I called today to ask about dropping off a fish because we are moving and cant take the fish with us. The lady that answered was so beyond rude. I never leave bad reviews but Im so shocked on how she talked to me. When i was just asking a genuine question. Go to petco they are better all around and wont yell at you. read more

Petsmart couldn't care less about the health of their animals. The poor fish look sickly, and the betas look like they're about to croak. They also put sick animals in a dark closet. disgusting!! please don't support this business. on top of all that though, we are in the midst of a pandemic and during my entire visit i did not see proper cleaning from the employees. go at your own risk. read more

Very disappointed in the way the Encinitas Petsmart has treated owners of cats in reference to grooming! I've had my cat previously groomed at this location & Prior to today, cats were groomed there Thursdays by appointment, during certain times in order to keep them safe from Dogs. Apparently now they're only taking care of dogs and they're no longer going to groom cats. A bit discriminating to only care for dogs in the Encinitas store (1034 n el Camino )when they're are cats nearby as well. Disappointed in this chains choice to discontinue grooming for cats and only service dogs ! Won't be shopping this store or any PetSmart any more due to this ... Why shop here ? Instead I'll be going elsewhere to groom my cats(3) & dogs (2) & take ALL MY BUISNESS " where ALL my pets are welcomed for grooming !!! read more

We had a great lady groom our new mini golden doodle puppy her first two grooms. We were very disappointed when we dropped her off for our third groom to find it wasn't the same lady. We were told she was the only one qualified to do the actual hair cut, which means the other groomers are not even fully qualified. The lady was unfriendly and not pleasant, which probably scared our puppy. She refused to finish the grooming because our puppy bit her while trying to blow dry, which I understand biting is not okay. However, I asked why she didn't inform us it was going to be someone different because I would have rescheduled. She was rude and unprofessional. She said she didn't even know if our original lady was ever coming back, who our dog had no problems with. I picked up a wet, terrified dog who wasn't even groomed. We will not be returning. Petco Encinitas needs to hire reliable groomers who are actually trained to do the job. read more

I made an order from PetSmart that was to be delivered today. I then received an email with delivery for tomorrow. I called the store to see if they could add another item and was told I would have to call door dash. I then told her to just cancel the order which they have already charged me for. She was arrogant and rude!! They lost me as a customer. read more

Nice helpful staff. Friendly. Good cleanup stuff for pet mistakes. Good signage. Good not great safety. Dented cans on every shelf. More and more from China, now all collars. So not supporting US or friendly countries and selling risky products. Cheaper US made and better products at smaller chains, in particular dog beds. Weird clicker training no book or trainer uses. Adoption rules that don't allow some life long pet owners to adopt. They have what we need for food and we avoid the dents and dog likes it. read more

Our doggy absolutely loves Pet Hotel at this location! Employees are very nice and always seem to recognize our fur child. When we go on vacations instead of feeling guilty for leaving our dog behind we feel happy for her as just the word "PetSmart " gets her ears perk up and she is ready to go. We usually pay for doggy day camp as well so she can have play time with other dogs read more

Don't bring your animal to the hotel here if you care about their wellness and safety. They charge so much just to keep your dog in a prison. My dog came out sick and they refused to take any responsibility. There is nothing sanitary about this hotel. They keep the dog locked up in a cage with 10 minutes of "play time" a day. They want to charge significantly more for 10 more minutes of play time. My dogs bolted out of the store. I brought them here previously and they both came out with bloody stool from the extent of the stress they endure. They are not caring and compassionate towards animals, even though they are a facility specifically for animals. read more

PetSmart - Happy on his/my pillow!! - Pet Stores Near Me - Encinitas, California

PetSmart is obviously a company that cares less about it's customers. As they are currently using the current Covid crisis to get over on its customers. They are currently accepting no returns due the current Pandemic, regardless of that which is being attempted to be returned. So, if your like me and you accidentally bought the wrong product, your SOL and stuck with that which you bought. I might see their position better if the product had been removed from its sealed packaging, but that was not my case, as my product was still sealed in it's packaging, yet still no return. NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE PETSMART. read more

My recent visit to the Encinitas PetSmart was the first and last time I will shop at that location. The staff were rude, condescending, presumptuous, and overall unwelcoming. I am using Yelp to make others aware of the grossly poor customer service that is apparently replete in this specific store location. Typically I shop at a different PetSmart location and always enjoy my interactions with the staff. They are both kind and courteous. I have enjoyed the store and their charity mission to the extent that I have donated money in support of their non-profit. On this Saturday, it was convenient for me to shop at the Encinitas location. I was returning unused (and clean!) items I recently purchased for my new puppy. When I first entered the store I approached the on-duty manager and requested to return the items. His demeanor was immediately rude and presumptuous. He questioned me as though to insinuate I had stolen the items. I showed him my receipts as proof and informed him the location where I had purchased the items. Reluctantly, he allowed me to return what I had purchased for store credit. He showed me where to go and who to speak with to process the transaction. I stood in line for about fifteen minutes. Finally, the cashier I approached had the same attitude towards me. She was an older women in about her mid-fifties. She looked at me and questioned me as though I might have stolen the items and was a criminal. She had the nerve to tell me to go the store where I purchased the items to process the return. Can you imagine being spoken to like that in a busy store filled with many people? I felt humiliated. They made me feel like a common criminal. I was so embarrassed I quickly left the store in tears and went to the location I typically shop to return my pet supplies. I am a young petite female. I was dressed casually, but nice. (I mean it was a Saturday afternoon. I was not wearing my business suit.) I carry myself and speak professionally. There is no reason I can think of that should have made those people think I was trying to steal from their store. Maybe they have a shoplifting problem at that location and have started profiling shoppers. Either way, what they did was extremely unprofessional and unwarranted. Do not shop here. read more

The worst customer I have experienced. Charlie was extremely rude and refused to help me. I have high praise for Leslie's basic training course. So does my dog, who loves Leslie and does whatever she asks, or so much as subtly signals. Before the course has finished, Squirmy has already learned better manners and is less reactive toward other dogs, while I am learning how to be a more consistent pet parent. At age 2, Squirmy has a lot of years ahead of her, so better behavior will make both of our lives better. My dog is a very energetic Chihuahua who was abandoned in Mexico where a rescue organization saved her. She was loving but scared and insecure. Once she became settled at our home, her energy levels skyrocketed and boy has she been a handful. The training is essential to channeling that energy. Squirmy is sensitive to humans' moods and happy when she does things right and gets praised. The Petsmart course is very affordable ($200 if you choose two 6-week courses). In one hour a week, we accomplish a lot, and I'm glad the classes aren't longer because we all get tired. There's also a printed booklet detailing each week's lessons and homework for reinforcing the behavior, which you can refer to again and again. Leslie seems to understand each dog's nature and personality and her manner is direct but gentle, humorous and confident. She has made sure Squirmy keeps a distance from the other dogs so as to not set off her reactiveness. I was worried Squirmy would get kicked out of obedience school, but Leslie kept that from happening. I highly recommend this program! read more

Jill at the pets hotel is extremely rude. Also will never take my dogs to the groomers again. Both my dogs are traumatized. They cut one of their nails too short. This review is for PetSmart in Encinitas, California - Encinitas #144 Let me fist say how horrible the manager - Tanner is by misleading new customers. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, QUIT. We got a new puppy - English Bulldog who is 8 months ago and she is all up-to-date on all her vaccinations, etc. However, the trick is she used to be named Bella, we renamed her to Diega. 5 days ago PetSmart manager Tanner told me he wasn't able to verify that Bella and Diega is the SAME dog...blahh blahh blahh.... We are going to call Bandfield again... blah blahhh. Ok. I am going to a business trip tomorrow at 8 AM and will be gone till Monday night. Decided to call PetSmart to confirm we are good to go, Tanner tells me YOU CANT BOARD your dog because I wasn't able to verify it's the same dog. Seriously!!! You had 5 days to call me and advise what I was supposed to do. How am supposed to know what needs to be done??? I have the paperwork, what really needs to be done now?? I am currently considering a lawsuit against Petsmart for the horrendous problems they have caused me and my beloved chihuahua. I took her in to get her nails done and said specifically DO NOT TOUCH HER ANAL GLANDS. I picked her up and saw an extra charge. I asked why this was more expensive than my normal cost, they said they went ahead and did her anal glands. Ugh!! Of course I got mad on the spot and they removed the charge, but the damage was already done. If you perform anal gland release on your dog (unless they actually need it) it can potentially (and very likely) cause an huge amount of problems. Now my dog is constantly uncomfortable and has to get her anal glands released once a month and anal antibiotic injections ever since that horrible day. She never had a rectal problem before that day, and the problems started about 4 days later. The trauma is causes her is terrible and I hate putting her through it, she almost has a heart attack every single time, just because some dipshit employee wanted to be able to charge an extra $15 or whatever the cost was. It's terrible knowing my dog has to now suffer so much because that idiot decided to rack up a bill. If you take your dog here to get their nails trimmed (and if they havnt had their anal glands released before), attach a huge paper onto your dog saying "DO NOT RELEASE ANAL GLANDS". Because just telling them obviously isn't enough. If they try to sell you on anal gland release even knowing your dog has never had that problem, promptly punch that employee in the face and spit on them. I wish I did that in the first place. I've never hated someone more than that person. I'm writing this review after all this happened and after all the damage has already been done, I wish I kept the receipt and took down that employee's name, maybe their home address too. One of my biggest regrets in life was not seeking legal or even personal revenge immediately after this happened. It is astonishing how much suffering that PetSmart employee was willing to inflict on my pet's life for the rest of her life just for an extra $30. There's a special layer of hell for that employee. Thank God I don't have that person's name or information. read more

This is seriously by far the BEST Petsmart I have ever been to! I have a brand new puppy that I have been taking here since she was 4 months old to the Banfield Pets hospital... They are amazing! They make me feel so comfortable when Pepper is in their care. The PetCamp/Pethotel is by far the best place ever!!!! Jen,Michelle,Tanner,Nicole and Tabitha are basically second family to my puppy Pepper! They are so amazing and take such good care of her when I have super long days at work.... I even will take her for half days just so she can play in the AC with all her camp pups!!! Leslie the pet trainer is also amazing ! She has known Pepper also since she was a baby and loves teaching her new things when walking threw camp:) I can't rave enough about how amazing the service is at this location and all the people that work there ! It is the coolest feeling when you walk in the store and everyone says "Hi Pepper!" And my puppy loves it !!!! If you have been on the fence about camp or anything ... Had a really hard time finding any employees to help me with their dog food selections. The only employees I saw was one cashier at the front with a decent line of customers, the groomers, and then the pet hotel employees. It was really hard to try to figure out what dog food would've been best because they had so much available, and it's all put together so that it doesn't take up a ton of space. It was kind of overwhelming. I asked one of the pet hotel employees if there was somebody available to assist me in finding a good dog food, and no one ever came to help me; stood and waited for a while. read more

Let me start out with the fact that my dog is my baby! I am really picky on who watches her and haven't spent very many nights away from her! We just moved to the area and needed somewhere for our pup to burn all of her energy. We found that the pethotel has a doggie day camp and we couldn't beat the price! We take her there daily and know most of the staff by name. My husband had to leave for work and I needed to go home to visit family. This left me stressing on who could watch my pup! The answer was under my nose the whole time. The manager Jenn and her staff (Stephanie to be exact) went above and beyond to make Arbor and myself feel extremely comfortable. After the expereince we had I KNOW I will be using this pethotel for life! Thanks again for making Arbor feel like family! read more

I've been taking my Chocolate Lab Henry to Petsmart Encinitas since I rescued him 2 years ago for Overnight Stays, Doggie Day Camp and Grooming. I have NEVER had any issues like the ones I have read in the other reviews. The Daycamp Staff are respectful and seem like they know how to work with the Big Boys like mine... Grooming...he's a Lab! He's a big guy with no "HAIR" just fur...but the Furminator/Bath he gets are great! They do exactly what needs to be done and I have never had an issue... I would definately recommend anyone to bring their pooch here for services/daycamp/overnight stays. read more

We've had used PetSmart hotel before the pandemic, and at most 5 days stay, but this time after the pandemic, and getting our vaccines we wanted to visit our family & friends, so we left Coco with PetSmart hotel for 10 days. Our Coco is 14 yrs old Shih Tzu/ Havanese. So I thought at her age, all day Day camp was going to be too tiring for Coco so I've chosen 1/2 day every day Day camp for Coco. When we picked Coco after 10 days, we were just so excited to see her so I didn't realized until she sat on my lap in the car that her nose looked really dry with crack & crusty top. Was it because she was so dehydrated? or constant sleeping in her kennel? Did PetSmart neglect her in the kennel?! Unfortunately we can not be sure she was even taken out of the kennel for her 1/2 day Day camp everyday. Very very disappointed with her stay at the Petsmart this time. read more

Petsmart Encinitas now offers Doggie Daycare and boarding! I dropped my Buddy off at Doggie Daycare and much to my surprise, the Pets Hotel is run by a previous manager from the La Jolla store. Buddy and I were THRILLED to see Michelle behind the desk! I left my pooch knowing he would be in great hands. My boy blended well with the other small dogs at camp and as usual, he hammed it up to any passers-by looking through the large glass walls. Buddy was exhausted when I picked him up that afternoon. It is obvious that the Pets Hotel associates love what they do, when I peeked in the window, the camp associate was playing fetch with a tireless and shy Aussie while simultaneously petting a talkative Heinz 57. Every encounter at the Pets Hotel has been pleasant. If you are looking for a nice climate controlled (and CLEAN) camp for your pooch, Encinitas PetSmart is the place for you. Generally super nice people who are happy to help. Many of the workers in the pet care department remember your pet and give you details about your pet's behavior. Docking 1 star because a bad apple slipped through their cracks... Apparently if you call to book daycare, someone in a different department may/will answer the phone. The young-sounding woman who answered the phone seemed completely bothered by my inquiry and came back after putting me on hold with the wrong information. I made the mistake of interjecting to clarify something that the worker didn't seem to be aware of, because it was plainly heading to a dead end, and she reprimanded me for 'cutting her off'. The entire phone conversation, including my interjection, had been polite and downright chipper on my end. If you work in a customer service industry, you have to feel out the conversation a bit better than that. If you are misinformed, and the customer is trying to clarify something so that neither of you waste anymore time than necessary on the phone, just let them talk. If it turns out they were wrong, politely continue on with that you were going to say. As someone who deals with patrons every day, I would NEVER tell a friendly, cheerful patron that they cut me off when I was talking. It is hostile and off-putting. A truly bizarre exchange. Perhaps she was having a bad day, which is why this place still receives 4 stars from me. But if any managers are reading this review, please make sure your employees are properly trained for phone calls--maybe run through some scenarios! read more

Purchased fish for my aquarium and had to return several fish. The first issue was that I explained to the employee that I had a betta fish in a ten gallon and was looking for some tank mates, and that I had researched that both neon tetras and Cory catfish were acceptable. The employee explained that these fish were best kept in schools, so I purchased four tetras and three catfish. I did notice the number of dead fish in each tank as the employee was scooping out the fish, and I should have halted the purchase at that point (hindsight is always a different view). I returned later and purchased four more tetras, and was cautioned against overfilling the tank with fish. The same employee diligently explained to me that I should have one fish per gallon. Due to her advice, I did not purchase any more fish and discovered tetra bodies in my tank for the next couple of days. I wound up returning four tetras plus the three catfish in fear that my betta was killing them. The next day my betta died. I was told by both petsmart and Petco employees that the amount of fish and the types of fish I had in my tank were suitable for bettas. After further, in depth research, I learned afthat bettas cannot live with any other fish due to stress. Before this experience I had a glowing, healthy betta fish. I wish that Petsmart would educate employees on betta care. Just as I stopped purchasing more fish due to the advice of the employee, I would have not put fish in with my betta at all to begin with if I was instructed not to. I cannot help but also be concerned about the high number of dead fish in the tanks at this location. The woman who sold me the fish even commented that "It's hard to scoop around the dead ones". I still do not know if my betta died due to stress or disease after putting these fish in the same tank with him. I would like to see this location do a better job at perhaps checking the tanks for dead fish and removing them. It seems like a simple daily task.... read more

PetSmart - My formerly healthy and beautiful betta - Pet Stores Near Me - Encinitas, California

I LOVED THIS PETSMART UNTIL TODAY!!! I have recently bought a fish tank along with all the requirements to set it up along with bunch of fish from this store. Every time that I have gone there the staff were very professional, patient and knew a great amount of information about the fish and it's requirements. I was very happy with everything until today. Today I went to the store to buy some new fish and had a couple of questions about the glow fish or the other pretty fish that they keep at the front of the store in those little cups. Soon someone came to help but since they didn't know a lot about fish they called a supervisor to come and help us. She comes and from the start she has a FAT attitude. I proceed to ask if I can keep one of these fish with other fish in my tank and she says no since they tend to be a bit aggressive towards other fish and it's better if you keep them by themselves but then she says but I mean if you have a 20 galloon and more it might be fine. Which I said oh I have a 20 galloon and she says oh well do u have a lot of decorations and I said yeah and she says well that might be fine then. So I asked if I could purchase the fish and is he starts being aggressive towards other fish could I come and return it (because OBVIOUSLY I don't want to have an aggressive fish in a tank with bunch of other fish because I don't want to harm my fish.)So she goes on and says " WELL TECHNICALLY, we told you that ur not supposed to put them with other fish so TECHNICALLY that's against the policy"with a big fat attitude.... Umm.... what? So can I have them in the 20 galloon tank or no? Because you just said it was fine and now you're saying no it's not! Now I am not the type to just go ahead and talk badly of someone but if you can't handle a couple of simple questions then don't answer them! As much as I loved the two other people that helped me pick my tank and educated me about them, I will not return to this location! read more
