This review is only on their dog training and customer service. My Siberian husky pup went through beginner training with Amanda. He is my very first puppy ever! Amanda did a great job showing us how to practice commands with our dog. The class was only for 6 weeks at 1hr per week. The price was decent. The training process will take more than just a beginner class, so don't expect the trainer to wave a magic wand and boom your dog is fully trained after 6 hours. It all depends on your dog's breed. Some dogs like the poodles, Maltipoo, chipoo...and the smaller breeds that you can put in your purse are usually easier to train. The Maltipoo in my group followed command instantly, but my husky doesn't. He pretty much just sat there, watch and smile the whole time, but once when we're home, he will do as I asked( if he feels like it!!). He did, however decided to listen on the last day of class!!! I knew that would happen going into training because huskies are one of the most stubborn breed and very difficult to train. So I recommend read up on your dog's breed and see if he's one of those stubborn ones. If so, don't expect results right away. Doesn't matter where you take him to be trained, its going to take time because they're stubborn and will follow commands when they want to not when they're told. This is the worse location with staff and customer service. Raine especially. These people have no shame in lying to you and making false policies just to turn your dogs away at closing time. They are far the most rudest staff I have ever met. Save your money and do not book here especially with Raine. They call a fake manager to ensure these polices that don't even exist. I asked for proof of there policy of why they are turning my dogs away, they couldn't provide it literally said "I don't know where to find the policy but I am sure it's somewhere" when asked to provide it and makeup for the lost time. Raine responded no we will not do anything because of how you are acting you will not be allowed back into this store. I was stating my point and clearly they did not like it. My sister came into contact with a very rude employee, he was a tall older man with white hair. Today she asked employee to use the restroom for her 5 year old and 2 year old son and he was very dismissive of her request. He stated he was busy but yet there were no other customers in sight so she just waited in line. While she waited one customer came and asked her if she was in line and she said no just waiting on keys to the restroom because her children need to use the bathroom. The employee then proceeded to call on the phone if anyone had keys at that time, so now we can assume he never asked on her first request. After a while he blurts out come but never direct this to her so he repeats himself with a loud tone and harsh attitude " to follow him" and opens the men's bathroom. Turns out he had the keys in his pocket the whole time and just made my my sister and her two children wait. After he opens the men's bathroom, my sister asked if they could use the women's and he proceeds to tell her that he cannot do that because it's California State Law do not allow boys in women's bathroom. I,myself, a mother have never heard of such thing. Can corporate follow up with this statement? My sister felt very discriminated against since the start as he was giving her attitude when she first initiated contact, then he proceeded to deliberately make her wait when the whole time he was not preoccupied with anything but making her wait. He then comes up with some lies about California State Law prohibiting boys ( again ages 5 & 2) from being in the women's bathroom. In addition to this, this man saw that my sister was pregnant and since this incident my sister had been feeling ill. If you know anything about pregnancy is that stress level and emotional incidents stress and have a major impact on a baby. Petsmart needs to find better employees. I have been a customer for years and spent so much over the years on all of my pets, but never will I shop here again. I loved Petsmart, but this location ruined it for me. (Today around 4pm) I ordered a bunch of food online for the Santee store, but some cans I wanted were out of stock there, so I ordered those ones to pick up at the trashy El Cajon store. Just 6 cans, but i didn't pick them up in time so they went back on the shelf. Understandable, and Totally my fault I didn't know I had a 3 day limit. But give me my money back for the cans I didn't get. We are talking $5. Seriously. This guy, David or Daniel, was so rude and condescending. (White guy, Black hair, tall, wearing a black mask, about 30 years old) He told me I would have gotten an email saying my money was refunded. I did not get that email. He then said I would have never been actually charged, but the charge would have just dropped off. Wrong again. The transaction had ACTUALLY posted days ago. I told him if I was refunded, where is my proof...send me something because I have my receipt and my debit card transaction history to back up what I say. He said he couldn't send me anything and that Petsmart only gets it right 9 out of 10 times. He also told me Petsmart.com and Petsmart stores are not the same company. Really?! I said I will just take the stupid 6 cans now since I am already in the store and clearly paid for them. He told me I would have to pay for them again. Even though I have the proof on my email that I paid for them, and my online banking showing the posted transaction. He told me to call corporate and that he would not call them for me. I asked another older lady if she could help me, and she said to the rude guy "it's fine, I will give you a break" as if it's such a chore to be dealing with me and my order. She was somewhat nicer, but was just making stuff up as she went along, and also told me to just call customer service. I called corporate from the parking lot, and they looked into it, and of course, he was in the wrong. I WAS NOT refunded the $5.81! I had paid for the items and should have been given the items!!! The nice lady on the phone went ahead and refunded me right away. It took her 2 minutes to be nice and look into my order and take care of my concerns, something the staff at this store didn't care to do at all. All the guy did was make up bs as he went along, when he had no idea what he was talking about. I just cannot believe the customer service (or lack of) at the El Cajon store. Came here today to grab a simple heat bulb for my tortoise and the doors were wide open. Grabbed what I needed and waited in like for a while as a line was beginning at the register. Got out of line to find an associate to help us. The dog trainer was EXTREMELY rude! Nothing but attitude stating that they're technically not allowed to be open yet so they can't open a register. Why have the doors open if you are closed for another 30 minutes? The worst service ever. They said my dog was aggressive? My appointment was at 2:30 and I was there at 2:40 she says you are ten minutes late and cannot take my dog? My dog has been going there for years! He's a long time customer and the "manager" was incredibly rude and condescending. When you have a bad experience you tell 10 People, and everyone knows now how terrible the service was. WORST SERVICE IVE HAD Came here yesterday to get my dog's nails trimmed (easy ten minute thing) they then decide to inform me I need to bring my dog's vaccine papers in with him which none of this was stated on their website. DO NOT GET YOUR PET GROOMED HERE! You have been warned. My cousin dropped off her Yorkie for a bath & haircut. Someone ended up calling 45 minutes later nervously saying that they couldn't cut her hair like she wanted bc the dog had "too many knots" (& a professional cant handle knots). & because of this, they said they couldn't cut her hair AT all, & had no more appointments for the rest of the week ... (Odd) This made no sense, why would they waste so much time to then tell us they couldn't do anything for her? Hmm, My cousin picked up the dog to which the lady at the store said they did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING... So she took the dog and left - A couple of days later, while taking Daisy(the dog) a shower, we noticed there was a little something floating in the water... It was a piece of HER EAR... Her EAR! It was then realized that they did indeed do something in those 45 minutes, they triedddd to de-knot & cut her hair.... And ended up chopping off a piece of EAR. They must have panicked & therefore called to say they couldn't do anything. This place still refuses to admit they did anything to her, but there are pictures to prove it. B I G hugo store gets one star!!! One star for the upstairs very clean bathroom... Minus three stars for the fact that the staff in the dog sitting area seemed over run and under staffed. Actually, the minus 3 stars is for poor management and NOT the workers. It was a HOLIDAY weekend! Staff up already... Not to mention that we told them that our beagle likes to eat my finicky cocker's food. He starved all weekend and she looked a little fatter. Again, I think that this is due to being under staffed. La Jolla location I have gone there for three years now, my dogs are ALWAYS well cared for there. Never any issues and they seem to know our dogs behaviors very well. This place is massive, clean and has plenty of parking. The prices are competitive and there are always sales going on. The staff is super friendly here. They'll ask you about your pet, suggest products, and make sure you have everything you need. There's a built in pet hotel, groomers, doggie day camp, vet and trainers! You can see the animals through windows, and there's a huge room that's usually filled with dogs for their socialization classes. The selection is also a big plus. The choice of foods, treats, and toys is nice. They also carry specialty foods that you'll need to have a prescription for from your vet. If my dog could actually form words I am quite certain she would be asking me to bring her to the El Cajon Petsmart everyday! my dog BeBe loves this place and everyone here seems to really love her too. The people that work here always come up to her and say hi and ask if they can give her treats and the customers are just as friendly and want to pet her and shower her with attention. Considering my dog is a little attention fiend she is more than happy to greet all that walk by her by shaking her entire body and wagging her tail. She prances around just waiting for the time when someone stops by to say hello and pet her. My favorite part about Petsmart is the staff here. They are knowledgeable about everything! I don't have to look for help because someone is always close by and offering assistance with everything from selecting a new food to choosing the correct shampoo. My dog is a Springer Spaniel/Cocker Spaniel mix. Since she looks just like a Springer (only half the size, like a Cocker) the Springer cut looks great on her. BeBe and I met with a groomer named Billie. She saw that my dog was overgrown and she took the time to discuss with me what I wanted for her summer cut. We decided against the traditional Springer cut due to the impending hot summer months. I was told to return in 2 hours to pick up my dog and away I went. When I returned Billie brought my dog out to me all clean and cut and with bows on her ears! Soooooo adorable!!! Billie understood exactly what I wanted done with my dogs coat and I was impressed!!! We decided to give ourselves a little break and put our husky into the PetSmart hotel for socialization with other dogs. We got her back and it's like she's like another dog. Being a husky who is a breed that is full of energy she has been very hyper, friendly and playful has turned into a dog that we don't even know very calm, skittish and apprehensive. She's no longer bugging for walks as she did nor wanting us to play with the ball or rope with her. I'm feeling really bad about taking her there because I have the feeling she did a lot of whining and howling. Clean store with friendly employees. We went in looking for several specific dog-related items, and had no trouble finding anything. We were approached by two employees during our time there, asking if we needed help finding anything, or if we had any questions, which I always appreciate. This location also has the PetHotel, which isn't common to every PetSmart. I took a peek into the hotel area, just out of curiosity, and it looked clean, though I don't know that I'd ever use their services. Not because I don't trust them, or the employees, I just feel better knowing my mongrels are with family or friends if we have to go out of town. At any rate, I do like this location, despite the fact that it's so far away from us. Like I said, it's clean and the employees are friendly. They were running a donation campaign to help pets who were displaced by the recent wildfires, which we happily contributed to. That's huge on my list - knowing that they care for all pets. I expect a big box pet store to be sub-par within the spectrum of pet stores. This particular location, however, is sub-par to my sub-par expectations. The prices are OK. I'm not really getting a deal, but whatever. I have several bones to pick with this store: 1. There are 5-6 check out lines available. Every time I have been here, there has only ever been ONE person working a check out lane. Which leads me to... 2. There is ALWAYS line to check out! And then there's this... 3. Anytime I think I'm getting an item on sale, it NEVER rings up at the discounted price. Which causes a whole other debacle. Also, a note to corporate: I have been punching in my darn phone number at checkout for nearly half of a decade at this point as part of some Rewards program... Walked in to get my dogs special dog food that they have been eating for years. They only sell this dog food at Pet Smart and requires a prescription from their vet. Our dogs are spoiled but are so deserving. They bring a lot of happiness to our family. This last visit the store was especially clean. I have walked in the past and have smelt dog poop and pee throughout the store. Hate that smell. I am pretty sure everyone else is on the same page as me on that one. When it's like that I don't stick around very long. This time though no dog poop and pee smell. Cool. The staff was also especially nice. Made me felt welcome. Usually no one says anything to me. This time smiles and HI's. Good job guys. Overall this is the only place I buy dog food, treats and dog supplies including toys. They have a great variety and I always see new dog things for my pet. Not sure about other animals. They probably have everything for other animals too but I know they have everything for dogs. They even have a pet hotel and pet grooming on site. Been coming here for a few months now for my dog's obedience training. Michelle is a WONDERFUL trainer with tons of experience and an obvious love of all dogs. The pups in her classes ADORE her, to the point of causing some serious jealousy with the owners "But why does he love Michelle more than ME?" Loki has completed basic and intermediate classes and starts advanced in a few weeks- the prices are much cheaper than some other places and we now have an extremely well behaved kid. The rest of the staff here are great and many of them now know my dog by name. All in all a great store with great staff. :) read more

Nyla and Allie have been amazing and I am still taking my fur babies there....this review is for the "store" - and especially for Mario. I frequent the store usually at least once a week whether it is bringing a pet to the Pet Salon or purchasing items for my fur kids. The other evening, Mario was especially helpful in my purchase of Billy + Margot dog food. The cashiers are always so nice and helpful and most of them recognize me now and ask how the fur kids are. My cute little Frenchie was traumatized at the grooming salon. Something happened during one of her visits to get her nails drimmeled and she started to shake every time her back. She is a sweet little girl but has refused to walk on a leash since she was a baby, so when I take her out she rides in a baby stroller. The groomer ( directed by the salon manager) refused to allow me hand her over so she could be carried over to the back room, instead I was forced to put her on the floor where she started to shake, desperate to get back in her stroller. I kept trying to explain calmly and rationally what Tinkerbell was experiencing and how to comfort her but the salon manager kept interrupting and mansplaining (really bad form for a woman!). Seeing the impact on my dog I politely told them both to cancel the appointment. I will NEVER take my dog to the El Cajon PetSmart again and if you love your dog, you shouldn't either. read more

This is the best pethotel/daycare. Three reasons: 1. The staff is incredible. They love dogs and you can tell they treat and love them like there own. Everything is always so friendly and understanding from the moment they say hello to when they hand you your pup at the end of there stay. 2. You can't beat the price. 30$ a night for a stay! 16$ for a half day! 22$ for a full day! They match the dogs with there same size. My dog always has fun and feels safe. 3. Your dog will love it. It's literally like a theme park for puppies. They get to spend time with other dogs, socialize and still feel safe. Watch out! Your dog won't want to go home! read more

Grooming salon service is an absolute JOKE. Just like other reviews, no wonder why they have availability. People who have made the first time mistake of coming here (like myself) don't come back. 3 minutes after taking my dog back for a nail grind I was called overhead to pick him up. No changes, his nails looked exactly the same and still scratched me which obviously meant they were not smoothed properly. "Lead" of the department is also a joke with her customer services skills of handling unhappy customers. I always start off nice with my interactions since I've worked in customer service for a very long time so I understand the employees side of it. But after 10 minutes of dealing with two incompetent "lead/managers" I realized there was no real service they could deliver. The salon leads solution to my dissatisfaction was I should find somewhere else to take my dog. Ha, great idea! Everyone should find somewhere else because these people and their "service" are the worst. Save yourself the frustration and find a better groomer. So we tried PetSmart groomers today we weren't expecting a 5 star haircut but we thought it would get the job done and look decent, making our 45 dollars worth it. The lady wasn't at the desk was friendly ...she was pretty rude actually and didn't smile once. She did we couldn't talk to the groomer to explain how we wanted his haircut and she would tell our groomer what we exactly wanted. We had Gia, she was nice but didn't do what we had asked at ALL. We asked for a teddy bear round cut and to barely cut any off the face and to keep all his hair on top. Well they cut all it off they cut his entire chin hair area off and his face hair off completely which was opposite of what we said and it was an oval shaped weird cut ugh . He looks like a different dog in a very bad bad way. He looks he has no chin and it's not fluffy or how we described at all. I can't even look at his haircut without cringing. I feel they just ignored all our requests and just cut his quick to get him done snd to move on to the next dog. I am Very disappointed! I read the reviews and just tried to give them a chance but they failed miserably. And there is a picture of his tail they literally jus chopped it with one cut where it looks straight across and looks like a broom, it looks horrible. I almost wanna laugh it looks so bad. It's pretty crazy they thought it was a decent hair cut and that the owners would be happy with the results. These dogs are definitely a number they don't care if they look good... they just chop them up how they want it, quickly and move on! I was just at Pet Smart shopping. I walked by the doggy "daycare" window for small dogs. The woman looked like a prison guard. Standing with no emotion. Arbitrarily spraying dogs. Most were trying to hide in a corner. They all were horrified, sad, shaking. Then she just stands in there holding her weapon (spray bottle). No comfort, no little retreat spots, just glaring lights and her. Next window was large dogs. Same situation. WHO would leave there dog there. I don't even own a dog.
