We took our two dogs here for a 10 hour day care trip. When our 7 year old dog got home we could tell she was holding her pee for awhile. When we called the store and asked when the last time they were taken out to pee/ poop they informed us they were never taken out in the 10 hours they had our dogs. They told us "we have 150 dogs you can't expect us to take them all out." Our 7 month old puppy came back covered in pee after 10 hours locked in the same small room with no bathroom breaks. Highly recommend avoiding taking your dogs here. Completely inhumane. read more

Took Winston to the PetSmart store to remove few tangled hairs and give him a bath. My only request was to remove the coconut oil I spilled on him from his hair because I couldn't remove all of it at home. They took him in and charged me $11 extra for the oil. View his wet picture- This is how they gave him to me and with a towel to dry him myself at home with an invoice of ~$100.. hair still as oily as it was. They blamed it on Winston for not drying him saying "he didn't like the fan" and asked me to bathe him myself again at home to remove the oil completely ‍ Winston normally goes to As The Fur Flies and no issues there. They give him to me fluffy and fresh. His groomer is out sick so I took him to PetSmart and I regret it. DONT take your cat there (they verbatim said cats are harder to groom than dogs because they don't stand like dogs and they sit instead so they can never get it done properly). The girls are nice however so I gave this experience 2 stars and never going back! I don't like giving bad reviews but this was not OK at all. read more

Yesterday there was a socially-distanced line all the way down the entire aisle, and while there were several staff members there but only ONE was actually working, checking out customers, while ALL of the others were just chatting with each other! And while almost ALL of the customers in line had COVID masks on, the cashier did NOT! We turned around and left. We'll NEVER go back to that horrific store. read more

I've been going to this groomers for about a year and a half. I take my golden doodle to see Rachel every time. Recently we adopted a mini Aussidoodle and he's been groomed twice by Rachel. She does an amazing job and sends us off with a report card of how our pup did. I drop them both off in the morning and then pick them up about 5 hours later. My dogs smell amazing and feel soooo soft. read more

I went to the Sunset Valley store. I had to dodge the dog poop right at the door. It had obviously been there a bit since it was spread out from having been stepped on. Once I got in the store it reeked of urine. I should have left then, but I didn't. I picked up the cat food I intended to purchase and went to check out. I placed the cat food cans on the belt grouped by brand and flavor. I had 12 cans of applaws cat food. It was buy 10 and get 2 free. I had those in six stacks of two.  I made a point of telling Gibson I would be getting 2 cans free and explained the sale. Gibson looked down at the six stacks of two and told me I didn't have 12 cans. It's been a while since I have studied multiplication tables but I am confident 6 X 2 still equals 12. Gibson scanned all 12. No scanning 1 and multiplying by 12 on the register for Gibson. And he was not fast at all. I was charged for all 12. No free cans.  Gibson stared at the register for a bit. Turned the screen towards me and said with regards to the total, "It's really not that bad. You could just go ahead and pay it."  Why should I pay for 12 If 2 are supposed to be free? And it is out of line for your employees to give me suggestions on how to spend my money. I said no! This stumped Gibson for a moment. He then said he could fix it. He mashed around on the register keys for a bit and admitted that wasn't working. (No kidding.) I started to look for my keys in my purse. There are other pet stores where I can get everything I was trying to buy. (Don't worry, it won't be Petco in Sunset Valley because they hire from the same place as you do. Some of their employees can't do math either.) Gibson reached into his pocket, pulled out his wallet and removed a $5 bill and offered it to me to cover the cost of the 2 cans.  I told him he could keep the cat food. He tried to get me to stay to buy the cat food. I doubt he knows how to cancel the sale. And he should not have offered me money. Not once did it occur to Gibson to ask for assistance. I think he might have been afraid to ask. Gibson really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a cash register.  It's good to know in these tough economic times PetsMart is doing so well they can afford to let money walk out the door. read more

I've called and called and even emailed on how to redeem a couple free dog walking coupons. I've been consistently told that the owner would contact me as the staff has little idea about their processes for coupons. I've encountered businesses like these before--empty pledges for services to gain good will from the community and marketing with no intention of follow through. I would not trust such a company to be responsible to care for a pet much less any other trust-necessary service. I strongly recommend avoiding this company or else you will very likely get burned. read more

We just picked one of our hounds up and learned that they didn't feed her twice during her three day stay. We know because we gave them the exact amount of food for the visit and they gave us back a bag of breakfast food and a can for an evening feeding. When we asked, the counter guy looked at her chart and said, "looks like we missed a couple of feedings. Sorry..." Needless to say we won't be returning there, and highly recommend that anyone with boarding booked there reconsider. I didn't used to be a PetSmart shopper, but I really like this location so I've started shopping here more often instead of at competitors. They always make a point to greet every customer as soon as they walk through the door. When staffing permits, employees will open more registers when they see the line starting to stack up. They're consistently well stocked. I also really like the groomer we go to, Maddie. She does a great job and is so sweet to my pup. Overall, pleasant experiences at this store. Would recommend. read more

This review is for New Hope Animal Rescue that operates the Adoption Center within Petsmart. TL;DR: New Hope Animal Rescue is an uncommunicative, unprofessional organization. On April 2 I applied to adopt a bonded pair of cats. I did not hear from New Hope Animal Rescue until April 27 despite an email follow up. On Thursday, April 27 I was contacted by their organization and was told I was #1 on their list of potential adopters. They had a few other interested parties, but felt I was the strongest applicant. One of those interested parties was one of their own volunteers, however this volunteer "has a very volatile on-again-off-again relationship with her boyfriend" (their words) and they were hesitant to adopt to her as the cats have shown an extreme dislike of men in their previous foster situations. As such, they were specifically looking for a single woman or a lesbian couple to adopt them. Also the cats had been at Petsmart since December and the volunteer hadn't committed. We arranged a time for me to come pick them up on Sunday, April 30. Over the next two days I bought all the items I would need to make the cats happy and healthy and set up my house for them. On Saturday, April 29, I received a text from their pick-up coordinator who told me they spoke to the volunteer after speaking to me on Thursday and decided to let the volunteer adopt them. So they waited two entire days after making that decision before informing me, allowing me to spend hundreds of dollars to purchase items and set up my house for this adoption. They offered me other cats, but the bridges were burned. The way this was handled was horribly unprofessional, not to mention they are putting the interest of their staff above the health and safety of their cats. In addition, the Petsmart employees I have spoken to agree that they don't like the organization very much and are even unresponsive and uncommunicative with them as well. So I'd recommend avoiding working with them. The good news is I am already meeting other cats through Austin Animal Center (they replied to be within 24hrs! so definitely recommend their organization or Austin Pets Alive instead of New Hope Animal Rescue). read more

Meghan S in the grooming department is top-notch! I've brought my dog to other (and far more expensive) groomers in Austin and no one compares to Meghan's skill and how much she clearly cares for the animals she works with. My 12.5yr old golden has been going to Meghan for three years. She's quite anxious when she arrives, but Meghan always gets down with her to soothe her with pats and hugs. She is super scraggly when I leave her, and when I pick her up, she looks amazing! If you have a dog with hair like goldens, no one does a better job than Meghan S! read more

Dog Training Review: we enrolled our pup Zoey for the beginner's pup class and have been very pleased. Zoey has learned so many things: sit, lay down, come, leave it, wait, etc. Hayden (trainer) does a great job of working with all the dogs and owners, and spends time with each individually. She is willing to spend time after class answering questions and providing additional tips. I really appreciated her spending extra time trying to socialize Zoey with other pups, which is what she struggles with the most. I highly recommend this class and trainer. read more

I live right down the street from this store, and since I have a few animals I'm in here pretty frequently. I LOVE that there's a pet store, a groomer, training, and a vet all under one roof. This store is well-stocked and they're rarely out of anything I need. Their prices are pretty good, and they're generally cheaper than the Petco next door. I took my husky here for the beginner training class, and the instructor- I think her name was Sarah- was really great. Huskies are notoriously difficult to train, and she was really patient with him. I'm pleased with the results and hope to go back for the intermediate training at some point. The Petshotel is great- I've left my dog here for Doggie Day Care quite a few times, and for overnight care occasionally as well. He loves going to Doggie Day, and usually tries to return to his sled-dog roots and pull me all the way from my car to the Petshotel desk. It's great for owners who work long hours during the week- it's great to give your dog the chance to romp and play all day. They also give all the dogs "Report Cards" at the end of the day, so you'll know if they've eaten well, slept all day, or had any behavioral issues. Also, this is the only store I go into on a regular basis where the staff greets me as I walk in the door EVERY SINGLE TIME. It doesn't matter how busy they are, they could have a ten-person line and someone fighting with them about an expired coupon for $0.10 off, they always make a point of greeting everyone. I've worked in retail, and I know how hard that can be- so definite kudos to the staff for that. read more

DO NOT USE THEIR GROOMING SERVICES!! We took our labradoodle to get groomed today and during pick up there was NO mention of any injuries our dog sustained during grooming. As you can see from the photo, our dog must have been nicked with the razor/blade, and ointment was applied under his front leg. While I appreciate them putting ointment on my dog after they caused this injury, they did not call or advise us of this! I believe they were hoping we would not find it. I'm sure these things happen, and we would have been completely understanding if WE HAD BEEN TOLD prior to leaving the store. To see this on our dog without knowing was a shock to say the least. We will no longer be taking any of our dogs here!!! read more

PetSmart - Injury from grooming. Yellow-ish gunk is the ointment applied by staff. Staff should have told us prior to leaving they hurt our dog. - Pet Stores Near Me - Sunset Valley, Texas

I wouldn't call it a complete misnomer, but it's worth saying out loud: pets aren't always that smart, really. In fact, most of the time mine just tags along and makes a general nuisance of herself here, never pays with the correct change (or at all), and inevitably slides all over the slick concrete flooring. That said, this Petsmart has lots of good juju going for it, like the fact that it's huge (freakin' huge, as they would say in a made-for-tv movie for impact), and the staff seems like they're genuinely pet lovers, which is important, I'd think, if you're going to work around them day in and day out. As a dog (and cat) owner, the stuff I'm usually on the lookout here is mostly of the semi-vanilla variety, but don't think that makes me an automaton. Moreover, I'm selective, and for my pup, I want great selection, decent pricing, and to get out of any store that encourages me to bring her in without major incident. And on those criteria, this Petsmart fits the bill. Minus a star for the fact that the last time I was in there, the credit card/debit card machine was on the fritz. Love this spot! Purchased my dog at a dog adoption, great training classes, toys, treats, a vet and much more! Check them out!!!!

I dropped my 9 month old 100 pound perfect shaped Rottweiler off at the Petsmart in Sunset Valley for a 10 day stay. On the day I picked her up she was noticeably thinner and appeared guarded. The Petsmart attendant said she did fine, what a lie. On the drive home my Rottweiler puked stomach acid, no food. When we got home I tried to feed her but she wouldn't eat. I then noticed a piece of hair missing from her top left eyelash as if the received a cut. I tried to feed my Rottweiler but each time she ate a little she would immediately throw up. I took her outside to use the restroom and her stool was loose and green. Later that date her stool was pure liquid and yellow. I took her to the vet. She was 9 pounds lighter. She lost 9 pounds in 10 days. My Rottweiler had an infection and was given antibiotics. The next few days were very difficult because my Rottweiler was still not able to eat. She used to devour her food and would eat all day if I let her. Now she doesn't want to eat anything. I have to soften her food and hand feed her otherwise she would not eat. I then noticed my Rottweiler grinding her teeth while sleeping. She's never done this before. She is also aggressive toward me, which she has never been before. I have spent several hundred dollars at the vet in the past week and need to take her to the vet again today, because she isn't doing so well. It appears Petsmart grossly neglected my pet and didn't give her the care or attention they promised. I paid over $600 dollars to Petsmart only for them to make my Rottweiler sick and weak. I should have known something was wrong when I asked to tour their boarding facility and was told no. Any other place provided a guided tour of their boarding facility and explained exactly what they do, where they kennel their pets, and where they are let out to play. Be careful boarding your loved one at Petsmart, they did not take care of my pet and did not notice she wasn't eating or lost so much weight. I am angered by the health of my pet and her appearance after picking her up. Now I am faced with several vet visits to find out what is wrong with her and try to get her back to health, not to mention the hundreds of dollars I am now spending at the vet's office. read more

I get my dog and cat food and supplies from Tomlinson's, so this review is for their fish and amphibian section. It is excellent! Good Points: The fish are in really nice habitats that look very clean and the fish and amphibians look very well cared for. Nice selection of fish, too. They sell live crickets of varying sizes as well as fruitflies, worms and other squirmy things that are delicious. They have an excellent selection of aquariums, decorations, supplies and reptile habitats and supplies. They have knowledgeable employees who think carefully about my questions and try very hard to find me exactly what I need or what I might need. These folks really care about fish and amphibians and have an obvious interest in knowing a lot about them and what they need. They know what different critters like to eat and I was particularly impressed that they understand that goldfish need a LOT of room and are firm about giving you the right-sized habitat for them. This is a place where I never have to feel weird about my love for frogs and fish. Bad Points: Just one -- they are REALLY REALLY crowded on the weekends and it is hard to get help. Go during the week if you can. read more

Love the staff and their passion for our fury family members!!! The very impacting issue is that the pick up & drop off is inconsistent. They will be enrolling a new member and have you waiting to drop off your pup making you late for work or an appointment. They need to improve this quickly! Other places have an amazing & efficient process. They also should add video so we can check in on our puppies during play time. They are a huge chain to keep their brand they need to be more efficient in these ways. One other thing is the checkout process. You can purchase 10 day & 20 day passes. Just like a grocery store this need to be electronically tracked not a manual (paper card). I love them but these are major ways to improve their business. read more

Beyond rude. I just went there to get some food & a bowl for my puppy. I didn't use a cart & I CLEARLY didn't see a sign saying "please keep heavy items in your cart". Also, I didn't have a cart even if I did. It's a 15lb bag, not anything crazy. Not to mention, I put that bag on the belt every single time I come to a Petsmart. The cashier asks if the toy I got & the bag of food was it... I say, "no, I also have this bowl & these cans of food". Rather than ask me if I could remove the dry food from the belt she asks me to hand everything 1 by 1 to her. Confused why she's not just using the conveyer belt I ask why she can't move the things along... to which she replies, "THERE IS A SIGN SAYING NO HEAVY ITEMS!" Clearly I didn't see that, which I told her, but she continued to be rude the entire transaction. Just disappointing that you can't even buy dog food without someone being a total jerk. I get tensions are high right now, but your customers should be treated with respect. She was clearly mad I didn't have my mask on, which is now optional, so she was flippant. No doubt in my mind. read more

Madeline or Maddie C., is one of the best dog groomers I've ever encountered. She has such positive and vibrant energy that I have not experience with other dog groomers before. We watched our dog being groomed by her for the last five minutes and she was able to calm our dog down as she has trouble being brushed and will nibble people. We didn't see our dog doing this with her in the last moments! She really cared and listened to the needs of what we were seeking in grooming. She's super professional, friendly, attentive, calm, and does her job exceptionally well. Because of this one time interaction we've had with her, I will solely continue using her as our dog groomer and recommending her to friends. She is just awesome, request to use her if you can! Thank you so much Maddie! read more

Hated the last two visits to this store. For a pet store, they don't seem very pet knowledgeable. First, the trainer (really?) comes up and started petting and giving a treat without permission. We are trying to train and the "trainer" didn't have the discipline or knowledge to properly approach. Then, found the receptionist at the grooming checkin to be rude. I will not be back to this location and will instead stick with Petco. read more

I take my old dog, who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer on October 7, walking there every day, because it's the only place he'll dependably do that. When he stops on his own, I entice him around some more with free treats from the bowls by the cashiers. (Petco's good for walking too, but they don't have free treats.) I think that this is a big reason why he's still alive more than 5 months after his diagnosis (my vet says to "keep him moving"). Staff there are always very welcoming to him & to me. Last summer Petsmart was his air-conditioned dog park when it was too hot to walk him outdoors. I had him groomed there for 8 years (until he got too old to stand long enough), they always did a great job, & he loved going there for that too. So I feel a strong loyalty to Petsmart read more

I've had to travel to dallas on weekends for work the last three months, and none of my usual three dog watchers were available this past weekend, so I brought my 8 month old Golden Retriever to the pet hotel at petsmart from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. I'm livid. After a few minutes of talking with the staff, my pup takes a MASSIVE poop on the floor, followed by a MASSIVE, extremely yellow pee. Like the kind of yellow that indicates he's very dehydrated. This wasn't one of the "I can't control myself" pees. He had already calmed down, and he hasn't had an inside accident ANYWHERE in over 3 months. I was upset, and even the lady next to looked at me like "wtf this doesn't seem right." I shook it off, paid, and went back to my car. As soon as we get outside he took TWO more poops (much smaller, but still enough to need two bags) and another pee. That was when I knew I'd never come back and I'd never give that petsmart any money again. I got home and he ran straight to his water jug and drank almost half the jug (half a gallon of water). That was when I knew I had to write a review. With that being said, he was fed and he is alive, so that's good. So mad. I wish I would have asked for a refund. read more

I took my dog to get his nails trimmed here and as per usual I asked for the muzzle in advance (my dog tends to get anxious in groomers, vets, etc.) I was told by the LEAD groomer that my dog was "vicious" about 5 minutes into the trimming and that I would have to pay an extra $10 if they were going to do it. When asked why he thought that and what my dog was doing that made him feel that way, he said "well if he didn't have the muzzle on, he'd definitely have gotten one of us"... isn't that the point of the muzzle? Whatever, I let it slide and agreed. Not 2 minutes later they come back and flat out say they aren't going to trim his nails. This is honestly THE WORST pet store in Austin. If it wasn't the only place that I could find the particular type of litter I need I would never go here. The employees have ZERO sense of responsibility or action. I've gone in the morning when there is no one there, literally no one. Not even employees, apparently, because I always have to search the entire store to find someone to ring up my items... if you go in the afternoon the employees are too sidetracked with all the customers dogs that are walking around. I used their pet hotel service. I noticed there weren't many recent reviews so I wanted to write one to help the next person. My fiancé and I went out of town for a wedding and all of our friends/family were either out of town/going to ACL. We were out of options so decided to try the Petsmart Pet hotel. We called Thursday and were able to get our golden retriever in. The process of booking and dropping our pup off was easy. However, when we picked him up 2 nights later, his whole bottom half was covered in pee. We didn't notice until we got in the car and it reeked of dog pee. This leads me to believe he was either in a dirty room or wasn't taken out, so he had peed himself and had to sit in it.
