My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

I had to text and message him a few times before getting a response and actually thought he forgot about the job because I didn't hear back from him, but he was polite and apologized for the delay. This wasn't a big project, just repaving our cracked driveway but he, his son and crew did a great job and was so fast! They were prompt, very polite and cleaned up after themselves after each day. They explained what they were going to do that day and the next and how long I needed to keep clear before driving on it again. After hearing about our strict timeline he was able to swing by the very next morning to take a look at what we needed done. Out of all the places we contacted, Amosa responded to us the fastest with the most detailed estimate . Other companies took much longer to get back to us. We didn't have to wait an entire day or more for a response. His responsiveness and punctuality was only a few reasons why we chose to go with him. From the get go he went above and beyond to make sure we had what we wanted . We ended up having him do a top cast finishing with diamond cuts control joints . He arrived on time every single day, left the work area clean each day , and even finished ahead of schedule. The new floors look absolutely amazing . Oscar was very easy to work with as we described our needs and he came up with great designs that took very little adjustments to get exactly what we had envisioned. Oscar took us to several nurseries to select plants that would compliment the project. Victor took care of the demo and construction side of the project and was he amazing! The crew shows up on time and the site is thoroughly cleaned up each day. Communication was awesome, if we had any questions about products or how things were being laid out Victor answered them right away. As the project went along if Victor thought something might look better a certain way he would ask us what we thought before proceeding. He also created documents to submit to our HOA for approval, and he was able to make changes quickly when needed. Victor and the crew were on time, efficient, and timely with the work. It was greatly appreciated that everything was washed down and cleaned by the crew at the end of each day. They were also able to make quick adjustments when our neighbor had some concerns with the hedges we wanted to plant. The scope of the work included adding a concrete pad, extending our concrete patio, planting privacy hedges with drainage and auto watering system, installing artificial grass with paver walkways, and adding pebbles along the exterior wall of our house. Since we have a soft watering system, we also had them install a separate line from the main. Overall, Caliscapes OC was professional, friendly, and accommodating. We even had one of the hedge plants not doing well. We reached out to Caliscapes OC to advise us on how to revive it, and they said they would replace it. We had a good experience and would recommend!

For the 2nd visit in March 2026, unfortunately the company did not meet the same standard. We communicated via the same number, so they were aware of that we were interested in the same work as before last year (weed removing, trimming of tree shrub) This time, a different employee (H.H.), performed the work. He trimmed the trees and shrubs a bit more quickly than Francisco did, which was not an issue in itself. However, he didn't remove the overgrown roots, but rather just trimmed them, which caused the plants to grow back much faster than before. He also didn't apply any weed killer. After we paid via Zelle, we noticed that our 24-hr security sign had been snapped in half and left on the same spot it was planted. No shrubs were around that area. The employee didn't mention to us at all, but when we asked him what happened, he initially said he didn't know. Only after we saw pictures showing that the sign was intact, he apologized. Additionally, another blue security sign next to our AT&T fiber box was missing. The sign had been in place for months and was clearly visible from the driveway since the shrubs didn't fully cover it. The worker claimed he never saw it. We understand accidents can happen, but the lack of communication and transparency is unfortunate. We are likely moving on to another company.

Steve and his crew are regular people that treat others with kindness and respect not because they have to, but because that's who they are. They fixed a leaky pipe in my backyard without having to pull up my pavers and then they fixed a pipe in my front planter that solved low pressure on my drip lines. No fuss, no extra charges or unnecessary parts and labor. The Gonzalez team is always reliable, friendly and fast! They are quick to respond to inquiries and they will fix any thing requested the same or next day. Every step seemed to come with additional unexpected costs that were never originally discussed. Even worse, although we fully paid the contractor, he failed to pay multiple suppliers involved in the job -- including both the concrete supplier and the gate supplier leaving us dealing with payment disputes afterward. There poured and laid concrete broke after 5 days. The professionalism was extremely poor. Communication was inconsistent, timelines were not honored, and the overall quality of work was unacceptable. The concrete started developing cracks within the first week, which clearly reflects poor workmanship and lack of proper preparation and finishing. They also failed to properly wash and glaze/seal the concrete after completion. Overall, this was a very stressful and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable or honest work. Please do your research and stay away.
