Nancy Dryden at Doggie Do Right is an absolute gem. She trained my first Lab in 2005, my second Lab in 2007 and most recently a new Lab in Feb. 2017. All 3 of my dogs turned out to be such great dogs because of Nancy. They became good on a leash (no more pulling me!) and of course could sit, lay down, stay and come. The first two dogs did a basic obedience class and the third dog (a rescue) did some basic obedience with a focus on two behavioral issues. The biggest surprise to me was that even though she did not do the advanced off leash training, my dogs became really great off leash on trail hikes and in the dog park. I think because Nancy taught the dogs and me to speak the same language, we became more in sync. I guess the basic commands and knowing when and how to use them, the dogs got used to listening to me inside and on leash so it somehow naturally extended to off leash. I cant say they are perfect off leash, but if/when they start to do something 'bad' like chasing a deer or playing too rough with another dog, I can quickly and easily correct and get the results I want!!
Nancy really gets to know you and your dog before she begins a training program. For the behavioral issues with which I needed help, we recreated the environment so she could see the problems first hand. Interestingly, Nancy corrected the dog on the spot and my dog listened to her. Nancy taught me how to do it too. She really is amazing. Another surprise is that I did not have to turn my house into a military academy to get results. About 15 minutes a day at first then it becomes habit. It takes less time than it did previously to get the chaos under control. Also, I was worried that my dogs would lose their silly, goofy personalities with serious training, but in reality the dogs are still crazy and funny as ever, but now they listen to me when necessary instead of only listening when they want to. I am no longer frustrated and can just enjoy our time spent together.
I have done Doggie Do Right day classes (for the first two dogs) and then the boarding training for the third dog. Both are good options depending on your needs and price range. Nancy is not a snooty trainer wed to her own style. She listens to what her clients need. She trains regular dogs and therapy dogs. Well worth every penny to have had 3 great dogs.
