A parakeet with a broken leg left bloody and stuck to a toy.

Let a poor parakeet suffer and remain STUCK to her toy for who knows how long before doing ANYTHING to help her! She was bloody from trying to free herself. No one on staff helped her until customers complained. THEN they moved her to the "back of the store" out of sight and are making her wait for 2 MORE DAYS until they say THEIR vet can look at her. A vet from a local well know and respected hospital (Blue Pearl) who works with birds offered to see her same day but Pet Smart REFUSED! They let her continue to SUFFER instead!

Wrong dog, Wrong Time, Right Day

Petsmart Appt Screw Up 2.19.24 The afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 18th, I went into PetSmart grooming salon to schedule an appointment on Monday, Feb. 19th at 11:30 AM for my dog, Bandit. Vanessa told me that Bandit's appt was all set and she would see me at 11:30 AM the next day. Then I received emails from Vanessa for: Confirming the appointment: 1#. Wrong dog, wrong time, correct day. #2. Wrong dog, wrong day, wrong time (appt. was for 11am on Sunday, Feb. 18th and I received the email on Feb. 18th at 5:03pm SIX hrs after appt. day/time! I called, spoke with Vanessa, told her the appt's were for the wrong dog and the wrong time. She told me to just bring in the right dog at 11:30. I asked for an email confirmation, she said her system would not let her send it. Next I received a cancellation for the #3. right day, right time, wrong dog. Then a confirmation for #4. right dog, right day, wrong time. Then Email cancellation for #5. wrong dog, correct time, correct day! Petsmarts email confirmation indicates 1-2 hrs for appt. I called after 2.5 hrs to see if I could pick her up. Vanessa insisted she told me 2-3 hrs. Received #6. "Bandit is ready to pick up" three hours after drop off (see pic #4 - 1-2 hrs for appt). 7. Appointment emails I received on 2.18 from Petsmart! When I went into Petsmart at 2:40pm to pick up Bandit. Vanessa told me that because I was so difficult to schedule and had an issue with my dogs pick up time being more than 3 hours after the appt, she had gone to her manager and Bandit was not allowed to come back for grooming. Unbelievable. I had moved to KC in July and had taken both dogs before to this Petsmart for grooming with no issues. Maybe 1 out of 15 of my reviews are negative. I could not let this one go without alerting others to avoid Petsmarts mistakes and miscommunication. Vanessa blamed this on ME! Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she is new, but very confused and defensive about the mistakes when scheduling Bandit. I really tried to help her, told her "there is a solution for everything so let's try cancelling the first appt and then reschedule for the right dog, right day, right time", etc.

The store is arranged in easy to find categories. The store is large and the isles are wide. It makes it makes it easy move around the store and it's spacious enough to accommodate multiple shoppers along with their fur-babies. Their staff is excellent, friendly, knowledgeable. They have a huge selection in every areas for the comforts of home inside and out. They have a wide variety of food to treats, collars and leashes to a huge selection toys for play or training. Everything you could possibly need or want for travel. The list of products could go on and on. BUT, I can't end this without mentioning they have an in-store full grooming service. The store I shop at also has an animal hospital. If I could give this TEN STARS, I still don't think that would be enough

Our new rescue looks like a show dog after the furminator at Petsmart in Olathe Kansas.
    Bella H.

The groomers here are amazing and kind. Extremely patient with our newly adopted rescue Shepherd. The furminator treatment is worth every penny. Five years of neglect had left our new rescue in horrible condition. When the groomers were finished, she looked like a show dog.

Marco got a play day outside the animal shelter today to check out the toys and meet some fellow fur babies and their parents in the area. He came all the way to Kansas from South Carolina after the hurricane hit and is available for adoption to a loving home at Unleashed Animal Shelter. Or just stop by to bring him for a walk and a trip to one of his favorite PetSmart stores.

Do NOT EVER purchase a bearded dragon or any other reptile from this location!! We purchased a "fancy" bearded dragon in September 2022 and it was sick when sold to us with an incurable disease, Adenovirus (AVD). It is a highly contagious virous most likely from the vendor they buy from, and dont bother vetting. So now I have a house full of kids devastated that their friend is dying and it's all due to the fact that we were sold it that way. Reached out to customer service, was told that my Olathe location would reach out to me but never had, almost a week out. Who knows how many other families are being heartbroken because of this greedy negligence. I plan on forwarding ALL of my high-dollar vet bills to Petsmart to trust they will do the right thing and reimburse me for the hundreds of dollars spent verifying what Petsmart knew was wrong from the get go. This corporation should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and utterly guilt ridden for selling dying animals. Absolutely gutted. The photo of the dragon attached should be about 3x size and we expect it to die any day now/ NEVER BUY A DRAGON FROM PETSMART. Ever.

Super nice and friendly but not satisfied with service. Groomed specifically what I told them not to and clipped dogs nail back way too far.

It is a typical Petsmart. I do like the fact that they do tend to have bigger supply than other Petsmarts (johnson dr). No complaints.

Now, we've never had such a big dog, and it was clear from the start that Johnny had a great temperament. But, he's big, eager, and was on track to accidentally hurt us or someone else, and we definitely had some moments of "Are we sure about this?". After another frustrating morning, our dog walker told us that we really, really needed to invest in some dog training, so I pulled out the pamphlet our vet had given us and made the call. Ken was very reassuring on the phone and described the program as being all about leadership. We opted for private training, which, not gonna lie, is pricey -- $1,000. But, that comes with all the private lessons you need (we only needed four), a year's worth of follow-up (we can call any time with questions), and an initial package of materials including the training book, Gentle Leader head collar, leash, beanbags, etc. To be honest, it's not so much about training the dog as it is about training the people! Once we started consistently using the tools Ken taught us, Johnny became a happy, well-behaved dog who everyone loves. He is still excited to see people, but he doesn't jump (and on the rare occasion that he does, we have a method to quickly correct him). He knows where he belongs in the "pack" (aka us) and doesn't try to take charge. He walks nicely on a leash. We're able to take him to daycare, where he socializes well with other dogs, and doesn't go crazy when he sees other dogs on his walks. And we easily trained him out of "nuisance barking" at things like the mail delivery. Most importantly, Ken taught us a "magic word" that helps us bring Johnny back if he gets out, which, let me tell you, has come in handy. If you amortize the cost of the training over a ten-year life, that's $100 a year for a dog who is a pleasure to be around and everyone is happy to see. That seems cheap! Given where we started -- incredibly frustrated and stressed out -- and where we are now -- everybody's happy -- I can't recommend GentleDogTraining.com highly enough. Spend the money, put in the time, and get the results!

Karen has a deep understanding of dog behavior, and she has a full toolkit of tips, tricks and techniques to help owners learn how to be an advocate for their dog, and how to work with and shape the behaviors of their dogs in ways that causes minimal stress to the dog while maximizing the results. Whenever we'd describe a behavior to Karen, she could quickly analyze and explain what was going on in Magnus' head. Furthermore, she would instruct us on exactly how to handle the situation in great detail, and she would follow this up with drills to ingrain the right reaction by the owner with very close attention to the fundamentals of dog-to-human communication: voice inflection, pitch and tone; body language, movement, hand placement, grip; cues to reward and commands to help enact a particular behavior. Karen even has an unending offering of tips and tricks to wear your pup out, redirect its attention, etc., even how to teach your furry friend how to disentangle itself from its leash - she taught Magnus in less than five minutes, which was pretty incredible! We think Karen is a first-rate, extraordinary dog trainer, dog handler, dog psychologist, and owner trainer, too! :) If you're in need of some help with your doggy, we highly, highly recommend Karen to you.

I never would have imagined Bernie would be walking next to a stroller or staying calm by lying off to the side when people/dogs pass by but sure enough he's doing it...still with lots of cheese to motivate him :-) Mike helped us get anxiety meds started, which has made a big difference, and has normalized wearing a muzzle! Taking her anywhere is a terrifying experience because we don't know how she will react and if she will spend the next few days avoiding us or refusing to eat. We decided we want to start taking her to daycare occasionally to try to help with her comfort level when we aren't around, especially if we ever have to board her for a weekend. When we brought her to Dogtopia for her interview she was instantly comfortable because of the staff knowing how to handle anxious dogs. We were able to watch on the cameras as she was introduced to the other dogs in the Gym. As we expected, she watched from the perimeter as other dogs played. (Having the cameras is the best, I'm so thankful Dogtopia has them to ease my worrying mind). Her first full day, she started off watching the other dogs, mostly hanging by the human in the room but still running away from the human if she ever tried to pet her. Toward the end of the day she started thinking about playing with other dogs, as she would walk up to them but then immediately run away if they reacted to her being there. The next time we sent her, she actually played with some of the other dogs. Any time the dogs got a little rough, the human would break them apart quickly. Now, after a few weeks of sending her to Dogtopia, we have a completely different dog. She is so much more confident and we have had no issues with her not eating her food due to anxiety. She seems so happy when we pick her up at the end of the day. If we ever go anywhere and have to board her, I won't send her anywhere else. Taking her to Dogtopia has been the best decision we have ever made and I have been spreading the word like wildfire to friends and coworkers.
