Winnie's appointment was on a Saturday at noon. We dropped her off no problem - the entrance is in the alley and ring the doorbell. It was 10% off as a first time customer. The woman who came to get Winnie was really friendly. I sent her a text with what I wanted and they whisked Winnie away. 3ish hours later she was ready for pickup. We LOVE her haircut! They did such a good job and followed the picture I wanted exactly. She's so soft and still smells so good! Love how they trimmed the hair between her paws and around her eyes. It sounds like she was a little bit of a difficult first time customer (she's never been groomed before), but they didn't charge us an extra fee which we appreciated. We absolutely LOVE the Pet-A-Cure team. We have been taking our bernedoodle (60lbs) since she was 5 months old and it is so nice not having to worry when we drop her off. They are very careful and take their time giving each dog the appropriate attention. We have done everything from a usual cut, to a sanitary cut, to a summer cut so she isn't as hot. Depending on the type of cut, and if your dog needs extra time to manage through any matting, it can be several hours; our pup usually takes 2-4 hours depending on the type of cut we are doing. They're very good at both listening to what you are looking for your dog to have as well as providing their ideas/expertise on what is best for the dogs. They are well liked by many so make sure to book ahead for your appointment; we usually book our appointment about 2-3 weeks in advance. read more

I wish I had read some of the reviews below before bringing my sweet girl to Jennifer a few months back because they're spot on... this place is horrible! I was charged over $200 for a very basic haircut for my 16lb goldendoodle, and the cut itself was terribly done (I had to finish the face myself). Jennifer was nasty about the whole thing, telling me that it was my fault that my dog had a few tangles. I was very clear that I told her I knew there was a small amount of matting because I brought my dog swimming earlier that day, but I also know for a fact that the matting wasn't bad (given I take my dog swimming and brush her out completely myself on a daily basis). Jennifer said that I should really just not take my dog swimming at all, and that "all good doodle moms know that." Are you kidding me?? The worst part of the whole experience was getting home and realizing that my sweet dog had scratches all over her from Jennifer's grooming. TLDR: if you want your dog to get a horrible haircut and scratches all over him/her, and then get overcharged and insulted personally, this is your place! But, if you care about yourself and your pup, I'd recommend staying as far away from Jennifer and her terrible team as possible. read more

After getting great recommendations from friends, I decided to bring my dog to Pet A Cure. Even though they are pricier than other groomers as well a long drive from where I live in Andersonville, and I am a rather poor graduate student, I wanted my dog to look "right" and was not pleased with the service I received at other groomers. However, despite bringing in photos of my dog with the cut exactly how I liked it and describing in-depth exactly how I wanted it, Pet A Cure only got it right once (out of 3 or 4 times). After they got it right, I thought, "Great! They know how I want it and it will be good from here on out." Not the case. When I picked him up, the woman KNEW it wasn't right and asked if I wanted it to be shorter around his face, to which I said yes, so she brought him back to be fixed. Instead of fixing the whole issue, she trimmed around his nose and left the rest his face long, resulting in a super choppy, weird look. At the time, I needed to leave. But when I called to voice my complaint, I was given the excuse that the person to whom I explained how I wanted it cut was not actually the person who did the grooming -- to which I asked why that was so, especially given the fact that I'd had multiple problems in previous groomings and emphasized what I wanted every time I went in. Additionally, I was asked if any groomer had ever gotten it right, as if to say that it wasn't their fault that I wanted something done that was impossible. At that point I told them that THEY had gotten it right last time and it didn't matter how any other groomer and done -- I felt like I was having a conversation with a child who claimed that "no one in class did well on the test..." Furthermore, I'd really hoped she would at least extend the offer to bring him in to be fixed -- instead I was told it would be fine if I never returned. Did I mention I've always tipped well?? On top of being disappointed with the cut, I then found their response to my complaint unappreciative of my business, unprofessional, and rude. Still absolutely love Jennifer and the Pet-A-Cure salon! I bring my dog in once every three to four months just to have his nails trimmed and his *ahem* glands taken care of (dog owners know what I mean). Jennifer is absolutely amazing with all of her clients! There were a couple of other dogs in the waiting area with my guy and me earlier today and they looked scared. However, Jennifer came out to greet them and they instantly changed for the better! She obviously knows how to take care of animals and my dog loves coming in. He never seems scared when we leave - in fact, he's always super happy and excited! The grooming is always really great and reasonably priced. Our smelly guy always leaves Pet-A-Cure smelling absolutely wonderful! I know that his ears are clean and his nails are trimmed because Jennifer always does a great job. I've been meaning to write this review for awhile, but I've been kind of slacking when it comes to Yelp. Oops! Anyway, Jennifer is an absolutely fantastic groomer. I know this might sound too good to be true, but I have absolutely nothing critical to say of Pet-A-Cure. Bentley is a terrier (West Highland), and as some might know, most terriers have breed specific cuts... very specific. Jennifer never gets this wrong. My Westie always comes back looking like a Westie- not a Scottie or a Schnauzer, which I hear happens often at other places. Not that there is anything wrong with looking like a Scottie or a Schnauzer... ha ha. More importantly, my pup is somewhat special in terms of personality (very shy, which can sometimes turn into very anxious) and I feel very comfortable leaving him at Pet-A-Cure. Jennifer almost always tells me that he is very well behaved, which shocks me due to his insecure personality. I have to believe that his good/calm behavior has a lot to do with the way that she does things. This is probably one of the best qualities to have in a groomer, since even the most naturally calm dogs can be freaked out by being groomed. I also really like that she keeps a file for each client/dog, detailing how she has groomed them in the past. Basically, all I have to ask for is "the usual." This saves so much time! Oh, and did I mention that prices are very reasonable? I could go on for days, because Pet-A-Cure is awesome! Highly recommended. read more

Two friends recommended Pet-A-Cure for my pooches to get groomed, and I'm so glad that I took their advice! Staff here was very friendly, and listened to what I wanted done to my two awesomely friendly Cavaliers. I opted to "upgrade" a little and paid extra for the furminator, and I'm SO glad that I did, as it's made a HUGE difference in the shed amounts from my boys. Oh, thank you. My rescue doggie came with dreds and an uneasy temperament when groomed. They listened to what we wanted for our dirty, over-heating pooch, and actually used a special comb to strip his coat, a very breed specific grooming method, that left him soft and natural-looking. It was well worth the money (our dog was $55). They clearly care about dogs and know what they are doing. He smells great, is soft, and doesn't seem traumatized (he easily is) despite biting them when he had is nails clipped (I'm so sorry!). And each cut comes with a cute collar cover. I've seen many dogs in the neighborhood with their trademark collars. read more

I'm glad I waited to write this review. At first, I was disappointed with my experience here, but now, I'm warming up to it. First off, I dropped off my shih-tzu knowing that he was changing coats and had a few mats. I was prepared for the news that he might need to be shaved down, but explained that I'd like to avoid it if possible, and the groomer (Jenn, I think?) seemed really nice and assured me that she'd do what she could. I felt okay leaving my guy there, though she did seem to be the only person working and acted a bit rushed. She let me know that it would be about 2-3 hours before he'd be done, so I left and waited. And waited. And waited. Until about 4.5 hours later when she called and said my pup would be ready in another 30 minutes. I was pretty psyched since I figured that it had taken so long since she'd really worked to get the couple mats out. Unfortunately, when I got there, my pup was shaved down. I was a little peeved at first, but now I'm used to the cut more and it's not so bad, and he did have some mats. I do thing she could do with some help for the register and such, but the place is pretty cheap and you can get a Saturday appointment without having to schedule a month out. I 'll probably bring my guy back, and hopefully I can replace this okay review with a GREAT one. read more

I took Skittles there for the first time yesterday. She's a small 9lb yorkie/pom mix and deadly fearful of strangers. But like the other reviews said, Jennifer and her team were so nice that Skittles had no problem with them at all. She was very happy when I picked her up. She was also very soft and smelled fantastic! :) She looks like a mini polar bear right now. Unlike other groomers, Jennifer gave me an estimated price over email and it ended up being that price! I've heard horror stories of other groomers charging people twice as much as quoted once they came in, but this was definitely not the case here. Obviously small shop groomers are going to be somewhat more expensive than your typical PetSmart, but I think it was well worth the money. I definitely plan on coming back. read more

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place, yet. I've been taking our dog Pudge here since we moved to the neighborhood about 2 years ago. Pudge is not that social and gets very anxious around strangers. I told Jennifer this just as a heads up (and told her it would be ok if she needed to muzzle her during the service). Every time I pick up Pudge I always ask how she behaved and Jennifer always says good things about her. Jennifer takes the time to make sure our dog is comfortable and I think that's what makes it a good experience for our dog. Jennifer is so patient and understanding with our dog. That's so important especially with not-so-perfect dogs like mine. She also sews these fabric collar covers and every time we pick-up Pudge she has new fabric cover on her collar. She even makes seasonal themed-collars ;) It's just a sweet touch. The cost for a full-service (bath, cut & nails trimmed) is pretty reasonable. Pudge is about 65 lbs border collie/blue heeler mix...so she has a LOT of hair. We pay only $50 for a dog her size and all that service! I recommend using them...and it's great for the neighborhood! read more

I brought my dog here for grooming after having had a horrible experience at Chicago Grooming Academy. This place is fantastic! The groomers are all so nice and gentle in handling the dogs. The place is clean and pretty, and you can actually see the area where the dogs are groomed, unlike other places where they take your dog to some back room. I showed Jennifer a picture of what I wanted for my Shih Tzu, a puppy cut, and she did exactly what I wanted. My dog looks so cute! We went to a store to buy her treats afterwards and everyone at the store said she looked adorable. A few people even asked where I had her groomed. Happy I've found a groomer I am comfortable with. I really hated taking my dog to different groomers each time because I never really found a good one until now, but we are definitely sticking with this one. read more

Amazing - A week later, Vito still smells fresh and clean, and his thick coat is soft and fluffy. I dunno what magic they work at Pet-A-Cure, but I'm very satisfied. I thought it a little weird that his bath would cost twice as much as what I paid to adopt him, but it is worth it. He was bathed, thoroughly brushed and groomed, and his nails were trimmed - which is no easy task. They even gave me some advice to prevent his fur from being matted under his collar. Call a few weeks ahead to make your appointment, especially if you want a weekend slot. They are quite popular! read more

My pug, Monster, HATES bathing. He DESPISES getting his nails clipped. He FREAKS OUT when people try to brush his teeth. He is not a calm, docile pug (are there any in a grooming situation?). But for some reason, Pet A Cure brings out the pampered pug diva he inspires to be. Not only is the staff incredibly nice, but the prices are fantastic and Monster smells fresh as a daisy for literally MONTHS after his treatment. Love it! read more

Jennifer was my dog's groomer before we adopted him and we decided to make sure we used her services so that our little guy would feel comfortable. Man, I love this place and Duke loves it too! I have had a lot of strange, inconsistent, and at times even bad experiences with different groomers around Chicago. i can't say enough how much I love these ladies. I own a teacup yorkie puppy and i was told by a different groomer that she moves around too much to be groomed. They only thing they were able to do is give her a bath. I was bummed out and jumped on yelp (My Bff) to find another groomer. Pet A Cure came up and i called them right away. i was able to get an appointment the next day. When i arrived, the place was VERY CLEAN, organized and the ladies were absolutely lovely. They welcomed myself and Cocoa Puff with open arms and were more than confident that they could groom her. I was a bit skeptic because my little girl does move around A LOT. She won't even let me brush her at home. I must say that Cocoa Puff looks fantastic! I mean the haircut, trimming of nails, tweet, ears etc. were more than perfect. These ladies really know what they are doing and i am so HAPPY that i found Pet A Cure. Do not waste your time looking for another groomer in Chicago, bring your dog here and get the best haircut in the city for your dog. While I haven't used their services, it doesn't seem that I will be able to. After all these amazing reviews, I reached out regarding price to groom my two pups. I received a quick and friendly response. When I called to make an appointment, they are booked for the year on Saturdays. The woman stated that their clients book a year out for every four weeks and the only available grooming times are during the week at 11 or noon. While that would be great if I was rich and didn't need to work, it doesn't really work when I have a 9-5 job. The hours are pretty limited, which I get being that it is only two people, however, they should be upfront that if you expect to bring your pets in for grooming, you better hope someone else's pet dies or cancels and your next on their "cancellation" list. read more

The ladies at Pet A Cure did a great job grooming my maltese/pekingese/poodle recently. I like that I can walk there from my house and that they worked quickly (2 hours?) and that it cost roughly $20 less than my last groomer charged. Fantastic groomer. My dogs actually like going here {not the case for others we tried}! They really take care of your dogs and do a fantastic job. They come home so clean and shiny!. I highly recommend this place. They are the best groomers in Chicago. Why not 5 stars then? Because frequently when we took our dogs in for a grooming appointment they were weren't ready to be picked up for over 5 hours... That is a lot of time for them to sit in a kennel on a Saturday afternoon. However if you have a day off or work from home there is less timelag during the week. read more

My only other experience has been with the Petco on Elston, so take this review with that in mind, but Pet-A-Cure is AWESOME! I called for an appointment a few days in advance and got my 70 lbs Rott mix in first thing that Saturday morning. I was quoted $50 on the phone (compared to $38 at Petco) which was more than I wanted to spend, but the reviews here was so good I thought I give them a try. Plus the store is just within walking distance of my apartment. I got much more than I expected for my money: anal glands drained, a nail trim, a "hygiene trim", the collar cover of course, and one thing that Petco doesn't supply - human feedback. We'd just adopted our dog and it was great to hear how she behaved during her stay there and if there were any problems. She looks great, smells great, has a pretty backside and nails, and when it was all said and done, I was charged $45 instead of $50. Take your dog to Pet-A-Cure! read more

Absolutely the BEST groomer in the city! Jennifer was recommended to me by my dog's veterinarian about three or four years ago. Her work is truly exceptional in every way. After trying several other "recommended" groomers in the Gold Coast and on the Near North side (that were barely competent), I can honestly say Jennifer's salon IS the best! New to the area and someone recommended this groomer to me so I made an appointment for my golden retriever. Very negative and unprofessional. All Jennifer did was complain about her coat and the mess it made. Seriously. She's a golden retriever for crying out loud. Must not be familiar with the breed -- they are known for their heavy coats. This was my first visit and not one positive thing was said to me about my dog. Service took three and a half hours and I was told it would be no more than three. To top it off when I came back to pick her up, I was told that because of her coat it would be an extra $25 dollars. I was with the same groomer back home for over 9 years and NEVER heard a complaint about my dog's coat. Won't be back...very average groom -- nothing special for the money. read more
