Just dropped my dog off for grooming and was met by two very unprofessional groomers at the desk. I dropped off about 30 minutes early and they like guilted me for showing up early. Ummmmmm would you rather I showed up late or not at all? I hadn't brought my dogs here for several years because of the terrible customer service I experienced (they cancelled my 2:00 appointment and called me at 1:50 as I was pulling into the parking lot). Terrible terrible customer service here. As someone who was the manager of a small local dog kennel for 11 years, the corporate feel to this place is sickening. And they also asked if my dog had pre existing eye ulcers so obviously this has been an issue with dogs coming in for service. I highly recommend only going to locally owned mom and pop groomer shops. The groomers and staff have a lot more invested than the unprofessional, flaky staff at PetSmart grooming. Lesson learned, just wait the 2 weeks for the appointment at the better place... read more

On October 8th, 2017. Our family dog Koda, a golden doodle of 14 years was taken to PetSmart to be groomed. My brother Drew got a phone call that Koda was ready to be picked up. When he walked in he saw that Koda was laying awkwardly on the table and that they were still clipping her tail. They proceeded to tell him to go pay the bill and that Koda will be ready after he pays. When Drew walked back in, Koda was laying on the floor and they told drew "your dog won't get up." Thinking it was just the slippery ground that made her scared to walk on, Drew picked her up and brought her to the parking lot where he thought she would be able to walk. But immediately when he set her down on the pavement, she fell to the ground. Drew took her home to where she was cared for all night. (They even brought down my mattress for her to sleep on). In the morning, Kodas ability to walk was just as worse as the day before. My family decided to take her to the vet. The vet observed Koda and he concluded that Koda's ACL has been torn or very severely injured. We were going to get an official MRI but PetSmart still hasn't paid for the first vet bill like they promised. It is CLEAR that someone did not give my 14 YEAR OLD DOG the care she needed when getting groomed. It is believed that my dog has been mistreated and likely was forced off the grooming table at an unstable manor. Resulting in a poor old dogs ligaments to tear. If YOUR WORKERS do not have to decency to treat their furry customers with the love we are convinced they do, then YOU should pay the cost. YOU should be held accountable. PET SMART has been acting as if this never happened and is pretending like it's not important. I'm writing this to WARN all others about taking their animal to PetSmart for grooming. It is possible that your best friend will be MISTREATED, you will have to pay the cost of your own vet bills and you will have to watch your very loved furry friend be in unbearable pain. It has been almost 3 months and PetSmart is still refusing to pay our vet bills. read more

PREFER NOT TO GO TO THIS PARTICULAR PETSMART Some PETSMART's have good Groomers, and I go to them exclusively. However, the Germantown, MD PETSMART is horrible. My review of 1 star is for the Germantown location only. I am very happy with the other locations. My Experience: I took one of my dogs (a Great Pyrenees) there. She has a lot of long, long hair. She came back poorly bathed, with minimal brush out -still with a lot of loose hair, and had to be brushed out by ME again upon returning home, to get the remaining shedding out. I asked for cream rinse to be used, because she will knot terribly, if not used. He (the groomer) told it would be extra. (I paid it, but protested). Extra? Extra to use a necessary product to groom the dog? So I guess if a client doesn't pay extra for cream rinse, (which is an unnecessary up-charge) you don't use the necessary products on my dog & my dog's coat will be full of knots and you'll just yank them out during the drying and brushing? A professional and proper groomer should use whatever shampoo (and cream rinse/detangler) necessary to PROPERLY do the job! On a long haired dog, cream rinse/detangler is not an option. It is mandatory. If you don't use it, the coat will be full of knots and be painful for the dog upon brush out. $78.00 for only a bath (no trimming) plus a 30% tip is enough. --- I always tip -just like in a hair salon (or more for a big dog or dogs w/a lot of hair).---I assume PETSMART has already factored in the additional product(s) needed on large dogs and that's part of the reason they charge more to bathe a large dog! That being said, I don't like being nickeled and dimed & charged for cream rinse/detangler. Not using it certainly is not comfortable for a long haired dog. Though I did pay for the cream rinse, if another owner declined the upcharge for the conditioner, the Groomer should do the right thing and do what's needed to keep the dog comfortable. Always consider what is best for the dog, that is the first priority. Out of several experiences there over the years, I have witnessed on more than one occasion, Groomers who were rough and not kind to dogs. (I watch through the glass from a distance). I cherish my pets and want them treated not just humanely, but kindly and they did not get that at the Germantown PETSMART. I will never subject them to being groomed here again. read more

Our granddaughter wanted a small aquarium for her/guest room. Well, $200.00 later and counting we have a cute little set-up in her room. Today, a Sunday, we went to get some finishing touches, most particularly a "bubbler" because I knew there was something missing. Sunday at PetSmart, dog adoptions, cat adoptions, regular customers, pretty darn busy so didn't expect much help. We hit the aquarium section and pretty soon a nice employee asks my husband if he needs help. Husband says no and I jump in "oh, yes we do!" They didn't carry the filters I need, no problem I'll order them on-line. And then there was that bubbler. He found them right away but I had no idea what other supplies I needed to make it work. First employee was very nice but I don't think he was assigned to aquariums so he called in Michelle. Michelle was a wealth of information. Helped him with the bubbler, then came over and explained the difference between Aqua Safe and Quick Start. Showed us which pet food to buy for Glofish. Then the ace up her sleeve. I asked if we needed a bunch of test kits. Oh no, if we bring a sample of our aquarium water to them they will do 5 tests on it for free, no problem. Since our local, family-owned aquarium store has closed I didn't think we'd get that kind of service. Just hope Michelle is there next week when we, hopefully, start to stock our tank. read more

If I could give less stars I would!! Never take your dog here for grooming. I don't know what they do when the owners leave but I can tell you that the dogs are not treated right. Injured dogs scared dogs. Sometime is going on here and the store doesn't care enough to figure it out or take care of their neglect related injuries. Go somewhere else anywhere else!!!!! Admittedly my Standard Poodles were a bit beyond their normal grooming, but I don't need to be shamed when I bring my boys in for beautification. I was told that in essence that my dogs were beyond help and needed to be shaved by a vet, but they assure me that they would "do their best". They certainly didn't appear to be that far gone to me. Reluctantly, I left the 7-year-old and I happily agreed to pay for any de-matting only have him returned "skinned" no top knot, shaved ears, no fur on his body or tail. He did not look at all like a poodle or even my dog for that matter & they charged me $100 to add insult to injury. I was not about let them do the same to my other standard poodle as they said the same about his condition as my 7-year-old. Later I took my other poodle to another groomer (a mobile groomer) and he came back looking great. Top Knot, Fluffy ears and tail. Tthey did, however, shave down his body, but he looks beautiful & like a poodle should- Gorgeous and majestic. What is the deal with them? I have never really been happy with how they have groomed my poodle, (I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they did an adequate job on my cocker spaniels in the past) but always have been made to feel like I have somehow failed them (didn't brush them enough or neglected them in some way) and this is what we both deserved. It is their job to do their best, not give up on our dogs and just shave them as a first resort. Now, comparing the two dogs, they look like night and day. I am very upset that my 7 year old has to sport that haircut/scalping until it grows out. I recommend that the staff show more compassion, exercise better customer service and take more pride & time in a good well done. I will not be back. read more

I have to express my love for this place because they take such good care of my pup! My favorite groomer is Charlotte and she's great at her craft! She's always welcoming and extremely patient with my, not so well behaved shorkie. Over the past few months she's gotten him accustomed to grooming and from what I hear he isn't biting anymore. Petsmart has decent prices, frequent sales and a large variety of pet supplies. We also visit this location for salt water supplies but they're selection is below average. Again, this is my number one place of choice for dog grooming. read more

There are only a couple other PetSmarts in the area to choose from and this one is by far my favorite. Their store is much bigger than the one in Rockville (I'm not sure about Germantown or Bethesda) which is nice if you're taking your pet with you, you don't feel closed in if there are other animals or people around. They seem to have a very large inventory. There are always a ton of toys to choose from. Different sizes and styles of tennis balls, kong toys for all size dogs, puppy sized stuffed toys, squeaky toys, you name it they've got it. I don't purchase my dog food from here as they don't carry the brand we use (Honest Kitchen). We have opted to choose a more natural brand dog food for our dogs diets and PetSmart unfortunately only carries a few brands in this category. It would be nice if PetSmart would start to carry better quality dog and cat food options than the 2 or 3 brands they have. I give them a 4 out of 5 because the staff is not always the friendliest. They have a lot of younger kids working there on the weekends and sometimes they just weren't the best with customer service at the register or with their willingness to help. However, everyone seems to be very knowledgeable and most of the time loves to help point you in the right direction or guide you in finding the right product for your needs. read more

I am a regular shopper on other pet supply websites. However, I am finding out that sometimes PETSMART has the best price when ordering on their website. I often order on-line and pick up order in store, whereby I receive a 5% discount. When the check-out lines are long, all you have to do is go to the area next to the check-out area, get your order and tell someone you picked up the order; you don't have to wait in line. We have taken two dog training classes with Angela. I say we because at times the whole family participated and we were all welcome. We got so much out of her class! Angela is wonderful with the pups and people too. She is always entertaining and her sense of humor makes it so much fun! She goes the extra mile - staying after class to help with a particular issue, making recommendations for products to try, and stepping in to help when attempting difficult commands with a stubborn pup. I highly recommend her training class. You will learn so much and have fun too! Update: we attended a puppy class reunion yesterday. It's been 2 years since our first puppy class and this was our second reunion. When you take a class with Angela she makes you part of a community! It was so fun to see the other dogs - more than 15 attended, and we played games like musical chairs with our dogs. It was a blast. read more

We also enrolled our corgi Mr. Butters in the beginners level pet training class with Angela Parent. She was great! She's a real life dog whisperer. She taught us how to train our little boy using positive reinforcement. We were so proud of our pup when he completed and graduated from the class!!! Angela was super patient and experienced. New to the area, I was too far from our previous groomer in DC, but did not have any friends in the area to recommend an appropriate groomer in the area. Enter Google. When calling the store, I was given prices as well as the option to have our vet fax in the shot record - that was no doubt lost in some pile of yet to be unpacked papers at my house. My fav petsmart by far. It's also conveniently located on 355, a short distance from the 270 exit. Their groomers is also the best in the area in my opinion. My boyfriend and I went to return the wrong size doggie diaper and purchase the correct size. While I went to get the correct size, my boyfriend started the return. The cashier exclaimed that she hated returns. At the same time, she saw the clothes hangers we brought back and said "We don't even take those" and rudely pointed at the trash, implying that we throw it away. If that wasn't enough, instead of completing the return/purchase in one transaction, she proceeded to complete the return separately without asking me. I dislike separate transactions showing up on my bank statement so I asked her to complete everything in one transaction. She then glared at me and shouted that she was already doing the return separately. This was the worst customer service experience at Petsmart. read more

Wow I am really surprised by all the reviews... I was just in again today and each time I walk in I am greeted with hellos and big smiles and asked multiple times if I can be helped. When I take in my 8 month old puppy, the employees pet him and help even more. He has been groomed there ever since he was born and they love him there and they do a fabulous job! Well I have tried PetSmart 3 times now.. I should of learned my lession the first 2 times. But I can say 100% I will never go back! This time was the worst! So I have a doodle that every groomer says behaves amazing.. So I have to say its the groomer. I will just focus on this last trip. They shaved the hair around her pads so close that when I got home I noticed that all of her pads were bleeding. They gave her butt pretty bad razor burn. To top it off they did not listen to anything on how I wanted her groomed. I told them 5 times on each item and they still did not hear me.. I come to this Petsmart location to buy cat food and dog toys occasionally. I've never visited the veterinary practice, done training classes nor had my dogs groomed here. However, it's convenient to where I live and shop for other things. When the dogs just need to get out of the house we bring them here, too. Of course, our pups only eat holistic food (snobs!) that Petsmart doesn't carry so we go elsewhere for their food. read more

The grooming salon in the Pet Smart in Germantown was more than disappointing from the moment I walked in with my dog. We all know our pets dread the groomer as much as a visit to the veterinarian so you would hope the first encounter upon arrival would feel warm and friendly. If that is what you're hoping for your pet do not use this grooming salon. Chelsea who I had made an online appointment with was so rude and abrupt I absolutely knew I would not feel comfortable leaving my dog there. After requesting the manager Tanya to assist and perhaps address the situation I was again disappointed to witness her placate the groomer with no regard for the customer. Bottom line if you want your gig to feel nurtured and you want to be shown common courtesy and respect- do not book an appointment here! Clearly not what it claims- not Pet-Smart. I recently got a puppy and have been taking her to this petsmart location for Both banfield grooming and other pet supplies. And my puppy absolutely loves it there. She made friends with her groomer and I actually feel comfortable with leaving here with them. And I LOVE their clearance section because I can get her cheap toys since she's a puppy and destroys everything. The staff here is also great. They answer any questions and socialize with my puppy. read more

She (and Rosetta!) are experienced, knowledgeable, and extremely patient. Angela is interested in knowing what is most important for each owner and helps to ensure that every dog is progressing toward their goals. My dog requires a bit more personal space than other dogs and Angela has been a strong advocate for that special need in class. The dog training classes offered at this location, with Angela Parent as the trainer specifically, are amazing! We were shopping with our puppy Lily at Petsmart when Angela discovered us and suggested that we attend a puppy playtime that was about to commence. We loved puppy playtime (it really helped get Lily's energy out!), and we learned some very valuable information and advice about raising a puppy from Angela while they played. We liked Angela so much that we decided to enroll Lily in her puppy education class, and then in intermediate, and advanced! Now Lily is one year old and is a certified therapy dog; we couldn't have done it without Angela! The reason that we loved Angela as an instructor so much is that she is not only immensely knowledgeable, but she also has a great sense of humor and makes the process of training so much more approachable and less overwhelming. She is very patient in the classes and offers advice and constructive criticism in the most positive and helpful way. Sometimes she even served as a counselor when my husband and I argued about which one of us was practicing the exercises wrong! :) Perhaps most importantly, our dog Lily LOVES her! We all miss Angela and our training classes. I would highly recommend that anyone considering training for their dog take her classes! read more

I took my dog to get groomed at petsmart In Germantown Maryland. I will NEVER take her back. I dropped my dog off at 11 am EST and picked her up at 3:30 EST. ( this process needs to change , I should be able to make an appt for my dog and be able to stay with her while she is being groomed. ) I picked my dog up and took her home, she was not acting her normal self, she has been throwing up all night. I called and one of the associates said that it must be something from before she was dropped off. Which is totally FALSE My dog was just fine before she was dropped off. With that being said. I didn't receive an apology or any type of sign of concern. I took her to the vet and was advised that she was stressed out. This shows they do not care about the animals being taken care of. They just want to do their job and go. When I told my family and friends I was told that GERMANTOWN PETSMART is the worst place to go. I will not be coming back and I will make sure that I tell people to go else where. read more

The Germantown Petsmart , is by far my favorite Petsmart ever ! Their customer is always so nice and organized , their employees are amazing . Their cashier Lesli is a great worker she has a great smile very helpful , her customer service skills are amazing . She helped me find dog food for my puppy , toys for my little guy and she even helped me at the register by ringing me up and wasn't slow at scanning my items and coupons. She by far my favorite cashier at the Germantown Petsmart. I hope her manager never lets her go , she's an amazing worker . I've been taking my Persian Himalayan cat to Charlotte in grooming department for so long I can't exactly remember. I looooooove the lion cut. For those that don't know, a lion cut is pretty much exactly what you're thinking. She leaves a full tail but his whole body is shaved and shaped to resemble a lion. He loves it too. His behavior changes, he's more active and affectionate, the fur around his flat little face doesn't get matted or need cleaning because of food, I think he looks ADORABLE and it's hysterical (for those of you with opposing ideas about this feline hair cut, bite me :) Charlotte always takes such great care of him and is so quick, I can leave him with her for 30-40 min, go shopping or run errands, the location is wonderful, and return to a happy and handsome best buddy. I love my little guy to tiny pieces and it means everything to me that she takes such terrific care of him. The price is very reasonable but most important I get consistent care and work from her and THATS that matters when it comes to my furry friend. read more
