You walk up to Phil's and it's an absolutely stunning little eatery on Thousand Oaks Blvd. Their dining room is giving upscale, clean, a little Sinatra vibes. Black and white decor, wine glasses, soft music. I was like okay, this is going to be a nice meal, pinky up. The loveliest staff Caroline informs me that in the back of the restaurant down a hallway is their bar and country karaoke night. Imagine my delight when as I walked back, the entire ambiance changed - the five star dining room slowly faded into a bright red accented bar with signage everywhere, karaoke blasting and a lot of really fun looking people hanging out. Will need to come back for a karaoke night. Here is what I loved at Phil's: SWEET CAROLINE: This passionfruit and vanilla forward martini was named after our favorite staff member Caroline. A sip of this cocktail will definitely have you singing like Neil Diamond. The smoke bubble topper made the drink even more fun. PAPPARDELLE AND SAUSAGE PASTA: 10/10 Hot italian sausage, tomatoes, a cream sauce with basil and parmesan cheese, this dish blew me away. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was super rich and creamy. A lovely pasta and a dish I'd highly recommend. Ending on my final positive note the service was absolutely impeccable here! Caroline was beyond lovely and as newbies dining here she made us feel right at home, like a regular customer. She was so kind and attentive from start to finish. Caroline gave us the best recommendations and clearly is passionate about the business and her patrons. Every restaurant needs a Caroline, because people like her + fun cocktails + delicious bites will definitely have me coming back.

What a great experience for our first time at Phil's! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with big smiles by everyone including Phil himself. We started with drinks and appetizers: meatballs, a pretzel, tuna tartare, and sliders. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. My personal favorite was the meatballs the sauce was unreal and fully approved by an Italian himself. We loved them so much that we ordered a second round. We then split the beef stroganoff, which was amazing, and finished with the apple caramel cobbler. The dessert didn't stand a chance, highly recommend!! It was everything we could have asked for and more. Not only was the food fantastic, but the service was outstanding. We laughed the entire time. Our server, Z, truly felt like a friend by the end of the night, and the gentleman running our food from the Midwest--whose name we unfortunately didn't catch was also wonderful and added to the great experience. We will absolutely be back! Thank you Phil for a great first time!!! - Ashley and Paul Sinacori

5/5 So Good I Went Back the Next Day! I almost never leave reviews, but this place absolutely earned it. From the moment I walked in, the warm, cozy atmosphere and friendly staff as well as the owner Phil made me feel right at home. The menu is everything you want from traditional comfort food--creative, hearty, and done right. On my first visit, I had the short rib stuffed raviolis with creamy vodka sauce. So delicious I asked for some bread to use on the leftover sauce. I came back the very next day (yes, it's that good) and tried their classic prime rib French dip and fries. Hands down one of the best french dips I've had anywhere--juicy and flavorful. The fries were golden, crisp, and delicious. Also don't skip dessert, I tried the peanut butter tart and apple caramel cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream, both were delicious. Service was just as excellent from Mark on both nights. He was attentive without being overbearing, and you can tell everyone there genuinely cares about making sure you leave happy (and full). Both Mark and the owner Phil made sure we had everything we needed and/or wanted at all times. If you're craving honest, old-school cooking done with real care and flavor, this spot deserves a place at the top of your list. I'm already planning my next visit.

Phil's is so cute and quaint inside. It's casual, but yet romantic enough for a nice couple's night out. The restaurant is very warm and welcoming, and is also suitable for a night out with friends or co-workers. The menu offers a variety to suit different palettes. The prices are not over the top, but they are not the cheapest, either. I loved how the presentation of all the dishes ordered were clean, neat, and very presentable. Now for the food: **The Crispy Brussel Sprouts: This appetizer, topped with cabbage, shaved parmesan cheese, sliced almonds, onions and balsamic, is so amazing and very flavorful. This is a must try! **Traditional Style Hot Wings: I was a bit disappointed because it lacked the spicy hot kick I was expecting. The side of jalapeños made up for the kick, though. **Beef Stroganoff: I loved how the beef was very tender and pasta was cooked to perfection. I just wish it had more sauce because the dish started to dry out as the pasta absorbed most of the sauce. **Spaghetti and Meatballs: 2 large meatballs were very good and very tender. They were tossed with pasta and a nice marinara sauce. My only complaint is the meatballs had too much cracked pepper. Every bite had that peppery kick. **Homemade Meatloaf: The mashed potatoes were very creamy and delicious. Not dry at all. The crispy onions on top added a nice flavor. The meatloaf was good, however, this also had too much cracked pepper with every bite. If it didn't have so much pepper, I would have enjoyed it more! Aside from my dislike of pepper, I would come back to try other items, especially the desserts. The charming atmosphere is enough to bring me back. Hopefully the other dishes won't have too much pepper!! It would also be nice to see a shrimp dish on the menu.

Phil's in Thousand Oaks delivers on flavor with a few ups and downs. We ordered the schnitzel salad, southern fried chicken sandwich, and margherita flatbread--each dish came out fresh, savory, and satisfying. The portion sizes felt just right, and the food quality really stood out. The atmosphere is bright and minimalistic up front, creating a clean, modern vibe. In contrast, the back bar area feels more intimate and moody--perfect for winding down during their daily happy hour from 3-6pm, even on Fridays, which is a definite plus. One miss was the margarita I ordered--it leaned far too sweet and had an odd aftertaste that reminded me of Splenda. Service was quick and efficient, though not overly warm or inviting. Overall, despite the cocktail hiccup, I'd go back--especially to catch that happy hour in the cozy bar area.

My friends and I went out for drinks, and my friend said this place was good, so we had their happy hour. If I remember correctly, I tried restaurants at this location quite a while ago, and this was my first time at Phil's. When I first entered the store through the door along the street, I was surprised to see no one there, but when I went inside, I was glad there were tables, a few customers, and my friends. Later, I should have entered from the door closer to the parking lot. I only planned on drinking a little alcohol since I had to drive, but I ordered a Red Sangria from the happy hour menu. Unfortunately, I had eaten a late lunch before coming and wasn't hungry, so I ordered The Wedge salad. The salad was a little boring(sorry), but my friend let me try her meatballs, which was good. It was a bit annoying having to come to take my order multiple times, but overall, the service was not bad.

Happy Hour review only: My friend has been talking about going to Phil's for happy hour for awhile! And finally the opportunity presented itself where we all could get together for a bit of happiness at happy hour! The bar is located in the back of the restaurant: you can enter from the front thru the restaurant or thru the back by their parking lot! Yes free parking. The bar has seating at the bar, and a few tables. Including booths great for small groups. Happy hour consist of both drinks and food. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. I had a lemon drop and it was spot on. With my drinks, I had meatballs which were pretty good with too much sauce as the waiter said! Many thanks to the wait staff, twin brothers, for the great service! I look forward to coming back!

Phil'er up! A joyous array of foods for every palate in our party of 7. The service was outstanding and attentive to detail...all with a sparkling smile from the bright-eyed waitress. If the axiom is true about every actor in L.A. starts as a good waiter/waitress, this young lady is Hollywood-bound. Sign her up. This menu is robust. It sports a wide variety - order a few things to split so you can sample around. We started with the crunchy good, well-seasoned CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS. (4.5) Wifey & I dined lite: TUNA TARTARE - fresh! (4) LITTLE HERMAN'S HAMBURGERS - with cheddah!...and grilled onions! (5) There was GRILLED SALMON (4), THE CUBANO (4.5) and BRANZINO FILET for the star of our party - our 91 year old stepmother - that was fine. (3.5) All in all, a great night.

The vibe is industrial and low-lit, like the kind of bar where the walls have stories but won't snitch. Small space, metal-and-concrete aesthetic, but somehow still warm and cozy. Perfect for a date night or a "let me mentally unpack my life over cocktails" hang with my best friend. What keeps me coming back? The bartenders actually listen. I can walk up and give the vaguest description -- "classic but not sweet, strong but not too whiskey-forward, smooth but still gives main character energy" -- and they'll just... create it. They've made me drinks that aren't even on the menu -- Army Navy, Aviation, etc. -- and every single one was spot on. They always manage to find the right drink for me, which is honestly a skill more people should have. The servers are genuinely nice, the liquor selection is solid, and the energy is chill without being pretentious. I've also heard there's a speakeasy hidden in here somewhere, and trust me, one day I'll find it like I'm unlocking a side quest. Definitely one of my favorite bars in Thousand Oaks -- industrial vibes, great people, and bartenders who match drinks to my personality better than most men can.

Immediately we noticed that the…read moreinside of the restaurant was nicely decorated and well lit, an appropriate space for a lovely dinner, or so we thought. At the time the dining room was sparsely populated, only a few other tables were seated. We were seated quickly by the hostess and ordered within a few minutes of sitting down; my wife ordered the seafood pasta I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and the tomato burrata salad as an appetizer. After about 20 minutes the waitress returned to let us know that they were out of the pasta, so my wife asked for the risotto instead. The salad arrived quickly, however my wife noted that it was missing grilled peaches that were listed in the menu description, a disappointment. The salad itself was balsamic dressed cherry tomatoes with a single piece of burrata on top. Another 40 minutes later our entrees finally arrived. Much to my dismay my dish lacked any appreciable character; it was as if they had cooked six month old frozen pasta and thrown up a brown sauce with fried sage on top. My wife's risotto was mostly cheese but was also similarly devoid of other flavors. Now to be fair to the folks here, I did mention to the waitstaff that the flavors in the food were off and they did reduce the bill. They were also apologetic about the wait we faced. Nevertheless, restaurants have three things they need to do well in order to be successful: food, service and ambience. Perhaps if they improved the quality of the food and the time to service more people would come. Needless to say, but I won't be returning.

I'd been wanting to go back and take Dear Hubby to enjoy this very special re-imagining of the previous space, which had been an Irish pub incarnation. When our sister-in-law and two nieces were in town, the five of us were able to spend a quick evening together at Selvin's. We had been working on a project at our house, and by the time we got finished and ready to go out there wasn't a lot of time left as we went on a weeknight and they close at 9:00. I'm surprised that having a full bar, and being attached to a hotel property, that they would hang it up so early - even 9:30 or 10:00 would make more sense. It's such a charming place; seems a shame to have to call it a night so early. The ambiance is absolutely divine, especially out here in suburbia. It's very innovative in its layout. The lighting was carefully planned and is very effective in creating a special mood. And, what can be said about the wall of roses? It's tailor-made for snapping fun photos, that's for sure. The chef is sending out creative and Dee-Licious dishes from the kitchen. Yes, I know how to spell delicious, but it is worth adding the accented flair to stating the fact that this is a cut above many other dining establishments in the Conejo Valley. Dear Hubby and I shared Pappardelle Pasta and a Tuna Tartare appetizer. Both were excellent. One of our nieces ordered the taco platter. Wait till you see the photo. The only thing that was disappointing, menu-wise, was that bread wasn't included, so we ordered some as a side. Two little slices. I've forgotten the price, but I recall that it turned into sticker shock when we saw what was served. I'm tickled that they offer a nice array of zero proof cocktail options. They aren't inexpensive - apparently spirits without alcohol aren't any less (or maybe only slightly less?) than the full-spirited options. Still, it's nice to have the option. Our out of town family members LOVED Selvin's; it was a big hit with all of us. As an added bonus, there was a guitarist playing beautiful acoustic music when we arrived and were seated in the lounge area. Major extra credit!
