I would not recommend this place to a stranger on the street, let alone a good friend. I've taken my dog here twice and something has happened both times. The first time we had only left him for a few hours, and when we picked him up and returned home, we noticed he had gash on his leg. We called them and asked if they had noticed, to which they said they had not. Fast forward to TODAY. We pick up our pup and notice his skin is VERY red. We have told them in the past and when we dropped him off that he is allergic to metal so he can not eat out of metal bowls. Of course they were reassuring us that this would not happen, but his skin tells us otherwise. On top of that, he has some type of wound on his paw and gash on his paw. How does this happen TWICE?! We called to see how he was multiple times. If someone had checked on him they would have noticed his marks....So with this happening twice, on top of his red swollen eyes/snout/paws, we will not be returning to this doggie day camp or hotel. read more

The store was disgusting. The ceiling was leaking in several areas and they just had buckets scattered all over the store. I almost tripped several times. Additionally, there were crickets jumping around the store that had gotten out of their cage/bin. Very unsanitary. We paid for a 4 night platinum stay which includes a private sleeping area and a bath before pickup. When we went to pick up our dog we were told they had changed our plan because "daycare was full" so they didn't bath him. The Pets Hotel at the Logan Square Petsmart is the best place to take your pet! My puppy Lucy goes to day camp every MWF and I honestly don't know what I would do without it. She adores it there. Camp is broken up into three areas: Lucy is in smalls, but there is also camp for mediums and bigs. It costs $20 a day, but almost every time we go we get a survey on our receipt for $3 if you complete it, so it is usually only $17. Also, every 10th visit is free. They have morning playtime with other dogs their size for a few hours, then lunch and rest time in their own little rooms, then afternoon play. The day staff all know her (and all the regular dogs - I think around 40 or 50) by name and greet her with lots of cuddles and praise, much to her tail-wagging delight. At the end of the day, she gets a Pawgress Report that tells me what she did that day. It's funny - she has even made two little best friends (Scarlet and Jersey) and has a boyfriend named Carmello. They're on her reports every week. She eats the food they provide for free (Science Diet - she likes the Small Bites). When she gets home after camp, she's happy and exhausted, usually curling up and sleeping on my lap. It is SO worth it to bring her there instead of leaving her home 5 days in a row during the work week, where she used to be agitated and lonely. 3 days of camp is enough for us, as she is usually pretty tired and sleeps a lot the day after. She loves it, and I love seeing her happy. read more

Grooming manager was literally the worst customer service provider I've ever encountered. Her staff didn't explain the small print page long " contract " I signed that had additional services fees on them. When I questioned the charges I was told it's my fault I didn't read it! I would assume I wouldn't be charged for extra for things I never was in the past, like 12 years of Mohawks on my poodle. She needs a class on ethics, personal grounding and Customer service. I am not sure why petsmart has such an unpleasant person in a leadership role. I feel it's important to listen to understand customer issues and make choices based on past experiences and coming to an agreement that works for both parties. I like coming here because it's a little bit more spacious than some of the others (the layout reminds me of the ones back home in l.a.), and that parking is never an issue. I've gone here for fish needs and have experienced mediocre customer service. Nothing above and beyond great... We also come here once and a while for puppy needs. We've received pretty helpful tips from Terri, the dog trainer, and she was really nice and informative. We had intended on taking her classes here, but ended up going to a closer Petsmart for the classes. This Petsmart is probably the busiest one I have been to in the area. We tried getting our dogs nails trimmed and ears cleaned one time and even though I knew how busy it was that day, we decided to wait. The groomers all looked flustered and I was starting to get uncomfortable with how the dogs were up on the tables. I just got home from picking up my dog after they had him for all of 15 minutes. He is a 10 year old 22 pound dog. He was boarded there in the past with no problem. He is fearful and needs a few minutes to acclimate before being man-handled by staff. Apparently they couldn't even get the leash off off him and so called me to come get him. I am leaving on a vacation tomorrow and this left me with no recourse. If they had even taken the time to pet him or sit down and let him come to them, he would have been fine. They must have a new untrained staff if this is the dog they can't handle. Do not under any circumstances take your pet here if you are counting on them because your plans can very easily be derailed. They are ill equipped to deal with even the most basic slight behavior issues and are not helpful or willing to work with the dog. Terrible place！ My dog was totally traumatized after the bath. 1 The most important, I notice a wound on my dog when I picked him up, very very close to his left eye. I know the wound was caused during the bath because I happened to take a picture for my dog before sending him to the salon. The salon manager explained that it was because my dog scratched himself. Well, his is a dog and he can't talk. It doesn't mean he is stupid to scratch his eyes, most dogs won't do it. He doesn't have any issue with his eyes, no itch , no hotspot, so there is no reason for my dog to scratch it! I don't know what happened during the bath.2. The lady in the grooming salon went off work without drying my dog's hair completely. ( The hair behind the ears and at the rear place were still damp when I picked him up). My boyfriend and I were referred to this Petsmart for private doggie classes. Our dog, Bob, was unmanageable, disobedient and extremely energetic. We had no idea where to begin with Bob, so we signed up for private lessons with Marta. When we first began, Bob jumped on everyone (including runners!), barely knew his own name (let alone "stop", "stay", "no") and pulled on the leash with every walk. Bob started showing improvement from day one of Marta's class. Each class Marta began with "how was last week?"so we could give her feedback so she could determine the best skill to work on for that class. She tackled the big ones first - pulling while walking and following directions. A really helpful element of Marta's teaching was the homework she had for us. "For next week, I'd like you to work on this". Sometimes it's easy to 'forget' the skills you learned in class and play catch up in next week's class. When we did try to pull that stunt, Marta (very politely and light-hearted) joked with us that we had to put some effort in. Touche! I love that Marta told us that Bob wasn't the only one getting trained - these classes were training us too! Marta also knows every single name of dogs around the store - we'd be in class when she'd say "ohh that's XYZ dog - he's working on agility" or "that's ABC dog - she just got her summer shave". I love knowing that when we're walking around the store with Bob, she probably is telling her clients about how great Bob is! All in all, it takes a very special person to work magic on a crazy dog.... Marta was AMAZING with Bob, and we're happy to report that he's a totally new dog. Bob is obedient, manageable and friendly (not crazy!) with other dogs and people. He listens so well now! I'd like to think that dog training is hardly a match for people-training, but Marta did amazing training us as well. She even taught us (and Bob) a few tricks! A big huge thank you to Marta - the most amazing dog (and people) trainer! There is one person in particular, I wish I had gotten her name, but all I can say is that she is probably in her mid twenties, African American, works in the aquarium department and one of the rudest, laziest, most unhelpful people I have ever encountered in customer service. I can't understand anything she says because she is mumbling, rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing any time I ask her ANYTHING. The rest of the time, she's standing there looking like she can't wait for everyone to just go the hell away. I have tried to ask questions, and no one here seems to know or care about the fish. I actually had a fish die recently because the person here told me that I could put it in my tank with my other fish. Obviously not the case, and before I knew it, he was dead. I won't ever go back to this store. Even though it is convenient, you shouldn't feel intimidated by the staff. The last 2 times that I went, I didn't even get to chose the fish that I wanted because I felt like I was getting on the girl's nerves just being there, so I felt pressured to just buy the fish and get out. Keeping a healthy, happy aquaium isn't cheap, and I don't appreciate spending my money somewhere it isn't wanted. I'll go a little farther down the road to PetCo. Me and my boyfriend went in to buy cat toys and litter but I needed to use the washroom really bad. So we went to the Pet Hotel and ask this woman where the washroom was. She told us where it is and the code "258" to get in. I said thank you and she said "Your welcome" and smiled back. When I got to washroom door, there was only 5 numbers for the lock: 1-5. Good thing there was another employee (Hispanic guy, friendly face, a little on the chubby side) and he told me the code. I told him about the woman telling me the wrong code and he said "She lied" with a knowing smile on his face. After I was done using the washroom, I went back to the Pet Hotel area and looked at the woman who told me the wrong code. She just looked at me as if she was disgusted with me, as if she was saying "serves you right." I was outraged because we come here and buy our cat food, litter, and toys. We are paying customers and for her to be that cruel to me just because I needed to use the bathroom really bad? I asked the guy who gave me the correct code what that woman's name is. JESSICA. So whoever will read this, or if Jessica will read this herself, I hope she doesn't do this to another person again. I was a Target employee for almost 4 years and I never ever did such thing to any of the customers, no matter how silly their questions are. I know working in retail is tiring but I asked politely, I never shouted at Jessica. I just can't understand why she would do this kind of thing! No I am rethinking of buying our cat's needs from another place. By the way, that Latino guy who helped me (he even asked me and my boyfriend if he can do anything for us, and he was apologetic, even though it wasn't his fault what Jessica did to me). Worst customer service ever. Obviously understaffed, and the staff they do have need some serious training. Yesterday I called to see if they had time available to give my dog the standard bath. I would need to drop him off at 10:45am. He's been there a dozen times so they have our info on file and everything. They said, "Sure; bring him in." I (wrongly) assumed they were not overbooked. I showed up and had to wait until 11:20am to even be asked "Can I help you?", thus ending up 25 minutes late to my own haircut appointment. They told me it would be at least 2:30pm before he would be ready. That's an awfully long time to give a dog a bath. Then I never got a call from them to let me know he was ready. I called them myself around 4pm. The price includes bathing, brushing and nail-clipping. They NEVER do the nail clipping, even though it's written in our file, I remind them every time I bring him in, and sometimes point it out when I pick him up (in which case they'll half-ass-ly trim 3 nails while I wait). On a previous visit I waited 20 minutes for a paged staff member to check to see if the food I needed was in the stockroom, as it was out on the shelf. During this period at least two other people came up to the clerk to try to get some help as well. There are rarely any staff in the aisles, let alone any that will be able to assist you, let alone any that OFFER to assist you. I go to PetSmart because it's fairly close to where I live and the prices are reasonable. If I had the money, I'd definitely go to the locally-owned natural pet food stores. read more

Petsmart has completely and totally won my business forever. Many years ago, I bought their Petzazz dog crate in XL. It is the only escape proof and indestructible dog crate that I have ever come across in the 10+ years that I have owned large dogs. Unfortunately, that particular crate is no longer available so I had to purchased another XL crate from their competitor for our second dog. At $250+ it failed to contain our 140lb Rottweiler and the door became so bent that the locks no longer functioned and we had to resort to using a padlock. We have always crate trained our dogs for their safety when we are not home. Fast forward to today, we again have 2 dogs, one fantastic crate and the other awful one. The two of them have terrible separation anxiety..they are left alone no longer than 3 hours 3 days a week. They are miserable in separate crates, even side by side. We've been through 2 plastic trays at $50 each because one of them destroyed them. We tried rubber toys, kongs, nothing calmed them. I did not want to give them anxiety medication, and leaving them uncrated while we were out was not an option. I was beginning to have anxiety attacks whenever we had to go anywhere. Petsmart had exactly the product that we needed and wanted. After alot of contemplation and research, we decided that the best solution was to build an indoor kennel and convert one of the rooms in the basement into a dog room. We wanted to build an indoor dog kennel that would be at minimum 6 ft high, was large enough to house 2 dogs and leave them both ample room to stand, turn, walk, and play. We did not want one that made out of noisy sharp chain link fencing, had sharp points or edges in the interior or parts that the dogs could easily destroy or chew...and we did not want an eyesore. I am very fortunate that we have alot of room to build something like this. We absolutely love it and wished that we had thought of this sooner! P.S. The store is fine. The usual chain store stuff. Dog grooming: I took my little mixed breed dog to get groomed here. They quoted me $33 for a groom over the phone. I got the bill and it was $52. That's a pretty big difference to me. They also didn't clip all of his claws, only some of them--which makes no sense. When I got my dog home, he was understandably a bit fussy--that's typical when he's had a bath, etc, but this time it was way worse than normal. He wouldn't play and he would't go on walks for over a week! I even took him to the vet to make sure he was ok, and they couldn't find anything wrong other than he might have had a bad experience at Petsmart. I saw a groomer yank on another dog's paw and say "Don't start with me!" I will never take him back there due to how traumatized he's been. Everywhere else I've taken him--the vet, other groomers, boarding--have all said he's very sweet and sits still for them. I've been taking my dog to the grooming salon here but I might not anymore. It can be hit or miss. The first time I came the girl did an excellent job and I wish I knew her name because I would come back and use only her. They've started requiring appointments because they are too damn busy all the time and the diminishing quality is showing. The last time I went they called to say my dog would take an hour longer and when I finally picked her up I could see they did a crap job that looked like a two-year-old took a razor to my dog's fur. Very uneven, maybe it's a new rock-star haircut for dogs? It might be worth the effort finding another groomer, even one that charges more than $50. Edit 10/22/07: I will definitely NOT take my dog back to the grooming service. The groomer seriously scratched my dog's cornea which caused her to get a cherry eye, which will need surgery to be fixed. I took my little shih tzu here on Saturday to get groomed. They said it would be 3 hours and I understand, it's a Saturday. They called us about an hour before we had to pick up our dog and asked if they could keep our dog another hour! I wasn't too happy about that because we were shopping around the area while we waited for Gizmo to be picked up. When we picked him up he was adorable and they cut his hair like I requested. The only downside was he reeked like a girl and he's a BOY! I think they spritzed him with puppy cologne that smelled like cotton candy. Needless to say it didn't smell too good. Puuuuuuu! I also was observing the groomers and how they interacted with the other dogs being groomed. One lady was being really mean to this golden retriever by pulling on his legs and demanding him to sit. I was hoping that my dog wasn't going to be stuck with this impatient lady! The grooming was $48, a little high for Petsmart. But when your dog is in desperate need of grooming, it will have to do. read more

Have you ever received service so horribly, laughably bad, that you say out loud to yourself, "Is this really happening right now?" I have. I came to this location the day I took my pup home from the Anti-Cruelty Society to stock up on all the essentials. She needed just about everything; food, treats, toys, a crate, everything. My friend and I had a cart full of things. She had recommended Kong toys, since her dogs loved them so much. I grabbed a couple from the toy aisle and proceeded to the treat aisle. I was looking for the Kong 'Ziggies' - the treats that you can optionally stuff into the Kong toys. An employee, Jessica, turned the corner and I asked for her help. I let her know that I was looking for the Ziggies, but couldn't find them in the treat section. They can be treats on their own, so looking for them in the treat aisle is not completely out of the realm of possibility. I told her I'd found the Kong toys. She said this, verbatim. "So you have the Kong toys already?! You're telling me you WENT THROUGH THE AISLE, and didn't even LOOK for them? Hahaha! Well jeez, they're over here..." It wasn't said in a joking tone. It was the most hilariously awful thing a customer service associate had ever said to me. It swimming in condescension, and a very obvious implication that I didn't know how to take care of my dog. I thought it was a joke. When she turned her back, my friend and I exchanged horrified eye rolls and smirks; this woman cannot be serious. After directing us to the Ziggies, she said "You think you got it from here?" with a laugh before turning to leave. We didn't even bother responding, she was a waste of time. We grabbed a couple bags and went on our way. I wish it ended there. It didn't. We were walking down the main aisle towards the back of the store. There was Jessica, chatting with another employee. Without us even so much as looking in her general direction, Jessica decides to shout some unsolicited advice our way. "Do you, uh, need anything else? Maybe, I don't know, some FOOD?" She laughs. My friend and I stop dead in our tracks, look at her, then look at each other, and just laugh. That's all you can do when you encounter stupidity of that magnitude. Just laugh. We walked away, selected my dog's crate and further needs without any assistance. Upon checking out and spending over $300, I knew I would never be back. This was in March, and I haven't been back. You couldn't PAY me to give this place my business. Not returning to Petsmart is not out of anger that I was treated poorly, or the silly belief that my business matters at all to Petsmart. It's out of the fact that they honestly think that having terrible employees is any sort of reasonable option. I'm not at all surprised that animals are treated poorly here. I've considered going back, just to test the limits of this woman's patience, since she seems to have so little of it, JUST for fun. But no need to waste that air I could be breathing elsewhere. I've used the PetsHotel doggy daycare at other locations and have always raved to friends about how happy I've always been with their service. Not the Chicago Elston store! I've taken my dog here a total of three times now and each experience has been a disappointment. The staff is lazy and acts as if dropping off and picking up is a chore you are annoying them with. On two separate visits I asked that my dog's nails be trimmed during his visit, he was there for a full day, upon picking him up nails were neglected both visits and I had to wait for that to then get done. No apologies, no discounts, just more making me feel like I'm an annoyance. More importantly, the level of care isn't what I'm used to. At other locations I get more than just a report card, I get a verbal enthusiastic explanation of how my dog's day was, even if he was bad. Here I am told if he's hyper he gets crated (which I could do at home for free). Out of his three visits to the Elston location I received the report card once ...which included expired coupons and when I unknowingly went to use them at the front registers I was treated like a criminal. I don't usually write reviews, I'm even leaving many details out, but I honestly just despise this location and feel bad for taking my pup there more than once. read more

I've been here a couple times now-once with my scruffbutt and once without. Both times I found things pretty easily, available for sale at a large range of prices, and was checked out quickly. Their staff I could take or leave. I didn't find them overly helpful or kind, but they weren't blatantly rude either, which is always nice when you're about to hand them your money:) The reason I'm only giving it a couple of stars however is that both times I was there there were a couple of puddles of urine throughout the store that clearly had been there for a bit. So, maybe make sure you wear some closed-toed shoes if you hit it up. Another off-putting thing I saw was their "training area" which consisted of a group of at least 15-20 dogs (no, I'm not exaggerating) in a big room with a window wandering around puddles of dog urine, while staring at a girl spraying them with a spray bottle. Given, I know nothing about dog training techniques, but the environment did not look good for the dogs, and moreover, the dogs did not look happy. This review is for the Pets Hotel, which I will never use again nor will I ever recommend it to anyone. Last weekend, on Dec. 28th, I picked up my 2 cats from their 4th stay at the Pets Hotel, so I will break down my issues by visit. 1st visit: everything went well, which is why I continued to take my cats there 2nd visit: this is where the problems began. One of my cats is on a rather expensive medication that he needs to take twice a day. Since this visit was over the 2013 holidays and I was going to be flying, I sent additional medication in the event my flight was delayed (which it was.) When I picked my cats up I was given an empty medication bottle despite the fact he should have had enough for an additional couple of days. I was given no explanation for this except that someone must have dropped it. Really? Ok. Side note: prior to the 3rd (thanksgiving 2014 week) and 4th (xmas 2014 week) visits I called the Pets Hotel to update my cat's records since he was put on a second medication. The person who took my call apparently thought the whole idea of a sick cat was funny because upon telling the guy that my cat needs medication for his awful seizures he replied with "that's hilarious." Hilarious? Yeah no. It is terrible and I didn't appreciate him laughing at it. 3rd visit: I picked up my cats to find that one of my cats, who is a little bit of a grump but is not a vicious animal, was absolutely terrified. The worker wouldn't even grab him out of the cage and said he was being "vicious" and asked if my fiancé wanted gloves to grab him (like he was about to handle a damn falcon or something.) This event has made me a little suspicious about how animals are treated because my cat has NEVER acted that way. Also on this visit I was charged for a late pick up even though I was there at 11am to get my cats. I didn't realize it until later, but I figured it was just an honest mistake. I did get my refund, but it was a little inconvenient that I had to go back to correct their mess up. 4th and final visit: first off, I was charged again for the late pick up fee at 11am. Apparently it is NOT an honest mistake and they just tack it on for every pick up and hope you don't notice. Kind of ridiculous. And AGAIN I had the issue that I sent additional medication for my cat just in case I was delayed and I was given an empty bottle to go home with. Again there was no explanation for this, but I was told that they are very strict when dosing medication. Must not be too strict when a few days worth of a controlled substance just "walks away" somehow. Given the medication that was missing, I also believe I was lied to when I asked if my cat had gotten his morning dose that day. And lastly my grumpy cat acted even more terrified then before. He was making noises I had never heard before that just broke my heart. I will never again subject him to whatever they are doing over there at the Pets Hotel. And I will never subject myself to their incompetence again. read more

I've never had a dog so I've never entered a Petsmart until last night when my boyfriend brought home a dog from the anti-cruelty society. Our first trip with the dog was to Petsmart and I was pretty impressed with this store. I couldn't believe they actually let you bring your dogs in, but I guess that makes sense since it is a store for them. They seemed to have everything you could possibly need and the sales associates were very helpful and friendly as they helped us pick out a crate. It was also surprisingly clean for having animals in there all the time! read more

I really like shopping here. I always bring my dog along. He always pisses all over the place (I've tried to train him NOT to do this, trust me).... but don't worry, their employees are there to cleanup :-). I also used their vet service. It is quite expensive, but I don't know how it compares with other places. The vet there seemed ok. No complaints. read more

What type of clinic states that they won't be able to enroll your pet in a plan or see your pet because they are not nice??? I know my dog is a bit hard to deal with but every single time she was brought here she was so scared she would never be aggressive towards them.. I'm in total shock that a vet would not see an animal because they are "hard to deal with". That's insane to mention I was never informed of negative behavior when there or after picking up from a drop off. read more

I took my 10month old pup to get groomed and I regret every second of it! Upon picking up my pup they informed me that my pup was being difficult during the dryer (because he was scared of it). He panted heavily for 5hours straight and was inconsolable for a while after. This morning he had to be coaxed to eat and drink, so something traumatic definitely occurred!
