I've been coming here for about half a year now for training. Leslie (?) is an awesome trainer! She really cares about every single dog that comes through the door. I've done beginner, intermediate, and two classes for advanced (mainly because my dog is a stubborn one). This is also a huge PetSmart store so I'm sure you'll find whatever you will need for your pet. I've also done daycare and overnight for my dog and he comes back tired and happy. All the employees I've come across are genuine and friendly. read more

We boarded our dog from Thursday - Sunday, when we came to pick her up she was separated from all the dogs. She was coughing like crazy right when they brought her out to us. They said she was just excited and fine. NOPE! Our dog is SICK!!! She contracted kennel cough and they said 'oh sorry, it happens.. we didn't notice so we didn't treat her' absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! We will never be using this place again for boarding! read more

PetSmart - Pet Stores Near Me - Encinitas, California

Third week in a row I've come to the store to buy Kong treats in the large can dispenser; however, the product is not on the shelves at the Kong display. 2 weeks ago the manager said the holidays have them very busy and he expects the product to be on the shelf after Thursday delivery. Today the manager, Alissa said the store didn't usually carry the product, I told her that's wrong as I've been a customer since the store opened and never had this problem before. She walked off, guess she was embarrassed that I called her on her lie/exaggeration. There are many pet stores in the area, Petco, Kahoots, etc. Those will be our new go-to stores for supplies in the future. So, we received an email ('Do not reply to this email, will not be read') from the manager. Said to call him for a $20 coupon as a sign of their intention to keep us as a customer. Called (he was off that day), gave info and name as stated n his email. 3 weeks now and no coupon. Petco next to the CVS Store o Encinitas is our go-to from now on. They are well stocked, quite a bit smaller than the store in C'bad but, they have all the products on the shelves and it only took one visit to buy Kong products for our pooch. Petco is a local company v Petsmart a multi-sate corporate conglomerate. Shop local and get what you expect for your money! read more

We love this PetSmart and the employees in the training/doggie day camp. Leslie is the best trainer ever! Our pup went through puppy and intermediate training with her and she's a totally different dog now. We also take her to day camp here a few times a week and she leaves with the biggest smile and sleeps the rest of the day. All the camp employees know our dog and love her like their own. Absolutely recommend to anyone considering training or camp! read more

We had a very positive experience with dog groomer, Sasha, at PetSmart grooming November 10,2018. She took her time, bonded with our dog and and she got us as a regular customer. We have also had positive experiences there with Ashley. We realized we can't go wrong with their grooming team We are also happy wIth Banfield Pet Hospital next door in PetSmart! Stevie at the front desk and the vet team are caring and animal lovers. read more

Stephanie and Colette did a wonderful job and made it happen for my twins 11th birthday. They are the best.

Please stop selling reptiles if you can't properly nurture them during the most important developmental phases of their lives. If you know anything about reptiles, it will be blatantly obvious to you that the conditions within PetSmart are horrifically abusive, both physically and mentally. #RIPreptar read more

It hurts me to write this review - and it only relates to the groomers - but I feel too hurt by PetsMart to ever come back - and this has been my go to pet store for over two decades. I've been coming to this location for years - previously just for fish/fish goodies - but as of 8 months ago for my new (adopted) dog too. Never mind all of the supplies and things I buy here, I would also bring in my girl for nail grindings. When we adopted her the nails were way outgrown, so I would bring her in once a month for grindings in an attempt to get the quicks to recede. I've been here probably 5 or more times and was always told she did great and didn't mind it, no problems at all. This last time I came in on a Sunday as opposed to a weekday, which was crazy busy, but they were able to get me in right away ( you don't make appointments for these) but I didn't really give it much thought. I did a quick run to the food aisle and came back up to pay to see my girl through the window with a muzzle on. That's strange - never seen them do that before. So I pay and stroll in just in time to hear the girl who's handling her SCREAMING how "No, she doesn't need any help NOW that she only has two nails left, but she just wanted someone to come comfort or hug the dog, F#%^!!" - then she turned around to see me staring wide-eyed at her. Yeah, I heard all that. I was dumbfounded. She said she was so sorry and finished up and brought her over to me, her face was red and there was spittle flying out of her mouth and onto my dog. She said she tried to nip at her with one of her paws which she's never done before and asked if she'd been licking it or anything lately. She said she hates to muzzle a dog because it just stresses them out. Well, I understand that you need to do what you need to; however, I feel that you having a breakdown, being stressed and angry and cursing while holding onto my dog is clearly adding to any stress or discomfort she's for some reason feeling. I don't know what or who triggered who- if her paws were hastily or angrily grabbed then sure, she probably and rightfully nipped as a warning to be more gentle. I wipe her paws down daily and gently and never have an issue. Clearly I'll have to find a new place or just start doing this myself. When I got her back to the car she laid down and curled into a little sad ball, not her usual car ride expression. Not okay. It's my job to keep her in safe and loving situations at all times; clearly Petsmart no longer fits into the equation. read more

Love petsmart! The staff here is personable and very friendly. Leslie one of the trainers here is absolutely fantastic!

dude! they keep their birds in TINY white boxes and that is NOT COOL. hey pet pros, birds like to fly. and they don't have any holistic cat food. hey pet pros, cats don't like to eat purina preservatives and filler. they like real food. made out of real ingredients. petsmart, your desire to make money off of brand names and animal abuse is way, way too obvious. read more

I don't know whether this review is better assigned to Banfield or Petsmart, but ... I went to the store to buy food and a new bed for my senior dog. After getting to the front of the line, I was told that the food required a "prescription card." When the clerk found out that I use a specialty vet (and not Banfield), she said Banfield should be able to call my vet for the prescription, so she sent me to the in-store Banfield. The Banfield clerk then rudely told me that she had "one hundred and one things to do," so I needed to call my vet and have them fax over an order form ... She couldn't just give them a jingle even though no other customers were requiring attention at Banfield. I decided to just leave because who wants to stick around for that type of stellar customer service?! What a racket. read more

I just wanted to take a minute to complement the PetSmart Encinitas, Store Manager Danielle for the kind thoughtful advice she gave me. I was looking for the plastic dog license silencers, which they unfortunately did not have in stock. She recommended the plastic key color identifiers instead that you can get at any key shop. Well I happened to have two at home that worked perfectly. Thanks to Danielle and her creative problem solving, I was in business. I've been shopping this PetSmart for years and will continue to do so because of their kindness and creative problem solving. Jim Craig read more

So I wanted to adopt a cat at PetSmart I picked a kitty and the lady asked me do you have a cat I told her yes I do and then she asked me what do you feed her I told her I feed her Sheba soft food Plus dry food then she told me no those cats it only eat fancy feast food then I filled up the application 22 questions I felt. I'm applying for a home loan then they took my application to the counselor a few minutes later few women came out talking to each other and looking at us and look at the other people and they called us then we sat down with them and this is to start asking questions about do I have a cat that told her yes and she asked me if she's indoor or outdoor I told her she's in and out then she said Oh no D Scott they are only for indoor. I'm paying $150 to adopt a cat and helpa cat to have a good home but here you got uneducated idiots trying to teach you how to take care of a cat and pick and choose who can have a cat and who can't now I am going to buy a cat or go to the pound and get a cat and I never go back to PetSmart they suck. read more

I was in PetSmart on 9/29/2016 between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. and I was observing the dogs in the day care because they seemed stressed and afraid. I decided to see if there was anyone caring for them so I peeked around the corner and as soon as I did I noticed the attendant doing leash corrections/pops on a large Pug mix. She was also yelling at two small dogs that appeared to be Yorkies. I stayed out of her view to see if she would do anything else, and then I came into her view so that she would see that I was watching her--she discontinued the leash corrections on the Pug and stopped yelling at the Yorkies but started yelling at the dog that was jumping up at me on the glass (presumably trying to tell me to help him/her get out of there I imagine as he or she seemed stressed). I told the manager of the store that the attendant was abusing the dogs and that the dogs seemed stressed and afraid. She told me she was not the day care manager and so I asked to speak with the day care manager. The day care manager's name was Tabitha. I asked Tabitha if she knew her staff was doing leash corrections on the dogs in the day care and yelling at the dogs and she said that she did not know she was yelling at the dogs but that leash corrections were an approved correction technique of PetSmart. I was shocked to hear this. I felt so bad for the dogs in the day care being disciplined and yelled at and looking so stressed and sad. I wanted to wait until each and every one of them was picked up so I could warn their "parents" but I did not have time. I asked her for the attendants name and she said it was Marissa. Tabitha told me she was a new employee. Tabitha said it had been a "long day" and I said "that is an unacceptable excuse for abusing people's dogs." I was ambivalent to shop at PetSmart because they sell animals and only went there looking for a specific type of cat food my cats like. But after seeing the abuse of the dogs in the day care (and knowing that they are probably treated even worse behind the scenes), as well as selling live animals, I will NEVER shop there again. I would recommend that people not take their dogs to the day care if they do not want them mistreated, and based on some of the Yelp reviews, not even the groomers. Sad. read more

I've never really been one to rave about a pet store but this is my favorite one by far! The store was clean and well organized but I had an amazing experience working with Melissa while buying a guinea pig. She was very friendly and approachable! She was very familiar with the pets in the store ready for adoption which helped me to get the perfect one! She was also super helpful with providing information about the care of guinea pigs and was a pleasure to talk to!!! She was so great to talk to - will definitely continue going to this store because of her, even though it is a bit out of the way. read more

We took our Shih tzu there for grooming. They were told, & documented it in their computer, that she is fearful of loud blow dryers. But normally she can be talked through it just fine, & comes out of a grooming salon happy, bouncy, & waggy tailed. Not THIS time! First of all, when she was ready to be picked up they called the exact phone number they were told NOT to call. They never even called my husband's phone at all, as they were asked to. An hour later I turned on my phone (thankfully) & found the voice mail from them. When my husband got there they said she'd be done in about 10 minutes. Weird, he thought, since they'd called over an hour earlier. When they brought her out she was shaking & extremely anxious to get out of there. VERY unusual behavior for her. And she was very damp! They said she'd pooped on herself & had to be bathed again. She has NEVER done that! He paid & went out the door & our poor dog lost bowel control on the sidewalk, & it was bloody! He cleaned her up & brought her home to me, since I'm a medical professional. Looking her over, I found that they'd shaved her sanitary area so close that her skin was raw & oozing blood. Of course this caused her to panic & she probably became uncooperative. So they put her in a crate & called the wrong number. They never took her out to relieve herself. And the manager later said "We don't ever take dogs out to relieve themselves. They can hold it for up to four hours.". He said they only have potty "privileges" for dogs boarding there. The bloody poop she lost was a rare panic response dogs have when completely terrified; a sudden onset of ulcerative colitis. It took 3 days to get her better. I called the manager of the store to complain. And in explaining how special this little girl doggie is to me he said (no kidding): "I get it. My grandma has a cat that she thinks is special too. So you want your money back, or what?" He also said I could bring her in to see their veterinarian. Right...great idea. I called our own veterinarian instead, Go here at your own risk. Never again for us! BTW....they never finished the grooming job either. I discovered after looking her over that her teeth weren't cleaned, her paw pads weren't trimmed, her facial hair wasn't trimmed, and her legs weren't finished. They NEVER told us that! But they sure took the $45 payment for it! read more

I can concur on the low level of service at this place. It was $$31 to bathe a cat! My cat got into the fireplace and got ash & soot everywhere. They didn't clean him completely. He still has a grey tint all over him. They didn't dry him completely; and it was a HOT dryer. He was wet on one side and hot on the other and scared to death. read more

I've taken my golden retriever mix there about four times. Got three good cuts. The cutters are polite and caring. my dogs love getting the "top dog" treatment. more than just a brush and bath, they get their nails clipped and teeth brushed. yes, they come home nice and soft - and with fresh breath. j's dogs - 1 gingivitis - 0 ok, well fresh non-doggy breath for a few hours at least. read more

We come to Petsmart for everything for our dog! She goes to Banfield, is still doing puppy training, gets groomed here, and we buy all her stuff from here! Our pup has done puppy training, intermediate training, and will be moving onto advanced training in the class that starts in a couple of weeks! Leslie is an awesome trainer and I would definitely recommend bringing your dog/puppy here to learn anything from the basics to cool tricks to socializing with other dogs their age! They have quality food available for dogs that is healthy and grain free which is perfect for any dog. We went to the groomers today for the second time and we haven't gotten our pup's hair cut yet because she's got a beautiful coat that doesn't shed almost at all, but she came home smelling great and happy with cute bows in her hair! The only thing was that her bath took about 3 hours which was longer than I expected a bath to be, but they also trimmed her nails and cleaned her ears so it worked out perfectly. I'd definitely recommend coming here for your pups needs! read more

This review is strictly for the Cat adoption event held 7/17-7/19/2015 done by the crazy nut jobs that run The Rescue House. Let me fist say how horrible you people are by misleading your customers to actually believe they could adopt one of these kittens! You all should be ashamed of yourselves for not stating up front and in HUGE letters that you do not let your kittens/cats go to homes that are: too small, homes have kids, have other pets, or to homes that believe cats should be allowed to go outdoors. If you have a loving family willing to do their best to care for a homeless kitten or cat you should be grateful! In addition to being turned down for having kids I'd like to mention how your racial profiling did not go u noticed. Right after I had asked to see a cat and was let in its pen (without question) a hispanic family asked as well. The workers response "yes but you all need to go sanitize your hands and it will be a while" you racist horrible people. Why didn't you ask me to do that? BC you had no intention of letting those poor people adopt one of your precious kittens. Pet smart as long as you're working with the Rescue House you will NEVER get my business or anyone I knows! I plan to share this experience with my good friends in the media and hope you all can change the way you do business. I saw many tears and heartaches this weekend that could have been prevented had you stated these regulations or "deal breakers" as you so put it to my families up front, not after a 30 minute interview and many tears. read more

Lets throw it out there that I like animals, but I do not go over the top for one. Places like Petsmart sheerly amaze me with how extensive people can flip for their four legged friends. Everything from the the tip top grooming supplies to damn near gourmet cookies and treats. Whatever happened the the good old canned dog food? The employees here did not seem to be of the friendliest nor the most helpful. I went with my friend as she was going to adopt a cat and the lady gave her quite the "mother speech." Something simple that irritated me was on the door to the cat viewing room there was a sign posted that said, "CHILDREN, under the age of 18 may not enter without adult supervision." Now, I understand the reason as to why this sign exists, but seriously, "children"... wow. The lady inside with the animals looked at me funny as I was loitering outside the glass as my friend melted over all the kittens inside. Half of me wanted to yell out that I was considered a "child" and was not allowed to enter, but I just stood there. However, in my spare time of being a child, I found myself rather entertained by the dog calendars and books. Is it really necessary to have an entire calendar filled with the breed of dog that you have? Wow. Pet people make me concerned for their own sanity sometimes.... However, this place does make good contributions to many animal rescue centers and is also a good dog tamer with their obedience classes happening a few times a week. Always a good investment. read more

The grooming salon, Sedina and Sasha are the worst. I brought in my dog that had a scab on it's back. I told Petsmart when I initially called my dog had a scab on her back and I was told there would be no problem to groom her. Upon arrival for my dog's grooming appointment I was turned away even though the Banfield vet that I took my dog to said she was perfectly healthy. As I left the groomers at petsmart let at golden retriever in to groom that had a cone on and stitches down its back. Waste of my time and I will never go back to people that provide bad service. read more

I have taken my dog here several times but this last time I told them not to cut my puppy's hair too short and went over it for a long time with groomer. It cost $56 and the groomer didn't listen to a word I said. She totally buzzed his hair and he was so cold I had to buy him some sweaters. When I complained they only offered to pay for my $3 sweater. I would not recommend going there. I will never go again. read more

This review is for pet training only. We signed up for a 6 week training program with the PetsMart in Encinitas. We explained that our puppy then 9 weeks old only had two puppy shots and we were concerned about him catching Parvo. They told us that the room where the training would take place was disinfected. They also said that they checked to make sure the dogs were up to date with their shots. We did not realize the room was directly in from to the boarding kennels. Sometime it was hard to hear the trainer as the barking was so loud. A lot of the actual training was in the store itself, which was not disinfected, so we had to wait for the trainer to work with the other people then she would come in and give us some very brief instruction. On our fourth lesson a customer asked about training, so instead of someone else helping this customer the trainer helped the customer leaving us standing around for over 20 minutes. On his 5th lesson she left us in the room by ourselves for over a half hour. We finally walked out. Part of the reason we wanted to do puppy training was to give our puppy the opportunity to socialize with the other dogs. This was not allowed, non of the dogs were able to interact with the other dogs. I would NOT recommend PetsMart for pet training. Total crap!!! read more

3rd time I've came here around 8am to buy cat food. It works because it's open early before I have class. Employees are non existent at this location. I'll stick to Petco and just plan my trips so I can make it the night before instead of wasting time here. read more

my dog winko tags along with me on most of my san diego excursions, so after he accompanies me to the (dog-friendly) barnes&noble next door to petsmart, i feel like he deserves a little field trip for putting up with me all day. from the moment we walk through the doors of petsmart, winko knows he's in for a treat. he loves walking over to the chew toys aisle and picking out the smelliest most disgusting little treats ever (pigs ears, cow hooves, rawhide, etc). sometimes when we visit petsmart, we come across the little puppy training class, but although i think the silly little puppies are adorable, winko's always in a hurry to get to his special section. petsmart also carries a wide selection of fish, birds, lizards, rodents (but no dogs or cats). they occasionally sponsor adoptions of dogs/cats/bunnies through local aspca though. read more

This is a review for the Pet Grooming. I recenty took my dog here for the first time. I made an online appointment on their Petsmart.com website and was able to get a same day appointment with Tracy. As soon as I arrived, she took my dog Aspen and made her feel very welcome and at ease. Aspen quickly warmed up to her and went into the grooming area happily on her own. Aspen had a bath and brush with a Furminator treatment. After I picked up Aspen a couple of hours later, she seemed happy and was very clean and soft. Also, we noticed that the Furminator treatment worked wonders, and all over the weekend, I barely saw any pet hair on my dark hardwood floors! My floor still looks clean! Also, we noticed her fur was extremely soft to the touch, like a puppy's fur! I removed one start due to the website online appointment app, where I never received email confirmation if my appointment went through. read more

So glad we found this place! My husband and I have 2 large lab mix dogs that absolutely hate their nails being trimmed. It's gotten to the point where my husband has troubles restraining them, but lucky Petsmart has a great grooming facility that trims your dog' nails for $9 or get them grinded for $12. We went with the grinding and they did so much better and got their nails nice and short. We will definitely be coming back here monthly. Well worth the money! read more

I have always shopped at Pet Smart but never felt compelled to write a review until now. My review is based solely off of one guy named Eddie who works in the FIsh Department. This guy is GREAT and deserves a raise! Eddie not only helped pick out my new fish but also took the time to explain how to setup, clean and maintain the aquarium. I have since been back in the store and had similar experiences with Eddie. I would strongly suggest you ask for Eddie if you are planing on buying fish or equipment. I hope the guy plans on staying in that store because he really makes the customer buying experience great. read more

5 stars for grooming. Same day scheduling, friendly, thorough, reasonably priced service. Several packages to choose from.

I go to this petsmart very often for fish. The employees are very nice and helpful. Most of them know what they're talking about and have lots of personal experience with animals. They are always helpful in helping you find the best quality and deals. The only thing I dislike about this store is the fact that they sell very abusive animal products, such as fish bowls smaller than a gallon. That is the fault of corporate though, and not the specific location. read more

My dog is terrified of nail trimmings and will typically bark her head off in protest.
