Sooooooo, visiting a friend in VT and while they were at work needed food....we are both from Philly and they suggested I try the cheesesteak. I protested because who can do cheesesteak better than Philly?!?! Well, this place was indeed good (not Philadelphia level) but for Vermont, it was excellent. The meat was not salty and seasoned well, the onions well done just like I like them. My only complaint would be that they did not toast the bread (so lacking that crunch) and it was not cheesy enough. But it was a good size and I still have half for lunch tomorrow. The mozzarella sticks were delicious!! Well done and crunchy and gooey. Loves them. Great service. The attendant was very nice and welcoming. It's pretty big inside with enough seating (had benches). It was an okay cheese steak.. Bun not toasted rolls were very soft and preservative laden. We had the one with provolone, cheese wiz, mushrooms, onions, and steak. I wouldn't call it Philly... I've had better at Greek owned New England pizza shops. It will fill the void if you need a gut bomb, probably more fresh and healthy than most of McDonald's menu read more

Passing through Bennington on my way home back to New York and came across this GEM! The cheesesteaks are legit! The gentleman running the place has amazing customer service, friendly, and outgoing. The menu is decent but most of the sandwiches taste the same. Good but not accentuated by much flavor difference. Expect a greasy messy sandwich with plenty of protien. A good choice when in the right mood. The chicken bully is light enough to eat in one big sitting. The steaks are typically pretty heavy for one sitting. Expect to finish with a fork. read more

The prices here are moderate, most items $12.99 and up. I stopped by Philly's in Bennington for lunch recently for a traditional Philly ($12.99 plus tax) which was all set in 5 minutes after ordering. The size of the cheesesteak sub was modest which had grilled shaved steak smothered in cheese whiz and sautéed onions on a soft chewy roll (from Philadelphia). Had pizza here many times best pizza in the Northeast in my opinion. However for me to continue dining here the management has to please ask Neysa Pagan Cortes not to frequent the establishment anymore. She is known to steal from tip jars. She has an extensive prostitution history. Her son who she comes in with took out a restraining orer against her which she violated. She was expelled from college evicted from every street in Schenectady. She thrives on attention. She appears to be extremely friendly but it's a total decade. She has a bad temper and is known to be violent. In addition to jail she's been in a mental hospital for the criminally insane. For your safety and the safety of your clientele please do not let Neysa Pagan Cortes frequent your beautiful establishment. First thing noticed as we walked in was that the music was too loud. Kid behind the counter had less energy than me the day after an epic bender. Beer list was short, bottom of the barrel crap...and only coke, sprite, water, and tea for n/a options. Almost $50 for a sub that had half the meat I expected it to for the price, pretty bland and not a lot of cheese...and 12 chewy wings that were right on the edge of fully cooked. Hubs said the Buffalo sauce tasted like salty Franks. Honey Yaki was salty as well. (I know teriyaki generally is, but it's also usually my fave so not sure what happened here. Sandwich was great with plenty of steak, grilled onions, and Cheese Whiz. The Whiz was ok but next time I'd try conventional cheese. I came with a group of almost 20 people. The food tastes amazing. Heart attack city! Try the Jawns, you won't regret it. Clean inside and the owner is pleasant and helpful. The staff are a little underwhelming however. Just about every step of the process seems like a foreign concept for every employee. The music is uncomfortably loud nearly every time I've been here. Enough that I've chosen to wait outside instead. The wait seems way longer than need be. I suggest ordering ahead if you don't want to wait 30 minutes at the counter and taking the amazing food somewhere quieter to enjoy. Bring a fork! You'll need it! read more
