My dog, Koa is a year old Belgian Malinois but unfortunately was not trained. She was rehomed to me. I desperately needed obedience training. James shared pictures and videos with me of the whole journey since I lived 3 1/2 hours away. I had no reservations about leaving her with him. I doubt she wanted to leave him to come home! This will probably not be the only training she will get from James. He's very open to this being a great experience for you and your dog. He's very sweet but started to get rambunctious to the point that my remote work felt challenging. He also started jumping or freezing when he saw other dogs on walks, and he occasionally barked or growled and men. We weren't sure if it was the start of aggressive behavior or just the result of a shelter dog that hasn't been exposed. After doing our research, we decided to do the 3 week behavior modification board and train program. We were really impressed from beginning to end. They shared a ton of information upfront, walked us through their facility (we opted to drop him off) and sent pictures and updates every evening. It became clear right away that they both have a very deep understanding of dogs, as well as a real respect and love for them. Tuck loved them! The best part was the "transition" day when Perry brought Tuck back and spent the day teaching us everything they've worked on together. We are first time dog owners so generally going in pretty blind. Perry gave us a 101 on dogs and the importance of clear and consistent communication. He talked through all of the layers of training and how/why it is effective. We felt this part was SO helpful for us to understand how to be better owners. Then we walked Tuck around the neighborhood with Perry guiding us and then spent time addressing indoor behaviors too. He was flexible and stayed until we felt comfortable with everything. This is a long review so the TLDR: finding a trainer is a big decision and investment so we wanted to get it right. Brandi & Perry were really incredible and beyond our expectations!! She more or less did as she pleased when she wanted. She had us trained. We camp almost every weekend and she goes with us on all our trips. It had been a nightmare, she would pull on the leash when walking her and grab the leash out of our hands, jump up on people and their dogs, and rush out of the door of the RV with little recall. We were unable to relax and enjoy our time with her outside of the RV. Mr. Horan said he would make it his mission to teach Macie to become a better behaved dog. He did an excellent job. She returned to us a better behaved dog while still being her loving self. We are enjoying her much more at home and while camping. I highly recommend Citizen K-9 for training.

Apparently it was filed under some woman's name. I sent out letters and a summons to the address provided only to receive a returned letter stating the woman no longer lived there and had passed away. Clearly I am out of luck and have to chalk that $1200 up as a loss and a life lesson. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE EVER.

I was then told I could have a credit towards other training, but no refund according to their policy, regardless of what I was told. I may have returned at another time, when my dog had completely recovered from his experience, but the refusal from them to entertain what I understood to be a verbally promised refund has soured my opinion of this company. I believe I was cajoled into attending the "one class" so that they could deny my request for a refund based on their policy. Warning: If you are told a refund is possible, you will not receive it if you attend a class. Their policy is buried on the website, they will verbally tell you a refund is possible, but will not honor that. Of course, I clearly asked for a schnauzer cut. When I came back to pick her up, they had once again cut her fur the same length all over. This isn't the first time this has happened, which is why it's especially frustrating. The only part they seemed to get right was leaving her beard, but the rest of the grooming completely ignored what I requested. I tried to be patient and gave them several opportunities to get it right, but at this point, I've lost confidence in their ability to follow simple instructions. Unfortunately, this was their last chance. That said, the staff is very friendly and they treated my pup well. But what's the point if they don't do what you have paid for? Maybe they just don't know how to do a Schnauzer cut.
