I came into this PetSmart location yesterday morning and was greeted as soon as I walked in by a worker named Talia. I was coming in to return some cat food I had just bought, as my sweet kitty Tofu passed away over the weekend. I was having a horrible day and Talia made my experience so easy- she was so helpful in returning my items and also talked with me about my cat. I showed her pictures of Tofu and it felt so good to be able to talk about him and share funny stories. The compassion she showed me and the genuine concern is something I won't forget. My pup Honey goes to Doggie Day camp almost every day - Tabitha , Allison, Morgan , Chloe ( everyone actually ) is amazing. They treat Honey as if she was their own . Every time I bring him in for grooming, the team manages to successfully clip and grind his nails -- no small feat, considering how challenging that can be. They always trim his coat in a way that suits his breed perfectly, and their attention to detail really shows. Great customer service! We used to go to Petco because it was closer but Petco now refuses to sell 10 crickets at a time because they are having a corporate competition to sell 40 (and now 50) crickets at a time. We have two geckos that don't eat more than 10 crickets every feeding. Petsmart is more than happy to sell us 10. read more

There was a little lady named Sarah who greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. Very friendly and polite. I told her I was from out of town but had a very sick baby kitten that I needed to get prescription food for and I didn't know what I was doing. Sarah went above and beyond to help me find exactly what I was looking for, helped me since it was prescribed food and she also rang me up and told me some useful information about getting more kitten food for my baby and also said she hopes my baby kitten feels better. I'm from Arizona and just here visiting with my baby kitten Koral but when I come back to visit and need something pet related I will definitely come back here and hopefully Sarah will be here next time. Oh my goodness, we just got a rescue puppy who has some trauma and is very scared. I cannot tell you how special and sweet Trea treated her. Long story there was a slight issue with her anxiety. Then Trea just held her and made her comfortable and got her through the whole grooming experience and she looks amazing. I will definitely be back. Update-3/10/24 Brought our dog back for his grooming & Grooming Dept Mgr Sabina felt it would be ok to instigate me upon cking in. I waited until I got back home to call her & inquire why she felt it was ok to stir the pot about our last visit when she already knows I'm not happy. Funny- she only addressed his teeth not being brushed. She "Guaranteed" that his teeth were brushed at his last appt. I ignored her unnecessary comments. She is the one my Son called the day after the injury to notify of the injury & teeth not being brushed. But she made zero mention of our dogs injury to his private part at his last grooming appt by Groomer Brenna D. (I have pics of his injury) Her response was that I shouldn't bring Buddy back and that I complain after every grooming-Which is NOT TRUE. She told me to call the Store mgr tomorrow. We've been bringing our dog here for 11 mths. Never had a problem until our last appt. Guess she should sharpen her mgmt customer service skills. She should be Apologizing instead of calling me a liar. My 22 yr old Son is a witness to our dogs injury & my phn conversation with Sabina on 3-10-24. I'm really disappointed in PetSmart Encinitas. When we went to Pk up our dog-Sabina was not there. A male employee brought us our dog & we left. I paid full price online. NEVER have they ever apologized for my dog being injured! I would encourage Petsmart to pull camera footage of my drop off at 2pm on 3-10-24 in the grooming dept. Sad, very sad Jan 28, 2024- Our dog was cut on his private part during the grooming by Brenna D and I was NOT notified. The tip of his private part was obviously nicked by clippers. His teeth weren't brushed as paid for with no explanation. We didn't notice the injury until that evening. This might be the first bad review I've ever written. I really hate giving them, but my dog's grooming appointment was soo bad today . I asked them to give my dog a haircut (not to shave her), and she came out with the most uneven shave I've ever seen. I did ask for a 5 blade which they said was pretty short, but they could've told me that it was going to look like a shave (which I specially said I didn't want them to do). They didn't even touch her tail, and the shave wasn't blended at all. I wish I could've gotten a refund, this was not worth the $80. Update: I called and they did refund it! read more

This past week, I took my 10-month puppy to a group training on Pet Smart, Encinitas. Before the class, I called Petsmart and I was told to come to class and talk to the trainer first to make sure it was the right fit for my puppy. I arrived 15 minutes before the class started, as recommended by the person on the phone, and asked to talk to the trainer, Leslie Amen. She came out and Leslie was very short and curt with me. She informed me that she had no time to talk to me and I had to wait until the beginning of the class. Therefore, I waited to talk with her while she was welcoming the clients and their dogs who had signed up for the class. Leslie was very kind and friendly to them. She petted the dogs and gave them compliments. I was getting excited to take a class with such a nice trainer. Once it was my turn to talk to her, she immediately changed her tone and attitude. She was short with me and did not even look at my dog. I informed her that the newly rescued puppy was from Mexico and her vaccines were done in Mexico. "That's what was afraid of" she said. She told me she could not accept any of the vaccines. Leslie said that the vaccine record was not even from a "real veterinarian" (I assure you that they have "real veterinarians" in Mexico). Her attitude and approach shocked me. It wasn't the issue that she said that the vaccines could not be accepted, but it was her demeanor toward me. I felt dismissed and embarrassed, as this was in front of everyone in the class. Truth be told, as the only person of color in the class, I had the bad and sinking feeling that maybe this was influencing how she was treating me. I've been down that road before. At this moment, I didn't feel welcome attending and I could tell I was not going to be given any options or empathy. From the beginning, Leslie did not treat me with the respect that she treated the other clients. This was especially shocking, as I have been coming to this store for many years for dog food and supplies. That won't happen ever again because after this, I will not go to Petsmart. The experience was so negative that I do not recommend using this trainer at all and I hope that somebody explains to her that is not alright to treat people with disrespect and dismissal when you are in a customer service role. During the entire interaction, I was polite and positive--there was no factual reason for her attitude. The next day I went to Petco and talked to their veterinarian. I was informed by a "real veterinarian" in a very kind manner that it is *only* the rabies shot from Mexico that is not valid in United States -- all the other shots are accepted by kennels, training facilities and veterinarian offices. Petco provided information on where to get the approved rabies shot and I was treated with respect and kindness. You might want to try Petco dog training and other services instead of Petsmart if you have rescued a dog from a border rescue, as well as if you are someone who expects to be treated like everyone else when in the store. read more

I brought my dogs to be washed and have their nails trimmed, when I picked them up, I suspected my dogs had not been washed. When they are shampooed, they typically have some cowlicks no matter how well they are dried. They also seem to have a little moisture close to the skin... They smell the same when I picked them up as they did when I drop them off, and the nails did not seem any shorter, and still make the same clacking sound on my wood floors as they did before dropping them off. This reminded me of a time when I was dropping them off at this location, a woman was complaining that she felt her much smaller lapdog had not been shampooed... For $83. It seems they should do the job. read more

This was my home pet store when we lived in La Costa. We have cats and always would come here for food, litter, toys and the occasional Halloween costume or Christmas hat. We moved further inland and adopted a puppy. I checked out reviews and decided to sign my puppy up for Leslie Amen's Puppy training class as soon as she was old enough. Jasmine has really flourished in her classes. We are in the middle of our third course. Leslie is the best trainer. My pup loves her, is so excited to see her every week, and always listens to her (better than she listens to us sometimes!) Leslie has also taught us a ton about how to be good dog parents and to set our puppy up for success. Jasmine is so much more confident and loves to learn. We'll keep Jasmine in training as long as there are new things to learn! Leslie goes above and beyond for everyone in her class. Every pet and parent get individual attention and if a dog isn't quite understanding of something she finds a way to come at the behavior from another angle. read more

Since moving to this area 2 months ago, I've been here about 5 times. We got a bigger aquarium here along with all the stuff you need for aquarium decorating and maintenance. I purchased one of the igloos so our dog could rest outside while my mom was away at work. This was necessary because our dog was really sick, and making a mess in the house. Unfortunately, just 24 hours after the purchase, we discovered our dog had a tumor and we needed to put her down. When I called Petsmart to discuss the refund, The team lead, Charlie, was extremely empathetic and allowed me to return the igloo after I returned from my business trip. I love this Petsmart! The staff is always kind and helpful. I've been coming here for about 20 years. When my last dog passed, I quickly signed my new dog up for classes here as well. We met Leslie, the trainer, who is awesome! She is so good- she's like having a boxing coach sitting in the corner to pick up on stuff you don't realize you're doing and coach you through it. I have aha moments every class! Leslie is also super funny too, so it's like going to comedy club each week. Along with puppy, beginner, intermediate and advanced, you can get your dog accredited with the Canine Good Citizen award. My favorite fun class is Brain Games. They learn to read cue cards like sit and down. My dog also learned colors blue and yellow. I highly recommend them all! read more

DO NOT BUY FISH HERE!! I'm so frustrated. I bought 2 fish from there 2 weeks ago, along with tank, water treatment, food, etc for my son. He was so excited. We did everything by the book and they were both dead in 10 days. I returned to the store and told them what happened. I explicitly said "how can we prevent this from happening again?" They said "sometimes we get fish in that are already sick. See this fish in this tank? See those white spots on its tail? That is called Ich. We quarantine it and medicate it." So we then choose 2 more fish and I also see spots on their tails but they are very small. Looked more like sparkles. I didn't say anything because they must my monitor these fish, right? Wrong. 2 days later there were spots all over their bodies. We returned to the store and inquired about it. They said bring them back or buy meds. We bought meds. My son didn't want to give up on his new fish. 36 hours later, they are both dead. read more

Seemed to be a starter job for the grooming department. Two of the groomers could only complete trimming/grinding nails for 1 paw for my 15 pound dog "Romeo" as they said he seemed uncomfortable; and I could bring him back daily to get acclimated. Not an option. Very disappointing, especially when Petsmart in Oceanside off the 76 had no problems trimming his nails! Best of luck to the Encinitas groomers. I dread visiting this PetSmart but since my cat requires prescription cat food, I am forced to come every 2 weeks. Some employees are nice and helpful, however this is extremely inconsistent. Many, including the worst one - Gillian, are rude, condescending and act like they are the pet police. Gillian has an attitude from the beginning and will find any way not to make your experience a positive one. On multiple occasions, she has been so abrasive that I've left wondering how she has a job, let alone how they are still in business?! How does Banfield allow this to go on with their partnership with PetSmart? I also own a freshwater fish tank but no longer purchase fish from this place. 3 out of 5 fish I purchase usually die within their first week. They are good about returning them and replacing with new ones, but it's a hassle to bring them back with the receipt. The poor maintenance of their aquariums are the reason for this, so now I choose to buy fish elsewhere. read more

This review is for the grooming. We Just moved to Encinitas and brought our Beagle for wash. We brought him in at 11am. They said they would call us in a couple of hours. Not hearing from them for several hours I called them. I was told "oh sorry, we washed him then I had to go to lunch so I left Milo in the cage dryer" - For 4hours!!!!! My poor dog was thirsty, itching and scratching and clingy and wouldn't get up that whole day. I complained to the manager and said that was inhumane and irresponsible. No follow up call, no apologies. No explanation action. Not to mention they still got paid full price. Not to mention despite the extra "Shedding treatment" Milo was shedding terribly, and still didn't even smell like any shampoo was used. Never going back. Going back to Petco. read more

I came here to grab some kitty food for my little furry burden Sophia. She is super picky and she only likes one kind. I had no idea that Merrick brand was not sold in PetSmart but only in Petco. That is so weird to me. Oh well, I found a small bag of something she used to eat and so I went ahead and got that so I wouldn't have to waste more time that day hunting for cat chow. The store itself was clean and well laid out. I did find it a bit hard to find an associate to assist me. Which is sort of unheard of as usually I am being hunted down with helpful folks. The only reason I'll give them 2 stars is because Leslie is a great trainer. She's a five star trainer and that should tell you what I think of the new people working in the store. Note guys- you are supposed to be customer service oriented and friendly not petulant and bothered by folks shopping there. They did sell out of the Royal Canin brand dog food that my puppy likes, but they told me that it's due to production halt because of the pandemic, which is understandable. I have a Small standard poodle (Moyen) who's grooming has been neglected for 3-4 mos due to my back injury and recent surgery. I usually groom her myself and know exactly how I want it done. I had my daughter take her in with specific instructions(actual diagram drawing) but didn't really know what to expect. She came back looking amazing! Changed from a raggedy muppet to an elegant , graceful dog that she is. They did everything I asked and I'm very happy with the results! This place has an animal hospital, pet hotel, grooming salon, training center and pretty much every brand that your pet could possibly need, all at a reasonable price. OMG this is a huuuuuuge PetSmart. The other place didn't have mats for Joey's dishes so I went across the way and went into this shopping center which is enormous (Target at one end) and bopped into PetSmart. They have absolutely everything you could think of needing for dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish and probably chipmunks. And of course Joey is welcome and he loves sniffing the lower racks. We had a great lady groom our new mini golden doodle puppy her first two grooms. We were very disappointed when we dropped her off for our third groom to find it wasn't the same lady. We were told she was the only one qualified to do the actual hair cut, which means the other groomers are not even fully qualified. The lady was unfriendly and not pleasant, which probably scared our puppy. She refused to finish the grooming because our puppy bit her while trying to blow dry, which I understand biting is not okay. However, I asked why she didn't inform us it was going to be someone different because I would have rescheduled. She was rude and unprofessional. She said she didn't even know if our original lady was ever coming back, who our dog had no problems with. I picked up a wet, terrified dog who wasn't even groomed. We will not be returning. Petco Encinitas needs to hire reliable groomers who are actually trained to do the job. read more
