Scott is a wonderful dog trainer and a great guy. He trained both of my dogs and they are so much better off because of it. He has an incredible connection with the dogs and I, for the life of me, don't know how he does it. He is gentle but firm and the methodology he uses is the only one that has worked for my crazy pooches. My dogs have gone from insane, dominant, and overly hyper to a much calmer, much less dominant version of themselves. I highly recommend Scott, and his business, for everyones' dog training needs. Thank You Scott!

Scott is amazing. We rescued a 6month old Anatolian Sheppard who at the time was already 65 lbs and about 4 feet tall. Not only did he train Sami but also trained us on how to learn his tendencies. It was a huge struggle with many ups and downs. At one point we were ready to give up but Scott convinced us that it would get better. 6 months and 80 lbs later, Scott was right and we can't imagine our lives without Sami. Thank you so much.

With two small children and a new puppy we had our hands full! Scott was my first call. He responded very quickly. From the very first conversation, I could tell that Scott truly cares about dogs and the well being of the home. Scott began teaching the second he walked in the door. His keen observations on not only our new pup but our family as well, allowed him to completely customize his teaching for the needs of our family. He worked great with the entire family (including the children) to ensure that we are creating a happy, safe, and balanced environment for everyone. We are so glad that we chose to work with Scott rather than enroll in a group puppy class. The fact that he is able to come into our environment and customize his lessons for our family was the best thing we could have done for our new addition to the family! Thank you Scott!

Worked with Scott after my Husky re-started jumping on guest after we moved out to Chantilly. He was able to work with me as well as my dog and gave us good exercises to run through which diminished the jumping on guest within 3 sessions. Really happy we went with a private trainer instead of a treat based traininer.

Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!

Their approach was calm, clear, and incredibly effective -- they helped us understand why our dog was acting out and taught us how to respond in ways that built trust and confidence. One thing that really stood out was how thoughtful and hands-on they were -- they even brought two of their own well-balanced dogs to help with socialization. That made a huge difference in helping our pup feel more comfortable and learn from positive role models. We saw real results quickly and now feel so much more connected and in control. If you're facing behavioral challenges -- especially with a rescue -- Good Dog Workshop is the team you want in your corner. We're so grateful for their help in bringing out the best in our dog.

My dog was very serious and somewhat-aloof when I first adopted her; now she is a huge goofball who loves to snuggle and be best friends with anyone who comes in to the house. I have met with Marina twice, and plan on working with her again in the future. I highly recommend Good Dog Workshop-they know what they're doing!

We adopted our boy Mortimer last year after he had been…read moreliving as a stray, and we were really struggling when he came home with basic manners, reactivity, and having him settle in with our other dog. We ended up sending both of our boys for a six-week board and train with Kelia. It seemed to only make sense to send both dogs so they would have the same baseline training. Kelia was amazing! She kept us informed just about every day with videos and texts so we could see that the boys were happy and making progress. When Kelia brought the boys home, she spent a few hours with us, showing all the commands and techniques that she taught them, so we had a seamless transition. The "place" command alone has been lifechanging. (Although as you can see in the picture, they sometimes refuse to use separate mats, LOL.) We use the command before we feed them, initially when guests come by, and when we just need them to settle down a bit. It has reduced the stress and chaos in our house tenfold, and we actually can see the boys relax when they know they have a place to go and chill out. Kelia also gave us the tools to make leash walking and general obedience so much more successful. There are a lot of options out there for training. What set Controlled K9 apart for us was (1) our boys lived with Kelia, her family, and her dogs during training - they were not staying in a kennel and were in a real-life, loving environment, and (2) the promise of lifetime, free follow-up support. The boys have been home now for about 3 months. The training has stuck, and we feel like we really have the tools we need to make life pleasant for all of us, including the boys. Kelia has also proactively checked in to make sure things are going well, provided tips on the best way to reinforce training, and has responded quickly when we have follow-up questions, including offering a visit. Over three months later, we are still completely satisfied with the training and support provided by Controlled K9 and Kelia, and we would use them again in a heartbeat.

And this last personality trait caused several issues. She grew used to the freedom of a large property and was very resistant to being on a leash. Pulling and too excited to walk nicely. She loves playing with our 7-year-old but was too rough, jumping and nipping. She had an electric fence collar that she respected when she wanted to, and would recall when she felt like it. Our home training was ineffective as she grew older and as she started to develop new bad habits, we were looking for training options. Finding Controlled K9 for Board and Train was the best scenario as we had an upcoming month-long family trip planned. Lexie was so confident with her from the first moment that we didn't question that we were leaving her in the best hands. We regularly received pictures and videos showing her progress and we could see how our puppy was doing. It was unbelievable. After 4 weeks we got back an almost different dog. At first we were concerned that she might have lost her puppy spirit, but she returned to her cute silliness and endless affection very quickly. Meanwhile she had learned great manners. Walks on the leash without pulling. Stops when we stop. She stays at the property line and waits until we return. Runs with our child without jumping. She recalls reliably despite distractions. And no longer chases the cats. And a bonus, we can now even take her out in public easily. She calmly stays next to our table without bothering other people or dogs. She learned Respect. And while not perfectly, we have been able to maintain the learning. Thank you Lexie! And thank you Controlled K9!

Genevieve came highly recommended from a local pet store, so we were very interested for her providing training to our 4 month old puppy and us. I called her in order to get more details about her training program and her prices. She did immediately pick up and sounded very friendly, but explained to me that she is currently busy and asked me to send an email to her contact email address. She would then respond and provide me the information I was after. Which is not a problem, I know people are busy at times so had no concerns with sending the email to her. I immediately after the call sent the email. And here now comes my complaint: 20 days after sending my email I still haven't received a reply from Genevieve. 6 days ago I followed up with another email, still no reply. I understand that sometimes emails go into the spam folder, but since I had spoken to her 5 min prior to my email I would expect that Genevieve would check her spam folder since she knew that I would send an email. Long story short, I would have liked to have hired her services but unfortunately due to no response this will not actually happen. We have now found another dog trainer, who was refreshingly responsive.

Every booking, every pet, every time: more signatures and "agreements" than a mortgage closing. Somewhere there's a lawyer who's never met a dog and decided the real threat to this business is the guy who's paid them loyally for three years. You carefully fill out the entire grooming form online, pick every option -- then show up and they shove a paper copy across the counter to sign the exact same thing again. And after all that paperwork, they still claim they don't have the phone number they've had on file for three years and called me on before. Let's put this in perspective. I can order dinner to my door in two taps -- Reorder, Apple Pay, done. A stranger drives hot food across town on the strength of my thumbprint. But dropping off dogs these people have known for three years apparently requires a signing ceremony and a fresh liability waiver every single visit. In 2026, that's not caution. That's a business that's forgotten how to trust its own customers. And then there's the membership -- the crown jewel of contempt. They took a system that worked and actively torched it. Gone are the daycare credit packs: fair, flexible, buy-what-you-need, the way a business treats people it respects. In their place, a pricier monthly "membership" that auto-drafts your card whether your dog walks through the door or not, with no rollover for the days you paid for and never used. Read that again: you pay, they keep it, your dog gets nothing, and they call it a perk. It's not a membership -- it's a standing withdrawal from your bank account with a bow on it. It punishes the exact people who kept this place in business: the regulars whose lives don't run on a fixed weekly schedule. Some months my dogs come once, some months five times, because that's how actual life works -- and this program is built to make sure I lose either way. It doesn't serve pets. It doesn't serve owners. It serves a spreadsheet, and it treats every loyal customer as a recurring charge to be maximized rather than a person to be valued. It is, top to bottom, the most openly hostile "loyalty" scheme I've ever been asked to fund. When customers spend more time signing forms and fighting your billing than petting their dogs, you're not a pet resort -- you're a law firm with a kennel attached. Take your pets somewhere that still remembers what the word "customer" means.
