I can't give it a bad enough rating. DO NOT take your animal here for grooming. They nearly cut my dog's tail completely off. It was bleeding, and he went from having a big bushy tail to having no fur left whatsoever. Took our puppy today to get the puppy bath which includes a myriad of services. I went to check her ears last night and they were filthy. Her nails are jagged and they blew dry her hair to give her a part in the middle- she looks like a completely different dog. Although the service is affordable I'm not quite sure what was done for over an hour. I will not be returning. read more

Normal products in the shelves are fine, cashiers are cool, I'm giving a 1 star review for dog training. You learn NOTHING in this class, you don't find out any information in this class that can't be found from a google search. These classes are made for people who have never seen or interacted with a dog before. The teacher of the class got on a soapbox to explain to us how pitbulls are the most loving breed and the people that get attacked by them are at fault and are "very sue-happy". The trainer then went on to say the 2 breeds with the most attacks on people are the lab and golden retriever, and that pitbulls are at the bottom of the list. While that raw data is true, it doesn't take account that there are 10x more labs and golden retrievers, so no duh there are more total bites on humans, THERES 10x MORE OF THEM!! In short: the store is fine, just don't go to the training- you can learn more about training dogs on google, you will get no 1 on 1 time, and the teacher will just tell stories about their life for the whole class. read more

Another solid PetSmart location. Like the one in Fair Lakes, my experience here has been mostly in support of volunteering for Lost Dog and Cat Rescue, supporting the cat adoption fairs in Reston on Sundays. I also come in at least once a week and help care for the cats that LDCRF keeps at this location. Outside of a bit of rudeness from one manager who seemed to be on a power trip (and to be fair, he may not have known I was with the adoption team at the time) the staff at this location is super-friendly. They pay attention to the cats kept there, inform LDCRF if they see any issues, and are generally concerned about their well-being. As for the store itself, it's like every well-run PetSmart - clean, well-organized, and with all of the typical PetSmart amenities. read more

I found the dog food I needed and Izabella carried my purchase to the car. This Petsmart has all the supplies I need and carries big packs of knee bones that my dog likes. There is a pet hotel and all the cute dogs look through the window. The dogs look happy. Lots of fun going there. read more

This Pet Smart is pretty bad. Rude customer service. There is one man there who is friendly and asks if you need help. But other than him, nobody goes out of their way to help you with lifting heavy items or helping you to your car with heavy items. I was there when a young woman fell on the ice outside walking to get into the store. I didn't see her fall but she shouted at me after she had gotten up to watch out. I was very appreciative and am sorry I didn't make sure that she wasn't hurt although I did ask. She explained to someone in the store that they might want to put salt down and that she had fallen while in the cross walk. Although I wasn't paying that much attention, she seemed upset even after explaining what had happened and I don't think they did anything to improve the situation. I will no longer be giving my hard earned cash to this Pet Smart. read more

Staff is friendly and really cares about her and our satisfaction, on more than one occasion they have squeezed us in for a quick touch up in between full grooms. I boarded our two dogs here for 3 days last summer- I would recommend ANYWHERE ELSE instead of this place. One of my dogs is about 2 years old and was very socialized around other dogs and people. After 3 days there, he became TERRIFIED of people, animals, and loud noises. I mean, hides under the bed when a door is shut/something falls, terrified. Also, after staying at this hotel, he developed such anxiety that he started EATING AT HIS PAWS. What the hell does a Pet Hotel do to a dog boarding there that he becomes afraid of everything to the point that he starts chewing at himself?!?! The problem got so bad, he would chew his fur on his paws down to the skin. So, of course, we take him to the vet (which is also in that Petsmart) and they just prescribe him a bunch of medications. No Answers from the Hotel about what they did or anything. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

Very disappointed with my dogs grooming today! I specifically asked them to clean his ears, as they plainly missed doing that last appointment. Not only was he returned to me with still dirty ears, his EYES WERE STILL MATTED! I do not think they actually bathed him! Poor haircut also! I can provide photos of the gunk they left on his eyes! I was disappointed by a horrible experience over New Years: my confirmed reservation was for an 8:30pm check-in on 12/31/2018, but the store closed at 6:30pm. Obviously, the Call Center representative who made the reservation did not recognize that the store would be closing early that evening; but more significantly, no one at the store reviewed the upcoming reservations and caught the error. As a result, I ended up standing in front of a closed store at 8:30pm on New Years Eve, when I had a flight departing at 6am the next morning and the store would not re-open until 9am. After complaining through multiple channels, I finally received a call from the manager, who indicated the store has procedures to ensure a similar error won't cause me or another customer problems in the future. I think very highly of many of the employees at the Reston PetsHotel and have received great service there over many years, and I hope this was a one-time only breakdown that will be prevented from happening again by a fairly new manager at the Reston PetsHotel. read more

I am a regular at this location for my puppy's needs. I have a reoccurring reservation for doggy day camp multiple times weekly and he just loves going there. All staff at the camp are so friendly and caring, gives me a piece of mind that my dog is safe and in good hands. Only downside is they are extremely busy so reservation is always needed, it's very difficult to walk in without any reservation and be able to board your dog. But overall, this is one of my favorite spots for my pup! read more

I came to adopt a kitten and was treated MUCH differently than the other guests there. Firstly, when I approached the worker asking about adopting, he told me that only guests serious about purchasing could see the cats. I informed him I was, to which he responded skeptically with, "...you have the cash?" Why the hell would I come to adopt a kitten if I didn't have the money? And why was I, a young black female, asked this when neither of the two previous white guests were? Not only that, but after waiting patiently for nearly an hour for the two previous guests to play with their kitten, the worker began to grow impatient when I only played with my prospective kitten for about 10 minutes. He asked me again if I were serious about adopting (which I 100% was) and told me that I only had five more minutes, yet never rushed the previous guests who had well over triple my time. Overall, the worker was extremely hostile and rude throughout the entire interaction, yet treated the previous guests with obvious contrasting friendliness and patience. After some thought, I decided that I would not be giving them my business, and adopting my second cat from Fairfax Animal Shelter instead. It is where I purchased my first cat, and the experience was MUCH better than Reston PetSmart. If you are a person of color, I suggest you adopt from another place as well. Reston PetSmart employees display a not-so-subtle prejudice toward their white customers, and it is the not first time I have experienced this from them. read more

I much prefer the Tyson's location over this one. While they always seem to have everything I need here, they don't have the greatest staff in my opinion. They don't always seem to be as willing to help me out or want to answer my questions. I've gone in to ask specific questions before, and left only to have had to look up the answer to that question on the internet. The employees working the cash registers seem to be lacking the proper knowledge or training at times as well. I will no longer take my animals here for any reason. When my husband and I travelled back to our home state on military leave PetSmart was more than willing to take our money (a hefty $400 AFTER discount) to have our dog boarded for 10 days - fully aware of his breed. They even asked about behavioral issues prior to service. After we picked him up, the staff ranted and raved about how good he was at play time and how they loved him because he was so sweet. I placed a call today to inquire about Doggie Day Camp. The guy on the phone said my dog was not eligible to participate in Day Camp due to his breed. Oh, but you're more than willing to take my $400 to board him and allow him into your store to be groomed (around other animals - which also stated he was "such a sweet boy" on his "Pawgress Report"), yet you won't take him for Day Camp for a couple of hours?? Must not be enough money. Lost my business and I'll be sure to make everyone else aware that their measley $25 isn't needed due to breed. Way to go, PetSmart. We just picked our dog up from boarding for two nights. The person we spoke with said that he had been eating "but only pooped this morning." When they brought back our dog, he was significantly skinnier. They brought back his bag of food and it was FULL! So she had clearly lied to me about him eating. Of course, he smelled of urine as well, which means that either the facilities aren't clean, or they are not watching the dogs at all. This isn't the first time I've left my dog here but it is certainly the last. I do not trust a single person that works in their Pet Hotel. read more

I came here this afternoon to drop off my dog for a haircut. I had never been to PetSmart for grooming services before. When I came to drop off my dog, all of the groomers were busy with their dogs. The manager, Jason, acknowledged me and said that he would be with me shortly since he was finishing up a dog. I said okay. As I was waiting, I noticed one of the other female groomers (I wish I knew her name) repeatedly saying "stop" in a stern tone to the dog she was grooming. I also noticed that she was handling that dog's front paw/leg and I am aware that dogs sometimes don't like their paws being touched. She kept saying "stop, stop, stop" to this dog, while pulling on its leg. She continued to groom him and when he pulled his paw away, she said "stop, stop stop" once more while yanking on his leg. She pulled his leg so hard that he dropped to his butt and started crying. I was completely horrified by seeing this. The manager checked me in, and I considered just walking out right then and there. I asked to speak with him privately, and I took the manager aside and told him of what I witnessed. He apologized and said that he was sorry that I had to experience that and that he would address the issue, but I'm not sure if he ever did. After witnessing what I did today, I feel uncomfortable returning to this grooming service. I don't know what happens behind closed doors and seeing that woman treat that dog that way infuriated me. read more

My review is for the petsmart hotel and doggy day camp facility. My dog is a rescue and our vet recommended that we take him to doggy day care a few times a week so he can learn how to socialized with other dogs. After researching several places in the area, PetSmart was the most affordable so we decided to give it a try. It's been almost 6 months and my dog goes about twice a week and LOVES it! The staff is so knowledgeable, friendly and treat him like a king! It's so nice to know that when he's there he is in good and capable hands. read more

I decided to send a mail message to the company regarding the mistreatment of an animal in the store. I saw a very young lady by the name of either Jasmine or Jordan with a child for whom there seemed to have been no parent present within immediate proximity. There was a large snake, I believe a corn snake, in the smallest of the enclosures. The animal was seemingly an adult corn snake residing in the smaller of the enclosures. This J-named girl was showing the snake and she said that she would not touch it because it was "mean" and "aggressive", but encouraged a young child to "go ahead and grab it" or something of very similar meaning. Because I had previously sent a message about the time that the store manager was standing with a group of female managers flirting and thought that was more important than helping a customer, he refused to acknowledge that what this staff member did was wrong and suggested that I seek him out for assistance in such a situation next time I am in the store. Of course, if you had been willing to assist me previously, I might entertain such a notion. However, I am not going to give this "gentleman" (and I use that term loosely) the benefit of a convenience, he was not willing to afford me. I will not be told that I should seek out assistance when you have proven you do not like to assist customers. I am sure he simply wants to protect his reputation among his supervisors by keeping a complaint from being lodged "over his head". I cannot say any more firmly that this location is the worst in the area. Sure, the Chantilly store is filthy and the animals appear neglected, but I suspect that is unintentional based on staffing, labor hours awarded and other variables. Instead at the Reston PetSmart associates seek to intentionally abuse the animals they sell. I do realize that the animals they sell are technically their property so the mistreatment of the animals do not carry the same depth and breadth of liability, but I feel that if you are going to demonstrate that degree of mistreatment and poor judgment with regard to the animals which are easily visible, who knows what goes on in the facilities within this location where your own pet is not apparent. read more

This review is for the PetsHotel. When we left our dog there he had just come out of medication for hotspots on his elbow and hip. We left a spray for him and they assured us that if his conditioned worsened we would be contacted or they would take him to Banfield Pet Hospital. We left for two weeks. One week later we called to check up on him and the person helping us left us on hold for a long time, only to come back and tell us that he was responding very well to the spray and that he was fine. When we finally picked him up he wasn't fine. The hot spots had spread to his both elbows and belly. He seemed to have been shaved. But we soon realized that he was chewing it off because it itched him. PestHotel didn't even have the decency to share this information when we picked him up we realized when we got home.That IS NOT "responding well to the medication" by the way!!!!! His skin was raw and red and even bleeding a little from time to time!!!! What happened to calling us or taking him next door????? When we DID go to the vet, they said that the allergies must have been going on for quite some time. I really wish I could give them 0 stars. read more

I don't even know where to begin. As a former PetsHotel Senior at a different location, the Reston PetsHotel absolutely disgusts me. First and foremost, the customer service is absolutely TERRIBLE. Please keep in mind that I work DOWN THE STREET (not kidding, less than 2 minutes away), and I STILL have to arrive to drop off my dogs 30+ minutes before my shift and MAYBE I'll be on time to work; that is how painfully slow the employees are. And my dogs don't get food, medication, or anything else that would slow down their check in--it's literally just grabbing the dogs and that's it. The hotel manager is the laziest and rudest PetSmart employee I've ever met. There was one instance that I was standing in the lobby (I was the ONLY one in the lobby) with my dogs, waiting to be assisted for over five minutes before she even looked at me, and then she had the audacity to say to me that I need to "speak up and use my words" if I want to be helped. I've also rarely actually seen her help anyone. She'll usually take her sweet time completing the most useless and insignificant tasks (such as finishing her food at the desk) and then ask someone else to help me. Lastly, every single time I pick up my dogs, they come home smelling absolutely horrendous; they smell like a bucket of urine was poured all over them. Like I said, I am a former employee and I completely understand that when dogs play with each other all day, they are GOING to smell bad--it happens. But they should NOT smell to the point that I actually gag and nearly vomit when I pick them up. At least try to clean them. The only reason I continue to take them here is purely out of convenience because it's close to where I work. But honestly, I'm about to wake up an extra 40 minutes earlier to bring my dogs to Chantilly instead. Corporate, please do something. read more

I'm surprised how bad some of these reviews are. I've had a great experience taking my dog to day camp here (and shopping here). My dog loves day care, and all the staff seem to love her. She's been going for two weeks and I've noticed positive changes in her attitude toward other dogs; she's less shy now that she has the confidence their day care affords. Very disappointed to say the least. I had a 1pm appointment for grooming and bath. Came by to pick up my 40lb dog at 5 pm, expecting it would enough time. Wrong, I was told they did the bath and drying, I would have to wait another 20 minutes. I went looking around the store and I noticed they just started grooming my dog for approx 10 minutes. Came by and picked up my Dog and noticed she was still wet. Not good. Never go for grooming again. There's to many groomers in the area, no need to go to Reston for grooming. I have never done a review on Yelp, but we had an awful experience today. The staff was unfriendly and seemed annoyed to be there. I am still kicking myself for not trusting my instincts and leaving. We picked up our 5 month old puppy after grooming and when they brought her out she was whimpering (has never done that, even when we first got her). Then she had diarrhea all over the floor. When we got home, she drank 2 full bowls of water. Do they not give them water there? The grooming job was fine, aside from uneven and random chunks of hair cut around her paws. read more

Took my little 6lb. One year old Morkie here for a full haircut, nails, bath, etc. I had made an appointment with Samantha the day before via web. The haircut looked pretty nice, overall I was happy but it wasn't till later when we got home that my baby started bleeding. She was bleeding so bad I didn't know what had happened to her. When I looked it was coming from her back paw from one of her nails. The lady had cut the nail so short as soon as my dog went up the stairs it had started bleeding. I get my dogs nails done at petsmart salon all the time just because I don't want to do it myself and hurt her so this left me very disappointed and upset. It has never happened before but that's because I usually take her to the petsmart in sterling and the last visit at petsmart in Reston confirmed that I should of never stopped taking her to the sterling location even though I live around the corner from the Reston location. read more

This review is only for the groomers and not for any other part of this Petsmart location. Yesterday, I called Petsmart in Sterling to make an appointment and they were booked up, so I proceeded to check with the Reston location. I asked the gentleman on the phone if the groomer for my dog, Chris, was gentle and experienced because my dog gets anxiety. He reassured me that this groomer is great. So, my boyfriend and I took my 8 lb mixed breed dog to get groomed. About three hours later, and much to my horror, I receive the dreaded call. The grooming manager said that my dog got a small nick underneath his right hind leg near his hip, that he bled a little, they got it under control, took him to Banfield, and the vets were looking at his wound. She told me it was small and this is routine, but she did apologize profusely and said that we would not be charged for the groom or the vet expenses and that we could ask for the manager when we arrived. We ran over there after hanging up. The vet decided the wound needed to be stapled. She gave him a slow release antibiotic that will last about two weeks and pain medicine while he is healing. On top of that, she put four staples to close his wound. The vet techs were wonderful and the vet, Dr. Cabrera (I think that's right), did an excellent job. They asked me about his medical history and medications before giving him anything--which is standard, but was hugely appreciated. The store manager came out to talk to us and my boyfriend expressed our shared frustrations because this is the second time a Petsmart grooming location cut my dog. To put four staples in, someone was not paying attention while shaving him, and this is both unacceptable and inexcusable. The store manager, Tony, apologized many times and listened to my boyfriend--which is good because he was livid. He let us know that he talked to the groomer and discussed how to prevent this from happening in the future, but not sure if he was pulled off the floor or if he will go through further training. He gave us his card for another free groom either at his location or the Sterling location, but I don't think our dog is going back to another Petsmart to be groomed. I give the vet, techs, and the store manager credit for handling the situation, but the grooming service? We never saw our groomer and he never came out to apologize to us. This store is super convenient because I live so close. I've been coming here for nearly 5 years for all my pet supply needs and was accommodated exceptionally until....I recently acquired a ball python. The previous owners fed it live food, and I prefer frozen. During my ordeal with trying to switch it over to frozen (this is NOT easy), this PetSmart seems to have gone out of its way not to help me. I understand the policy of not selling live animals as food, unless it is fish. However, I asked for a handful of dirty rodent bedding on the day they clean cages to thaw my frozen rodent -that I purchased from them- in (the scent helps trigger a feeding response) and was denied rather rudely and abruptly. I'm getting the distinct impression that though they sell reptiles at PetSmart, if you intend to feed them, you should look at another pet supplier that is willing to work with you if your pets feeding habits don't adhere to their policies. Seems they are more concerned with policies than helping those of us that have pets that are picky eaters. I will be taking my large 55 gallon aquarium, 3 dogs and reptile needs elsewhere. I'm not sure why this store exists: it's certainly not to provide excellent customer service. In fact it seems that employees of the store, including the manager, were unknowledgeable about dog toys and what the do or don't have in stock. When I inquired about a toy portrayed on a poster in the store the manager said they don't have it in stock. He said that he would call other stores but I told him that I didn't want to travel to other stores. Instead of offering to have it transferred from another store to this one he just mumbled something and walked away as if I was too much of a bother for him. read more

I made an appointment online for Monday July 29 at 4:30 pm. I received confirmation via email with the date and time. I arrived to the appointment 10 minutes earlier, but was informed that I was late because my appointment was at 4 pm. Although I had an email that proved otherwise, the female employee said I was wrong and told another employee to reschedule me because if they took me I would make everyone fall behind. There were other customers present and she insisted that I was late. I finally agreed to reschedule for Wednesday July 31 at 4:30 pm. An a hour before the appointment, I received a phone call saying there had been a mistake in the booking and that they could not take me. The person I spoke with was very kind and apologetic (although it wasn't his fault) about my situation. He offered to reschedule but I refused. The lack of professionalism displayed by the store speaks very poorly of their customer service. This was my first experience (we are new dog owners) and certainly a terrible one. I just moved to the area within the last few months and have used this store maybe 3 times. The first two times were just for treats/food and the third time was for grooming. I would give this review 1 star if it were just for the grooming department, but I'm giving it 2 because I had no issues with the help I received originally in the store. As for the grooming department: has anyone ever taught them anything about customer service?? Both dropping off and picking up I wasn't greeted when I walked in, even though everyone turned to look when I walked through the door. Upon check in I asked if the woman behind the desk could call my vet to verify my dog's rabies vaccine. I told her I had the number for the office handy but she ignored me. I think she was googling the location, and dialed a number. Turns out she called a different animal hospital. Again I told her I have the number but she ignored me again and finally googled the right location I suppose. I never got a call that my dogs was finished, I just showed up 4 hours later to pick her up. The groomer who had done my dog had already left for the day so who knows how long my dog was sitting in a cage. I had to wait over 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge me standing at the counter. I understand the groomers are all busy, but at least acknowledge my presence and tell me you'll be with me soon. The manager came in not only once but twice, and ignored me as well. She came in to gossip and show the employees some socks she must have just purchased. More people began to walk in, and finally when there were 3 other people waiting besides me someone finally came up to the counter. I got my dog and left. I got home and realized her Seresto collar was not on her and called to see if they had it. Luckily for them they found it, but now I have to drive back there to get it. I will also add that I paid extra to have a really thorough brushing done on my dog as she has an undercoat, and it looks like they barely brushed her. At least she smells good. I'm not sure I'll be using this location for grooming again. read more

My dog looks absolutely no cleaner than he did when I dropped him off. It is hugely aggravating to pay for a service that was not adequately completed. My dog has been going to camp at this location since she was a young pup and absolutely loves it. She wiggles her entire body at the staff whenever we arrive. Everyone there has always been incredibly friendly, helpful, and caring towards my pup. read more

The Pet Hotel at the Reston PetSmart is fantastic and staffed by wonderful people. I boarded my two young cats there over Thanksgiving. One of them started throwing up on the second day and the staff saw that there were bits of plastic and blood, so they tried to reach me and they took him to the Banfield Pet Hospital at the PetSmart (also great!). It turns out he had eaten a strip of plastic before I dropped him off. I was trapped in another state, but they took such wonderful care of him and kept me informed of everything. When we decided an ultrasound was needed and that Banfield couldn't do it because of the holiday, the wonderful manager of the hotel even took him personally to another vet hospital and waited with him for the procedure. He was thankfully okay. I feel so grateful for the kindness and dedication of the staff at the hotel. They put my mind at ease and took such wonderful care of my cat. While I am a big fan of their kindness and attention to my pet needs they do discriminate against cats when it comes to grooming opportunities. I would easily give 5 stars but they do not groom cats on the Weeknd (Saturday) said. This is wholly unfair to our loving fury pets and I for one would appreciate a change. This is all about the buck and not equal service for cat owners. I work to, I need to be able to have my pet groomed on the weekend. I work at a school and get out at 4pm, the only evening they do cats is Wednesday which means I have to speed my way home risking a ticket to quickly pick up my pet and deliver. And now I have been told they can't fit my cat in until a week from this Wednesday. Only ONE opportunity to have my cat groomed while dogs have all the flexible time they can get. This is not acceptable to someone who is a loyal customer. In addition, try to find a cat groomers your area, not likely. read more

So this review has nothing to do with the canine services. My wife and I were in the store attempting to look for some hay and pellets for our guinea pig. One of the things we traditionally do before leaving the store is to walk around viewing the animal cages. I've always been a pet lover, even when it comes to smaller furrier pets. I looked at the guinea pig cage only to notice that they had 7 young pigs in one "cage" with one dome habitat. Usually it's best to have multiple sleeping domes for multiple pigs...think of it like having one dog house for 7 dogs...not the brightest idea. Then I noticed there were gashes on most of the pigs, fur had been bitten off, they looked mangy, etc. I'm not sure if all the pigs are the same gender, as pigs tend to be relatively territorial, gender can matter when it comes to housing them. The pigs started fighting right in front of us. This is not how you keep a guinea pig. I will no longer be doing any business here. If you are going to keep animals, then at least know how to take care of them and what the do's and don'ts are. I know that they are just guinea pigs, and most people could care less, but it's still negligence in my point of view. read more
