I've eaten here three times, and have gotten a different burger each time, and each one has been vastly different, and fantastic! I've had Mooney's, Mighty Fine and Smash, and honestly, to me they're overpriced, under-portioned and overhyped. Phil's Icehouse, on the other hand, is affordable, has a good variety of burgers, and has very generous portions. They also have a decent beer selection for such a small location. The only issues I have is that this location is very inconvenient to get to and park at, and the seating is mostly picnic-style bench seating. The reason I can't give 5 stars and I feel it's necessary to let you know the service at this location is horrible. Snotty girls with obviously something better to do where they've lost the will to smile. This is pretty much every visit. They hate their job! Another negative are all the screaming kids. I just noticed this place recently and decided to try it out. The building the place is in was recently built, so everything in the pace is new. The menu is impressive with different variations of burgers and other fast food items. I elected to try the Phil- A -Buster burger, it was quite tasty. The meat on the burger was juicy and on par with a burger you would expect from a higher end burger place. The fries were also decent. The sourdough bun used on the burger was think and handled the juices from the burger and other topping without falling to pieces. I would definitely eat at this place again. read more

This burger place was pretty impressive! I had had them catered once at my work and it was pretty good so me and my husband decided to go try them out one weekend and we aren't disappointed. This location has a cool inside area with TV's, and outside play ground for kids then an ice cream shop tied to their store. I ordered the Allandale Burger and was a little skeptical about the "sour-dough bun" because I don't normally like them but it was delicious!! I loved that their fries are half sweet potato and half regular. We'll be coming back here for sure when we're craving a good burger! read more

I really like/love/hate this place! I like the food just fine...solid burgers/sandwiches, good fries, Maine root beverages. I just wish they had some healthier alternatives: a salad? fruit or veggies. Alright, alright, for a burger joint they DO have fried green beans for a side instead of fries, but still, as often as I would like to eat there, I can't because it just isn't ideal. So, why go? Because My 4 yr old LOVES it there. And therefore, so do I. There is a playground in the back that is shaded and spectacular. Several tables are out there too, so you can relax and enjoy chatting, eating and such at a leisurely pace while your littles get out their wiggles. In case you are worried that they will play and not eat, never fear, they will. Why you ask? Because there is Amy's Ice cream attached and the lure of possibly having ice cream makes every kid clean their plate. It is relaxed, fun and the food is average, but it is a really great outing for a family. We keep going back time after time because we like it AND because Phil's and Amy's supports local schools and businesses very strongly (in case you didn't know). We spend our dollars locally whenever possible and this place is one that we love to visit! Great spot for family gathering with a safe playground for the kids, easily viewed from inside or out under the shade trees. Food is always consistent....my fav is the 78704. Miss Coke products, though, alot!! why not 5 Stars? Ate here last week and it was a great beginning to a busy cold day. The staff were so nice and helpful-the menu has a lot of options and you can get mini BURGERS!!! Everything was hot and delicious and they have Main Root on tap!!! Fed two kids, myself and my husband for right around $25.00 felt like it was money well spent. We were so excited when we found out that there was going to be a phils up north so the kiddos can come and play and we enjoy the meal. So we came twice already and the first time on a weekend it was not too bad being that it was newly opened. Friendly staff, clean tables, and easy set up for ordering and getting to a table. Just like other Phil's it's connected to an Amy's ice cream too. 2nd time we came it was crazy busy like all of the other locations, so it seems they have been discovered already. Pros Awesome playground area. Huge and has tables around. Great burgers, as always. Love the violet crown burger! Awesome sweet potato fries ( slightly more burnt the second visit) All natural drinks, of course! Cons Kids hotdog was grey colored. Had to go back and order something else. Kids burger were ridiculously dry, even though the adult burgers rocked. Frito pie was insanely dry too. Very bland. No parking. Hopefully they will expand to the grassy area. Also the parking spaces were tiny. As in, unless you own a smart car or a Mini Cooper, your family car will not fit. Again!?! Family place, yet teeny tiny spaces. No changing table in bathroom! Hello? Family restaurant and no where to change a diaper. Now some other cons that may or may not be their fault: Too many crazy people who came to enjoy playground but not the food or the ice cream next door. Horrible parking by many cars, but with the tiny spaces, you did have to improvise some in maneuvering your massive expeditions. Couldn't really tell who was working or a guest. And this bothers me the most. Kids that are unsupervised and beyond control and horrible and bullying. People using phils inside table while eating ice cream from next door. Any burger on their menu can be made a veggie burger!! Not only that, but their veggie patties are delicious. My daughter is in love with it for a couple different reasons. There is a great playscape out back, and it is attached to an Ami's (because Amy and Phil are married). This place is great, and if you have younger children, it's one of the best. Service and food is always great! The menu is somewhat narrow, so you're basically getting a burger if you go here. I've never had a bad one. The dining space is always clean and the staff is super courteous. For an indecisive person like myself, this makes life easier. The menu is a little intimidating , but that's only because it all looks really good. Now that you are reading...I had extremely different results at my table. Some of the food was excellent. What wasn't appreciated: * 1 burger specifically ordered without tomatoes and onions ....for a pregnant patron. Yep, you guessed it right - onion and tomatoes had to be pulled off the burger. * 1 burger with Swiss and bacon only. Swiss was not melted and both the beef patty and the bacon was cool to cold...WHAT, how does that happen? We had to send it back and was given looks like we somehow messed up their day. When the properly cooked burger was brought out, there was an apology but it sounded insincere... like she was being forced to say it. In other words....this was franchise fast food behavior. * We asked for salsa on a burger but was told there wasn't any. When asked if the chefs could simply chop up some tomatoes and jalapenos into a relish, the answer (from Ryan) these are not chefs. Ok, so no salsa. Not a big thing in and by itself but this was not an isolated issue (nor difficult to accomplish). Personal observation: with all the variety...how did Phil forget salsa in Austin - HELLO! * My son and I both ordered mini trios (with each one being different to get a sense of the variety (so 6 different taste profiles). I asked if the "chefs" could manage cutting them all in half or if I needed to do that at the table. Ryan said he would work it out. They were each cut but far from equal...some were 1/3 and 2/3. So easy to get right....such a fail. Some of the ingredients that built the profile of the named burger was missing on the 1/3 portions...so much for brand management. * Oh, and they said there were no sweet potato (SP) fries. This is the standard for Phil's menu (mix of regular and SP). Perhaps we were lucky they still had beef (sarcasm). So far, we are talking trainable issues or easily remedied processes. It got worse: *** I noticed Ryan filling the ice bin (atop the soda dispenser) and after topping it up by filling emptying an ice pail multiple times, he used the ice pail to push down the ice inside the bin. This in essence introduced the ice in the bin to the kitchen floor. Nasty to think about ...extremely unsanitary. It is known in food service that a large percentage of food poisoning actually comes from ice. Someone needs to bitch slap some common sense into RYAN. ***** Ryan had one more incident where he was rude to my son when he used the paging system to call an employee to the counter. He called my son's name (actually waiting for something to be ready). When he came to the counter, Ryan said what do you want? Son - you called my name. Ryan - no I didn't. Son - you just said "[name] come to the counter". Ryan - (with attitude and a look of derision) THAT was for an employee! So... I spent ~$60 on food. That price does not include 2 few beers and a root beer float ordered afterwards. We were a nice ticket (in my opinion)...for taking up 5 chairs. I would consider coming back and try them again but there needs to be some attitude adjustments. I blame ownership for failing to assure that their organization was properly prepared to address the public and manage food properly. read more

Walked into Phil"s for the first time and was greeted by a young man named Ryan. He said hello ladies how can I help you today. We said, we have never been here before, what do you recommend, what is the favorite. He started off by saying well everything on our menu is great but i like the 78704 He also stated that they had veggie and turkey which my girlfriend loves veggie burgers. We agreed to try his recommendations after we held the line up for 5 minutes trying to decide what we wanted. What a very professional and courteous young man. Our order came out within just a few minutes and was fresh.He came to our table just to see how we where enjoying our food.This place is very clean and has hands down the best service and burgers around. It beats standing in the cold for 2 hrs at Hopdoddy any day .The burgers are the bomb . I can't wait to go back and try many things on the menu. I was dying to check Phil's out after hearing rave reviews from a friend. We went during a weeknight so the restaurant was rather empty. I ordered the Travis Heights burger. The sourdough buns were delicious and were slightly sweet. The sweet potato fries were yummy. My son who usually eats hot dog refused to eat his...well, the dog was a strange beige-gray color. I figured it couldn't be that bad so I took a bite and told him that he doesn't have to finish it. Anyway, I was about to give Phil's a thumbs up until I got the worst stomach ache on the way home. The burgers here, and at any Phil's Ice House, are delicious, but this place is a filthy germ factory. Every time I've been to the 183 North location, I've been confronted with un-bussed tables, food on the floor, and greasy hand/footprints of toddlers who've been walking and crawling on the vinyl booth seats all day long.
