Yesterday there was a socially-distanced line all the way down the entire aisle, and while there were several staff members there but only ONE was actually working, checking out customers, while ALL of the others were just chatting with each other! I've been going to this groomers for about a year and a half. I take my golden doodle to see Rachel every time. Recently we adopted a mini Aussidoodle and he's been groomed twice by Rachel. She does an amazing job and sends us off with a report card of how our pup did. I drop them both off in the morning and then pick them up about 5 hours later. My dogs smell amazing and feel soooo soft. read more

We just picked one of our hounds up and learned that they didn't feed her twice during her three day stay. We know because we gave them the exact amount of food for the visit and they gave us back a bag of breakfast food and a can for an evening feeding. When we asked, the counter guy looked at her chart and said, "looks like we missed a couple of feedings. Sorry..." Needless to say we won't be returning there, and highly recommend that anyone with boarding booked there reconsider. I've taken my dog, Charlie, here practically his whole life, 8 years! We use the Day Camp, Doggy hotel, Banfield Pet Hospital, and the Grooming saloon. I always feel Charlie is in good hands and is well taken care of. The staff at the hotel/day camp are very kind and you can tell they love all the animals. I highly recommend this location for all its services, thanks to PetSmart Sunset Valley for taking such good care of Charlie all these years! read more

This review is for New Hope Animal Rescue that operates the Adoption Center within Petsmart. TL;DR: New Hope Animal Rescue is an uncommunicative, unprofessional organization. On April 2 I applied to adopt a bonded pair of cats. I did not hear from New Hope Animal Rescue until April 27 despite an email follow up. On Thursday, April 27 I was contacted by their organization and was told I was #1 on their list of potential adopters. They had a few other interested parties, but felt I was the strongest applicant. One of those interested parties was one of their own volunteers, however this volunteer "has a very volatile on-again-off-again relationship with her boyfriend" (their words) and they were hesitant to adopt to her as the cats have shown an extreme dislike of men in their previous foster situations. As such, they were specifically looking for a single woman or a lesbian couple to adopt them. Also the cats had been at Petsmart since December and the volunteer hadn't committed. We arranged a time for me to come pick them up on Sunday, April 30. Over the next two days I bought all the items I would need to make the cats happy and healthy and set up my house for them. On Saturday, April 29, I received a text from their pick-up coordinator who told me they spoke to the volunteer after speaking to me on Thursday and decided to let the volunteer adopt them. So they waited two entire days after making that decision before informing me, allowing me to spend hundreds of dollars to purchase items and set up my house for this adoption. They offered me other cats, but the bridges were burned. The way this was handled was horribly unprofessional, not to mention they are putting the interest of their staff above the health and safety of their cats. In addition, the Petsmart employees I have spoken to agree that they don't like the organization very much and are even unresponsive and uncommunicative with them as well. So I'd recommend avoiding working with them. The good news is I am already meeting other cats through Austin Animal Center (they replied to be within 24hrs! so definitely recommend their organization or Austin Pets Alive instead of New Hope Animal Rescue). read more

I didn't used to be a PetSmart shopper, but I really like this location so I've started shopping here more often instead of at competitors. They always make a point to greet every customer as soon as they walk through the door. When staffing permits, employees will open more registers when they see the line starting to stack up. They're consistently well stocked. I also really like the groomer we go to, Maddie. She does a great job and is so sweet to my pup. Overall, pleasant experiences at this store. Meghan S in the grooming department is top-notch! I've brought my dog to other (and far more expensive) groomers in Austin and no one compares to Meghan's skill and how much she clearly cares for the animals she works with. My 12.5yr old golden has been going to Meghan for three years. She's quite anxious when she arrives, but Meghan always gets down with her to soothe her with pats and hugs. She is super scraggly when I leave her, and when I pick her up, she looks amazing! If you have a dog with hair like goldens, no one does a better job than Meghan S! read more

Zoey has learned so many things: sit, lay down, come, leave it, wait, etc. Hayden (trainer) does a great job of working with all the dogs and owners, and spends time with each individually. She is willing to spend time after class answering questions and providing additional tips. I really appreciated her spending extra time trying to socialize Zoey with other pups, which is what she struggles with the most. I highly recommend this class and trainer. read more

The bed cannot be salvaged, and two baths later his entire underside, legs, and paws are still stained yellow with a distinct urine smell. DO NOT USE THEIR GROOMING SERVICES!! We took our labradoodle to get groomed today and during pick up there was NO mention of any injuries our dog sustained during grooming. As you can see from the photo, our dog must have been nicked with the razor/blade, and ointment was applied under his front leg. While I appreciate them putting ointment on my dog after they caused this injury, they did not call or advise us of this! I believe they were hoping we would not find it. I'm sure these things happen, and we would have been completely understanding if WE HAD BEEN TOLD prior to leaving the store. To see this on our dog without knowing was a shock to say the least. I dropped my 9 month old 100 pound perfect shaped Rottweiler off at the Petsmart in Sunset Valley for a 10 day stay. On the day I picked her up she was noticeably thinner and appeared guarded. The Petsmart attendant said she did fine, what a lie. On the drive home my Rottweiler puked stomach acid, no food. When we got home I tried to feed her but she wouldn't eat. I then noticed a piece of hair missing from her top left eyelash as if the received a cut. I tried to feed my Rottweiler but each time she ate a little she would immediately throw up. I took her outside to use the restroom and her stool was loose and green. Later that date her stool was pure liquid and yellow. I took her to the vet. She was 9 pounds lighter. She lost 9 pounds in 10 days. My Rottweiler had an infection and was given antibiotics. The next few days were very difficult because my Rottweiler was still not able to eat. She used to devour her food and would eat all day if I let her. Now she doesn't want to eat anything. I have to soften her food and hand feed her otherwise she would not eat. I then noticed my Rottweiler grinding her teeth while sleeping. She's never done this before. She is also aggressive toward me, which she has never been before. I have spent several hundred dollars at the vet in the past week and need to take her to the vet again today, because she isn't doing so well. It appears Petsmart grossly neglected my pet and didn't give her the care or attention they promised. I paid over $600 dollars to Petsmart only for them to make my Rottweiler sick and weak. I should have known something was wrong when I asked to tour their boarding facility and was told no. Any other place provided a guided tour of their boarding facility and explained exactly what they do, where they kennel their pets, and where they are let out to play. Be careful boarding your loved one at Petsmart, they did not take care of my pet and did not notice she wasn't eating or lost so much weight. I am angered by the health of my pet and her appearance after picking her up. Now I am faced with several vet visits to find out what is wrong with her and try to get her back to health, not to mention the hundreds of dollars I am now spending at the vet's office. read more

I live right down the street from this store, and since I have a few animals I'm in here pretty frequently. I LOVE that there's a pet store, a groomer, training, and a vet all under one roof. This store is well-stocked and they're rarely out of anything I need. Their prices are pretty good, and they're generally cheaper than the Petco next door. I took my husky here for the beginner training class, and the instructor- I think her name was Sarah- was really great. Huskies are notoriously difficult to train, and she was really patient with him. I'm pleased with the results and hope to go back for the intermediate training at some point. The Petshotel is great- I've left my dog here for Doggie Day Care quite a few times, and for overnight care occasionally as well. He loves going to Doggie Day, and usually tries to return to his sled-dog roots and pull me all the way from my car to the Petshotel desk. It's great for owners who work long hours during the week- it's great to give your dog the chance to romp and play all day. They also give all the dogs "Report Cards" at the end of the day, so you'll know if they've eaten well, slept all day, or had any behavioral issues. Also, this is the only store I go into on a regular basis where the staff greets me as I walk in the door EVERY SINGLE TIME. It doesn't matter how busy they are, they could have a ten-person line and someone fighting with them about an expired coupon for $0.10 off, they always make a point of greeting everyone. I've worked in retail, and I know how hard that can be- so definite kudos to the staff for that. read more

Beyond rude. I just went there to get some food & a bowl for my puppy. I didn't use a cart & I CLEARLY didn't see a sign saying "please keep heavy items in your cart". Also, I didn't have a cart even if I did. It's a 15lb bag, not anything crazy. Not to mention, I put that bag on the belt every single time I come to a Petsmart. The cashier asks if the toy I got & the bag of food was it... I say, "no, I also have this bowl & these cans of food". Rather than ask me if I could remove the dry food from the belt she asks me to hand everything 1 by 1 to her. Confused why she's not just using the conveyer belt I ask why she can't move the things along... to which she replies, "THERE IS A SIGN SAYING NO HEAVY ITEMS!" Clearly I didn't see that, which I told her, but she continued to be rude the entire transaction. Just disappointing that you can't even buy dog food without someone being a total jerk. I get tensions are high right now, but your customers should be treated with respect. She was clearly mad I didn't have my mask on, which is now optional, so she was flippant. Love the staff and their passion for our fury family members!!! The very impacting issue is that the pick up & drop off is inconsistent. They will be enrolling a new member and have you waiting to drop off your pup making you late for work or an appointment. They need to improve this quickly! Other places have an amazing & efficient process. They also should add video so we can check in on our puppies during play time.They are a huge chain to keep their brand they need to be more efficient in these ways. One other thing is the checkout process. You can purchase 10 day & 20 day passes. Just like a grocery store this need to be electronically tracked not a manual (paper card). I love them but these are major ways to improve their business. read more

I take my old dog, who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer on October 7, walking there every day, because it's the only place he'll dependably do that. When he stops on his own, I entice him around some more with free treats from the bowls by the cashiers. (Petco's good for walking too, but they don't have free treats.) I think that this is a big reason why he's still alive more than 5 months after his diagnosis (my vet says to "keep him moving"). Staff there are always very welcoming to him & to me. Last summer Petsmart was his air-conditioned dog park when it was too hot to walk him outdoors. I had him groomed there for 8 years (until he got too old to stand long enough), they always did a great job, & he loved going there for that too. So I feel a strong loyalty to Petsmart read more

Madeline or Maddie C., is one of the best dog groomers I've ever encountered. She has such positive and vibrant energy that I have not experience with other dog groomers before. We watched our dog being groomed by her for the last five minutes and she was able to calm our dog down as she has trouble being brushed and will nibble people. We didn't see our dog doing this with her in the last moments! She really cared and listened to the needs of what we were seeking in grooming. She's super professional, friendly, attentive, calm, and does her job exceptionally well. Because of this one time interaction we've had with her, I will solely continue using her as our dog groomer and recommending her to friends. She is just awesome, request to use her if you can! I wouldn't call it a complete misnomer, but it's worth saying out loud: pets aren't always that smart, really. In fact, most of the time mine just tags along and makes a general nuisance of herself here, never pays with the correct change (or at all), and inevitably slides all over the slick concrete flooring. That said, this Petsmart has lots of good juju going for it, like the fact that it's huge (freakin' huge, as they would say in a made-for-tv movie for impact), and the staff seems like they're genuinely pet lovers, which is important, I'd think, if you're going to work around them day in and day out. As a dog (and cat) owner, the stuff I'm usually on the lookout here is mostly of the semi-vanilla variety, but don't think that makes me an automaton. Moreover, I'm selective, and for my pup, I want great selection, decent pricing, and to get out of any store that encourages me to bring her in without major incident. And on those criteria, this Petsmart fits the bill. Minus a star for the fact that the last time I was in there, the credit card/debit card machine was on the fritz. I've had to travel to dallas on weekends for work the last three months, and none of my usual three dog watchers were available this past weekend, so I brought my 8 month old Golden Retriever to the pet hotel at petsmart from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. I'm livid. After a few minutes of talking with the staff, my pup takes a MASSIVE poop on the floor, followed by a MASSIVE, extremely yellow pee. Like the kind of yellow that indicates he's very dehydrated. This wasn't one of the "I can't control myself" pees. He had already calmed down, and he hasn't had an inside accident ANYWHERE in over 3 months. I was upset, and even the lady next to looked at me like "wtf this doesn't seem right." I shook it off, paid, and went back to my car. As soon as we get outside he took TWO more poops (much smaller, but still enough to need two bags) and another pee. That was when I knew I'd never come back and I'd never give that petsmart any money again. I got home and he ran straight to his water jug and drank almost half the jug (half a gallon of water). That was when I knew I had to write a review. With that being said, he was fed and he is alive, so that's good. So mad. I wish I would have asked for a refund. read more

I used their pet hotel service. I noticed there weren't many recent reviews so I wanted to write one to help the next person. My fiancé and I went out of town for a wedding and all of our friends/family were either out of town/going to ACL. We were out of options so decided to try the Petsmart Pet hotel. We called Thursday and were able to get our golden retriever in. The process of booking and dropping our pup off was easy. However, when we picked him up 2 nights later, his whole bottom half was covered in pee. We didn't notice until we got in the car and it reeked of dog pee. This leads me to believe he was either in a dirty room or wasn't taken out, so he had peed himself and had to sit in it. When I called to ask, they said they had so many dogs over the weekend they couldn't pin point just his situation and what might have happened. Needless to say, we will not be taking our dog back. read more

I took my dog to get his nails trimmed here and as per usual I asked for the muzzle in advance (my dog tends to get anxious in groomers, vets, etc.) I was told by the LEAD groomer that my dog was "vicious" about 5 minutes into the trimming and that I would have to pay an extra $10 if they were going to do it. When asked why he thought that and what my dog was doing that made him feel that way, he said "well if he didn't have the muzzle on, he'd definitely have gotten one of us"... isn't that the point of the muzzle? Whatever, I let it slide and agreed. Not 2 minutes later they come back and flat out say they aren't going to trim his nails. If you want your pet taken care of by professionals, do not take them here. read more

The employees have ZERO sense of responsibility or action. I've gone in the morning when there is no one there, literally no one. While talking to Daniel he was professional but his excuse for her behavior was that "she is just blunt" . I know first hand working in customer service is hard. Everyone out on the floor has always been very helpful, I decided to try the grooming salon out after walking past it many times and it was a train wreck. Everybody seemed extremely stressed out and tense. The woman I dealt with who I believe was Hailey was extremely snappy when I was asking simple questions. Do not recommend. Call to get our cat's nails clipped. I called on a Sunday and spoke to someone that wanted me to call back on Monday. I called Monday to make the appointment and was told the lady that cuts cats nails came in on Wednesday. On Wednesday I call and am told Thursday is cat day and no appointment is needed just bring her in. On Thursday we pack the cat drive the 20 minutes to get there and they say, for the first time, that they weren't taking any new clients. Thanks for not mentioning that all the times I called. I enrolled my 3-month old shepard mix in the beginner level class where she successfully learned sit, stay, leave-it, drop-it, and more. She loves visiting every week, greeting her trainer, Eric, learning, eating treats, and having puppy play time. The friendly staff always greet my pup and remember her by name. Now she's 6-months and still excited to practice everything she learned in class. She'll definitely continue into intermediate level and beyond! read more
