I took my dogs here about 4 times for grooming and each time they got it wrong. My dogs weren't matted and I specifically told them the size of hair I wanted but the only way they know how to cut is shaving them down to their bones. It's easy and lazy work for them. Worst ever dog grooming experience -- avoid this place like the plague! If you love your dog (and I'm sure you do), don't even THINK about getting it groomed here. We had brought our adopted curly-haired Portidoodle here and they practically skinned her alive, shaving her hair right down to the skin on her belly - they actually caused some abrasions that must have been painful to our dear dog. Thank goodness her fur eventually grew back nice and full, and we've since gone to a local family-owned groomer who knew exactly how to trim our Portidoodle's fur. I would like to express my frustration with my situation. I have been using petsmart boarding and other services for years. I've never had any complaints with them until now. I left one of my cats in boarding. I got a call from one of the girls that works in that department. She said if I could pick up my cat because he hadn't eaten in 2 days and would likely be taken to the vet at the end of the day if he didn't eat or I picked him up. I told her that I couldn't pick him up. I was working a double shift and said I would pick him up from the vet the next day. We end the conversation but she calls me again in 30 minutes and says the same thing. I still tell her the same thing, we hang up. She then calls my wife to come pick up the cat. My wife says that we only have one car and that it's being used (by me). We mention that we're new to the state and that we don't have friends or family to help. Petsmart employee calls me again after an hour (now it's been 4 calls). I'm upset at this point and tell her to leave the cat at the vet and that I'll pick him up in the morning. Then she proceeds to start harassing me over the phone. I hang up at this point. She calls again and is still harassing me and I hang up. I ask to leave work to deal with this and it was a pain to get it approved. I get to the petsmart to pick up the cat. Same girl is at the counter and she has a smirk in her face that clearly said I won. I tell her to get someone else and that I didn't want her to help me. Takes them 20 minutes to get my cat out of the kennel (not sure why). I haven't said anything because I'm pissed and afraid I'll say something I would regret later. I get the cat and leave. Fast forward 2 months later, my dad dies and I need to leave my dog in boarding. I'm trying to use boarding but my account with petsmart is now banned/locked out. I kept calling to get some help to sort this out. But I wasn't getting any help. I still dont know why my account was banned (to this day). So I get harassed and I stay quiet to now escalate things. But the petsmart employee plays the victim and I get banned. I don't recommend this store in particular. I wouldn't said not to use petsmart. I still like going there and using their services but unfortunately. I can't recommend this store. Hopefully Petsmart will fix my account and listen to what actually happened and not the person who played the "victim". read more

Walked in to try to get my dogs nails done and as soon as I walk in there already telling staff to get a dog away that was in the middle of the store that ether my dog was not good with other dogs witch is a lie if there talking about my dog. Customer service here severely lacking probably due to it being understaffed, especially on the weekends. Every single person looked incredibly miserable and I was rushed at the register. I've worked in retail before, but never have I shown my stress or frustration outwardly to customers' faces like that, especially when the customer did nothing wrong. I get that it gets busy, but you are all customers at other businesses too and I'm sure you'd kind of feel "wtf" about a worker showing an attitude towards PAYING customers like yourselves. Just dropped off my 1st born son for his 1st hair trim that admittedly I was clueless as a new dog owner. The woman that answered the phone was very informational and able to squeeze me in day or without an appointment. Our puppy is extremely skittish still at 4 months but the greeter was compassionate as he got used to the new experience. I was likely annoying with questions in deciding what he needed but the entire staff was providing their knowledge that I'm now better educated on the subject. (Suggest waiting until 6 months for doodles hair to develop & not damage coat). Be cautious about bringing your dog here for playtime or camp. I picked up the family dog from boarding today (7/23/2024) from the Reston location. I was there from approximately 10:45 AM - 11:00 AM. The entire time I watched the group of dogs in the playroom. The female staff member in the room with the dogs did not interact with any of the dogs the entire time I watched. Most of the time she just stood there picking at her fingers. I felt especially bad for one dog who was lying alone in the corner next to the mops and buckets the whole time, obviously not having fun. The staff member didn't even glance at him, let alone scratch his head or give him some kind of encouragement. read more

At this day and age, in the middle of a pandemic rollercoaster - employees shouldn't be allowed to come in if they are VISIBLY SICK or have a bad cold...especially if they are groomers who handle and touch the dogs they are grooming and WHO interact closely with the dog owners. The groomers forgot about her and she was left in a cage untouched and unchecked for 2 1/2 hours. When I checked on her status they seemed confused by her name. When they found her on the appointment sheet they said she would have to sit for another hour because they were busy. They did not offer an apology or any concern about my dog. I spoke with the store manager who said that nothing could be done because the grooming manager outranks him. I was bitten by a dog today at this PetSmart. When I told the owner his dog just bit me twice, he told me he didn't know what I was saying. Not only that, none of the employees came to help. The dog owner did not acknowledge the bite nor did he apologize. I filed a police report and talked to the GM of this store, Armando. Armando told me that because the dog was not under their care (at one of their facilities - groomers, day care, etc) that they couldn't do anything about it and I had to figure it out with the owner even though the incident happened on their store grounds. I then brought up PetSmart's bully breed ban from their day care and that if my dog (a bully breed) bit someone, would we be banned from the store? Armando said he has been with this company a long time now and has never heard of such a ban. On PetSmart's website under their services (https://services.petsmart.com/content/daycamp-requirements#:~:text=Furthermore%2C%20for%20the%20safety%20of,Terriers%20or%20mixed%20breeds%20that), it clearly states: "Day Camp and Group Playtime Requirements Campers must be at least 4 months of age. We cannot accept intact (unneutered) male dogs, pregnant females or females in heat into day camp. Furthermore, for the safety of all animals and associates, we cannot accept dogs of the "bully breed" classification or wolves/wolf hybrids including American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or mixed breeds that have the appearance or characteristics of one of these breeds. Never what so ever I will leave my dog with this irresponsible people!!! First time I had to leave my dog over night. He has never been away from home an owners. He had diarrhea because he got anxious., and what these people do? They waited until past 8 pm on a Friday to call us and let us know that our dog has diarrhea 4 times during the day and that we have two options either get the dog or someone else to pick him up or they will have to take him to the vet. We are 4 hours away and called everyone we know could pick him up but no one could. Last minute on a Friday night no one was available and we have 0 family around. So they went ahead and took him to a pet hospital., it is 12:45 am and they left our dog in a hospital over an hour ago. They told the vet hospital that he has blood in his stool, however they never told us that. The vet hospital called and said they did not see any blood in the exam. This is a situation they could prevent by calling us drunk the day and explain the situation and not wait until 8 pm at night to just have limited options. Now we are worry and can't do anything until the morning to get a friend to go and check because that is the only thing he can do. I will proceed legally if necessary because PetSmart worker Witter are not trained or they simple are low hourly pay people who can care less. read more

They shaved my fluffy bichon without my permission. I would've appreciated if they asked me first. My bichon was not matted, we brush him several times a week and we even brushed him before his appointment. I'm infuriated that they shaved him as an easy way out. I usually take my dog to petsmart Sterling or Reston for grooming. Today I had an appointment at 12 at Reston. I went in, and every was ok till the lady behind the counter came out and started touching my dog like examining her body. This was the first time they did this and I was kind of shocked. when she got to my dog's butt and back legs area, she was pressing her , I don't know what for, and she went off on her. she is not aggressive at all but is very fearful of people hurting her especially around her back. Then they told me your appointment is cancelled and they cannot groom her. she had been there many many times and they were always happy with her being so sweet. I have boarded my dogs at PetSmart for close to 20 years. One of the amenities I specifically appreciated is that they have staff on hand 12/7. I had been reading that certain stores were no longer offering overnight service. When making a boarding reservation for 3/28/24 to 4/01/24, I asked whether Reston PetSmart was still going to have overnight staff and I was assured they did. I also called the Reston Hotel and was told the same thing. When checking in, I asked again and was told that overnight staff had been discontinued as of February 2024. Not only that, but food was no longer included and the exit bath and nail trim ( which I included in my reservation) were no longer offered at the hotel. Appointments had to be made separately through the grooming salon. At that point, with no notice of all these changes that I had not been informed of, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my pet there and made boarding accommodations elsewhere. I will never use the PetSmart Hotel again. There are many boarding options available to me however I have been loyal to the Reston Hotel. Unfortunately, my loyalty has not been reciprocated. read more

Let me just start by saying I use to come to this location multiple times a week. I first took my dog to get groomed and loved it. I recently took my dog back to the same groomer, and specifically asked for the same haircut. When they brought my dog back up to me I was in total shock. She looked distraught and terrible. The haircut was patchy and just hideous. I spoke to the groomer (DARMA) that cut my dog, letting her know how dissatisfied I was and she said "well I cut it the same as last time". I showed her the picture from October and she had nothing to say other than "well you don't don't have to pay for it if you don't like it" then "I can trim her ears shorter" like NO! I never even received an apology. I paid, and left the store. It wasn't until I got home until I realized her back side was patchy, also she must've been under stress while there because she has nausea and diarrhea. I called corporate and they were apologetic and let me know someone would be calling me from the store in 2 days (NO ONE HAS CALLED, still). Anyway, I called and asked to speak to a manager (ARMANDO answered) he was so rude. I let him know what happened never, extended an apology. All he said was that I needed my receipt if I wanted a refund even though he pulled my information up confirming who my dog was. He stated "I'm going to make a note that PetSmart isn't the best fit for your dog" ????? Excuse me?! How is it my fault that your groomer did a piss poor job. I then go to the app to try and make an appointment for next month, and this rude incompetent idiot blocked me from booking a grooming session through the app (corporate confirmed this). The crazy thing about it is this was before I even came back to the store to get my refund. I finally go to the store and talk to another manager Chris. He was friendly and provided great customer service. Armando, as a manager you should be ashamed of yourself and Darma you're just plain rude. read more

Horrible service. They didn't trim my cats hair underneath her paws, but they did cut her whiskers, that means you have very unprofessional staff. You don't cut cat's whiskers. Cat's whiskers are a very important part of their body, as they help cats balance and navigate. Trimming them can cause confusion and distress for the cat. You should make sure that your staff are aware that they should never cut a cats whiskers. read more

I like this Petsmart. They often have things the Fairfax and Springfield stores do not (maybe they are less busy?). Everything is easy to find and they have the standard PetSmart fair: pet grooming, pet adoption, pet hotel, training, Banfield Pet Hospital, among all the various animal goodies for sale. This is a very busy location and parking can be a little bit of pain since there are other stores within the parking lot. This location holds adoption events on the weekends and can sucker any animal lover. I shop here for my cat because this place sells her kitty litter. This is a review for the Pet Hotel/Doggie Day Camp. If I could give a zero I would. We brought in all his vaccines/rabies/neutered paper works for doggie day camp. The person showed us where our puppy would play with other dogs, be kept when not playing and said it's for socializing. She ended up putting in the records that he was not neutered and for doggy day care (no socializing and kept in that caged area) with only 30 mins of play time. Totally not what we signed our puppy up for. Didn't want him alone in a caged area for hours. At pick up they said that's what was inputted And after reviewing documents sent in a manager apologized and gave us the day for free. read more

The team at PetSmart Reston is phenomenal! Everybody goes above and beyond to make sure my dog is taken care of and loved! There are closer locations, but I love this particular branch because of the people. They are always happy to see us and remember us by name. I was getting my pets stuff at PetSmart in Reston when I passed in front of the salon surprised me so bad: the lady who was Trimming a small French poodle and was pinching his ear, the little dog started to cry then she grabbed the dog's neck and yelled at his face two times: SHUTUP!!! That situation put me out of myself and I tried to get help but the manager wasn't there. When I came back to the salon the dogs owner was there waiting for her little dog while another worker told her that her dog was doing great... LIER I talked to her and I explained to her the truth.
