Beth came to our house initially a few years ago for a private consult to help with my reactive/fearful Aussie. She was incredibly compassionate and knowledgable. Foremost she is a certified positive trainer. I was most impressed by how she looked at every detail- my dog, me, my husband. the house, neighborhood etc so she could really drill down and create a plan for us. SO much better than reading a book and trying to apply theory when just starting out. (books are good too but I like a teacher) Beth suggested we could benefit from her Reactive Dog Class and it changed our lives and that is no exaggeration. It was an hour drive and 100% worth it. Boots on the ground, in a group setting with one on one help. Not at all easy to find reactive dog classes like hers! First you have an awesome experienced trainer, her team is fantastic, a safe outdoor location where you can learn in real time the ways to help your dog (and you) feel more confident bc you have been there with Beth (Fiona and trusted helpers are great) with other dogs and owners. Absolutely FIVE STAR review for Beth and Fiona and their Reactive Dog Class. My Toby is a three-year-old German Shepherd who I have had in training since he was a puppy. The corrective training I was using with Toby was making his reactivity/aggression worse - I didn't know what to do. I started working with a dog behaviorist who warned me about taking Toby to a group class as most group classes do not know how to handle a bunch of reactive dogs in one place. That was not the case with Unleashed Joy. The training I received from Beth and Fiona has helped me understand Toby's reactivity and what I need to do to help him through the scary situations. The class was spread out so that we did not get closer to the other dogs until we felt comfortable with the distance and situation. Toby did not bark ONCE in any of the classes, thanks to the outdoor environment, the control we had over the situation, and the GREAT training/guidance we received. Since completing the class, I've been working with Toby at home and we are now able to walk past the house with the barking dog without a reaction from Toby. This is HUGE!!!! read more

4.5 stars. Beth Joy's a really nice lady who obviously enjoys working with dogs of all sorts. We signed up for a "tricks" class and it's been one of the more hands-on demonstrations of behavior shaping we've ever had with any of our dogs. Beth takes the time to not only demonstrate the proper shaping technique, but to work with the owner to make sure they're properly reinforcing the desired behavior. She also provides take-home props and instructions for practicing between classes. The facility can be pretty cramped for groups, and it's not easy to find in the evening. The small space puts the dogs closer together which can be a distraction when trying to teach new behavior. There's supposed to be a new space they're moving to after the 1st of the year, so hopefully that will improve. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Unleashed Joy's Reactive Dog Class! The class size is small enough so that everyone gets plenty of help and attention. The instructors, Beth and Fiona are incredibly helpful and consistently positive. I adopted my dog, Gordy, from a severely abusive situation, and he truly blossomed in this class. He gained confidence, which in turn helped him to be less reactive. I learned SO much about how to manage Gordy's threshold levels, and how to anticipate situations where he might need support. We are both enjoying our walks a great deal, and Gordy has a happier life. I couldn't ask for more than that. I highly recommend this class for anyone with a reactive dog, or for anyone with a dog that needs a little confidence-building in a safe environment. read more

I can not speak to training or boarding for the fact that Beth is horrible at responding to emails, but can manage to add your email to her advertisements. I attempted to email Beth based on a recommendation from another dog trainer. Beth started to respond but on the second email she never replied. I attempted to email her twice after that, again no response. Imagine my surprise when weeks later I started to recieve advertisements for training. When I replied to these emails somehow these emails went thru. Instead of trying to resolve the problem and read my emails she only responded that she would take my email off her mailing list. I took my puppy to "puppy poise" classes this fall/winter and I just can't say enough good things about our experience!! Beth only uses positive training. Techniques and you can tell with practice that your commands just "click" with you dog almost instantly! I have been pleasantly surprised how more and more well behaved my puppy has become after each week. I can truly see how our ability to communicate with each other has improved and our bond is much greater because of it. My Jojo just LOVES going to class and learn! She learned how to come on demand, set, down, touch, wait, and drop it! I can't tell you how great "drop it " is when your pup has your favorite shoes in her mouth or when she thinks your nephews plush toy is one of hers!! Unleashed Joy was recommended to me by my veterinarian when he was a puppy. I enrolled Bubba, now almost 2 years old, in the "Reactive Dog" classes in June and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! From our very first day, Beth and Fiona have been extremely welcoming and have provided a great deal of knowledge on how to positively address Bubba's reactive tendencies. I have learned so many beneficial tips and techniques to guide Bubba through life without fear and nervousness of other dogs and people. I have learned how to identify Bubba's emotions by recognizing his tail behavior and reactions to different situations. Fiona has really taken the time to dig deep and get to know more about Bubba and our life outside of class and has provided me with additional information and tools along the way to continue his training outside of class. My fiancée and I signed our dog Millie up for the reactive dog class. Before the class, we could barely walk down the street without her trying to lunge or bark at another dog. After the first class, we instantly noticed a difference in her demeanor towards other dogs. By the end of the course, Millie was capable of walking within a few inches of the neutral dog Corbit without reacting. Beth has been a wonderful trainer and we look forward to signing up for additional classes. I hired Unleashed Joy Dog Training to help me with my leash reactive dog, Marty! He was such a nightmare to walk around a local lake near my home. He lunged at bikes, joggers, and other dogs! It was very stressful! The lead trainer, Beth Joy, came to my home for private sessions that included walking around the lake. Wow, has he improved. The company uses only positive methods---treats and treats. Now Marty makes a positive association with things that move because he gets a treat---joggers, bikes and cars bring treats so that he is mostly not afraid of the movement anymore. I had no clue that he was afraid of fast movement---I learned so much about positive training and now my walks around the lake are so much relaxing. We love Beth and Unleashed Joy! After a sleepless night with Ayla, our new Alaskan Malamute puppy (literally she howled from 10pm - 6am), I emailed Beth to ask for help with crate training. We weren't even clients yet, but she called me that morning to talk... she gave me lots of great tips and sent an article about crate training... she also assured me it was totally normal that I was crying on the phone with her! ;) #sleepdeprivation. We started one-on-one training with her at our house first... Ayla learned a lot and absolutely adored Beth. We then started using the Doggy Daycare one day a week to help socialize Ayla to other dogs... Ayla has a blast and comes home completely tuckered out. Now we are planning on attending Puppy Poise Classes and using Unleashed Joy for boarding.
