"Dogs have masters; Cats have staff." - Unknown.
Truer words have never been spoken. No matter what role you play in your pets life (including birds! don't forget the birds!), Bone Marche will certainly meet the standards of the pickiest eater.
Be warned, though: You will not find 'Chow' or 'Kibbles' here. You won't find the popular name-brand cat litter either; although the main grocery store does carry Tidy Cats.
This store follows the same lead as many specialty pet food stores in the area, carrying pet foods specifically designed for an animals dietary needs, and the personal proclivities of their owner. High-Protein/Fat combos, Omega-3 enriched, Grain Free/Soy Free/Preservative Free foods line the shelves for cats, dogs, and even our winged, feathered friends. Blue Wilderness, Wellness, Solid Gold and Blue Buffalo are some of the foods you'll find.
I have to admit, I consider(ed) myself a "healthy pet food aficionado" after a myriad of trips to the co-op to window shop pet foods before I adopted my cat. Bone Marche goes above and beyond with its brand selection, carrying several very specific foods (one was tailored for over weight cats and dogs) I've never seen anywhere else. Certainly a place to window shop for those who want their cats or dogs to eat the very best.
Fear not, raw-diet enthusiasts. You no longer need to pay expedited shipping on prepared raw foods for your cat or dog. They have 3 freezers FULL of raw food for cats and dogs - Including Rad Cat among others.
Ultimately, I would have given Bone Marche 4 stars had it not been for the extremely knowledgeable staff member working- I believe her name was Becky, and she deserves some honors here. Becky was beyond informed about everything in the store. I told her I fed my cat a specific brand of cat food, but was wondering about the future in the advent I need to switch foods to feed to 2 cats of different weights. She had all the answers. She began to explain the different fat and protein contents, and asked if my cat had any dietary restrictions or medical concerns. She even showed me a section that had cat foods specially designed to support blood-sugar concerns, explaining it fell lower on the glycemic index. Ultimately, she sold me on a new wet food I didn't know about. Nice!
When I asked about cat litter, she told me Tidy Cats was in the main grocery area, but that they sold several types of cat litter. So get ready for it: Wheat, Corn and Wood Clumping. Oh my. That's a bit much for me. But she showed me a clumping clay litter, no odor or dust, and I was sold.
Don't let the word play of Bone Marche fool you, this place is not inexpensive. In conjunction to the large selection of specialty foods, they have specialty toys, treats and outfits for cats and dogs. I spotted a $100 memory foam animal bed.
You get what you pay for, and may pay more than you're used to.. But what won't we do for our pets?
