I had a very bad experience and would definitely warn any dog owner. My Pomeranian Julian was severely traumatized and lost 5 lbs in 12 days. He only weighed 16 lbs and came home weighing 11. He was hoarse and continually coughing He popped in his kennel at night He never did hat before. When I took him to his groomer she could not work with him when she took him back. She said "what happened to Julian. He has never acted like this before. He is totally traumatized ". He is such a sweet affectionate dog. I blame Animal House. They should be shut down. Julian is only 2 and I pray he gets better . Even animal control saw he is a sweetheart . read more

This place should not be in business. Took my sweet 9-month-old puppy to the two week boarding/training camp at The Animals House. I was immediately concerned when I walked in and saw how filthy the bird's cage was in the front reception area. And then in the back, it was packed--close to 50 dogs in three enclosed areas, with minimal supervision from the staff the owner employs. But I talked to the owner (Kathy) and was assured that she had been in this business for 25 years and had great ratings online. We left our pup there, and were very clear that we wanted frequent updates on how it was going, because our dog has major anxiety and we were very worried. Immediately, multiple days of radio silence. I wrote an email and was blown off. Finally, get some photos and my dog looks awful. We were on the other side of the country so nothing we could do. My dog ended up catching bronchopneumonia from another dog due to poor sanitary conditions, and The Animals House waited multiple days to take her in to the hospital literally next door to the boarding location. We get in there and the vet doctor told us that if she had been in there a day later she could have stopped breathing and died. We ended up needing to use a nebulizer on her for three separate times each day, give her steroid injections, and have her on antibiotics for five weeks. Her lungs still haven't recovered. The worst part: Kathy lied, telling us that she'd never had a dog get sick like this in her 25 years of business. Meanwhile, the animal hospital told us they had had three other dogs from the Animal House in there that week, all with the same pneumonia. And that they would never bring their own pets in there because of all the injuries and illnesses they've seen other dogs get there. Now, almost six months later, our dog has awful separation anxiety, we still can't take her for the same hikes or long walks because of her lung capacity, and we're terrified to leave her at any other facility overnight. The only silver lining: The Animals House paid the over $3,000 vet bills, but aparently, they haven't paid the bills for many other pets they got sick. Should have trusted my gut--25 years of experience means nothing if you can't keep four-legged members of people's families safe. I sent my greyhound/lab mix here for the 2 week boot camp program, and I approve of the results. My dog is a resuce and even though he is very trainable, he is also very excitable so he needs a certain level of discipline from training. Scott trained him for the majority of the time he was there, and whenever my dog sees him now he becomes excited by his mere presence. My dog already had key obedience skills and needed help with socialization for the most part. Scott did exactly what we asked for, and of course my dog still has his flaws after the training was finished. However, keep in mind doggie boot camp will not be the end of training for any dog. It is a great option for building on your dogs training already or giving him basic skills. Afterwards though, it will be up to you as an owner to follow through and solidify any training given to your pet. Plus, 900+ dollars is much cheaper than some of the other boot camps in the area. Final note, it is important to talk to the boot camp instructors before deciding to leave your dog here. My dog has certain training methods I wanted done, and I made sure of that before leaving him here. If you have certain ways of dealing with your pup, it is best to speak to the trainers here before you leave your dog. You may find some of their methods intense, but if your dog is anything like mine that may be needed in controlled doses. read more

We adopted a puppy in April, and he needed some help with teaching and enforcing leash manners, jumping on guests, distractions, recall, sit/stay etc. :) We did the 7 week Intermediate lessons in May-June and found them very helpful -- in particular getting my husband and I on the same page!! -- the instructor was great, we feel like we got our money's worth, and the puppy improved. He is smart but super stubborn and willfully disobedient... Anyway there was a woman in the class who had a rescue dog who had been abused and initially had a number of behavioral problems; she'd sent the dog through the 1 week Boot Camp, and she SWORE IT WAS A DIFFERENT DOG AT PICKUP. This dog was SO perfectly behaved in class, he was like the A student -- we wanted our dog to be like that! Initially I was resistant to the idea of ditching my puppy for a weeklong bootcamp (all the barking, cages, my poor baby ugh) and it gave me anxiety thinking about him being in a cage... BUT we decided to give it a try - you pick 3 behaviors and they work with the dog on it. He's SO improved I can't believe it. He used to pull me on the leash, jump, etc...now he's really great at being polite, good with guests, and his sit/stay/downs and recall are perfect. Clearly he had a good time staying there, he was super social, got walked lots, and had ample time with the trainers indoor and outdoor. We highly recommend Animals House...also they threw in a bath for him towards the end too!! :) Animals House isn't a high end spa so don't expect it to look posh. It's exactly what it is -- a local working facility for dog boarding, grooming, training, and day care. Yeah it kind of smells like dog but whatever. They get results!! read more

Well, I have been a number of "pet hotels," since I am a travel fiend and refuse to leave my two furry children in a kennel while I'm away. At first I thought, oh cool, a place where my dogs could play with other dogs all day while I'm away, rather than being locked up in a tiny cell. It wasn't until my second visit that I realized I wouldn't be taking them here any more. My Siberian Husky is incredibly smart, so he will tell me when he doesn't like something. No, I'm not saying we sit down and discuss economic issues over a bottle of fine wine; his body language says it all. While getting ready to drop my dogs off for their second visit to "The Animals House," my husky immediately locked up when we got to the door, pulling back on his leash, and refusing to go inside. I consider this to be a pretty big clue, and low and behold, he remembers things. When I returned from my trip, my husky was freed from the pen full of dogs, emerging like he had just been liberated from a POW camp in Hanoi. However, I didn't see my other dog playing in the pen. In fact, she wasn't anywhere to be seen. I heard one of the ladies mumble, "you go get [my dog's name]," and she rolled her eyes and grabbed a spray bottle. My other dog was apparently caged up in the back and was presented to me soaking wet. Apparently water is the method of discipline there, so don't be surprised if you see Michael Vick working here on the weekends. Needless to say, I found someplace better. read more

In my last review I mentioned the terrible "training" Petsmart gave my 4 year old German Shepherd in regards to dog aggression. Odin actually got worse and I was really worried. In fact I was so worried and desperate to fix the situation and I actually looked up Cesar Millan's website to see if I could talk to him or his trainers. I wasn't expecting to find much as they only offer things in CA but as I was hunting on every page of his site I saw a recommendation's page of "Trusted personal trainers" where I saw Rudy's Friends. I shot them an email explaining my situation and I think I was too far away from them but they highly recommended the Animal's House. Again, shot an email and heard back VERY quickly from the owner Kathryn and she was willing to do an in home private lesson for quite cheap! It all sounded way too good. So next day she comes over and evaluates Odin and had nothing but good things to say about him. We decided to take him out for a walk to show what his aggression can be like and luckily a lady she knew was right there walking her dog so we practiced with her. She took Odin's leash and showed me what to do and explained it all during it as well. Very hands on. Then had me try and Odin did great! The rest of the walk was amazing and I was so so pleased. We started talking about their Doggie Daycare and its something I have always been interested in to help socialize my dog and she thought he was immediately ready for it! I was really surprised but excited so we scheduled a drop off the next day. I took him in and of course he was nervous and shaking and I was to worried he was going to eat someone's little dog. It was only a trial day so he was only there about 3ish hours. When I came back I shyly asked for a report and they said he was amazing!! No dog aggression, walked him with other dogs and no lunging or biting and honestly? I wanted to cry. I was so thrilled that there was progress and to see him in the pin with all the other big dogs behaving I was so proud!! Since then he has been so so much better on walks, he still has his moments but it will take time. I will continue to take him to doggie daycare and I recommend this place to everyone! I cannot wait to see what is in store for Odin here and the owner Kathryn is simply amazing. Super friendly and reassuring and I am so glad I found this place, thank you guys! read more

Stay away from this place if you have allergies. PERIOD. I don't blame them (as you can see in my rating) but just something you should know. I did one class in here and almost went into epileptic shock. My system shut down when I walked in this place. IT NEEDS TO BE CLEARED OF DANDER regularly but I imagine its difficult. The good news is that I loved the class I took and since I can no longer go to them my kids have a chance of being with our puppy and they love it. 4 stars all around. We signed our 9 week old Retriever up for puppy class and were pleasantly surprised with the class and the instructor. Kathy took time work with my wife and I based on some special needs during and after the class. Her time, explanations and suggestions helped all of us get through the early puppy phase without scarred arms and being drug down the sidewalk on walks. We now have a well behaved (but still hyper) dog that is quickly improving and has become a important part of our family. Thanks to Kathy and her staff for a great 7 weeks and we look forward to further training at the Animals House. read more

Always very friendly and seem to take great care of my dogs when I drop them off for boarding. Considering the amount of attention they give the dogs and the fact they let them play all day it is a great value. Some other places in the area charge you extra to let the dog out of the kennel at all, this place has them in a play pen all day long so I know they are not too board. read more

We recently signed up our four year old German Shepherd, Odin. We wanted to get our dog socialized so he'd be better acquainted to hanging around other dogs and not be quite so defensive. Kathryn, owner of the Animals' House, came to our apartment to do a little private lesson with us and to get to know Odin. She spent a lot of time trying to understand our dog, what his needs are, how he behaves. I have to give her credit -- she took a directy hands-on approach, spending about an hour and a half with us. Our pup has been to the daycare and has responded well to it. He's come back well behaved, calmer and less stressed. We'll definitely continue taking him there for further training. While we've only just started going, but so far we're happy customers, and will update my review after a few months to report on progress. read more

We've been bringing our now almost-2-year-old Golden, Macho, for boarding as well as obedience classes. The overnight stays have been fine. He's come back with an upset stomach a couple of times, but he has a very sensitive stomach and it wouldn't surprise me if he was just nervous as to our whereabouts, but he's always happy when we get him so we continue to bring him. (That's the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.) I like how they let the dogs play during the day and the prices are very fair. The obedience classes have been great! Very informal and tailored to the specific needs of the people/dogs. We are now finishing up Advance Manners, hopefully he passes the CGC Test next week! Kathy is very knowledgeable and with her help, we were able to make significant progress with Macho's training and manners. We've also used their dog walker service a couple of times when things have come up and they have been great! read more

Post boot camp update: We actually sent my parents dog who spends a fair bit of time with us to boot camp first as she and our dog didn't hit it off AT ALL! Not to mention my parents dog had some poor leash manners. Matt to the rescue we picked up sweet Moochie on Saturday and a changed dog for the better. She was like a different dog on the leash. Granted Matt did advise us that my parents dog will likely never like other dogs but if we can get my parents dog and my dog to toleration that's a success in my book. They employ positive training methods as much as possible. In the case of my parents dog who is quite stubborn and not food motivated we're using a prong collar on her for walks as that's the only thing she'd respond to. Although Matt did advise us if we do a leash correction and then she stops the behavior then give her praise. This place although small they're wonderful between Matt the terrific trainer, and the staff at the front desk and those in the back caring for the animals they're just so nice, patient as I think I had more stress about sending my parent's dog to boot camp than the dog had, and they answered all of my questions. I sent my dog for a daycare trial the day we picked up my parents dog. And my dog Rose the Rottie mix came home exhausted so that was a good thing. Rose will be going to boot camp herself soon as again she needs to tone down her greeting of dogs while out and about. Both dogs walked kinda near each other to get used to one another (before we do a full on intro) and that went well, but we're taking baby steps with it, as Moochie the parents dog is still unsure about other dogs and Rose just wants to play. I without a doubt trust this place with my fur sis, and my fur baby. The staff their treats each dog as if they were their own. Pre-boot camp: So I'd heard good things about them from the rescue where we got my parents dog and my newest dog. Other pet parents used them for either daycare/boarding and/or training and spoke highly of them. I contacted them to work with our new dog, and Matt came over to our place to do an assessment of what might be good to refine and enhance some of the training our dog already had. I was most appreciative that he didn't try to upsell services and I could tell based on my conversation with him and just the bit of work with my dog during the assessment that he knows his stuff especially in dealing with a dog who is leash reactive. I will definitely be using them as we're planning to send our dog to boot camp to help work with our dog on her leash manners which is important to my husband and I as we have a lot of dogs in our neighborhood and a lot of great neighbors so we want to be equipped to allow our dog to be a good citizen of the neighborhood. So look for an update on our dog's progress with boot camp. I'm also going to see about having Matt work with my parent's dog too as she's leash reactive and aggressive towards dogs (although both dogs loooove people). read more

Love it. I have referred both friends and rescue acquaintances to The Animal House. My German Shepherd couldn't be happier. They take excellent care of her and are very patient even with her medical condition. It's like a family. I've gotten to know the workers and they are top notch, caring, fun, and friendly. The space seems small, but not only is it an optical illusion,it also is better that the dogs are separated by energy level and size. They don't have a lot of fights with this set up, and I am happy to say that it builds happy and harmonious packs. Since they are also a training facility, they work with dogs who even have had issues in a daycare environment. It is VERY clean. Grooming is included with the monthly package- Emmie has a long wick and they get it right! I would not trust my baby with anyone else. read more

We had no previous experience with this place since it's not that close to our house but we took our 11 month old puppy here for the two week boot camp, all I can say is the results are nothing short of amazing and the price was very reasonable compared to what other places are charging. Our dog was so bad we were considering giving him away; he has come home like a completely different dog. Our main trainer was Matt; he obviously has a gift for working with dogs. I can't get over the positive changes they made in our dog in just two short weeks, it's incredible. We will definitely be going back for some of the more advanced lessons in the future. read more

We took our dog Riley here for puppy obedience training. We loved our teacher Misty. The training was great & we're overall satisfied. If the location wasn't so far, we'd take him there for daycare & boarding.. =( But that says a lot about choosing this place for obedience class.. We could've chosen a closer (even cheaper?) one. We've taken our lab mix here several times and the staff was always friendly. Its in a shopping center so the outer runs are not that large, and the inner cages are kind of small, but our dog got a lot of socialization with other dogs while we were at work. read more

I took my dog here for a puppy class and Misty was wonderful! I did a puppy class at petsmart and this was much more hands on and personalized. Not only did my dog learn a lot but so did I! They do positive clicker training and reward the dogs with play time. I gave 4 stars because we took him there once for an over night stay and I was disappointed when we picked him up the next morning. I arrived at 9 a.m. and he was locked in a single crate (howling as if he was dying) probably because we don't use a crate. When they brouht him out he was very antsy and I asked if he had been taken out yet and the guy told me "no" and handed me my bill. I was under the impression that they would take the dogs out as early as 6-7 a.m. as I was told when I dropped him off. I do have a large dog so maybe they take the smaller dogs out first but I wasn't given any explanation when I asked so I doubt we would return for overnight boarding. As far as pricing goes it is competitive with other businesses in the area. The puppy class is definitely worth the $! read more

I took my puppy here for puppy training class and could not be happier! I LOVE our trainer, Cameron. She is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to stay after class to answer any additional questions, which is great considering having a new puppy is like having a new baby - a little daunting at times :) Typically during class we review homework and learn new training techniques and then always have a few scheduled play times, which is wonderful to help your puppy socialize. During play time, the trainers help manage the pups so its never too out of control. Not only is Cameron a wonderful trainer, but so is the owner, Kathy, and the rest of the staff. You can really tell how much they love dogs. Before the puppy training session started, I called The Animals House regarding some questionable behavior that my puppy was demonstrating, and was able to set up an individual session with Analise. It was so great to be able to have a trainer come to my home and observe behavior and then immediately discuss the behaviors and training techniques to correct the behavior. I found the pricing of the individual session and puppy class very reasonable, especially since the class is 7 weeks in duration ( i think some other establishments' classes are only 5 or 6 weeks long). I will definitely be signing up my puppy for additional training classes!! read more

After my dog Jamaica passed back in December, '15, I was very sad. In January I got a Cavachon named Ubi. At just 12 weeks old, Ubi started attending daycare, and we even started puppy obedience class shortly thereafter. Unfortunately after one class, Ubi broke his leg in the middle of the night while sleeping with me on the couch. The Animals House was wonderful, helping Ubi, and myself get through this stressful time. Ubi has to remain in his crate both at the Animals House, and for the most part at home while he healed, and I'm sure that was challenging for Ubi, and the staff at the Animals House. I know it was stressful for me. Whenever he needed to go for a walk, they needed to put a plastic bag on his injured leg so the bandage would not get wet. Plus, he needed extra walking since he wasn't getting any exercise sitting in his crate all day. I commend the Animals House for their hard work, helping to nurse my puppy back to health. Today, Ubi deals with some separation anxiety issues, even in my own house. Whenever he can't be where I am, he barks, and howls, and yelps like his world is ending. Not when I leave him at the Animals House though. When he sees where we are going in the morning, he starts pulling on his leash to get to the door. He is so excited when we go inside, and he doesn't even look at me when they take him in the back. I know he loves it there and that they take good care of him. That's why I will continue to give them a 5 star rating here, and to anyone else who asks. read more

My dogs were boarded there this past week. They provided amazing care and responded to my inquiries regarding how my dogs were doing. Since my pups were there for a week, a complimentary bath was included. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to not have to bathe them right after a long flight home. We just finished up puppy class with our now 5 month old Aussiedoodle. Our instructor was Cameron and she was absolutely terrific. This was a 7 week course meeting once a week. Each class we'd go over homework and get new homework. You learn all of the basics and more. Twice a class all the puppies get to run around and play with each other which is great! My dog Sadie has been coming here 1x/week for daycare for a few months, and she seems to absolutely love it. I especially love that the staff all seem to be trainers and/or incredibly knowledgable about dogs, as several other daycare facilities I checked out were just staffed by high school kids that didn't really know what they were doing. Sadie also just started novice obedience last week, and even though she got very excited and was a bit hard to deal with, I can tell that we'll get a lot out of the class. I felt bad that Sadie was a bit of a distraction during class, but our trainer Nicole assured me that it wasn't a problem - she suggested a Gentle Leader collar, gave me one to try out until the next class, and showed me how to train Sadie to use it. I know I'll definitely be purchasing the GL, but giving me the option to try it out first was incredibly generous as it can be quite expensive buying and trying out different dog products without knowing whether or not something will work. I will definitely recommend The Animals House to anyone I know that is looking for dog boarding, daycare, or classes, and I look forward to taking other obedience classes here in the future. read more

Stopped by during the summer to check out the place and to possibly pick up a harness for the little guy. Wasn't impressed at all and wasn't able to get that much information or a tour of the facility. With the site being very small and located in between a Dunkin Donuts & Papa Johns store, I was able to look back through a window and just saw a couple employees standing around occasionally spraying dogs with squirt bottles and they had a lot of dogs in such a small space. I watched for a little bit before leaving and right before I left I hear a scary noise from the dog daycare area. Not sure what it was but I wouldn't ever board my dog at this place. I'm glad there is multiple dog daycare places in the area. read more

I brought my dog here for Doggie Daycare. She is a very outgoing little dog who likes to play with other dogs and has a great temperament. Loud noises, strange people, and new dogs do not frighten her at all. The facility is small and is in a strip mall. The reception area is very clean and inviting and they have a selection of toys, gifts, and dog food for sale. I had never been here before so they explained everything and showed me the play area where the dogs are kept. You can see into the back through glass windows where the (supervised) doggie playground is. There are two small separate areas separated by chain link fence, one for big dogs and the other for small dogs. They have a trial evaluation the first time your bring your dog. She did fine so she got to stay all day at the discounted rate. When I called to check on her progress, the staff told me how great she was doing, and even said that she "adjusted" much faster than most dogs do. I am sorry that some people did not have a good experience with their dogs coming here. My dog made some new friends and got to play all day. However, not all dogs would like this I am sure. For us it was fine, but not all dogs would do well in this kind of environment. Maybe people should get to know their dogs better before leaving them in a new place. The location is very convenient to where I work and the rates are very reasonable. I will use Doggie Daycare again in the future for my dog to have an occasional fun play day when I need to work late or run errands. When I came to pick up my dog, I walked over to the window to peak in at her and she was playing and seemed happy. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because my dog seemed very thirsty when I picked her up (hopefully because she had been running around and playing so much and was excited to see me). read more

Yes it is in a shopping center, so it's not the most spacious of the kennels in the area, but the staff is friendly and my little girls are always happy when I pick them up. The prices (for overnight boarding) are pretty reasonable as well. We haven't utilized any of their other services (training, day care, etc) but I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot if I was in the market. read more

We have been taking our two Australian Shepherds here for several years and we are quite happy. We insist on a place that takes the dogs outside for walks, as they do. And they have always been great when we are away and either of our dogs has any kind of health issue -- our female has had small seizures since she was a puppy and the male once lost part of a tooth. We adopted a rescue dog that is a mix. We have worked with dogs before and I have gotten my previous dogs to sit/stay, ring a bell to go outside and give a high five. Our new little girl was not responsive to her name or treats. She also does a little pee when she see's new people and wants them to pet her. She was good on the leash but when people came near her she would be uncontrollable. It made it difficult in the evenings. We looked around and found this place, with good reviews. We thought we would try it. Our little girl spent 2 weeks with Scott. Our little girl now is much better. We can call her inside the house and she will come to us. She now knows her name and is responsive to our commands. It has made a world of difference. Yes, it was really difficult to be away from our girl for 2 weeks. We had daily conversations on her status. Scott was always willing to answer our questions. (I'm sure he knows who this is now) We will be following up with weekly dog training that is included in the boot camp, and I'm sure our little girl will only get better. If you have some of these issues with your dog don't hesitate and give them a call, as we are happy we did. read more

I'll comment on the training and the boarding/daycare. Training: When we adopted our rescue he was 8 months old & 70lbs of unbridled/untrained/unmannered energy. Almost too much to handle - until that is, he did the 1-week of "boot camp" training/boarding with Animals House. He came home a well-intentioned, hard working pup with a heart of gold -and while he's still a work in progress, he's never returned to the over-the-top behaviors he had when we dropped him off. We've also taken basic obedience, K9 good citizen, mindful mutts, noseworks 1 and 2, and leadership and have gone on the Hounds on the Town trips. The structure, care, attention + effectiveness of training & strategies keeps us coming back even though I live/work over an hour away. Daycare/Boarding: The consensus in the comments is that it's a small place - and it is. But the 4 (+) walks a day + human interaction and structured play make the space just right. We play at bigger daycares, too, and honestly Nick (the pup) loves the Animals House as much -if not more than - the bigger spaces. And he hasn't come home with cuts/scrapes yet which is a win, too. They saved our lives by helping with the training and continue to raise the bar with creative classes, great personalities and buckets of support. I am SO grateful for the Animals House! read more
