I was referred to Dr Quilici by my primary doctor. I also was referred by two friends that stated he was the best surgeon for gallbladder laparoscopic surgery. I knew then I would be in good hands. Horrible! Arrogant, rude, and just wants your money. My husband is 80 years old and has had 2 surgeries within the last 3 months by Quilici. He NEVER EVER even had the decency to call me and tell me how my husband's surgeries went! I am shocked! I had to call and ask for the results!? The First surgery they took out his colon and he got an Ostomy bag. I had to go into my husbands patient portal to get the operation report and then get it translated! Can you believe that! Disgusting.He called me back and gave me all of 2 minutes. . We just had surgery again the past week. I was told to wait in my husbands room and he would be there. Never showed! I waited 2 hours. I have called many times and it is now Friday and he still has not called To tell my how the surgey went. I even went the. Ext morning at 6:30 am to see if I could catch him on his rounds. NOPE!On top of that, my husband had a reverse ostomy surgery , very big surgical wound. The dr will not prescribe pain medication . My husband is 80 years old, had major surgery and now I have to watch him in horrific pain. He was given Tramadol. He just had MAJOR surgery! 80 years old for gosh sake. " Do NO harm"... he just wants to operate, get paid, operate, get paid. He is a criminal! Oh, the first time we saw him he spent 5 minutes, never examined my husband and said " he needs surgery". I should have listened to some physicians I know because ,when I mentioned Quilici, there was not a nice word said. He is exactly what you do NOT want in a dr. I would never go to this doctor. I took my best friend in to St. Joseph's for a hiatal hernia problem, he did this procedure of using a gtube to anchor her stomach down and out of her chest The doctor was very rude to me as her PO and difficult in communicating her needs or understanding her memory decline which I had mentioned on several occasions when she was admitted to the hospital so I had to explain that she didn't understand the importance of getting her issue taken care of because he was about to dismiss the procedure thinking she didn't want it. After several weeks recovery and going to his office for a follow up ( which he just looked at her and said she seems ok ) she was doing pretty fine until, because of her memory decline she dislodged her gtube and had to go back to the hospital, however, when the dr at emergency call his office they said to just leave it and it would heal up on it's own, ( it was supposed to be there for life so that made no sense and she was having digestive pain). She finally had to go back to emergency to have it replaced. I thought Quiilici was going to do the replacement but from the billing it looked like a Dr Tovar did and she started to get a bit better but developed acid reflux . S Dr hack called me to tell me she seemed fine and I could pick her up on Sunday. However when I got there she wasn't dressed and in pain and the so called nurse was forcing her to drink this chocolate drink which she didn't want ! I had to tell the nurse she shouldn't have chocolate with reflux but she didn't seem to care. The Drs came in and said they wanted to do an echocardiogram test on her Monday and when I got to the hospital they said she was having some problem and in a special room. I immediately went up to that room only to watch my best friend slowly die! I was devastated! I would never tell anyone to see iether one of those doctors or go to St. Joseph's as I found out from a friend her husband died in a similar way there. read more

I called and spoke with KIM. She is the schedule TSAR apparently. I tried explaining to her that I have an urgent surgery requirement. I explained that I have Tricare Select PPO for retirees. I had read a review stating that he moves fast and was in the hospital over the weekend and need surgery soon, so this *seemed* optimal. She said that I need to get a referral from the VA. 1. I explained to her that the The VA does not operate like that and 2. That I went through a private physician and that the VA is in NO WAY involved in this. She refused to listen. I asked to speak with her supervisor and she said that her supervisor is with a patient. I said I would hold. She told me she would NOT transfer me to a supervisor and that SHE was in charge of the calendar and the soonest I could schedule a consult was Feb 9th. So I asked how to get a referral from the ER that I was in this weekend and she refused to answer. I gave her my number and as I was asking a question she hung up on me. I called back and identified myself and she immediately hung up on me. She does NOT understand the process and is providing inaccurate information and refusing to be accountable. I called back and spoke with Marcella. She was able to tell me what I needed to do to get the referral sent over. By the end of the conversation I was so frustrated. I'm going to look at other options. The level of arrogance is ridiculous. I am literally studying to be a doctor and I am taking notes for the types of people not to hire. After reading the other reviews, it's seems to be systematic. Arrogance and healthcare do NOT go hand in hand. To be completely clear, this doctor LOST my business due to the front desk. read more

I deeply regret putting my health and wellbeing in the hands of Dr. Quilici, and strongly believe that it is in a patient's best interest to go elsewhere. 2 years ago I was treated by Quilici, 6 months of that spent recovering, and I am still dealing with the results of his work. He is the sole reason I switched from an HMO to PPO. Simply put, surgery is the business he is in and he does not shy away from resorting to the most invasive kinds before exploring alternative solutions. As a result, you can expect your appointments to consistently begin an hour late. You can expect him to be rushed and distracted during your appointment. You can expect little to no aftercare. You can expect a long and painful recovery. You can expect trips to urgent care and the ER. An important detail is he does not like to be questioned. As a result you can expect to never receive clear answers to your questions. You can expect that your concerns will be dismissed rather than addressed. What was done to me is done, and my only goal in writing this is to hopefully save someone else from going through what I went through. read more

Waited 1hour for my name to be called for my 11:45am appt. Noticed that there were 4 other people who had appointments at the exact same time as mine. When finally sat in the patient room. The doctor spent less than 2min with me. This was my first visit where as they needed to diagnose a problem with a growth on my wrist. He touched it, then said " let's get you an appointment for an MRI" and he was done. I literally walked out of the office, including paying my copay, at 12:47pm. read more

He can't even stay in a patient's room for 5 minutes!!!!! He is so arrogant and seems like he does not care for his patients. After my yearly physical it was clear I needed to have a relatively minor surgery and my internist recommended Dr. Quilici. I looked at Yelp reviews and saw a few that said his bedside manner was not as comforting as they felt it could be. Nevertheless, my internist said he was a terrific surgeon and I decided to heed his advice. Not only did Dr. Quilici do a wonderful job, but he could not have been more pleasant and upbeat, and his entire team at Saint Joseph's was great. Surgeons who are as good as he is are going to be busy, and having been forewarned, I was prepared for a quick consult before the surgery, but again, he was focused, fully present, and ready to answer any questions. Admittedly, he seemed grateful that after his description of the procedure and the recovery period, I only had one, but he'd explained everything perfectly, and it all went exactly as he described. Recovery was quick, and when I saw him saw me 8 days later, he seemed as pleased as I was and gave me the okay to do whatever I wanted to do. If you have to have a surgery, I had one of the easiest, and the perfect surgeon to do it. read more

Thank you Dr. Q for taking care of my appendicitis however, there was no follow up from your staff upon discharge as it was performed by the hospitalist, which was a male. Your office charged my insurance and now I have a bill for services which were not rendered by one of your staff members, which said it was a female. Fraud is not right. I have been very kind and have shown great patience towards the office staff and billing. I spoke to a woman who said she was going to talk to you all about it. Now, she refuses to answer my emails, take my calls and when I return the bill and explain - I am dismissed. Poor business practice. The medical staff is excellent, but their time management sucks. Patients are given an appointment, but unfortunately, they can't be seen even after 15 - 30 minutes set appointment due to no rooms being available. I requested enough time at work to go to this appointment. Even with ample time, they were not able to see me, so basically, I wasted time and money. They rescheduled me for a different appointment, which is upsetting since I contacted them prior due to one of the surgical wounds opening the top layer. I was told to clean the area and put on a bandage. I would put a picture of the wound, but it is disgusting. I liked my being experience, but now I was left unsatisfied. read more

I am just disappointed in the office staff where they diid not follow up with me for authorization. I had to call them few times and still no help. The reason is because they see many patients. Had surgery for a pilonidal cyst and Dr Quilici was my surgeon. Typically, these types of medical issues are seen in males (I am a woman) because of the nature of how the issues spring up. I, unfortunately, got mine as a result of SA, with it resulting in extreme trauma to that area that didn't heal properly. When I came to Dr.Quilici, he spend the entire appointment arguing with me that I couldn't have gotten it that way. That it's genetic. But that is not the only way someone can get it and his own nurse had to step in to explain it to him so he would stop fighting with me. Since the surgery, I have been an afterthought, and dealing with an infection from the procedure. He refuses to give me pain medicine so we can re-open my stitches to address the issue and has scheduled back-to-back, traumatic dr visits. Because I got this injury from a violent assault by a man who didn't care about my pain, you can understand why having a doctor who is careless about how he handles that same area could re-traumatize me making it hard to receive any future care from him. I feel like I am living in a horror movie Starring Dr.Quilici MD. He's got ZERO bedside manner, can't remember anything we talked about last visit, and treats you like your a medical test dummy with no feelings, emotions, or life outside of those office walls. If you can go somewhere else, DO IT. If you are a young POC woman with any anxiety around men, this is NOT the place for you. You need a high pain tolerance and a strong mental state to deal with this doctor. read more

This man actually accomplished nothing short of a miracle. Being diagnosed with a stage 3 tumor in my rectum i was to have it removed, and be given a colostomy. I flat out refused the colostomy, fully aware of the consequences. He strongly argued for it and the fact that they said it was temporary made no difference. I wrote on the margins of every form, "no colostomy" and wrote it on my arms and legs and stomach in blue ink. I was wheeled in to surgery pretty sure i was going to go home with that tumor still in me, and look forward to planning my funeral. But i woke up without the tumor and he was able to reattach everything!!! Tomorrow I celebrate 10 years cancer free. I'm grateful for the amazing team that worked so hard to save me. You can be the best surgeon in the world, but if your staff lacks customer service skills, then it ultimately doesn't matter. My first visit to the office I waited for almost an hour and a half to see the doctor. Once I was in a room, his patient coordinator didn't even bother to introduce herself, was incredibly patronizing and kept interrupting me. For the exam with the doctor, she was incredibly rough, helping him get me into position. I understand that this is a painful and uncomfortable exam, but there's no need to shove the patient around. I think I saw the doctor for about 10 minutes total. The doctor prescribed a prescription that I have to take and coordinating with the office was proved to be taxing. A week later and I still have no answers, they keep asking for the same information and never seem to know what the right or left hand is doing. When I called back at the end of the day today, after being promised a call back, the person on the phone yelled at me. That's the last straw. I will remain in pain until I find another doctor who's office understands that patients are just trying to get answers, help and are don't require you to do all the work. read more

Don't ask questions. Don't hesitate. Don't make eye contact. Don't ask why you been waiting for two hours. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Quilici and Dr. Tovar. I went to St. Joseph's ER in Burbank, thinking I had an especially severe stomach flu. No, it was my gallbladder throwing the worst tantrum in the two years I'd been having problems with it. Another surgeon, in Glendale, decided to turn me down as a patient because he felt my case was too complicated for him (he's a bariatric surgeon). Dr. Quilici and Dr. Tovar were gracious and took me as a patient, despite my being on Medi-Cal. The surgery was extremely organized and my post-op pain was so much LESS than the pain before surgery. These doctors have a team that runs like a Swiss watch and that made me very happy. As I write this, I'm almost two weeks post-surgery, with no problems and small laparoscopy incisions that are healing very well. Both doctors have a sense of humor that I love. "Dr. Q" (as I call him) is very humble, as is Dr. Tovar. They truly care about their patients and they love what they do. It is never all about the money with them, which is refreshing in this day and age. While I didn't have to wait when going to my follow-up appointment, I did spend two hours waiting when my mom was in for follow-up. People were waiting for a long time and some patients were having meltdowns. I went in prepared for a long wait because when you have the best surgeons in SoCal, it WILL take time. Bring a book, check your 'tude at the door, and know that you are in the BEST hands ever. read more

I thought I would just write a short paragraph. I had gastic bypass 09/01/2009. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have a very small frame. 5'1" short. I was weighing in at 218 lbs. I was on a yo yo diet for years and years. Finally i made up my mind that i had to do something for myself. Thanks to Dr. Quilici at St Joseph in Burbank and his staff for the surgery and all the kindness they offered me. It's been several years since I have been back to them but I thought I would just write this short paragraph. Oh I'm at 105 and holding. From the initial phone call to set up my appointment to my conversation with Dr. Quilici, everything was professional, and equally important, friendly and cheerful. At the office the receptionist was cheerful and efficient. The nurse that took all my vitals and preliminary intake information was very efficient and complete. The PA who did an initial assessment was equally efficient, friendly, and complete. Dr. Quilici was friendly, answered all my questions without making me feel hurried. Complete time at the office, including filling out first patient visit paperwork, nurse intake, PA assessment, and consultation with Doctor was less than 40 minutes. The doctor spends maybe 10min with you after a life changing diagnosis. Office takes forever to get further labs and tests scheduled (even referred me to a lab that doesn't perform the scan I needed). Once MRI was done, it took them three weeks to call me to make an appt to review the results. During that time, I changed doctors and already had discussed the results and treatment plan with them. I notified his office twice that I would no longer be seeking their services. His office is still scheduling tests for me months later for a body part I no longer even have. They're lucky I have a sense of humor. His office staff is either incompetent or overwhelmed. Either way, this is all very irresponsible. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I had high hopes for this surgeon as he came well-recommended. What an absolute joke. It is clear this surgeon is far more interested in patient-statistics than in the patients themselves. You are not treated as an individual in this practice. You're seen as a cookie-cutter punch out. A carbon copy of each patient before you. This physician has zero regard for your personal life, your career, or your health. His only concern is how you appear as a statistic in his records. He makes no time for you. He skims what little medical history you've given. He does not care how the surgery may affect your life and well-being long-term. He even claims St Joseph's is a "BETTER HOSPITAL" than Cedars Sinai. An outrageous claim. Having expensive renovations doesn't improve the post-surgical infection rates, cleanliness, or quality. You, sir, are a jackass. In addition to Quilici being self-centred and ignorant toward the individual's needs, his patient coordinator Julie S is incredibly condescending, arrogant, and clueless. She doesn't respond to patient inquiries and ignores emails. I attempted three times to reach her to respond to her curt and impersonal voicemail. *eyeroll* par for the course in this joke of a medical practice. In the five minutes a group of us were left alone in the conference room, we discussed Julie's unsavory attitude and patronizing tone. The consensus: She should not be interacting with patients. She's total rubbish at it and her personality is downright offensive to anyone with at least a modicum of intelligence. Her delivery is also total crap. I cannot believe she's paid to represent this office. There are so many top rated and qualified surgeons in Los Angeles. Quilici doesn't deserve to be included in the list. If you can stomach excessive wait times, being treated like cattle for slaughter, and enjoy heaps of condescension, this office and staff are definitely suited for you. If you value your time, if you value your health and well-being, if you expect to be contacted in a reasonable time frame (especially if you are RETURNING A CALL FROM THEIR OFFICE), if you are an individual with a medical and health history that takes more than 2 minutes to review and not interested in being treated like a scribbled pile of notes in a poorly-constructed patient packet.. run. Run away. Run far far away and seek a better physician/surgeon. Quilici doesn't give one iota of f*** about anything but your $ and the tally-mark on his record. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Dr. Quilici perfomed my recent gallbladder surgery. He comes highly recommended and was polite enough BUT his office is so poorly run that I couldn't recommend him. For starters it is virtually impossible to get through when you call them. Then when you have an "appointment" the typical wait time in the office when you arrive for your appointment is 75 minutes. They fill the lobby and call Patients only as one of their exam rooms come available (I think they have 6 rooms and there are usually around 30 people waiting). Then the doctor spends around 5 minutes with you and moves on. It's so disrespectful. I get it, you are an excellent surgeon but please understand that our time is valuable too! read more
