I've been here a few times, usually when it's getting a bit late and the fridge is empty, but tonight COVID plus a garbage disposal that broke and filled the sink with disgusting water led me to get a delivery order. Long story short, it really hit the spot, the flavors and textures were all great, and it's much cheaper than Pho To Chau. Better food and lower prices, there's a win-win!
I ordered egg rolls (made of pork), a grilled pork and egg roll bowl, and a grilled pork sandwich. So yeah, sorry kosher/halal friends. Although on the other hand I'm doing my part to keep the world's pig population in check.
The order came very warm but not hot, but all the crispy things were crispy so I can't complain there. The total was $45 without the tip, which is pricey but still less than the comparable meal at Pho To Chau, the other closeby Vietnamese spot.
So Vietnamese egg rolls... this may be a contentious thing to say, but I think they are the best egg rolls of anywhere. I don't know what it is about the filling and the sauce, but it really hits all the flavor notes for me. Combined with the crispy skin and it's like a perfect bit. Hence why I ordered it twice.
The grilled pork and egg roll bowl, or "bun", is another favorite of mine. I've stopped dousing the bowl in Sriracha as I did back in the day and now enjoy the pleasure of just dousing it in nớc mắm pha, the amazing fish sauce... sauce... that is pretty much always served with it. It's got so many flavors going on, the salad is crispy, the noodles are tender, the grilled pork has a slightly charred and chewy texture, and of course more egg rolls can only be good.
At this point I wasn't really hungry, but I figured since lunch was a handful or 2 of almonds I might as well knock out the grilled pork sandwich (bánh mì). Now, typically I do put Sriracha on these, because I find many times these are too dry, but Pho #1 really knocked it out of the park here. I nibbled the end and found the bread to be very crispy, but tender - no gum-shredding Dutch crunch shenanigans here. But once I took a proper bite I found a pleasant surprise. Despite the bread being crispy and light, the meat was super juicy! All thoughts of Sriracha left my mind as I devoured the perfect blend of pickled veggies, meat, and magic. Okay, some more cilantro would be appreciated, but I do tend to like excess so maybe it's just me.
Overall this place was awesome and really hit the spot. Next time I am in the mood for Vietnamese I think they are the top contender in the area, which goes well with their name. read more
