Came into Philz Coffee early this morning to grab 4 coffees to go. I had a few blocks to walk home, and by the time I almost made it back, I noticed one of the cups was leaking through the bottom and had gotten coffee all over my new pants and new shoes. Once I got inside, the other cups also started softening and dissolving from the heat. Not sure if this is a new cup supplier or a bad batch, but I wanted to mention it because it was a pretty frustrating experience -- especially carrying multiple hot drinks. Hopefully this gets looked into. Service was good outside of this. read more

This location needs to do better. Online orders have taken a major step back. I order online and the wait is becoming worse every time. Worst part is when arrive the place is empty and still have to wait 10 extra minutes after the ETA. Also they act dumb when I place curbside orders. I tip generously and still have to call them so they can come outside to hand me my order. I am very patient but this has gotten out of hand. Going to take a break from this location for the rest of the year. We'll see where the service is at next year. For as long as it takes I'll spend same amount of time driving to Lincoln park or Chicago Ave location. read more

Amazing coffee. The attached photo is my order, which I highly recommend. I find the menu difficult to navigate for first timers, but the staff are eager to answer questions. Each time you pick up your coffee, they will ask if it is to your preference and if they can make any changes, something I have not experienced at other coffee shops. Stop grabbing coffees at spots like Goddess or Foxtrot and come here!! You won't regret it. My daughter raved about Philz. While we were waiting to see a show we dedicated that coffee would be a nice treat. Unlike the traditional chain coffee shops, Philz has their own blends as well as some unique specialty coffees. My wife had one of those but I don't recall the name. Whatever it was, they either used hemp milk or cashew milk. I'm typically not a fan of sweet creamed coffee. I have to admit this was good. My coffee was a grind with nothing in it other than their "Turkish Coffee" blend. I wanted something strong and this really did the trick. They also have a variety of baked items but neither of us were in the mood. Price wise, they are about the same as other boutique coffee shops. Great coffee at a decent price. Starbucks, watch out. I love taking walks around Old Town, especially on those random warm days (and even on slightly chilly mornings). I've wanted to try Philz for a while since my friend from California loves it. Recently, another friend also raved about the mint mojito drink, so I was sold. I walked in on Sunday morning around 9:30am and it wasn't too busy. The guys working there are all super nice and professional--some of the friendliest staff I've ever encountered at a coffee shop. I ordered a mint mojito drink the house way (no, it doesn't have alcohol), and one of the baristas asked me to try it before leaving. He offered to remake it if I didn't like it, which was very thoughtful and considerate! I ended up loving it. The mint mojito really lives up to the hype. It's delicate, and the fresh mint flavor is refreshing and complements the smooth coffee flavor well. It's creamy, but not too sweet. I have always wanted to try Philz Coffee, so I'm happy I got the chance to try it in Chicago! I asked the baristas what they recommended and they recommended the Iced Mint Mojito. I personally love anything mint flavored and this was the perfect drink. The drink was not too minty and was even garnished with some mint leaves! Came here today to get a black coffee. This Philz location is very easy to find. Very spacious inside. I saw groups of ppl working on their laptop. They also plays soft music indoor. But the volume can be a bit lower. I got the staff recommended Philtered Seoul medium roast coffee. $5.6 for a medium size. It's pretty pricy for a black coffee. Took a sip after got my coffee. Hmm, it's very diluted. Smooth but watery. I guess it is the water ratio is wrong when they make this coffee. Very sour with hinted hazelnut. Not my coffee pick if you ask me. read more

I got a surprise bag of leftover food from Too Good to Go, which is an app that lets restaurants sell food at a discount that would have otherwise been thrown out. I appreciate that Philz Coffee is on the app and fighting food waste! My bag had a variety of pastries and a bag of everything bagels. The pastries were all pretty tasty and huge! I have also been to this Philz Coffee just to get coffee and work. I find their coffee format to be confusing with how you order and the focus on just coffee not espresso drinks. Staff is always so friendly! It's great that there's a standing zone outside of the shop, so you could just drive up to grab your order. The coffee is rich and flavorful, and there are different "notes". Favorites are Jacobs Wanderbar, philharmonic, ginger snap and mocha tsora. read more

It was so refreshing to find a coffee shop that is different from the same old Starbucks and all their imitators. As soon as you walk in the door you can tell that Philz is different and in a good way. Their unique selection of coffees and teas is a refreshing change to the norm. We tried a few of these drinks but the one that truly stood out was the Iced Mint Mojito! Wow they even take the time to muddle the fresh mint! We were helped by one of the most professional muddlers I have ever met Chelsea who made our coffees and they blew our mind. Philz is one of my favorite coffee spots in Chicago! They have a few tables so it is not a bad place to study. I recommend the mojito, rose, or gingersnap drinks. Coffee & service are great but DO NOT GET ANY FOOD HERE! The pork sausage & potato burrito was pretty gross. Not sure how they cook it but the texture was like purée but meal-y. The egg had...grains?! Mixed with the cheese and potato it had a consistency that most resembled vomit. I showed them the "burrito" and asked if it was supposed to look like that. In a chipper tone, the girl said "yeah-that's egg". Which I guess was sweet, the WAY she said it. My first time going to a Philz Coffee and how convenient that it's right next to the OrangeTheory I go to in the mornings! Since I had never been, I just asked for what would be close to an iced vanilla coffee. I walked into the Old Town location, was warmly greeted and then promptly ignored. The person preparing the coffee finished the order they were working on, then tidied up and performed other downtime tasks, steadfastly avoiding eye contact. When the person working the register appeared, they likewise ignored me. For kicks, I stood there for 5 additional minutes before leaving. Full disclosure, I was in a sh*tty mood. The layout of the store is baffling with the menu posted on the wall most distant to the registers where it turns out the orders are taken. I wasn't real keen on waiting while they engaged in whatever hipster fad brewing method they have going on there. Ultimately, with the $5+ price tag, it wouldn't have taken 10% of this foolishness to make me abort the mission. read more
