If I could choose to leave 0 stars thats exactly what I would do.
I have never done anything like this but I have a voice that needs to be heard, and a pup who is missing a chunk of her brow.
On Sunday, March 19th, I took my 1 year old pup in to get her nails trimmed per usual at the Germantown, MD PetSmart on Frederick Rd.
Now, as I am well aware my pup is a bit high maintenance and a bit of a BIG BABY when it comes to anyone trimming her nails, thus the reason I am unable to do it myself. I choose this location because of a certain groomer there named Brittany who is seriously the dog whisperer and got my pup to sit still with no weird yelps or without rolling on the table avoiding the inevitable.
Upon checking in, the nice gal at the front warned me that Brit was no longer working there and that she was working at a nearby groomers. Awesome no problem. I'll see if you guys can do it, if not, I'll track down Brittany.
To no surprise I'm told they can't do it and that we are going to have to leave. Again, no problem, Brit isn't far. Until a girl in the back of the room yells, "I trained Brittany, let me try"..
She took my pup into a back room behind a closed door. Away from me. Comes back a few minutes later telling me how wonderful she did and she was even able to file them down with the grinder. SHE HAS NEVER LET ANYONE FILE HER.
I bend down to kiss her and tell her great job, and stand directly back up "what happened to her face?"
Her response: "Oh I have no idea, she must have done that herself, or the metal on the table harness got her when she slid her head out" UHMMMM WHAT?!! her face is bleeding, she has a gash on her eyebrow and you don't know what happened??
Now I wouldn't be so upset if she owned it. If she walked out of the back room and said "we had a little accident, don't be alarmed, its a small abrasion and it should heal up fine." But no none of that was said until I asked what happened.
I am a hairstylist, I understand accidents happen, tools cut. They are sharp, but if I cut your kid I WOULD TELL YOU IMMEDIATELY AND NOT TRY TO MAKE EXCUSES TO COVER IT UP. I had my daughter with me so I tried my hardest to remain calm.
The next morning I go back to PetSmart demand a vet visit and an antibiotic eye cream to avoid infection. What upset me was that I had to ask for it. It should have been offered in my opinion. The vet at Banfield was wonderful, but nothing has been done or said about the girl who knowingly hurt my fur baby and failed to let me know it happened. I have read nothing but terrible reviews on PetSmart groomers and I feel almost at fault for not just leaving the second I found out Brit wasn't there.
My pup has been VERY lethargic for 2 days now, not interested in her toys, only wakes up off the couch to eat and potty, then right back to sleep. I have never seen her so lazy for a lack of better word.
I guess my point in writing all of this is to spread awareness to never ever ever take your furry friends to PetSmart and to pay the few extra dollars to go to an actual groomery where the staff actually cares and is compassionate about animals.
My GiGi will most likely live with a scar on her face and the staff at PetSmart could give two sh*** less.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of that and please please please share with your friends and fellow animal lovers. No animal should have to suffer in pain because someone is trying to be quick and get the job done.
I will never know what happened in that room to my pup, nor do I think I want to know, but I do know that we will never return and I will do my part to spread my story and prevent any future gashes and scars on our beloved furry friends. read more
