I have been going to Dr Christine Szeto for years. Highly recommend their professional staff and Doctor to anyone needing her services.

I have actually never written a review. However, I will echo the sentiments of many others that Adelaide (the receptionist) is a giant problem. Frankly, I didn't have the care issues with Dr. Szeto that others describe (in fact I thought she was quite good and professional), but Adelaide is one of the most unprofessional and rude individuals I have ever come across. She interrupts you, cuts you off, doesn't let you talk, and is condescending in so far as she just hangs up on you. I left Dr. Szeto's care after four years simply due to Adelaide's behavior. I do recommend Dr. Szeto as a physician, but her receptionist needs some serious coaching on simple manners. Nobody needs to deal with that when simply calling to request an appointment. read more

My daughter was Dr. Szeto's patient for 20 years. Earlier this year when she has trouble breathing she saw Dr. Szeto. Who tried many things but didn't want order a CT scan because she "didn't want to expose her to that much radiation." Well after four months my daughter found another doctor. Now my beautiful daughter is getting radiation several times a week for her stage four cancer in her brain which started in her lungs, Every doctor who hs seen her has said that if they had caught the lung cancer earlier it would not have traveled to her brain. My new job means insurance that this office doesn't take anymore which makes me sad but I wanted to spread the word. I've been seeing Dr. Szeto since I was 17, she has made me feel so comfortable and I always felt like she really listens. I even went to her and paid out of pocket I am so unwilling to switch doctors. Yes you can wait a while to see her. She is so awesome she has many patients and books up fast. Always liked Dr. Szeto but staff (reception)has been horrible for as long as I can remember (5yrs). I never write reviews but I finally got fed up. I simply just asked that my Doctor call me back for 2 min conversation for something I was concerned about but can only assume why she didn't call me back. Always goes back to the staff. Repeatedly asked receptionist for voice mail but kept trying talk over me. And mysteriously always seem to get disconnected. Anywho I hope nobody comes across the same experiences that I have (doubt it though). I had brought it to Szeto's attention before it never changed. Time to move on. read more

I never got the chance to see the doctor. I wish I had but when I call to make an appointment and the first impression from their front office staff Adalyn (however you spell her name), was rude then hard pass. Not only did they have new patient appointments two months out, I was also told I had to call and verify my insurance. Little did this person know I work in the insurance industry but still insisted I call and speak to someone at my insurance. Sorry, but service and how polite you are to people is big I don't care who they are. I'm afraid it's a no for me. read more

This review is only based on my experience with her receptionist. Called at 3pm for an appointment to establish care, receptionist immediately stated "ok two things, first we are booked out until July and second what insurance do you have" very matter of factly, I felt like she wanted to me to elsewhere from the start. I advised her I have PPO insurance and what company, she continued to come up with every reason she could to tell me I needed to make sure she's in network. I told her I have already confirmed on my insurance company's website, but she insisted they bill under their practice name and not the doctor's. I'm checking this while speaking with her and as I'm trying to let her know their medical group is also in network, she's trying to talk me out of scheduling and insisting I still call my insurance company, while backtracking and trying to correct herself in a low voice, then telling me once I do that, I can call her back on Monday because they close on a few minutes. I was stunned and at a loss for words, as I was saying ok thank you and ha- she politely disconnected the call while I was speaking. I have seen a lot of doctors and spoken with a lot of receptionists and have never had one come across so incompetent and determined to not see a patient. Bizarre and unprofessional. I'll be finding a different doctor's office where I can talk to people who do want to have patients, are knowledgeable, and can extend some basic courtesy. read more

When I asked about PCOS testing (because I had seen a dermatologist that said I should consider looking into this), she actually laughed and said 'if you aren't trying to get pregnant, it doesn't matter'. My new doctor referred me to get an ultrasound, with a follow up, to check on ovarian cysts when I asked about PCOS. Also, when I was clearly showing signs of depression, she showed human signs of compassion as I sat there in tears, but made no recommendation or attempt to refer me to someone to discuss anything related to mental health. Oh, she did say 30 minutes of exercise is like taking meds ... which is insufficient advice. Honestly, I wish for anyone in pain or anyone who actually wants to advocate for their own health to find ANY other doctor. Also, the front staff was incredibly rude. read more

Just went to Dr. Szeto for the first time a few weeks ago by a friends recommendation. She is amazing! I was so anxious because of Covid and she really put me at ease. She was wearing a mask and a face shield on top of being vaccinated. She was so calming, pleasant and professional! When it came to my health issues she was very knowledgeable and proactive with offering a great health plan for me. Loved my experience! read more

I always saw her 1-5 times per year, but in Jan. 2019, when I went to see her for a high blood pressure spike she laughed at me. For some reason she thought it was funny that I came to see her for advice when my BP was 190/90 and I was having nose bleeds. As she laughed she said "It has only been this high for 2 days, ha ha ha, there is nothing to worry about, hahaha". She left the room laughing. I did not go back to see her when I started to have dizzy spells because I felt she would laugh again, so I went to a cardiologist. For a year now, I have been under the care of specialists, but I thought I'd go see Szeto to get some advice on which HBP med. she thought would be best and to have some prescriptions that she had written in the past refilled. She immediately said very loudly "I haven't seen you in a year!!" I began to tell her about the cardiologist but she cut me off and asked "What is the problem today, one thing please?" I asked her about HBP meds and she contradicted herself about what to take for a spike. She was all over the place and hard to follow. Then she repeated "One year that you have not been here!!! I will only give you one prescription and you have to come back in 3 months if you want me to prescribe anything else." I then had had it and I told her "The last time I was here you laughed at me and said there was no reason to see you with high BP with bloody nose if it had only been happening for 2 days, so I figured you were too busy to be bothered unless it was something serious." She began speaking so loudly that I realized I was going to have to find a new primary care doctor. I stood up, got my cardiology records which she was not interested in anyway, and I said "BYE!" Furthermore, her new office is so dirty that I have to use a tissue before touching the door handles. UGH. Someone should clean them once in a while. To make matters worse, when I checked in, her staff member said I had a balance due. She said my insurance had paid the claim but the check was never cashed so the insurance sent another check but she had no idea if that check had been received or not, YET she wanted me to call my insurance and straighten it out. I refused to do their work for them and she scowled at me. Her staff has always been a big problem but I overlooked that. I thought that because I was a loyal patient the doctor would reciprocate, BUT she doesn't! read more

The office is clean, welcoming and set up with covid precautions. I have been seeing Dr. Szeto since 1998 as my GP. I have followed her from practice to practice. What I liked about her initially is that she listened, doesn't hand out RX's withough just reason,is kind, and did not over treat or order unnecessary tests. She was accessible and real. I was very healthy through my 20's and early 30's so I didn't need someone to be one step ahead of me. Skip ahead a decade or so.... to the bad! For two years (as I gained weight and continued to be more and more tired) I struggled with her to help me figure out what was wrong. All along I thought it was my thryoid, but she didn't think that made sense. I trusted my instinct finally and made an appt with an endo. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I still continued to see her after that a couple of times. One year after having my thryoid removed I felt pain in my ovary. I went to her. She said - "oh it's probably nothing", follow it for a little while. I asked to have the CA 125 cancer screen blood test and she told me I was being overly concerned and denied me. I went to my OB and he ordered an ultra sound (finding a complex cyst) and then did the CA 125 (which thankfully came back negative). Her new practice is very very busy. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to get an appt if you are sick or have a immediate need and several months to schedule a yearly exam. The scheduler, Adeline, is rude, snide, and unprofessional. You will be put on hold for a long time and when she does come back to the line she will be distracted and put you on hold again. Don't waste your time trying to get an appointment here. read more

Didn't offer 0 stars. It's March 1, and I called for an appointment. I'd be a new patient. I was told I need a "new patient consultation" before even being examined. The earliest I could get in would be late June, if I want the afternoon. For a morning appt., I'd have to wait until July. If that wasn't bad enough, I was asked a question, and in the middle of my answering their question, I was put on hold. A simple "excuse me", wouldn't have killed them. Glad I'm not sick. Couldn't get in to see the doctor until I was better...or dead. Guess I'll stick to going to Urgent Care on an as needed basis. read more

Wow. I didn't want to believe the other reviews about the rude reception, but sadly they're true. My colleague recommended this doctor but unfortunately, this doctor does not want me as a patient. I called on Friday to set up an appointment as a new patient, I knew my insurance would cover this doctor because I had already checked under their separate billing name; I was told I couldn't get an appointment until October. However, the person I spoke to on Friday did not believe that my insurance accepted and insisted I call back on Monday. I called today (the following Monday) and spoke to an even more rude person, Adelaide, who never asked my name but instead questioned my insurance coverage and told me I could not get an appointment until end of November or December. She was very condescending and tried to make me feel like I didn't deserve to be accepted as a new patient ... as though I was trying to sneak into a an exclusive Academy Awards party, or like I was trying to get a reservation at Nobu Malibu on July 4th or something. Sheesh, it's just a doctors appointment. Is this doctor in Burbank really that special and exclusive? I doubt it. After I begged for an apology, I explained this is the last place I will consider trusting with my healthcare. Shameful. read more

i first saw Dr Szeto when my then GP was on vacation and Dr Szeto was the on-call dr. After my GP retired, I started seeing Dr Szeto as my regular doctor. She was always great, but now that she has moved into her own practice, it's even better!! The best thing about Dr Szeto is that she tries to get her patients to make lifestyle changes rather than handing out RXs like candy on Halloween. I especially like that she listens and understands the concerns about costs of treatments and insurance drug coverage. That's appreciated in this day and age! From the moment you enter this 90's inspired waiting area (that can be a good thing), you are greeted by people who feel emotionally invested in your health. EVERYONE is smiling, but not in a creepy way. More in a 'I want to make a difference in the world' kind of way. Then SHE comes in. The legend that is Dr. Christine Szeto. Small enough to fit in your pocket, you'll most definitely fantasize about folding her up and taking her home with you. She will sit and talk to you about your health, your history, your future needs. She will not rush, talk down to you, or dismiss your concerns. She will care, ask questions, come up with a plan. She will make you feel justified when you ask about making sure the plan is something your insurance will cover. She will email the front desk right then and there to make sure they know that too. She will be the best thing Obamacare brings to your life, since she accepts Covered California plans. Love Dr. Szeto and her team. I've been with her for about 8 years. She has seen me and my two girls since their birth for all their check ups and all their sick visits. She remembers small personal facts from prior visits and is just always so kind to my girls. To the point that my oldest (turning five) runs to give her a hug when she sees her and suggests to me that she needs to see her if she's not feeling well. True, that she's busy (she's a family doc, what do you expect) but if she's in office, always manages to squeeze me or my girls in if we're not feeling well and always answers my 101 questions I have. Nurse Carrie (along with the other nurses and staff) are amazing and also very sweet. read more

Though I had to pay for parking and wait for an hour, my visit with Dr. Szeto made it all worth it. She was attentive and listened well. She also had a very calm and composed presence that made me know she was paying attention to our interaction, not thinking about her last or next patient. I would never recommend this doctor. I think she forgot about the oath that she took. I had an appointment and still had to wait for 45 minutes before seeing the doctor. Just called to schedule a new patient appt. Was told by the receptionist that their systems are down and I would need to call back to schedule. Here's a tip: focus on patient service, take my info, and call me when your systems are back up. Still, I said that would not be an issue, I'd call back. She then said what insurance do you have? I told her I have Anthem PPO, that's how I found Dr. Szeto. She insisted that even though they accept PPO, I would need to call my insurance and verify, with their tax ID, that they accept my insurance. I told her the name of my plan and she said she wasn't sure if it's in-network and I'd need to call. LOLLLLLL. PASS. Being told to do all the leg work by the front office and I'm not even a patient yet. Here's another tip: build your front office up with people that know the value of going the extra mile. I can't believe that with all the competition, there are still offices that don't care about losing patients. read more

I Love Dr. Szeto and Dr. Cherns office. they are very nice to my son and my family. We have been going to them since My 3 yr old was born. Dr. Szeto was the one who examined him when he was first born and I loved the way she cared for him. She was very detailed and professional. Everytime I have had a concern with my son, I have contacted her, via email, or just called the office and she responded to my concerns or asked me to schedule an appt if necessary. Dr. Chern saw us once and she is also very nice, and detailed about our concerns. Sometimes it has been difficult to get an appt but if they know its urgent they do squeeze you in. The assistant too who has given my son his shots has always been very nice and friendly. The receptionist as well. I cant really say otherwise with them. so all in all. Dr. Szeto actually deserves 10 stars.... but like the reason I couldn't give 5 stars is because for annual "check ups" it can take anywhere from 1 month to 3 months to get in to see her. I GET IT. I felt like I had to leave a review because she truly is the best doctor I've ever come in contact with! She is so caring, answers all of my questions, will take time to sit and talk to you until you understand, and the front desk ladies who run the phone lines are always so kind and helpful. Dr Szeto guided me through many illnesses, including when I had stomach ulcers, never making me feel rushed or uncertain. I have been going to Dr. Szeto for over 10 years and would never dream of seeing another doctor. She is caring, competent and gives her full attention during appointments. She has a calming demeanor and is a very good listener. Another quality I appreciate about her is that she is not one to over medicate her patients. She will administer prescriptions when necessary, of course, but isn't one of those doctors who just wants to hand out a thousand prescriptions for everything. She makes educated decisions and seems to REALLY consider what the appropriate treatment is. You can tell that she loves what she does and truly cares for the well being of others. I have been going to Dr. Szeto almost 20 years now. I had to switch because the doctor I was seeing in Pasadena was terrible - they had me come in for a fasting blood test and then made me wait another two hours before they saw me (with no other patients in the office). Dr. Szeto took me right away and explained she was going to be leaving on maternity leave soon (with her first child). She has been always be kind and forthcoming with me about my medical issues and has helped me a lot. For that her practice gets 5 stars. She even has her staff check in on me when I forget to make an appt! Over the years I've recommended her to friends and family and they are happy patients of hers or Dr. Chern's. I do agree with the other poster about Dr. Kaspar. He is terrible. If I need to get in for an urgent appt. and Kaspar is the only option, I'd rather pass and suffer through whatever ailment I have. He's that bad. He barely gives you a once over and claims any ailment you have is a cold and sends you on your way. No bedside manner, no manner at all. read more

I just assigned myself to this doctor through my insurance. I wanted to get a check up for the first time with my PCP and the office lady who answered the phone was so rude! She did not even let me explain my situation, she rudely interrupted me while I was talking. It is sad that it is the doctor's name I am rating rather than their office customer service. If I could give negative stars to Dr. Szeto I would. She is a negligent physician. When visiting her for a severe fever, nausea and flu she injected me with a medication that SHE had written on my charts, at an earlier appointment, as something I was allergic to. Due to this negligence I ended up in the emergency room at 3am on a Saturday morning because neither she nor the doctor on call from her office answered repeated pages over a 2 hour period. She didn't show up until 6 hours later. And after being informed as to her initial mistake of administering a toxic drug, she neither admitted to it, nor apologized, nor offered to pay for any of the over $7000.00 in hospital bills resulting from her malpractice. Mistakes happen, but the LEAST a doctor could do is to take responsibility for their own mistakes. Szeto would not even admit provable negligence. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Szeto for many years. I was so happy when I first started seeing her in my early 20's. I felt like she listened but I left feeling really shattered after my last visit with her. Prior to my last appointment she tested me for polycystic ovarian markers. Everything came back normal. The last time I saw her was summer of 2015. I still have my notes that I took to my last appt. I had serious concerns regarding vaginal bleeding that lasted over a month. I shared I had heavy periods and extremely painful menstrual cycles. I told her I would take 6-8 ibuprofens in one sitting to help with my cramps. She told me to try aleve. I started crying because I had gained so much weight recently. I felt like she came down on me and told me I needed to commit to weight loss. She reminded me that she wakes up every morning at 5am or whatever time she does to work out and that it was possible. The last thing I told her was that I felt a bump inside of my vagina. I felt as if she didn't even listen and who knows if she marked it in her notes but they were definitely in mine and I made sure to write all my thoughts down to share with her so I wouldn't forget to cover all my basis during my visit. I was sincerely worried about my reproductive health. So it turns out that all the symptoms I mentioned to her were markers for polycystic ovarian syndrome. I sought a second opinion in 2016 who also tested me for pcos markers and again nothing. Again, I left feeling like I was crazy but there was pain and all these symptoms that no one had answers to. All of 2017 went by and I continued to feel these symptoms. I started to ignore my symptoms and decided I was weak for not being able to take the pain I experienced during my menses. After all, two medical doctors said I was fine. Meanwhile it had now been 2 years that my husband and I had been trying to conceive and nothing. I was nearing the end of 2017 and felt that this was no longer normal. Perhaps these doctors were wrong. I decided the best thing to do was to find an OB-GYN who is a direct specialist with updated equipment in his office and sure enough everything came to light. Two things came up that my OB-GYN mentioned 1) Blood tests are not the only way to check for pcos markers 2) Why didn't anyone do a vaginal ultrasound? I now have an ovarian cyst the size of a basketball. I will most likely lose my right ovary and as of now, I have no idea how much of my reproductive system will have survived this enormous cyst consuming my uterus. I had to go through absolute hell since January because my ca-125 (ovarian cancer blood test) were high. Although, there are many things that can cause a high ca-125, I was still referred to an oncologist as a precaution. I'm 32 years old and was mentally preparing myself and family for cancer. It is awful to have to call city of hope, to have to tell your family what you might have. I didn't know what to expect. Now I don't even know if I'll be able to have kids because my primary doctor (Szeto) and my second opinion doctor didn't do enough. For two years, I've used at home fertility and pregnancy tests in the hopes that I would be pregnant and nothing. Don't let this be your daughter, your wife or you. Don't bother with doctor Szeto. I'm devastated by her lack of action. What if it would have been cancer? What if I can't be a mom because my reproductive system is so damaged? And the icing on the cake is that I might have endometriosis on top of all of this. Thanks for nothing Dr.Szeto. read more

I called Dr. Szeto Office to make appt. I have to agree with the rest of the reviews where the receptionist was really rude and assuming and completely apathetic to my situation. I called for a check up and the reason of abnormal bleeding? The receptionist stated Dr. Szeto doesn't have any availability till November of which is typical she is always booked. No problem I replied is it possible for me to go with another OBGYN in office because this is really concerning? The receptionist stated. " oh no you can't be jumping around from Doctor to Doctor?" I'm like WTF in my head? I didn't know she was so possessive of the Dr and her patients! ? I replied that's none of your business if I want to make an appointment with whomever I want where available... I can do so? I mean really what's it to her? At any rate she gave me back talk and didn't ask or care about my well being only that..." I can't be jumping around from Doctor to Doctor..." I am so over this office.
