Philz coffee is one of my favorite locally owned coffee chain. My go tos are the ginger snap and honey haze- I wanted to switch it up and get something light and refreshing after a workout. This Yuzu Twist Lemon Tea was the perfect drink to quench my thirst and satisfy my sweet craving in drink form. Theres not roo much brown sugar added, it's just enough to balance the yuzu and lemonade. The mint garnish was a nice touch and the barista was a pro. The cashier was very friendly and personable and listened to my preferences. If you're ever in the area- stop by! I would always frequent at the home base in the mission before they closed, but SF has a few Philz locations that you could conveniently find around you. read more

When staying at my sisters APT in the city, one must walk everywhere including the daily pilgrimage for iced coffee. I was able to try their new Iced Coffee Rose which had a pink cold foam. I asked to not add any additional sweetener and my drink was STRONG but delicious...Perfect! I also had their new pina colada (?) pastry and it was just ok. Not too sweet but not too much of any flavor actually. Its necessary to be extra aware while in this area of town, as most other reviews will tell you. I wont ramble on but just add a "nod" in agreeance. I love that this location is so close to the apartment and appreciate how nice and friendly the staff is. I come to this Philz because it is the most local to me, but I can't say that I'm impressed by how they make their drinks. I got the iced honey haze made with cream instead of oat milk, and sadly, was disappointed because it didn't have the foamy cream and honey on top. This is not the first time I didn't enjoy my drink from this location. However, I appreciated their quick service. Five stars for their customer service. (This is a cumulative review of 2+ years going here) I am a law student at UC Law SF and this place is close, reliable, consistent, and affordable. DRINKS: I have never had a phillz pastry so I can only talk about the drinks. I used to be SBs girlie and after having Phillz I realized that what I was drinking before was pure sugar. I've tried all their seasonal items but my favorite was the date coffee w/ creamy oat. Omg, so good. My usual orders are oatmeal cookie drip w/ sweet stevia w/ light cream, a mint mojito w/o sugar w/ creamy oat, an iced rose w/ medium stevia w/ cream oat milk and xtra rose. Super good. I will say I have always enjoyed their drinks EXCEPT for the smokey blends. However, my friends that smoke really like those drips. SERVICE: I have always had good service. They say welcome, they know me by name because of how often I go. I will say I formed good bonds with Willie and Ashley. They are very social and are consistent with my drinks. I also enjoy that they give a small discount for taking your own cup. Of course, if you sip and need adjustments or don't like it they will remake it. There is a big IF though. If you take it and don't sip and call later or ask to have it remade after leaving they will be a little resistant about remaking it. So, sip and tell. AMBAINCE: Love it. Plenty of seating and outlets. There is a bathroom (have not gone in it myself) and WiFi. It is very clean. It can get loud so the few times I have studied there I just put my headphones on. I also super enjoy that the furniture is not uniform there are random chairs and tables, there's couches, a bench. The decoration is 10/10 it is obviously LGBQT+ friendly, the staff does not tolerate rude customers (and they should not have to), and they have little plants and drawings. Love it. SPECIAL AND UNIQUE PART OF THIS SPECIFIC PHILLZ LOCATION: The Civic Center and Tenderloin area are filled with displaced people. And, displaced people deserve a hot drink because it gets so cold here. So, you can pay I think $5 and this buys a person in need a coffee. There was this once when I did not realize my debit card was not working and I ordered this large specialty drink and my card declined! They gave it to me for free (mind you, they knew me) and I felt so appreciated. So, the next time I did a bulk donation of $50 and when I get my paycheck and go to this Phillz I donate $5. So, I do like $10 each month. Not much but it feels nice. It gets so cold in SF and it rains so often. read more

TLDR: A Philz cup of coffee is a Philz cup of coffee no matter where you pick it up. Want your pumpkin spice blahblahblah? Won't get it here :P Philz is not for everyone, but if you appreciate selecting your own beans, Philz just might be for you. Great service, and there's a variety of seating arrangements (tables, couches, arm chairs, high tops). I'd say this location has more flavor than other Philz I've visited, especially Philz in places like LA and Chicago. Music can be loud at times (overhead music, people in & out), so bring your own head phones. Longer: This is my neighborhood Philz, and I've lived in this hood for 3 years now. Lately, I've been making my coffee at home, but not so long ago, I spent wayyy too much money here (lol), and this was my non-alcoholic Cheer's beverage spot. Staff are efficient and usually stay heads down when on barista duty -- don't take it personally! (: They're busting ass to get hella coffees out. When I bring my cat in (on my shoulder) the staff perks up and are extra hella friendly xD Even though this Philz location is on the edge of the TL on one of the most notorious TL streets, I have seen nothing but mild af shenanigans over the hundreds of times I've visited. Plus, there's an Urban Alchemy team member regularly stationed on the corner in front who seem to act as security, of sorts. So, if you're nearby and craving Philz, don't let the location keep you away. read more

We made a special trip to get some Philz coffee as my husband's family loves their coffee. The walk from union square through the Tenderloin was interesting as we passed by some rough patches of San Francisco but arrived at Philz safe and sound. The coffee shop was quite spacious, with a lot of room for people to roam. There was art on the walls and this location has many mismatching chairs and a sofa for people to lounge. The cashier took our order quickly and I ordered a hot Tesora with light cream and no sugar. The coffee was not strong; it was rather mild with a pleasant hint of caramel to it. It went well with a hot breakfast burrito which made for a good breakfast. Overall, I liked Philz coffee and would visit whenever I'm in the Bay Area. read more

Stopped by Friday morning for my (first) cup of coffee of the day. It was my first time trying Philz Coffee and it did not disappoint. The person behind the counter was very friendly, helpful, and patient while I chose which Philz classic to try. We tried the Mint Mojito, which they are known for, and a Honey Haze. The Minto Mojito was very unique and unlike any coffee I've had before. It was refreshing and had a great balance between flavors of coffee and mint. The Honey Haze was super tasty as well, and perfect for if you like honey. Also, something that was cool is at this location, they had a thing where you could buy a cup of coffee "for the community," allowing anyone to grab a ticket and get a free cup of coffee. I thought that was a really cool idea. Overall, great coffee and vibes and definitely a coffee spot that should be checked out in SF. read more

The last time I got Philz coffee was years ago, maybe like back in 2016? I ordered their classic mint mojito, the only drink I have ever tried and the coffee wasn't as good or high quality as I remembered. The drink also was poorly mixed: all the sugar was at the bottom so towards the end, the drink was very sweet. Overall, the drink was still decent and I would probably come back, but they have definitely started cutting corners to save on coffee now that it's more corporate. TooGoodToGo is an app where you can order a mystery bag of baked goods for half the price (the day before) to pick up at the end of each business day. I don't drink coffee, but I'm a big fan of pastries. This was my first time ordering from Philz, so I was beyond excited to see what I was going to get. The pick up time was between 4:30-5:00pm, and the place was practically empty when I arrived 20 minutes before 5pm. When I told the staff I was here for TooGoodToGo, he immediately placed a variety of different pastries into the bag. I opened the bag when I got home and saw that I got 3 muffins and an almond croissant. They were all delicious, especially after you place them in the toaster! Came here to do some work and ordered a small iced mint mojito the Philz way, which comes with cream and sugar. I ended up asking the barista if I could get some more cream and sugar and they were super friendly. The space is really big and there are bathrooms and plenty of outlets and seating. This is a really nice space to get some work done near Civic Center, but if you prefer a quieter space, maybe not ideal. read more

Between the music, street noise and chatter this is not the most quiet place to work but the excellent Tesora coffee helps make up for it. I appreciate the many outlets they offer to their customers & all the local art over every wall. This Philz draws a long line very quickly however the staff remain friendly and hospitable despite the spikes. Doordash and Philz are a fail on this. I understand that Philz tried to send a message but I mean there's still a disconnect here. Doordash doesnt even give any refunds even if you don't receive your order. And unfortunately when ordering the stock wasn't accurate at time of order. This was my first time here and the coffee was made perfect I got a honey and oat milk coffee I'm not a fan of oat milk but this was so good. I got some plant based sandwich thing I forgot the name of it in not really a fan of it the flavor was not my favorite but the place has good customer service . This place was not super clean I actually didn't see a staff come and clean the tables . Half the time the staff was not behind the counter. There is some type of code on the bathroom that you're supposed to ask the staff for . They never gave me the code and I was drinking water so I ended up leaving. I was a little disappointed at the scarcity of food items available, however. I settled for a granola bar. The Tantalizing Turkish coffee was just okay but my wife enjoyed her tea.
