Elaine's is a very cute retro cafe located in the Lincoln hotel. People here are too warm and so is the ambiance. They have a limited food and drinks menu, however, everything we tried we really liked it. My boyfriend got a Iced Latte with Vanilla syrup and I got a Macchiato with almond milk and vanilla and caramel syrup. Our server was very kind to let us know what to expect with the drinks and offered to exchange if we found the drinks to be really sweet or not of our liking. We also got a Spinach and Mushroom Croissant which was delicious (not vegan, but vegetarian) This place also has a limited cocktails menu, we didn't get a chance to try it however will surely do if I'm back in this neighborhood. Don't miss out the wall that captures "Elaine's Dogs". This is a pet friendly cafe and they usually like to capture e dog's photos for memory. Isn't that the cutest??!! My company is staying at the hotel as we are convening at a close location. I was excited to see a cute coffee bar in the lobby. So I go today, June 6 around 8:40am. - I was curious about how one of the offerings were made and I asked just so I can be sure abt what I wanted to order. - She let me know how it was made and I thanked her. She turns around a minute later and directed me to stand at the register to order. - She was the only one there so... that meant that she just didn't want me standing there behind her WITH OTHER PATRONS - As I was almost late for a meeting, I walked to the register and waited patiently. I took one of the review cards w/ qr code - She came over and I ordered. She just stood there staring at me. I made my order again. She continued to stare. I then asked if I ordered wrong. She looked at the review card and said "are you going to pay with the gift card or not?" I told her it was the review card (THAT IS IN BULK AT THE REGISTER IN FRONT OF HER FACE. - I didn't say this par but DUH) - So she could tell me to go wait for her by the register but cant ask me for a "gift card" that wasn't a gift card? Interesting. - Although the service was sh*tty, I still tipped 20% and left - I get my order and it is cold. I literally ordered a hot drink. This coffee shop is located across the street from Lincoln Park so it can serve as a good starting point before a walk in the park or a good resting spot afterwards. I visited Elaine's on a Saturday morning and it was extremely crowded but what coffee shop isn't on a Saturday morning. However, I imagine there is more traffic at this coffee shop on Saturdays because it is conveniently located across the street from the Lincoln Park Farmers' Market. And, depending on the hotel occupancy rate the overflow of hotel guests can add to the crowd since Elaine's is attached to Hotel Lincoln. But even with the hustle and bustle of out of town guests, tourists, and neighborhood folks, it is worth tolerating for Elaine's Avocado toast. It is served on sourdough bread, which is my preference, and comes with a light serving of spring mix on top. That day the order was perfect. The selection of coffee drinks is standard although they offer a Vanilla Lavender Latte, which I ordered and thought it was good. Elaine's doesn't strike me as the kind of spot where you bring your laptop and sit all day, mostly because there isn't much seating available nor is it as accommodating. Although I am sure people have tried it. But the atmosphere of the cafe is more accommodating to meet friends and chat over coffee. read more

No prices are listed so I was shocked that a basic cheese and bread sandwich, pastry, and small black ice tea came out to $30. Next to that waited 30 minutes in line just to be met with attitude when I kindly asked to have my grilled cheese after waiting 10 minutes for it to be warmed up and it not being given to me for 5 more. One worker tossed it to me in the bag and rolled her eyes after talking shit about a customer asking for a lid. Love how quiet this spot is - you feel like you're in your own little oasis. The place doesn't have much to offer with lunch options, but I strongly prefer a quick breakfast here. It's more of a coffee/tea joint. Probably one of my favorite of chai (closer to how they make it in India and not the franchised Starbucks kind). Two of us ordered the vanilla lavender latte with soy for 75 cents extra. The drink tasted like watered down coffee reminiscent of what you'd get at a college cafe made by people who don't care. Not to mention you're paying $5+ per drink! The coffee had hardly any hints of lavender or vanilla, or espresso for that matter. "Elaine's Coffee Call" is a tiny coffee shop attached to the Lincoln Hotel near the Lincoln Park zoo. Hubby and I were playing Pokemon Go at the museum campus area, had lunch in Lincoln Park, and then wandering around until the feeling of thirst creeped in. The coffee menu is pretty standard, featuring drip, Americano, latte, mocha, and macchiato. They serve "La Colombe," just in case you're curious. The number of seating inside Elaine's isn't too ample, but there are chairs and comfy sofas in the hotel lobby. I would recommend this coffeeshop as a launch point to somewhere fun, not as a place to get work done because there are lots of distractions, conversations, and hotel guests who check in and out. The location is great because it's within walking distance of Chicago History Museum, the Old Town business district on Wells, the zoo like I have already mentioned in the first paragraph, and some of the unique, trendy, and luxurious restaurants in Lincoln Park. read more

I'm writing this as I sit in Elaine's about to leave, because I couldn't wait to share how much I love it! It's not gigantic, but the charm of a good coffee shop relies heavily on coziness, anyway. I arrived around 9 a.m. (it's a Friday) and there was a line to order and just a few scattered open spots to sit. About an hour later, and there were a LOT more places to sit down with a book or your laptop. The two baristas working were incredibly calm -- but still apologetic to anyone who had to wait a little longer for their food -- during the rush of orders. I started sweating on my walk over because I was nervous it'd be busy in here (aren't I fun and relaxed?!?!), so I ordered a cold brew for my caffeine boost, but they're also offering a specialty lavender latte today for all of the normal human beings who are coming in from the cold! After a little while, I ordered a drip coffee. One of the baristas told me that since I'd been hanging out in the shop for awhile, a fun tip for the future is to ask for a ceramic cup. If you get a ceramic cup, refills are free! Because I didn't know this previously, he gave me my coffee for free. He did NOT need to do that. Bless. Along with coffee, Elaine's also has a great selection of food on their menu along with bakery items like muffins and scones. I love a good warm breakfast item, so I tried the egg white crepe. It took a few minutes to make, so if you're in a rush a muffin might be a better option for you, but if you have a few minutes to spare, I would say the crepe is worth the wait! It was perfectly cooked and will tide me over until I have a moment for a late lunch. [INFOMERCIAL VOICE] AND THAT'S NOT ALL! Elaine's walls are covered in this weird, quirky-looking wallpaper, there are old, colorful telephones and framed book quotes behind the bar, and there's a giant mirror in the middle of the room: So basically, if you're looking to take a cool coffee photo, this place provides the backdrop. Nice decor, friendly staff. Food was pretty good, not fantastic, but good for a daily breakfast or lunch. Egg, bacon, and smoked cheddar crepe was really good - made on the spot and not too rich. The pork loin sandwich was decent and heated for us quickly. The coffee is much better than the food - smooth and sweet. House made caramel and vanilla make it particularly memorable! Every time I travel to Chi town I always make it a point to start my morning off at Elaine's for that perfect cup of joe to get my morning started off with some caffeine bliss. Sadly on my last visit when I placed an order for one of their epic sea salt sprinkled chocolate chip cookies I was informed they were no longer making them‍‍‍. This totally ruined my Elaine's experience... How could they take something so epic off their menu???? After speaking with the staff and the staff of the Hotel Lincoln they too expressed their sadness and disbelief that the chef or owner would do such a thing... These amazing cookies were the one thing that made your taste buds scream with joy... They complimented the fresh La Colombe coffee perfectly... Heck it made our start to every morning in the city just right and prepared for whatever adventures awaited us ahead... I must admit our hearts and tastebuds were heart broken with this sad revelation... My heart and tastebuds will forever long for one of those epic cookies...
