Not only is this store located in a very pretty and interesting building, it was very bright, open and full of fully landscaped aquariums with plants & fish everywhere. As soon as me and my friends walked in we were approached by an employee immediately. My friends went to look around and I asked a few questions. The employee gave me a lot of good answers as well as recommendations and items that might interest me in the store. The store is extremely well stocked, with items I've only been able to find online before. Me and my friends had a ton of fun looking at the tanks around the store and I good some great inspiration looking around. I got a few items including a snail trap (another item I've only seen online!) and the cashier was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the shop. The store below even had an enormous reef tank installed and maintained by the store employees. It is always a wonderful experience coming to a store where everyone is so passionate about their craft, and I can't wait to come back

I love this place!…read more You know how your kid bugs you for a fish tank and promises to take care of it only to lose interest as soon as the first pair of guppies dies? Well, that was me over 50 years ago except I never lost interest. I've been keeping fish and visiting fish stores around the country for my entire life. The people from World Of Fish who started RiverShore Aquariums have done a great job. Located not far from the original World of Fish, RiverShore has clean tanks, friendly and knowledgeable staff and they are super keyed in on planted tank setups. These days my tanks are relatively simple just to keep things easy, rocks and driftwood mostly, but I've been wanting to do a planted tank for a while. I know the basics but had some questions on substrate, plant selection and lighting for what is basically going to be a freshwater nanotank. The staff person who helped me was super knowledgeable, answered my questions and gave me some good advice for getting started. They had a good selection of different kinds of gravel as well as an assortment of driftwood and rocks. I liked that they have a table where you can do a little aquascaping trial and error before you make a final selection. The fish were high quality and appeared healthy. Most were smaller species suitable for planted tanks. I even discovered a new species that I had never heard of - anchor catfish. Super cool and perfect for my little nanotank. I know enough about fish and have been to enough fish stores to know which ones are really good. Rivershore is at the top of the list if you live in the Twin Cities, and especially if you're interested in giving planted tanks a try. Even if its plants aren't your thing or you are new to the hobby, I'd checkout Rivershore for your first aquarium.

Get two replacement albino corys (catfish) for my aquarium…read more One of the employees - an older middle aged lady gave me some line of "before we can replace any fish, we must have a water sample, but I'll make an exception this time". The policy on their own Petco fish bag states: it's "recommended" not "required " to bring a water sample in when getting a fish replacement. Apparently this woman makes new policies "on the fly" for Petco. There was a new employee, a younger woman, was very cordial and said she was learning about fish. When a person doesn't know something, admit it! Don't lie and attempt to "BS" the customer (who may know a lot more than you do) I really appreciated her honesty. The original gal who sold me the B & W cory these two replaced, left a few weeks ago. She was very knowledgeable about aquatic life. One of the replacement corys died a day after I put into the 20 gallon tank. The living one is fine except for a disease it carried in. I have a diatom filter in the larger tanks backed up by a UV light. When I got the two cory catfish, there was a little bit of gravel in the bag. "Ding-dong" me, violated a rule of transferring fish. NEVER dump the water from a foreign tank directly into another tank. I was in a hurry and it's my fault I violated this rule. (Why does this "rule" exist? Because diseases and unwanted things can transfer into the new tank . What was in the gravel was a small black devil snail. I do NOT have any snails in my tanks nor do I want any. AND the second living cory ended up acting strangely. The Petco tank had a parasite infection in it. (I went back and observed the fish to possibly buy some saltwater fish for my 150 gallon saltwater tank. How do I know it came from Petco? Because I quarantine any new fish for a week in the 5 gallon before letting them into the intended tank. I will NEVER buy anything from this Petco location ever again. It's staffed by people who don't know much and the turnover seems to be high. (For whatever reason) Why did I come here in the first place? I've driven by this business many times, have never stopped in, thought I'd try it a couple months ago. If your doing it buy fish for your tank, or a new tank setup, research it carefully, and go to a place which is knowledgeable. I don't like leaving less than favorable reviews- I'm just conveying an experience I had. My suggestion is to go to a place - a local business which specializes in aquariums like "River Stream" or "Aqualand" which may have slightly higher prices, but they have staff with a plethora of knowledge. This big box store I've found is like going to a warehouse store for less expensive (sometimes) pricing for many of the same products. IMHO, If you know what you want don't expect knowledgable help. IMHO, I'd go to a different big box per shop rather than this one. I've noticed the Petsmart in Richfield has local events and fairly knowledgable people on staff most of the time. ---- I have 2 - 75 gallon aquariums, (freshwater) a 150 gallon saltwater aquarium, a 20 gallon and a 5 gallon aquarium. I've been an aquarium enthusiast for nearly 50 years. ---- Attached is a pic of the Petco bag with their official policy on replacement of fish. Sorry for the poor pic, but one can make out their replacement policy printed on their. Petco bag. - update - 19AUG2025 @2241 CDT I see the customer service people have responded. They haven't answered the question - all they printed was a boiler plate response. This Petco location in my opinion has an employee (a supervisor as she called herself) who makes up rules as they go if you don't believe me go over there yourself and ask for help with their aquatics. What could improve? Get someone knowledgeable about aquariums and fish since you sell them. And have your employee follow your policies without making up rules as she sees fit.

First of all you can't ask a person to put on a mask you have no idea what their health conditions…read moreare. Second I came in yesterday to return a bag of dog food Whole Hearted which is a petco brand. I wish I would've done my research more before I bought this shitty dog food. My dogs feet broke out in a rash and starting losing her. I switched her to taste of the wild within 24 hrs of new food she is popping normal again and her tail is up and proud. What I thought was weird is how one of the employees came up-to to ask me if I was the person returning the food cause of my dogs feet. He kept asking weird questions like do you know what food to get. Why yes sir I do. He asked me another question he shouldn't be asking well did the vet tell you what kind of allergy she has. Ummmm excuse that is none of your business kinda like how it's non of your business why I don't wear a mask. Well this taste of the wild food here is really good. He was there the whole time while I picked out food. I felt highly uncomfortable yesterday with him standing there trying to get all this info out of me. Oh by the way when the dog food says grain free and it says it has lentials in it. It's not grain free!! The grain free on the bag is false advertising. I hope petco gets their shit together before someone comes in there and changes your policies.
