was really craving Pho so I stopped in for a takeout order. I had a friend coming over so I grabbed food for both of us and called in the order. It only took about 15 minutes for my order to be ready. When I went in to pay, I was a little taken aback how busy it was. Good for them! It was packed in there, but everything seemed to be running smoothly. They no longer accept credit cards for payment, but they do accept debit or cash. By the time I got home, the food wasn't hot anymore but we easily reheated everything. The food was carefully packaged and I absolutely loved how they kept things separated for the Pho. Once we got everything heated up, the food was so delicious and fresh-tasting. The spring rolls unfortunately didn't do so great with reheating as they lost their crunch, but they still tasted great. I forgot to take photos as we were too hungry to wait a minute longer. We ended up sharing everything, which included the Special Rice Noodle Soup with every meat, and the grilled pork with vermicelli, plus an order of their spring rolls. I had forgotten how good their food is! It's definitely gone up in price, but I'm seeing price increases everywhere so it's not isolated to this restaurant. All the right toppings for my soup plus the sliced garlic and chili condiment were just à few things that set this place apart from the rest. We ordered the famous chicken wings ($14) which were AMAZINGLY Good, the way they season it and the crunch and fish sauce... tastes Soo good. Highly recommended you try this dish out if you are there. However keep in mind, wait time is (20mins) for them. If you time get them. Tried contacting them through email and Instagram to address the situation without posting a review but so far received no response. My girlfriend and her friend had dinner at the restaurant around 7pm on Monday, August 21. They thought the food was good, and I enjoyed my takeout. But unfortunately, they were not impressed with the customer service and we wanted to let you know. She asked the waiter if he could speak Vietnamese and he nodded. She proceeded to order in Vietnamese and the waiter immediately started laughing. Without any explanation, he took off while she was still ordering and went to the other employee and they both started laughing while looking toward our direction. Another server came to take their order but when she asked why that guy was laughing at them, he ignored and walked away. Lastly, her friend wanted to take out the rest of her bowl as she couldn't finish it, but as soon as the server came by, he dumped everything in the bowl immediately. This may be our new go to Viet food place. It is spacious inside, clean, large parking lot and the food is legit. The grilled pork Bun is now my partner's favorite since the lemongrass made both our mouths water the moment it hit our table. Great portion of pork to go with the noodles and spring roll. Randomly on my IG explore page I saw a heaping bowl of bun bo hue and realised I needed to visit. And since then...we'll I've been coming every two weeks. Line ups are seen during weekends but service is fast and the kitchen is such a oiled supply chain. Come for the bun bo hue, weekends have the BBH dac biet with more meat and you'll probably won't go anywhere else. They have pig blood - And through covid times, pig blood is a luxury as many places have skimped back on this. It's the tender brisket, the house made chalua that make this bowl so delicious. I had to get their Saturday special and I got their Bun Bo Hue Dav Biet. I love how they use a different type of thicker and more bouncy noodles. However, the broth was a little too spicy for me to enjoy it. I did like their crab cakes and meat though. I wish they allowed us to choose the spice level. I also had their Mon Cuon Dac Biet, which was a huge platter of grilled meats like shrimps and pork, served with some greens, ranging from lettuce, mints, pickled carrots, to make your own fresh roll with their rice paper. It was a cool hands-on experience but since I'm a horrible wrapper, I don't think I did this dish justice. As well, I wish there were more guidance on how to eat this dish because my fiancé and I definitely forgot to wrap it with some lettuce before and did not soak the rice paper enough before wrapping it. The service was fast though and the food came out really quickly and piping hot! Overall, I would still come again but to try their less niche and unique dishes. Like most pho restaurants, service was efficient. We shared a mango & shrimp salad and an extra large beef pho. The mango shrimp salad was amazingggg! The mango was finely shredded with crunchy garlic flakes. The shrimps were not the cheap, tasteless, overly frozen ones and had a nice char to them. The dish had the right balance of tangiess and saltiness without being overpowering. We ordered the pho that had regular sliced beef, sliced beef brisket and beef tendons. We were happy with the meat to pho ratio. In my opinion, the broth was a bit watered down. However, I am no pho connoisseur and was super happy that I didn't spend the rest of my afternoon drinking cups of water due to MSG! I personally did not enjoy the Bun Bo Hue here as it was too spicy for me but I always come back for the Pho Dac Biet and an iced Vietnamese coffee. The prices are on a higher end, you can expect to spend at least $50 for two people. I consider it high as pho is usually a more afforable meal but this place definitely charges a bit more for their quality pho. I actually prefer the ones at Nam Bun Bo Hue: They have a special thats only available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It comes with all the fixin's including crab cakes, homemade sausage, rare beef, beef shank and ham hock. Even though this bowl was $17, the amount of meat and toppings in there made it so worth it. The only thing is I wish the broth could have had deeper flavors. Bun Cha Ca: I love Viet fish soup and this one had generous amounts of fish and fish patties inside. Even though this was good, I still think the one at Banh Cuon Huong Que is my favorite. I only went there for the beef soup so I don't know how the other dishes taste. The soup was good. I had one with rare beef and beef balls. I didn't like the balls too much as it seemed highly processed. The consistency of the balls was tough and more like a cooked processed sausage. Not like meat balls. I don't know if this place uses MSG or not but at least I didn't have a dry throat after the meal which is usually caused by MSG. Many pho places and others too use MSG. If you don't know what it is, it is a substitute for spices/salt. It basically makes something bland taste better and it is not natural. I went there at 1pm on a Saturday and there was a line up. I would suggest you go around 1.30pm. Service was fast, soup was served within few minutes after order. No complaints. Even though it takes a bit more for me to rate 4 or 5 stars. read more

Came here with my family for weekend lunch and expected a long wait (there was), but the line moves pretty quickly because they have a large amount of patio tables. Ordered (best to worst) - Pho dac biet - Com ga nuong trung op la (broken rice with chicken and fried egg) - Fish sauce chicken wings - Bun cha ca (to go) - Bun cha Hanoi + cha gio - Bun bo hue A note that the noodle soup dishes only come in small, large and extra-large (no medium). Their pho was surprisingly the best dish and was not intended to be ordered. The fish sauce wings are larger wings with a nice crunchy and sticky sauce - comes with steamed coconut sticky rice. Bun cha ca was a huge order and was extremely tasty as well - we only ever eat this homemade so this was super delicious to us! My family and I were surprisingly disappointed by the bun bo hue since that's what a lot of people come here for - it has a very strong fermented shrimp paste/sauce taste and looked more tasty (loads of veggies, super red and spicy looking broth) than it actually was (to us anyway). They do provide a great portion, with various cuts of beef, pork and vietnamese ham. Read another comment of this dish being insanely spicy, it really was not it was the traditional level of spicy. The bun cha Hanoi was disappointing as well (the meat patties broke apart easily and the spring rolls were wayyy to breaded with only veggies inside with a soggy interior). After speaking with the owner, this restaurant is owned by Southern Vietnamese owners which makes sense why this dish wasn't as tasty to us since we are from Northern Vietnam (where this dish originates from). Overall, this place is amazing! Fast service for how busy and packed they are. They do check up on how your meal is going and if you're missing any dishes. Honestly super surprised by the amount of 5 stars reviews on Yelp. Came here after shopping at Yorkdale and was so excited to try the food. Upon opening the menu, my boyfriend and I were appalled by the menu prices. Now, I understand it has been a rough 2 years for small business owners and everyone in the world is increasing their prices.. HOWEVER. To be charging $18.99 for an XL pho? Wow. And to add, the XL looks more like a L in comparison to other pho restaurants. I was very shocked by the prices however not as shocked as when I received my fried spring rolls. My god, were they TINY. The size of my index finger !! I thought a whole other spring roll was missing or had fallen on the floor by the employee. Cause SURELY they aren't charging me $7 for 2 bites of food. Plain robbery . To add the spring rolls weren't even good! All in all, I will not be returning to this restaurant. $18.99 for a house special pho, which isn't anything special. Sure it was good pho, but any other pho place tastes similar and they charge $13~ for XL, that is in fact an XL portion. Not this claim to be XL when it's just extra soup? For $18.99. NO THANK YOU.
