we bought a guinea pig fromnthe shakopee location, and as the lady lifyed it out of its enclosure it squirmed and she dropped it pretty far back onto the cage. and 12 days later after it had some foot issues, it died today. this woman was awfully annoying too. I love this PetSmart. I usually see the same staff, which is nice, they are always well-stocked, the store is clean, and I especially appreciate their grooming salon. The groomers have always been so sweet with my dog and they're usually available for a walk in nail trim. I think their grooming packages have amazing prices as well! read more

There is one employee here in particular that I am fond of. when I go to this location he always tells me to say hello to my pets from him. Especially when I spend a lot of money (which I have 3 dogs a cat, a turtle and some fish so I frequently spend a lot of money there) tells me: make sure and tell your pets hello from me. This location seems to be taking heat. I am not seeing why. I do not get my dog groomed here and i see that some people had issues with that. As far as the store goes, it is clean and the staff seems to approach you to see if there is anything that you need to find. I have been here at least a half-a-dozen times with all good experiences. I have recently noticed that some of their pricing seems higher than others so i am going to watch that a bit closer. My dog is spoiled so i do visit may pet stores to make sure that I have what she needs. My baby. The animals and cages here seem to be kept well. I grew up on a farm and worked in a pet store so i do have plenty of animal love and experience too. We love our furry family members. Have a great day walking your dog. Do not bring your dog here to be groomed. My usual groomer was booked out for months in advance, so I decided to bring my dog here for the first time. Because of her matting I asked them to shave her and clip her short. They charged me an additional $15 for matting which I am not quite sure why. Instead of charging me the extra to have her brushed out and clipped a little short, I came back to pick up my dog who I did not recognize at all. They clipped her right down to the skin. I have never had her shorter than 1/4 inch. She was bright red and looked like she had been burned all over her body. All night long she was shaking violently and biting herself. I ended up calling my vet the next day who suggested I give her benadryl and rewash her to get any products off that had been used. My dog literally looks like she has been sunburnt. I am not sure what they did to her, but her pain has continued for several days afterwards. I will never step back inside this store ever again. Take the drive to Eden Prairie where they actually treat your dogs like family and not like animals. read more

I've been getting my dog Sammi groomed here for about 5 years. Today I had her booked for the Top Dog groom again and had my daughter drop my dog off. They asked my daughter if my dog experiences "seizures". My daughter didn't understand the question and answered yes because Sammi was poisoned over 5 years ago and had a seizure as a reaction to being literally poisoned. This was an ACUTE reaction by my dogs body. The groomer said that because of this my dog needed an "express" groom which they did not have time for. So my dog has no more of a chance of getting a seizure today than she did the first 10 times I brought my her here, but now they decide she does? This place is nuts, I'm skipping Petsmart altogether at all locations. Supposedly there is a new policy about asking about a dog's medical history and seizures. There is either a problem with Petsmart policy or this store does not know how to interpret the new policy. We all want to protect our pets and understand special care is necessary for seizure prone dogs, but this is and never was the case. They lost a customer for good, I will never go here again! If I could give this review zero stars, I would. I have had wonder experiences every other time I have gone to this location, for dog merchandise. The cashiers and helpers on the floor are, for the most part, friendly and helpful. However, this last call put me over the edge. I recently adopted a guinea pig from the Shakopee location, and was excited to bring him home. But it hasn't even been a month since I adopted him and he already passed away yesterday. Today I called and asked if there was anything that could be done. The manager of the pet's department was completely rude and snarky when answering any questions I had for her. They have a 14 day return policy on animals, which I completely understand, but I was not aware of this at the time that I had called, and she was very rude when answering me. Instead of a simple, "I am so sorry to hear about your animal, unfortunately there is a 14 day policy and you are over the policy time limit", I was given a rude answer about how over her rules she was and she made it seem like I was stupid and should already know everything. It was my fault for not reading the form before I signed it, however I was not informed at any point during the adoption aboutthe 14 day policy, and so making it seem like I am dumb when letting me know is not okay with me. At the end of the phone call I said "Thanks, I guess" and she chucked and hung up on me before I could finish my sentence. I will never buy an animal through this location again, I will continue to purchase merchandise like dog food and toys because I have had better experience with the front of the store, but I suggest you do training on customer service when handling situations like this. I hope the little boy I saw excitedly walking out with his newly adopted guinea pigs the other day does not have to go through what I did, and that his live a long and healthy life unlike mine. read more

Don't write a lot of reviews, but just saw this store had a bad rating and figured I had to write one.... This is my go to place to bring my dog for when he gets groomed. They do a great job. Staff is always very friendly and store is always clean. Any where else around in this area is definitely more expensive too. I had been bringing my 9 lb chi-weenie here for over a year. Satisfied, but watchful, with getting her nails grinded (not clipped because they said she fussed too much) until May 7th, 2017. I will NEVER go back there again. It was approximately 5:30 pm when I brought her in. When I walked into the salon area there were two employees. One acknowledged me, was friendly, and checked me in. The other one was standing at the back of the salon eating crackers and had a look on her face like she did not want to be there. She said nothing while looking at me with an attitude. ( Found out later why?) I should have turned around and left but my dog needed her nails done and I wanted to give Little Miss Attitude (LMA) a chance. A decision I will regret for a very long time. I trusted them to be respectful, do their job well, and cause as little more stress to my dog than she was already under. What they did made her stress level infinitely worse. I left the salon area and walked around the store. Didn't find anything so I went to the register to pay. I looked back in the salon and to my horror say LMA forcefully, with an open hand,repeatedly bopping my 9 lb dog on her head. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Protective like a Mama Bear mode kicked in. I left my bag, wallet and card on the register counter, barged into the salon and with an obvious amount of rage in my voice asked LMA if that was a calming technique she was using. She simply stated, "Yes". Like what she was doing was no big deal. I glared at both of them and asked how close they were to being done. The friendly one informed me that not only was only one back paw done but also that my dog had urinated on her and tried to bite. As professionals, which they obviously are NOT, they should have stopped, called me in, and admitted to not being able to finish because of the obvious amount of stress they were causing my dog. Did they? NO! I stopped them. I sternly told them they were DONE! Big chains care about money, not the animal. Get this job done no matter what it does to the animal. SICK!! I collected my stuff, my dog, and left. I noticed a small bag attached to my leash was missing so I stormed back in and demanded to know where it was. The friendly one handed it to me along with a bunch of apologies. Not a word from LMA. Apologies meant nothing after what they did to my dog. Later that evening when I went to take my dog out she was scared of getting her harness put on. Makes me wonder how they used her harness against her. You have to hurt a 9 lb dog to make the company money? SICK!! The second to worst part about all of this? The next day I went in to talk with a manager and she defended their actions. The "calming technique" was in fact an attempt to distract her from what they were doing to her. Really? And apparently, from what the manager told me, LMA was supposed to leave earlier that day but she ended up staying late. I don't care! Not my or my dogs problem! So that gives her the right to take it out on my dog? She is lucky I didn't take my anger out on her! I am disgusted by all of this. I will NEVER shop at petsmart again. There were a few good employees there but based on how the manager seemed to care more about defending her bad employees than being concerned about the bad treatment my dog got I can no longer support a money over animal business. I can happily report that my dog is doing much better. I found a local place where I was allowed to hold my dog in my arms, which helped immensely with keeping her calm, while the employee CLIPPED AND GRINDED her nails in LESS time than it took petsmart employees to grind them. The employee was calm, professional, had positive energy, and was obviously concerned about the welfare of my dog. I feel much better knowing there are places of business who actually mean what they say when they are in the animal care business. Not the money hungry business. read more

If I could rate this location no star I would. We bought at 75 gallon tank with combo package. Brought it home fill it with water and waited for chemical to dissolve before we could fill it with fish. The tank started leaking and flooded the house. We left the tank in the garage waiting to see the problem was and found out the seal around the corners was probably defective. We brought the tank back and date sold was less than 3 weeks and the manager refuse to return the item stating the tank is old. WTF the tank was bought through Petsmart less than 30 days old. If this tank was old then why the hell would they sell it to us. I was furious and took the tank home along with the lightning system and contact the corporate of Petsmart. Anyhow this is bad customer service and Petsmart should stand behind their product regardless what happened. I've spent a lot of money here and they just lost my business because they don't want to admit the tank they sold was defective. Please dont spend your money here, the management team are ignorant and unprofessional. I own my own business and this is not how customers should be treated. read more

We just got back today and were there to get an African Dwarf frog and had a negative experience. The lady who got the frog from the tank for us was really not sensitive to the frog. Considering it is a pet store we definitely expected more caring behavior and she was really rough with the net around the frogs and fishes and could have got them injured. Also she kept the water bag right near a cat. Overall a good store but sure can find employees who really are into animals and care and not consider this as a grocery store. read more
