Not exactly hidden, but definitely a gem in this rural setting...the food was fantastic and the prices definitely fair...a big, handmade burger, fries and 2 beers for under $20...I'll take it! Definitely worth the drive off the beaten path

Ok. Listen up. This is a nondescript kind of place. Nothing to write home about....except. THEY HAVE THE BEST PHILLY STEAKS EVER!!! They get their rolls from PA every day...honestly the amount of meat was enormous and moist...and the amount of food they have on their menu is out of this world. If you go to DeLand GO here!!

Happen to stumbled into this charming little diner last weekend…read more From the moment you walk through the door, the warm, friendly greeting makes you feel genuinely welcome. The staff was super friendly, great has small-town hospitality vibe. Since we stopped for breakfast let's start with the coffee, absolutely fantastic. Rich, fresh, and hot - and they never let your cup get below half full. I swear the waitress had a sixth sense for it because my mug was topped off with a smile before I even realized it was getting low. You don't see that here in Miami. The portions are wonderfully generous without being ridiculous. My vegetable omelette was loaded with fluffy eggs & veges, crispy bacon, and perfectly golden hash browns - and the biscuit! Love me a good southern style biscuit! Everything tasted homemade like someone's grandma was back in the kitchen looking out for you. Best of all? The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity you get. I left feeling so FULL that my next meal was dinner. If you're looking for a cozy spot with great food, excellent coffee, and people who actually care about making your visit special, stop by this little diner.

I also ordered the sirloin dinner with fries and the sirloin was so tough. You couldn't chew it. A lot of the food didn't have seasoning. It was very bland, not even salt and pepper. We sat near the window and the windowsill was extremely healthy They had a fly problem with flies flying all around, but it was a diner so what do you Our server was the most lovely southern woman I've met since living in Florida. She was extremely kind and tried her best to fix all of our complaints. She offered us a discount on the food that we didn't eat, and she kept our drink drinks, full, very attentive the service was a 10 out of 10.

Visited Chicas quite a few times over the years. This time was a bit different than the other. We…read morehad a small wait for a table so we sat at the bar. While there we noticed a bartender Juan making drinks. I couldn't help but notice the time he took to make sure the presentation of every drink he made was perfect. I got to talking with the young man and asked if he knew how to make a caipirinha ( I am of Brazilian descent and it's like a Brazilian mojito) not only did Juan know EXACTLY what it was but he made it to perfection. Fast forward and we get called to our table only to find out Juan was taken off bar duty and he was our server. He took the best care of the party I brought to Chicas that night. Juan, hopefully you see this. Keep up the good work and continue to care about the work you do as you will go far in life.

We planned on eating at another restaurant during our day trip to Deland, but it was closed…read more Checked out Chica's on Yelp and it was a short walk (right downtown) so we decided to give it a try. It's in a lovely old building which apparently also houses a hotel - gorgeous wooden floors and a warm, inviting interior. Parking lot next to restaurant was full but there is free parking downtown just a block away. It was crowded at lunchtime and they had some big groups, so we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Our server (Maria?) was wonderful. I started with a caipirinha - not often on cocktail menus and it's one of my favorites - it was delicious!). Hubs and I both had the chicken soup and it was amazing - I would come back just for that. Hubs had the pollo à la plancha - the chicken was ok but the black beans were definitely the star! The tostones as a side were stone cold and very tough to chew - it was sadly our least favorite thing (and I LOVE tostones!). I had a beef empanada and a chicken empanada - they were ok.
