I have been stopping by the pet store about once a week for a few weeks now. I always run in and get treats for puppy class which is located next door at Canine Coach. Every time I have gone in the store it is clean, well organized, the staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. Before our puppy class on St. Patrick's Day, I went to Petco and Petsmart looking for a green bandana for our dog Guinness to wear. Both stores didn't have anything and I couldn't find anyone to help me and I left frustrated. As we pulled up to class, I decided to run in really quickly to see if Petropawlis had anything. I was greeted right away with a friendly smile and the woman helped me. They didn't have any green bandanas at the moment but she said the groomers might. She went out of her way and ran over to ask. She came back with two super cute bandanas with shamrocks on them. I was so excited and really appreciated all her help! Guinness got a lot of compliments at class and the dog park and it would not have been without the help I got at Petropawlis! read more

The first time we went in here was great! The woman with great curly hair helping us was super friendly and informative about all their products. We ended up buying a new brand of dog food based on her recommendation and our dog loves it! It's a pricey spot but we went back because we liked the service and its local. Our second visit was our LAST. The man at the counter barely greeted us. We found the same bag of dog food and some treats, put them on the counter, he started to ring us out and then the guy takes a personal phone call, stops ringing us out and we stood there for almost 10 minutes while he was on the phone... I was hard pressed to find someone to watch my pup while I ran errands; thankfully Petropawlis was right down the road and able to watch Dexter for a couple hours. I was glad Dexter was able to run around and not be locked up while I was busy. I know he also likes going here because he usually gets treats and/or a new toy whenever we leave. We just moved to the area and were looking for a good groomer for our Lagotto Romagnolo dog. This is a rare breed and not a lot of groomers know how to groom them properly. We have had a lot of disasters with grooming our dog because of this. When we met with the groomer at Petropawlis, he said he had experience with the breed, which put my mind at ease. When we picked up our pup we were happy to see the groomer had done everything we asked, and our dog looks great! Bonus points for the bandana, which our dog loves! Another cool thing about this place is they have a full store inside so we were able to pick up a bag of Fromm's dog food. The only negative (which isn't a deal breaker) is the cost for the groom is about $10 more than we are used to paying - but seems to be the going rate for the area. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful. We will be back! read more

I needed advice on what to feed my puppy who suddenly stopped eating her Taste Of The Wild. I did some research online first, then called Petropawlis to make sure they carried the brand I had decided on (Fromm's). When I showed up, the worker remembered talking to me hours earlier on the phone and he walked me through all of the different varieties of Fromm's and he gave some suggestions. I left with a bag of Chicken a la Veg and for the first time in weeks my dog ate her dinner without me having to resort to hand feeding. Cute shop, great selection, awesome service. read more

I was told to check out this great spot for a doggy daycare & boarding in the Walker & Lake area... I came upon Petropawlis. Cute store front and decided to check it out. it is kinda confusing as it appears to have 3 glass door entrances, but is actually one big long store. I soon realized they were not open so I took a pic of their hours and walked away. A guy came out and said can I help you? I told him I was interested in learning more about them, but I see they are closed. He seemed confused and asked me again what i needed. Not rocket science, just a potential custOmer. All the lights were on and it looked open so I said I was just going to peak at their facilities to see if I would be interested in bringing my dog there. He was so rude. I won't be coming back I assure you. If you're CLOSED, but see a potential new customer, you can pop out to make a connection in hopes of not losing business, but if you're gonna be rude, STAY INSIDE. read more

We love them! We bring our dog twice a week! She is tired and happy when we pick her up at the end of the day! This is a small business owned by St Louis Park locals, they are my neighbors in fact! (we found that out after we started going there). They always let us know how the day went for our dog and if there were any bright spots or concerns. They offer to cut her nails for $10 when she needed it and they can take special instructions if needed. Great hours for doggie daycare, too...7am-6pm! I highly recommend them, if you can find a day when they have space, call ahead! read more

This is the worst grooming company I have ever been to! Please do not send your dog here. It was our first visit and my poor little puppy ran out of the store and wouldn't even let the groomer touch him again, he has been groomed multiple times before and has never had that reaction. He is an Australian Shepherd and I asked them to trim his hair and shorten it for the summer, they took that as shaving my dogs hair INCLUDING SHAVING HIS UNDER COAT (not recommended for this breed). The shave is uneven and all the way to the skin in some areas. It makes me sick looking at my dog wondering how much pain he went through at the salon. Their reaction was terrible as well, their response was to argue and talk over me disagreeing with what I was saying. I'm disgusted with this company and their customer service. read more

I've always had a good experience here. It's small and has the local feel. Lots of products that are reasonably priced and hard to find elsewhere. My favorite thing I buy there is the Ziwi Peak Lamb and Mackerel food/(treat). My dog loves it. Haven't used the other services they offer yet but I'm sure I'll try the grooming at some point. read more

Do not board your dog here! I just picked up my one year old lab after getting back from Maui. I chose to board my dog here because of the reviews on Yelp, but I am seriously regretting it. First of all when I dropped my dog off, the owner (I assume he is the owner because he has been there every time I've gone in) was extremely rude to me. He accused me of "giving him attitude." Then today when I picked my dog up, he had deep splits in the pads of 3 of his four paws and some sort of sores on both of his elbows- which they did not tell me about, I saw them when we got home. I will be taking my dog to the vet on Monday to see if there is anything else going on what we can do about his elbows and feet. I am also going to call the humane society and ask their advice on who to report this to so no one else's pet has to go through this. read more

I want to thank the owners and other daycare workers for being so kind and thoughtful to me and my pup, Sabrina. Sabrina is a very energetic puppy and they understand puppy energy and give me updates on her when I pick her up for daycare. I also boarded Sabrina for a few days while I had surgery and she was so well cared for during that time and I knew I didn't have to worry. Jeremy was helpful to me in getting Sabrina in my car prior to and after I had my surgery. Now that is an example of why we should support local businesses! My only complaint is that they are full at daycare during the week. :( So sad. read more

Not typically one to leave reviews. But I was already skeptical about this place because a few other people mentioned that Jeremy was kinda rude. I blew it off thinking maybe they "started it" but I called and left a voicemail today, I believe I was rather polite, we'll I got a call back and he introduced himself with such a awful tone. He sounded so very catty. He immediately said we're not available and we won't be. He did offer to call when something came available but he made it sound like it was highly unluckily. I said "indefinitely? Today? Can I schedule for next week or? I understand if you're busy today and stuff." And he was like no we're scheduled out until January... not that I could see it but I could feel the eye roll through the phone. This place may be great for dogs, but don't bring your cat here for grooming. The man working the register (who I believe owns the place) was rude and not helpful. He decided to give us a lecture on our cat being "overweight". I explained she is a large breed (ragdoll) and that our vet (who specializes in cats) said she was totally healthy one week prior at her visit . He seemed to "know best" which is annoying and misleading for pet owners. Unprofessional and inexperienced with cats in general . I recently boarded my puppy overnight at Petropawlis. SHE LOVED IT!!!! The play rooms are brand new and incredibly cute. The facility is clean and welcoming and the sleep areas for the dogs are quite large. I really felt good about leaving my pup there, which is rare! Petropawlis has a store and offers day-care, boarding and grooming. Jeremy (owner) was incredibly helpful, friendly and knowledgeable on the various products. My experience was wonderful and will without a doubt be back. I would HIGHLY recommend Petropawlis to anyone. Tons of great top of the line dog products and a lot of variety! They've got everything, toys, grooming products, food, all of the top brands, harnesses/collars/leashes/bowls/beds/training aids. I live a few blocks away and occasionally use the daycare service. I always want to support neighborhood businesses but every time I've used Petropawlis there seems to be an issue. One time when I picked up my dog they commented on how thirsty he was that he was drinking from their bucket of mop water - my mother picked him up and told me, otherwise I would have inquired as to why they even had mop water sitting out where dogs could get it and why there weren't dishes of water for the dogs to drink or someone supervising. Today (Saturday) I brought him over last minute to see if they had room for him for a few hours while I got my hair done, and they did, which was great so I didn't have to leave him at home on the weekend! When I went to pick him up, the guy who rang me up (who I believe is the owner) was so rude and passive aggressive saying I should call first. I was completely thrown off and thought he meant before I pick up but he meant to call ahead before dropping your dog off. I understand capacities, but it had seemed like a non-issue since they had room and if they hadn't I would've just brought my dog back home. I told the owner that and that it had been somewhat last minute, but he kept insisting I call beforehand in the future. I think this is fine, but the lack of flexibility and subsequent rudeness will keep me away from here unless I have exhausted all other options. Luckily, I have another convenient, flexible, and friendly option close to my home and work - Camp Bow Wow. Bonus: they have cameras to check I on your dog and have never let my dog drink from a pail of cleaning water. read more

I posted a review in August 2020 and Jeremy just responded today, January 17, 2021. He accused our then 11 month old puppy of biting another dog in August. He also accused our pup of humping another dog. Just three days earlier, as I picked up the dog from daycare, he said the dog was humping. I told him I'd be happy to take him elsewhere but he declined and said to return. Then he gave us the boot three days later after accusing our pup of biting another dog. We asked at the time for proof that he bit another dog and info about the dog and its owner. He NEVER responded until today, 1/17/21, five months later. Meantime, our now 16 month old pup is ready to test for his Canine Good Citizen certificate and has been to two other dog daycares with zero issues. Our pup was bred by a breeder of 40 years who specifically bred him to be mild mannered. He has never been aggressive with another dog or a human. read more

What a great place to get my dog's hair done. I have gone to two other places and they shave my Coton-De-Tulear down to the skin, because they always say she was too matted to do anything else. I love Petropawlis and so does my dog, Walter! We bring him there twice a week for daycare and boarded him there last weekend. The owners of this great local business are patient, caring, and true dog lovers. I know Walter gets great care there. They have been so flexible and helpful with him (he's a rescue who sometimes needs a little extra attention or special accommodations). This is a great place! I've brought my dogs here a few times especially my Cavalier King Charles who needs grooming done more often. I have been taking my 14 year old Lhasa Apso to be groomed at Petropawlis for a year. They were great about putting her on a wait list and always getting her in sooner than I expected. The staff is so kind and she always looks so good after her appointment. Having the retail store is great for picking up food/treats for my dog and cats when I pick her up. I just went to check out this place before committing my dog to it for the weekend. The employee reluctantly allowed me to see one (3) kennel room but I was not allowed to see the play area or any other potential kennel areas. NO WAY IN HECK I'm going to stick my dog in a boarding facility that will not show me the conditions under which she will be kept. For that reason alone I would not recommend Petropawlis. read more

The owner is unhelpful and completely uninformed about the products he sells. I went here to exchange a Lupine leash and he told me that it was not Lupine;'s policy. I used to work at a store that sold Lupine and have exchanged several leashes without a problem. I then had to spend money on a leash that I did not want and will only use until I can exchange the Lupine leash elsewhere. The owner also took his sweet time to ask us if we had help then when he would not take the leash he laughed at the chewed one. Dude seriously!? We are now out like 30 bucks and you think that funny thanks a lot. Will not go back very obnoxious owner. read more

Took my dog here for grooming and was very happy with the results. Met the groomer beforehand, talked through what we wanted & they kept her not nearly as long as the chain places would (e.g. PetCo). We will be taking her back for her next grooming appointment! read more

We have been getting our mini golden doodle groomed here for 3+ years. Jeremy is wonderful to work with! They do one dog at a time so a typical grooming is 2 hrs for us, much shorter than most places. Because of this, dogs are not crated waiting their turn. Our dog has anxiety and does not do well in crates/kennels. She loves her groomer (we get the same one each time) and always leaves happy with a great groom/nails well done. We have moved farther away but it is worth it to us to drive back for grooming every ~6 weeks. Highly recommend giving it a try and supporting this adorable local place/family. read more

I am not happy with this facility. Something important came up and i had to leave my pet for 3 nights at a pet boarding facility. Now typically i use the services of the Animal Humane Society, however being a long weekend all the reputed places were sold out. I had no recourse but to leave my pet at Petropawlis. I am typically careful about where i leave my pet. So a few days before my departure i dropped by to look at the facility, interview the owner and fill out any paper work that may be needed. When i asked one of the owners (male), why he opened a pet boarding facility, he answered stating that he has taken care of a dogs in the past and so thought of opening a business. I did not see or hear anything that reflected a passion for animals. He was very terse. That gave me an uncomfortable feeling to start with. Since i had no options, i left my pet at Petropawlis, hoping that my feeling was wrong and, that everything will be alright. Upon my return, the owner tell me "btw" my pet had diarrhea that morning and she has some bite marks on her neck from playing with another dog! Initially i thought that they may be scratches that dogs sometimes get from playing rough. However once i got home and examined my pet closely, i noticed two areas, one on her neck and the other on her torso with bite marks that were healing. If that was not all, a small chuck of skin was also missing from the base of her right ear. Previously, when i had interviewed the owner, he had said that there was always someone monitoring the animals. I wonder if that was true how did it come to this? At the moment I am very closely monitoring my pet and will take her to a vet asap to make sure she is fine. I will NEVER AGAIN use Petropawlis. read more

This is an update from when I initally wrote a review as a new puppy owner. The puppy is now a dog and her favorite place still remains Petropawlis! I recently remodeled my home and Alex( the dog) had an extended stay here. Once again the entire staff did an execellent job with Alex and treated her as one of the family. They were flexible on requests/needs and treated her as their own pet. They continue to exceed my expectations. And yes, I still get the sad eyes from Alex when she doesn't get to go play with her friends at Petropawlis every day (I still take her 2x week). read more

We stopped in today for the first time to buy some dog food, we have a hard time getting our pup to eat.....we have tried many types of dog food. The owner was very knowledgeable and he recommended that we try NutriSource, which is actually cheaper than the brand we were using. What impressed me the most was that he told us that if our Dog does not like the food, he would take the bag back and give us our money back or allow us to try something else.
