Phanh Ky is an Asian Noodle House located in the new shopping center known as Katy Asian Town. This shopping center is literally full of everything Asian food/drink related. After taking a quick scan around between the numerous food options, we stumbled upon Phanh Ky. Phanh Ky has an extremely small menu, with just a handful of appetizers and we were informed that all the entrees were essentially the same. They all have the same filling/toppings, the only thing you need to choose is if you want egg noodles, rice noodles, or a combination. That and if you want your bowl to be served as a soup, or dry which comes with this special sauce and broth in a separate bowl on the side. We came as a party of 7 people and each tried a slightly different combination, but everything was just ok. None of us were big fans of the food, but no one hated it either. This place definitely has a lot of fans because the restaurant got crowded as it got closer towards dinner time. I heard that their original location is in Bellaire, but personally I don't think we would come back again. The food here is really good, just about everything you order. They're very consistent with their recipes and the price is affordable - gets you full too. CustOmer service is where they lack - there will be no water refills and there will be no checking up on you after the food has been dropped off. So make sure you know everything you need when ordering or by the time the food comes out. Located in the Katy Asia town plaza, it's a shorter drive for me than going to the one in Bellaire. Personally I like the food here more. They specialize in Hu Tieu, which is a vietnamese soup make of pork broth. You have the option of what noodles you want (ex: clear, wide, regular, rice or egg noodles) and the option if you want it as a noodle soup or dry. The dry has sauce that's gravy-like and comes with a small bowl of broth on the side. I do like the dry combo with wide rice and egg noodles. I get the fried chinese doughnut on the side to go with it. My only complaint was the vietnamese coffee. I was told that it was freshly made, and I expected that it would come out on one of those slow-drip brewers like it usually does at viet restaurants, but it was taken out already made in a small cup and you can tell it has been microwaved. There was a film on top of the coffee that usually happens when it's been sitting around and then microwaved. On top of that, it was sooo sweet. We had to ask for black coffee to be added, but it still wasn't enough. All in all, good food and service but avoid the coffee!! read more

However, this was my first time visiting their Katy location. This location's space is comparable to the Bellaire location, if not slightly larger. When I visited on a weekday morning with my family, there was only one other table of customers, so we were quickly seated. Although the broth used for their Hu Tieu is the same regardless of what you order, you have the option of soft rice noodles, clear rice noodles, thin egg noodles, thick egg noodles, or a combination of two out of the 4 noodle options. You can also get your noodles with soup or dried (soup on the side). I got my normal order of clear rice noodles in their medium sized bowl, which comes with meat and seafood topping. The portion size for a medium is perfect for me, and the broth was perfectly seasoned, so I was able to finish all of it. Service is friendly and the place is clean. We ordered the DRIED RICE NOODLE SOFT & EGG NOODLE THICK. The noodles can be dry and the sauce too thick, but the flavors are not bad. The second time I came and ordered the same thing and asked for extra sauce and it improved the dish, but the noodles were still too dry and clumped altogether. Great place for a hot bowl of soup! I love Hu Tieu and this place does not disappoint. The menu was a little confusing, but our server came over and explained the layout of the menu and how to order. It is a small establishment so it can get a bit packed if you come during a popular time like weekend lunch time. They turnover tables pretty quickly though. Food came out pretty quickly and it was really good! Portions are sizable. Price is a bit high for Vietnamese food, but since it's in the Katy area, it seems about right. SO far there is plenty of parking. You don't have to fight for parking which is very nice, and no Bellaire traffic which is also nice. I ordered the dry version of the noodle. The noodle is loaded with pork liver and beef and spices and vegetables. The spices cilantro combo is very traditional southeast Asian cooking. This is close to Vietnamese street food as you can get. As soon as you walk in, you know you are going to have to wait. I came here around noon on a Sunday, you need to write your name down on a list before you are seated. Very limited seating, and very tight space. Although it was very busy, they were able to get people in and out within 10-25 minutes. Food comes out fast and there is so much staff that you can get whatever you need within minutes. I got the S1 dry and my boyfriend got the S1 soup. The S1 us basically vermicelli noodles and thin egg noodles with minced pork, chicken, pork, shrimp, and soup on the side or in the same bowl. The dry version was much more flavorful. I ended up getting extra sauce because that sauce was delicious. The sauce was like a sweet and sour but with a darker brown color. It had it's unique taste, kinda like hoison? Hard to explain. The crispy mini shrimp and dried onions added texture and extra saltiness that made the dish so wonderful. The soup version was good, but needed more flavor. I ended up adding jalepenos and Chile oil. Very hearty but I wouldn't get this again unless it was dry. The pork ribs were cooked perfectly. They were tender and flavorful. Definitely a great place to try. With these 2 dishes and a Vietnamese iced coffee, my total ended up being $25 without top. This is a bit on the pricier side compared to Chinatown but the location is the reason why. Great service from entrance to exit. Get the dry dish!!! Definitely worth while. read more

The dish comes with two different types of noodles, pork, and shrimp (and liver slices as well) and a side of soup. What really makes the dish is the sweet sauce that you mix all the contents with and slurp the soup on the side. I also recommend ordering the Chinese fried breadsticks that come with a side of condensed milk to dip them into. You can save the breadsticks to dip into your soup or dip into the condensed milk as a sweet dessert. Each dish is reasonably priced and the portions are large so you really get your money's worth.
