Today Tuesday I called Petsmart in Sterling at Grouping. I had a bad experience with Mr. Tony who answered the phone in a bad way, wanting to make an appointment for my puppy but they refused to do so, arguing that I had to speak to their manager and she was not there because according to them my dogs moved a lot. It seems absurd and out of place to me since all dogs are restless by nature. Well, definitely I was a client who always bought at the Petsmar store but now I do not plan to return. Tommy is the absolute best and so helpful. My dog needs this special prescription food and the other local store ran out and so did I. Sterling had a few left. I called, Tommy answered and put the last aside for me. And even though I showed up just after they closed by minutes, he was soooo sweet - he came to the door opened it up and let me get a can for my girl to have breakfast tomorrow. I am soooo grateful. It really is the people that make the difference. He could have just as easily said "sorry we are closed come back tomorrow" and turned his back on me. We have occasionally used petsmart grooming services for our dog. This is right with our budget, so it's a treat. I took our dog for a bath, nail grind, and brush with furminator. My dog is old (11) and very nervous in general. He was bathed, and when the stylist started to dry him he defected. I realize this is gross and I was embarrassed. But surely this is a nervous response they've seen before!! Instead of cleaning him up and continuing, the stylist called me to pick him up immediately and said he needed to be groomed only at a vet's office. They sent me out in 25 degree weather with a wet 11 year old dog. Was I supposed to walk him around petsmart for 2 hours for him to dry? He was freezing and shivering most of the day, despite several vigorous rub downs with a towel (which he likes.) He wasn't brushed, which was the real purpose in taking him in. Another stylist quickly cut his nails, and my dog was very calm for that, which is unusual, he usually pees all the way through. This is why I'm giving this 2 stars instead of one. I think the issue was in part the stylist, who was a little surly and did not make him feel relaxed or comfortable. We will still use the grooming salon, but we'll be avoiding that stylist. read more

Attempted to exchange dog food that I had purchased here. I did not want to return for cash. I was told if I don't have proof of purchase I can't exchange the food. We had a very unsatisfying experience at this Sterling Petsmart. I had to book over the phone because their website wasn't working. The price online was $85, but when I picked my puppy up they charged me $90 for the same service. I brought my puppy in specifically for the furminator service because he was shedding so much. The appointment was for 3 hours, but I got a call 45 minutes later telling me he was ready. The groomer had left by the time I got there (15 minutes after the call) and my puppy shed all the way home. He obviously rushed it and didn't do a good job. I brought him back the next day for a redo and the guy who redid him, showed me a ton of fur on the floor that he had taken off my puppy. Today, I tried to give them a second chance. Again, I had to call because their website wasn't working and since the girl on the phone didn't hit book in time after I confirmed that the appointment time was perfect, it was gone!! She didn't have any more appointments for the week. I'm so terribly disappointed, as this is my neighborhood store. I just booked online (with no issues!) for the Reston location. I hope I have better luck even though the drive is very inconvenient. I would stay away from the Sterling location. The store is poorly run in general. This isn't my first issue. read more

Took our dog here for a Pawdicure Plus which is supposed to include ear cleaning. His ears were never cleaned (see picture). This makes me wonder if they even brushed his teeth. Go somewhere else. read more

I was referred to check out the grooming salon at this location. I normally go to the one in Leesburg, but they were booked solid for 2 weeks. So I said fine I'll go. And I was told to ask for Katie, but of course, she was booked so I took a gamble. The lady who checked us in was great. Wendy was directed toward my fur ball. I did let the lady who checked us in that my pup is sensitive on his tail and paws (he won't bite, but he will snap maybe depending how far you push it). And he hates to be picked up (abused before I adopted him). When I picked him up, FIRST bill was $66. I have never paid this much at the other location. It's usually about $55. THEN, the "notes" said "very bad behavior, tried to bite when shaving paws." I rolled my eyes. Yes, I understand it is not acceptable behavior, but I let them know. I can't help if the dog was abused, and the fact that you wrote that?! Note to self - do not return to this location, and especially not to miss Wendy. I will find another location in the future. My dog a Maltese had a grooming appointment with Kate H. Kate left the store. Since she is not there Jules did the grooming to Pluto to . After Pluto came back home we saw he was bleeding from the neck. Then we found multiple cuts on neck, chin, chest & back. I'm very angry. Ive taken my shitzu dog to get groomed about 2-3 times and what's easy for them is to just shave him and on top charge $20 extra with saying they brush the hair to get the most knots they can but once I pick him up my poor baby always gets shaved and it's not what I like. Also, since this location is the closest to me last time I took him I picked him up and the next day I saw cuts by his neck and testicles. I called in to complain about it they said it wasn't nth to get worried about but I asked for ban-field to take a look at it, I took him the next day they were trying to charge me $100 when it wasn't even my fault he had those infected cuts. I don't like this place and don't ever recommend grooming here!! And the people + groomers are so harsh and rude. read more

This place has been my go to store for pet supplies for quite a while, I also used to bring my now deceased dogs here for nail trims, the salon staff was always quick and efficient and as my lab (the one with the ruffled scarf in the photo was getting older) they were always gentle with her. I now bring the newest member of the extended family here on less crowded days to shop, they have a good selection of what I need and generally getting in an out is pretty painless overall. read more

Usually love the PetSmart brand, however, this location "allows" patrons to poop-no-pickup their dogs at the entrance. I'm certain the management doesn't really allow this as a rule, however, they aren't doing much to police the entrance or challenge the offenders. They do provide a grassy area across the way, signs, and poop-bags,however ... it could be the residents of Sterling, but even the dullest of humans can be trained. If one is allowed to poop their dog at the entrance and not pick it up ... and others do the same ... ugh. OK ... I've grossed myself out... choose a different location. read more

I called and asked if anyone there knew how to do a proper hair cut for my Bichon Frise ( his normal groomer was completely booked for weeks out.) The lady on the phone said a groomer's name. So I go in for my appointment and I explained how the last Petsmart gave him more of a poodle cut. She asked about how I wanted his head, I told her (I'm thinking sounded like she knows what to do.) I get back and my fluffy white baby is a skinny mess. He was shaved almost BALD...and his face looks like a poodle! I was so angry but what could I do? Please do not take your dog here. I took my puppies to Petsmart after I arrived at my scheduled appointment at Petco in Sterling and the groomer declined taking my little shorkie because of head touching issues that they never told me about before (and still scheduled my appointment -time/money wasted going there). So I went to Petsmart and scheduled with Laura for full grooming. The prices were about a couple of dollars more and I will say it is WORTH it. I know my Shorkie doesn't like being touch around the face and it takes lots of patience. When I went to pick him up, I was shocked in a pleasant way. He still had a fluffy head, no more matting, and he smelled nice. So I took my other two puppies that are Shichons there. Again, I was pleasantly surprised. Particularly and especially my big curly boy which I am obsessing still how nice he looked. By far of all the places I took him to, this place did the best job on him. Kudos to Laura, now my one and only groomer for my pets. I've read the negative grooming experience here and it was total opposite for me. Took my 8 1/2 month old German shepherd puppy here to have his nails done. Called ahead and was told the service was done starting at 12 on a walk in basis. I got to the store shortly after 12 and the service was provided and completed in a very time efficient manner. Very happy with the dremmeled nails. We called this petsmart for booking a grooming appointment for my terrier mix, they said we needed to bring in our dog so they could see him and give us a price for grooming. When we brought him in there, there was this nice lady that said "he is going to be $58 for full groom". She didn't put full groom even though we asked for it. When we came in for our appointment they said it was only bath. We asked to talk to the manager, she was rude and did not even apologize for the mistake. They didn't have time to add in what we asked for and ended up going back home. Stay away from this grooming salon, they have a poor costumer service. read more

This is more of a review of the store not the hospital or grooming. I've been to this store a handful of times and they generally have good sales and you can easily find what you're looking for because of the organization. The staff is super friendly. One employee that sticks out is Richard. Out of the 5 times I've been here he always randomly asks if I need any help all 5 times. Very consistent and always willing to price match for me with my coupons. I'll choose this over Petco near my home anytime. read more

pickup UPDATE: DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Please read this and SEE THE PICTURES to see what they have done to my poor dog. So after my complaint this morning to the store manager and after writing this review, I go to pick up my dog and I find her nail bed bleeding and a part of her ear was cut as you can see in the picture. They said my dog was peeing and had diarrhea the whole time, now I know why Because my poor dog was being tortured there. As soon as I took her out of that hellhole she relaxed and started to fall asleep. and instead of an apology, the bitches response to my concern was: go to another petsmart. And she had the audacity to ask me to lay her hands on my dog again to take pictures of the injury and I said HEEEEELLLLLLL NOOOOOOO as if she didn't torture my poor dog enough in one day. Sooooooooooooooo rude these people, this location should be shut down and it's not just me they have other crappy reviews as well. MORNING REVIEW: This was my first time at this salon. I usually go to another location. Anyhow, absolutely crappy service at the salon, Wendy was so rude, when I took my dog after she came to talk to me about the haircut the first thing she did was give my dog and I a look and starts shaking her head and roll her eyes. My dog is so small (about 6lbs) and gets really nervous when she sees new people, I thought these grooming staff are supposed to make your pet feel more comfortable and not more nervous. When I take her to our usual spot the groomer comes to say hi, plays with my dog, give her treats, makes her feel comfortable. Wendy's rude behavior and bad tone of voice stressed me out as well as my dog causing my poor dog to pee all over the place. If I didn't have a previous appointment and wasn't in rush today I would have taken my dog and walked out of that awful environment, but its for sure a lesson learned, never taking my dog to this place again. I rather drive further out to make sure my cute little dog is happy then see her nerve racked like that. I always get the premium package and pay well over $100 for her hair cut and the least I expect is for them to at least be kind. Secondly she brings up an issue with my account and when I try to explain to her, she cuts me off and says "WEEEEELLLL, I'm just telling you what I see on here" off course I keep my calm and ask for the salon managers name and walk out because I didn't want her to be even more rude and unkind to my dog. But I will call the salon manager as soon as I can get a hold of her and let her know about this. She wasn't there today according to the staff. read more

Not really a bad place. With the selection they offer, there is enough variety for different pet necessities. The only downside I think is the staff (not all) they need to be trained on people and service skills, specially for a pet store. Whoever manages this place needs to step up. Pet Smart Wouldn't Sell Me A Goldfish Today So we were at Pet Smart today. It was my daughter's 6th birthday, and all she could talk about is how she wanted a goldfish. Jen had your typical goldfish bowl in hand and some nice pink rocks that Hannah picked out. It's funny... The goldfish are only .27 cents each, but everything else (food, bowl, rocks, water treatment) is about 15 dollars. Anyway... we finally found the guy in charge of the fish. I mentioned to him that we were buying a goldfish and asked what else we would need. He replied "I can't sell you a goldfish if you're going to put it in that bowl." Bewildered, I asked "Why not?" "You have to have a tank with a filter" he replied. Okay, after a couple minutes of thinking about this, Jen and I decided to buy a goldfish starter kit. It had a filter and everything else you needed except for the fish and the water and was only about 10 dollars more. I grabbed the box and said "we'll take it." The fish guy then informed me that he couldn't sell me a goldfish until 24 or 48 hours after we purchased the filtered aquarium. I laughed in his face honestly thinking he was trying to have fun with me. He wasn't. It was store policy. OK. This is a store that is selling other fish and insects as food for other creatures, and they won't sell me a .27 cent goldfish unless I buy a tank with a filter and then wait 24 to 48 hours afterwards to buy my fish. Is it just me, or have things gotten way out of hand? I guess I could have lied, but it was all so silly, I guess I got caught up in it. In the end, we were able to get a Betta fish on the spot. For whatever reason I don't care... My daughter was happy in the end and that's all that matters. read more

There is a lady in her 50's with over processed hair that did not listen to my husband's instructions regarding our American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull) and got herself bit because she thought she knew my dog better than my husband. My dog has one paw that for some reason she doesn't like getting grinded or clipped and hubby told her to put both leashes on our dog and use another person as a comfort person but she refused to do either. The lady was nasty to my husband and while trying to reach a manager was a joke as well. If they cared about your animals her ass would be fired!!! Oh and the manager called me the next day and when I stepped out of the restaurant I was in 12 min later to call back...the manager left for the day and would not return until a day later...and I never received a call read more

The selection of dog food here is limited, and quite often out of stock. My dog goes through a 35 pound bag of food in 2.5 weeks, so I visit fairly regularly. He is on a fixed diet with Royal Canin brand food, and unfortunately I've had a couple experiences where they did not have the brand in stock, and I schleped over to Tyson's Corner PetCo in order to find it. I give them 3 stars because I'm a bleeding heart, and its very hard for me to leave that store without adopting another cat. Now I bring my dog with me so I can't go near that section. If they would keep their inventory updated, and clean up a little, the store could be a much better experience. Their staff is doing very well in terms of customer service, just add one custodial staff member and one inventory manager! read more

I like this petsmart. I have two cats and so having a helpful place to get advice and get goodies is always a plus. The store is clean, the people are helpful and its close to me which is good. Haha! They have alot of things that our vet has but much cheaper may I add. I hate paying 50% more at the vet so I always jump to petsmart after. Really like this place. I've taken both my dogs to the Sterling location for 7 years. On one of their last visits my yorkie was punctured with I'm assuming the clippers and my Pomeranian's cut was not what I asked for. The groomer never mentioned the puncture and it wasn't until I returned home that I noticed it. I called and spoke with a manager. She asked me did I want to take the dog to be treated I told her I would keep an eye on it and make a decision if I needed to. I had both dogs groomed again after that and again the instructions were not followed. The yorkie's cut in particular was very choppy. It looked like something I could have done at home. The Pomeranians hair was cut completely off when I specifically asked to leave his face full. They did comp my grooming this time. I called to make another appt on 9/19/19 and was told I was banned from booking with Petsmart. So you injure my dog, you don't follow instructions and now I'm banned. I am appalled at the store taking this action after I chose to continue taking my business to them. I should be the one upset, but no. The majority of the time I have received good service which is why I keep coming back. I understand things happen. I can not believe after 7 years of loyal service you would tell me that I can't bring my dogs there over your poor service. read more

I honestly loved coming here but my last visit was toward their cashier last Saturday around 2-3pm. I come from 5 years of customer service / cashier and expect a hello or have a nice day or a small acknowledgement. I went up to the cashier she didn't even say anything nor said the total or asked for rewards it was a mute communication. I said hello and expected a hello back but nothing. Please DO NOT GO HERE FOR GROOMING (unless it's with Tony). I had my furry labradoodle come in today for a regular haircut and nail grind. He gets one every month, and usually lasts about 2-3 hours. When I dropped him off at his scheduled time, the lady at the front who I know I scheduled with, felt his fur for a couple of minutes and told me they would have to shave a bit around his neck because of matting (I already knew this and was ok with it). She said she could keep everything else normal. 4 hours go by and I called to see how much longer it'd take, and the person that answered told me that they were behind schedule because of my dog... I FINALLY get a call, 6 hours later, to pick him up and I didn't recognize my dog. He was completely shaved. A labradoodle with a double coat, shaved... completely... this leading to possible permanent damage with his coat... I found out that another person had cut his hair, not the one I scheduled with, and when I saw the person, she looked extremely sick. With puffy eyes and a really stuffy nose, blowing her nose constantly the entire time I was there. I asked multiple times why I didn't have the person I was scheduled with, the one who told me she was going to leave everything nice, and why my poor pup was there for 6 hours. He came home still stressed out and crying because he's not used to being this cold. I was able to talk to the GM and was told that this was just a miscommunication with the staff... I still am not sitting well with what happened, and the possible fur damage that my dog might have. Do not go here, and please do not go with Laura. read more

Iv been shopping with pets mart for 6-7 year and iv been to so many different stores from west coast to east cost. , I used to love shopping from pets mart because of the way they tread customers and trying to be much better than their competition pet stores , but sadly couple days ago iv been to ( 46220 Potomac Run Plz Sterling, VA 20164 United States) this PET smart and and the way they treaded me as a customer was so bad specially the guy named Ryan in management team made me feeel horrible as a customer and from that day I changed my mind shopping from Petsmart cus I think I should spent my money somewhere that they could tread me great as a customer . Pricing issue was the main reason and Ryan shift manager insult other customers in front of me as an customer and he told me their customers changinging merchandise prices all the time without doing any research or investigating on it and it really hurt my feeling to hear what he said as a customer , unfortunately I decided stop shopping at petsmart after this react of their management and I hope this horrible experience won't happen to any one ! read more

My husband and I came into the store to buy a dog bed and the one we took off the shelf had a bed bug on it. We Googled it to make sure that we were not mistaken, and it was definitely a bed bug. We let one of the staff on the floor know and they said they'd take the bed outside and apologized, but we left immediately and bought the bed elsewhere. I always bring my Shiba Inu into the grooming salon for nail trims and occasional baths. They always do a good job- his nails and hair look good and they are very nice to him (considering he can be a little finicky with his nail trims). The store is nice and spacious, and I can usually find whatever I am looking for. Overall, a great pet store! read more
