Negative if I could. Can you believe 4.95$ a skewer? Fine, if it was good but it was sooooooo dry, and lacked flavor. It was smothered with some sort of Mae ploy sauce and that made it worse. The skewers were so awful I would never give anything else here a chance. They leave it under the heat lamp so long it makes it just incredibly dry and bad tasting and then to have the nerve to charge 5$ a stick. Just horrendous! I also got chicken skins. It tastes like chicharon but burnt. It came with the worse sauce I've ever had in my life. It smelled like straight vinegar and garlic bc it WAS STRAIGHT vinegar. Its rancid, outrageously smelly, and made me spit it out right away. The chicken skins were so bad I gave it to my dogs. 1/2 lb for 10$. At least my big dogs loved it and someone is happy. I almost want to make skewers and fried chicken skins, bring it back and show them what real food tastes like. Im repulsed, shocked at the outrageous price, and disgusted by this food. I feel a bit DISCOURAGED to come here because I'm not sure if I'm going to feel like a burden for ordering food as a customer or not. I haven't been here in a while so maybe service has changed... The SKEWERS always get my attention every time I shop here at Island Pacific Market. By the way, PHILHOUSE is located inside the super market... Another item that got my attention was the CHICKEN SKIN! It has so much COLLAGEN but, fat at the same time so it's a balance of good and bad. I would take it any ways and go work out... The menu is extensive! What to pick? The service was friendly and we received the food rather quickly. We both ordered Pancit Bihon and Chicken Adobo but I added 2 BBQ Chicken Skewers. Fortunately, a couple of tables became available. The food was great and reminded me of my mom's cooking and made me really miss her since she passed in March. It evoked a lot of happy memories of my childhood growing up as a Navy brat. We both enjoyed our meals but could not finish because the portions were generous. Yay! I love leftovers! Solid Filipino food and great customer service. The dishes we had were half noodles and rice, pork bbq stick, chicken adobo, crispy lechon and shanghai lumpia. Delicious and fresh except for the lechon it was cold so it wasn't that great. Next time we'll ask if the lechon could be rechrisped if that's possible. This "turo turo" aka cafeteria style restaurant is located inside Island Pacific Market. This is probably one of the most organized, fully stocked, cleanest Filipino spots I've been to. There's so many dishes to pick from and all the chafing dishes were full. We picked a lot of items, like adobo, sinigang, a whole fish, kare kare, dinuguan, lechon, mongo, afritada and rice. Everything tasted pretty good, no complaints. I was impressed with the whole fish because it was already cut in half and was prepared with pieces of fish ready to eat inside. Service was good too while checking out. Canned sodas for drinks. Since it's inside the market, there's only a few tables but we happened to snagged one. The market feels new! read more

I'm giving this very casual full service buffet restaurant (aka "point-point" restaurant) 5 stars for their excellent daily grilled fish, which I order at least twice a week! Yummy AND healthy!!! If you're a seafood lover or pescatarian and enjoy bold, full-flavored seafood (fishy fish, not the bland heavily breaded kind) then I highly recommend trying PhilHouse, which is inside the Pacific Island Filipino Asian grocery store. They have a wide selection of seafood, including grilled (calamari, pompano fish, mackerel, tilapia, and milkfish/bangus), breaded and fried head-on shrimp (the head gives it the super shrimpy flavor), various fish stew, and fried fish. Dishes i recommend: 1. Grilled pompano--the meat is mild and has few large bones. Easy to eat, if you don't mind using your hands. The seasoning is subtle but tasty (freshly ground black pepper and other spices--garlic maybe?) 2. Grilled Mackerel--the meat has a bolder smoky flavor. Excellent when you squeeze lemon on it or use the dipping sauce provided. There are tiny bones that need to be carefully picked out. (I have a preference for the pompano, so i don't order this as much). 3. Ginataang Langka -- unripened jackfruit cooked in coconut milk seasoned with shrimp fry and ginger. Unripened jackfruit, when cooked, has a meaty texture similar to pork. This is a wonderful meal for pescatarians who miss meat. One of my favorite Filipino pescatarian dishes. 4. Sinigang Pompano- pompano stew flavored with sour/tangy tamarind and veggies. 5. BBQ chicken skewers (2 skewers per order) 6. Chicken Adobo--well seasoned and flavorful 7. Diningding--fish stew seasoned with shrimp fry and ginger. I think they use tilapia for this dish? This is very hard to find at Filipino restaurants, as it is a more complicated to make and made with a variety of exotic veggies (moringa leaves, bitter melon, okra, etc). You need to be very adventurous if you're not familiar with shrimp fry and bitter melon. 8. Ginisang Sayote -- Chayote squash sauteed with garlic, onions, tomatoes, oyster sauce (i think? some recipes call for fish sauce), and shrimp. They don't make this often, so i will learn how to cook it myself, lol. It's so tasty and super healthy!!! 9. The Beef Tapa-- sweetened fried beef strips is okay. 10. Bistek--beef strips cooked with lemon and onions is okay Portions are huge and enough for sharing. They have a ton of pork options (which I don't eat so I can't comment on them) and a few chicken and beef selection. A combo with a whole fish + classic entree is only $15.99 before taxes. We are regulars of PhilHouse. They have better selections and better food than Seafood City. Their service quality is also much better than Seafood City. PhilHouse is always busy especially during lunch, dinner, and weekends. We always regard PhilHouse as 5-star foodstop. However, I am removing 1-star today because of yesterday's (Filipino) spaghetti. I have always ordered their spaghetti and never had a problem. Yesterday though - the spaghetti smelled and tasted very different. I have digestive issues, with extreme sensitivity to spoiling food so I returned the spaghetti to the cashier, warning them to stop serving the spaghetti (at this time, my stomach was already churning - I tasted and ingested three strands of the pasta). The server who became a friend over the years came up and said the spaghetti just came out of the kitchen, so it's impossible for it to be spoiled. My husband asked when it came out of the kitchen, she said it's 12noon. We looked at the time (it's 1:34pm). The server friend insisted there's nothing wrong with the spaghetti, maybe it's just my palate or my "nose" that's wrong. At this point, I was getting pretty upset and frustrated, so I dropped the useless "argument" - hoping NO ONE will get sick, as I was already feeling sick. I am removing 1-star only for the spaghetti, and the isolated defensive posture I received from the server. A decent spot for Filipino food and the 3.5 stars average rating is accurate. Nonetheless, I appreciate that this location exists. Bisteak tagalog (beef and onions): a bit greasy, but the jus has an essence of calamansi (citrus) combined with the soy sauce and garlic that eccentuates the tender beef and onions... 8/10. Tokwa't baboy (tofu & pork belly): a different version, as this is more of a stew; however it's flavorous, and the pork is tender. The tofu being soft and chewy works; as it traditionally is crispy, 8/10. Pancit bihon: nice subtle flavors, and I've got to recognize that the noodles aren't dry... 7.5/10. Kare-kare (beef in peanut sauce): somewhat thin sauce, but still captures the peanut flavor that engulfs the soft beef.. 7 5/10. Tapsilog (steak & eggs with garlic fried rice): sweet tender beef and garlic lover's fave rice... 7.5/10. Lumpia and bbq chicken/pork on the stick: standard flavored... 7/10. Sisig: is a fail. This dish has plenty of bell peppers, which overpowers the pork belly. Also, the pork belly is mostly composed of fat. I'd skip this... 5/10.
