They were assigned to me by my HMO, and their website says "Taking new patients." However, when I tried to schedule an appointment, the nearest time I was offered is 59 days from now. When I pointed out that this was a long wait for someone with issues he wants looked at, the person on the phone said they were "Focusing on their existing patients." So my question is: which one is it? Taking new patients (in a way that isn't a prohibitive delay) or not? I spoke to Aetna about how to get service, and the person on the phone said she was disappointed that so many providers were claiming to accept new patients but often not making many appointments available for new patients. Again, they were assigned me as a patient, but talk to me like I'm a second class citizen. read more

I was a satisfied patient at this business. I say business because the staff is more concerned with collecting a no show fee, before the doctor would honor a FaceTime appointment to refill a much needed medication. In December of last year , I was unwell with a fever and needed to cancel. I did my due diligence by calling well within the timeframe for cancelling The answering service refused to take that message and when I called the day of said appointment , the office was closed For their 2 hour lunch break. I realize that the good doctor is merely an employee and puppet of the insurance company , and I guess he needed the no show fee more than me , the patient. I moved back to my hometown after going to college. I was excited to start a new chapter with Dr. Varu. Understandably, it was hard to get an appointment during the pandemic. It discouraged me from getting more care from him. However, we have done physicals and some check ins as well as vaccines together. However, I always felt like getting medications or appointments continued to be hard. This year I have gone for my physical, blood tests, and referrals. I NEVER received a call or message about my concerning results. I have been so busy to be more persistent with their lack of attention. I thought my final straw with this office was last week when I was trying to get a medication to continue a treatment plan I have had for years prior to seeing him (since high school). A month before, I was told the delay was due to someone in the office not getting back to CVS. They said they would fax or call CVS. CVS would call them and they would ignore them and also ignore me. I have literally had the front desk tell me they would wait for me to call back after speaking with CVS or that they'd call me back before EOD and then they put the closed for the day auto response before closing time. Luckily, my old doctor was able to renew the prescription temporarily. Last week, I finally needed the refill and also had the time to be persistent with the office. They finally send me into the same wild goose chase, but then the receptionist finally admitted that they never did anything to help me get the prescription and that Dr. Varu actually denies me having any condition and that he has no record of it. I also distinctly remember paying my old doctors to send records to his office and I signed papers. If he for some reason did not receive the records, there is still no excuse for negligence because there are blood tests and visit reasons to back things up. I have never given a doctor a one star, and I have seen many throughout my lifetime. This one star review is for his lack of attention and his office's overall condescending attitude towards patient' knowledge of their OWN health history. After telling his receptionist that I would be my changing primary physician last week, I started to try to access my own Quest and Radnet accounts that were set up way before he was ever my doctor. I was able to connect all results to my old accounts. Out of all my results, MY ULTRASOUND WAS SIGNIFICANTLY ABNORMAL. I didn't receive a call. If this ends up being as serious as it might be, I can never forgive this office for time wasted and for always being told that I don't have anything. They have done fraud on numerous occassions and visits. Their billing records, or lackthereof, are all inaccurate and kept hidden. I have proof of making payments, only to be sent the same exact invoice again. Very unethical. read more

Dr. Varu is the best doctor I've ever had (and I'm no spring chicken). He is kind, personable, and very knowledgeable. Being as his specialty is internal medicine, he would be the logical choice to help you navigate your wellness journey. Being tech savvy is a definite plus, so his interaction with your pharmacy and insurance plan is a breeze. His home base hospital is St. Joe's in Burbank, which is also convenient. His demeanor is patient and jovial, and definitely all business. He has the ability to make you feel relaxed if you're worried about something, but make no mistake about it, he will tell it like it is. He's compassionate and has a soft spot for his geriatric patients. He's open about some holistic practices (and I will never stop pushing him in that direction), but he's basically a traditionalist. I don't recommend this office if you're healthy and just looking to establish care for routine exams because you'll be stuck with a medical bill for nothing. I booked an appointment last month asking for a physical as a new patient and was not told until after my appointment was over that they never book "new patient physicals" only office visits, which is not covered as routine care by most insurance plans. When I called the billing company I found out the doctor had billed for issues we never discussed during the appointment/were of concern, such as having asthma 20 years ago and having acne( my mask was covering my face and the only acne I have, how did the doctor see this if I never took off my mask or mentioned it?). I came for a physical and instead got loaded with a medical bill of $200+ for issues we never discussed. I'm a healthcare provider myself and I know you can bill for "new patient physicals" so your healthy patients don't get charged unnecessarily but this office instead chooses to bill healthy patients because they can't get their extra money otherwise, which is borderline medical fraud. A lot of their patients are on medicaid/medical so they are likely trying to strip money left and right where they can, which is incredibly unethical. Dr. Varu has been my dude for a long time now (15 years?). I've grown very close to him and his staff. Ada and Tina are the best at what they do. And the doc is one of the rare ones that really actually cares. He's also super smart and will thoughtfully answer any and all questions. I always get a reminder call for appointments and never have trouble booking something, if I really need to get in. Oh, he's also thoroughly in the 21st century, with computers and diagnostics and seamless prescription filling, etc. If you're in the area, I would seriously suggest setting up an appointment. Dr Varu truly is the best, he always spends as much time as needed to meet with you and takes time to listen and then to explain the care plan. I always feel he has my health and well being as his main concern, he is truly genuine, and just a very nice guy. I've been able to get appointments in a very timely manner, and the fact that he does his own bloodwork in house is extremely convenient, you don't need to run to a lab and wait an hour or more for blood draw. My wife and I love Dr. Varu. Just left his office and got the best care as usual. The front office gals were very nice. Aida is always so pleasant and the other woman (I keep forgetting to ask her name) always makes me laugh. She has a way to use the needle and not make it hurt. Back to Dr. Varu...this dude is on the cutting edge. He's up on all the latest studies which I appreciate. He always takes his time, even for simple rechecks like today. I miss Dr. Paresh. I moved recently and tried to find another doctor, but it just reminded me of how great he is. He's very nice and caring, and most of his advice and treatments have proven effective. I had painful acid reflux for months, and the combination of prescription and advice he gave me got rid of it completely. He did the same for a cough that lasted weeks. The office is also well managed. I rarely had to wait more than 15-20 minutes to see the doctor. And the offices are very attractive and modern. The last time I made an appointment, the wait time for the next available appointment was about a week (although they have taken me within a day or so when more urgent, but the wait room time is a bit longer in those cases). While Dr. Paresh seems knowledgeable and safe, having to deal with his front desk and getting a timely appointment is a nightmare. If there's any immediate need to see the Dr., they shuffle you off to urgent care. Also forget about a timely response to any pharmacy requests for renewals or clarifications. Unfortunately I was unable to actually meet with Dr. Paresh, since dealing with his front desk was absolutely frustrating. I tried calling multiple times at various times of the day and left messages to call back so I can book an appointment with no response. There were only two times his staff did pick up - it was about 4:20 when they told me, "the office is closed at 5pm. Please call back later." My first thought was, "It's not 5pm yet. Also, why are you picking up the phone and talking to me to tell me to call back when they are open?" The second time they picked up, I was actually able to talk with someone to book an appointment. Unfortunately, it was several weeks later than my initial contact, and I was not able to actually book him at a time that worked for me. Started going to Dr. Varu this year as my primary doctor. He came highly recommended by a friend. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the care he provides. He really takes time to know you and your medical history and ways to help keep you on a healthy path. He runs test and takes note of family history and really keeps track of your health. This place is a complete joke. I regret to say that I did not even have the chance to meet with Dr. Varu because of the incompetent staff he has hired at the front desk. I called the office to schedule a first time client appointment and the front desk was able to give me an appointment 2 months out. Well, two months passed and they called me to let me know the Dr was sick and could not come in. They asked if they can reschedule the appointment which i was completely fine with despite the fact that I had taken the day off work and had scheduled the appointment two months out. But i understand that things happen and if the Doctor is sick, then there is nothing I would be able to do besides accept the fact. The lady went ahead and advised she will give me a call when they have an open appointment after she checks the schedule. one day passes, two days pass, then a few days and no call. What kind of business are you running when you cant even keep your word. If you tell a patient you will call them back to book an appointment, do just that. Otherwise don't commit to it. At first when i read all the positive reviews I was extremely excited about seeing this doctor, not to mention how conveniently close the location was for. I came across two bad reviews and thought, hmmm maybe they just had a bad experience, and didn't give it much thought because you always have a few one offs. Those girls were spot on with their reviews. The staff at this place are incompetent losers who do not have Dr. Varu's best interested or his patients. Sorry to say but they should be replaced with employees who care and are willing to keep their word. This is not how you run a business. Dr. Varu has been my primary care doctor for several years. He is well beyond a primary care doctor as he is extremely knowledgable about all aspects of medicine and science. I always review the information I receive from my neurologist, and value Dr. Varu's input on my autoimmune/neurological disease. My yearly physical with Dr. Varu is extremely thorough. I never feel rushed and he always has time to answer all of my questions. His staff and nurses are very courteous, and I'm always seen at my appointment time - no waiting around for 30 minutes in the waiting room. He and his staff always call me immediately to discuss any report(s) they get back from my test results. The office also digitally communicates and reviews any important chart items from my other doctors. Truly a great office, staff, and a very special doctor. Sadly I ended up having to leave this doctor when I wouldn't comply with taking anti-depressants. He was certain I needed them and misdiagnosed me. After going though a battery of tests, we confirmed that my condition was terrible food allergies and not panic attacks as he suggested. I prefer a more natural approach, so this doctor did not fit because they like to push any drugs they can especially with the kick back they receive for the anti-depressants and the patients they get hooked on them.
