Brought my pup here because she needed a grooming ASAP. I was in a different area of Chicago and wasn't familiar with any of the groomers in this neighborhood. Pet-A-Cure came recommended by another groomer. Once I saw all the great reviews I decided to go for it and boy am I glad that I did! They were so friendly and nice. They groomed my little Munchkin perfectly. She even had 2 cute little bows in her hair. Oh and she smelled divine! The price was right too. Over all this was a great experience! read more

Jennifer and Rose are FANTASTIC! Our rescue dog came to us with mats, nerves and fear of strangers. When I picked my dog up from Pet-A-Cure, he wasn't ready to leave. He just loved them. That's right, they de-matted him and he loved them for it/in spite of it. What ever shampoo they use smells AMAZING. He has never smelled as good as when he came back from Pet-A-Cure. Stay away!!!Jennifer increases prices and adds fees without notifying clients first. I am a 1.5 yr regular and usually enjoy the cut Jennifer has done on my 2 doodles. I also leave a $20 tip on each of my dogs $80 cut and Christmas tip out $100 per dog. But today was a bad time and Jennifer showed her true colors. I think you all need to know how sneaky Jennifer is and how indifferent she is to your complaints when you have one. Today I picked up my girls and the price once again was way off the original $80 a dog. Usually the one dog got charged $10-15 extra for a few tangles that had to be brushed out. I was told my bill was $213. I was shocked and asked why. She said my one girl was covered with tangles. I said I don't believe they were that bad cause I brushed her the night before. She complained if I didn't use a comb it was not brushed right for her to do her cuts. Then I was informed she raised her price to $90 a dog. I argued it was $80 she said no it was $85. So along the way, without notify me of increase she raised the price now 2x. When I asked why I/we weren't notified or told when scheduling that prices were raised she said she doesn't have to inform us. Very arrogantly too. She compared the price raising in a grocery store. She said the grocery stores don't tell us ahead of time prices went up. That was her reasoning why she could also do it. WOW!! I told her my salons for both nail and hair and most reputable places notify clients of increases. Then we choose. But not Jennifer, she believes she can raise prices without informing us before the cut and then decide when and how long to work on tangles and charge according to her plan. Am I supposed to just pay her a $500 fee if she told me it was that? So I did get a measly $10 off and was told next time it's $90 a dog. I told her I probably wouldn't be coming back because of her attitude and how unprofessionally treats her clients. It was unacceptable to me. I know prices go up, but tell us. We get to decide if we want to keep coming. We shouldn't have to feel she'd hold our dogs hostage till we pay. Can you believe I still left a $40 tip. I recently moved and needed a dog groomer to help out with a situation. My dog has FLEAS! I would normally take him to our regular dog groomer that he's been going to since he was 8 weeks, but they don't offer the flea dipping service. However, upon calling the people over at Pet-A-Cure, we found we didn't need to dip him there, we could just buy the flea medication, and then give him a bath at home. Not only were they helpful, but they sent an instruction sheet of what to do at home to prevent any recurrences. I would definitely go back for any of our dog grooming needs. I researched groomers having had a bad experience with Petco on Orleans, and found Pet-A-Cure here on Yelp. So many good reviews, what could go wrong? Well... nothing! Our Westie, Phoebe, went in looking scruffy and unkempt and came out looking like a princess! And a very happy princess at that! The technical aspects of a classic "Westie cut" seem to elude the Petcos of this world, but Pet-A-Cure definitely nailed it! The roundness of the face, even body (especially difficult with a short cut) leading to the "skirt" all look terrierific. A carrot shaped tail and even, rounded paws are finishing touches, done extraordinarily well by Jessica. The detail around her eyes is also muchly appreciated. Westies tend to have fur growing up their snout and right into their eyes, I suppose to protect their eyes from thrashing prey. Phoebe was always looking through that, and I sometimes clipped it myself, but never as well as this cut was done. It's seamless. We'll definitely be returning to Pet-A-Cure for grooming, even though it's a bit of a hike. We'll probably still visit Petco for things like the occasionally hard to find treats, but they better keep their hands off my Westie's coat... it now belongs to Pet-A-Cure. read more

BEWARE!!!! Reasons why I would NEVER take my dog back here: 1. Said it would take 2 hours for her bath and blowdry - it took 4.5 hours... and that was after I called twice to check in. 2. After reading reviews here on Yelp, I thought the price would be reasonable for a 30lb, short hair dog. It was as expensive as anywhere else I've taken her, $45. Plus, the woman who rang me up gave MAJOR attitude when I didn't add a tip on top of the charge (if my dog was done in 2 hours as promised, I might have). 3. Here's the best part... that night my dog kept pawing at her ear and shaking her head. I figured she was just annoyed about having her ears cleaned. When this behavior continued the next morning I started to investigate. That was when I found A COTTONBALL SHOVED WAY DOWN INTO HER EAR CANAL! Poor thing! I pulled it out, but she was still shaking her head for the next couple of hours, so... 4. I had to bring her to the vet for the EAR INFECTION she developed after having a damp cottonball in her ear for 24 hours. The $45 grooming wasn't such a bargain after paying for my vet visit and ear medication. 5. And if this wasn't enough - the vet noticed that the groomer neglected to cut my dog's dew claws (something i specifically asked them to do). WORST EVER. read more

I happened upon this place one day while driving in my neighborhood. At the time we had a newly adopted puppy, and my only experience w/ a groomer was at our local PetSmart. Needless to say I was not thrilled w/ their service. When it was time to get our baby another haircut I decied to try Pet-A-Cure out. Wow! Jennifer and co. are so amazing, and they really take pride in their work, are kind, affordable and really care about making sure your pet is comfortable. Was recommended to this place after moving into the neighborhood and I think she did a great job! My dog is very difficult, so I try to groom him myself most times and then bring him in every 5 or 6 months to get him cleaned up on spots I wasn't able to get well. She was very nice and patient with him. The price was extremely reasonable and he looked and smelled great! He still smells great, and it's been over 2 months since he got groomed! We recently took our puppy here for a grooming session with Jennifer. She was great with our pup, and knows exactly what she is doing. She was very flexible with our schedule, and we love the way Lola's puppy cut came out. Good attention to detail, as we had a very specific request for her paws, and she was on the mark there. Lola looked and smelled great too! It is difficult to find a good groomer that you can trust your pup with, but I think we've found a really great one here, and we'll be bringing her back for sure! read more

I took my mini goldendoodle & am very pleased with how he looks, feels & smells. They did a great job overall & I would give 5-stars aside from the sticker shock I received at pick-up time. I was very surprised to learn it was $25 more than what we paid at the Grooming Gallery 2-months ago. I should have asked for an estimate when I made the appointment but just went off other's comments of "reasonably priced" to assume it would be less than I'd paid before. So overall, 5-stars as far as service but 4-stars as far as price goes. read more

In comparison to my other experiences with dog groomers, this place is reasonably priced and does a good job. My roommate has a fifty pound shepherd-retriever mix. Galt hadn't been to this place in over a year, but the lady remembered him right when we came in, even though the appointment wasn't even under the same name. We are bad bad dog owners. Our dog Ted is a shih tzu bichon mix and gets crazy matted when his fluffy fur grows out. He's a brat about letting us brush him & my husband refuses to allow our dog to get more expensive and frequent groomings then we do- so when he basically becomes one giant mat, we sheepishly bring him into Pet-a-Cure. They clean him, cut his nails and all the yucky business and shave him and he gets to start over fresh. Jennifer and the staff never make me feel bad and they don't make him bald or weird as some places have-he maintains a thin layer of fur-which is nice for all of us. They even took the time to brush out his tail and ears instead of chopping them up. They also do quick nail trims on our other dog Bill-who is a psycho about it. Everyone is so sweet to our crazy dogs! I'm bummed we're moving and probably won't be back in the area to bring our dogs in. I was so glad to find and frequent this small, local shop. read more

Brought my curly Maltese here for the first time, as we are stuck in Chicago because we can't go home to NYC due to Hurricane Sandy. Pet-A-Cure did a great job trimming my pug Olive's EXTREMELY long nails. She lived with my parents, who just didn't have the heart to struggle with and cajole her into letting them trim her nails on a regular basis. They also didn't know that the quick of a dog's nail will grow longer if the nail is not regularly trimmed. So by the time she moved back in with me, her nails were almost circle nails. When I called Pet-A-Cure to ask how they would handle a circle-nail situation, they reassured me that it was something they deal with regularly, and laid out an action plan for Olive in the weeks to come. When I brought Olive to the store, they immediately took her into the back, and with Jennifer cooing at and comforting her, Olive was able to get through the whole ordeal without too much trauma. Her nails looked great, and I've been taking Olive back once a week to continue pushing back her nails. Their prices are reasonable and they do great work! You may have to book a few weeks in advance - but SO worth it! Pet-A-Cure is where we took our first shih tzu for years, and now our newest addition, Oscar, is doing the same. Jennifer and Rose are both incredibly friendly to us and our pup. I also appreciate that unlike the big-box groomers (yes, we made that mistake when putting off a haircut once), there aren't dozens of dogs running around and total chaos. Jennifer is, hands down, the best groomer we have ever had. I would never dream of taking Charley anywhere else. My favorite things about Pet-a-Cure: 1) Jennifer takes extra time and care when doing the bath so that Charley soaks up the "good smell" and retains it for a week or more. 2) Every time Charley comes in for a bath or cut, she gets a new "collar cover." Jennifer makes these things by hand! She makes different ones for all the holidays and seasons. 3) She does the best "puppy cut" that I have ever seen. I think this is because she spends extra time doing some things by hand. (Just a theory!) 4) Most importantly--even though she spends all that time on the above, her prices are still the CHEAPEST I have ever had, or even heard of, in all of Chicago. I really love this place and wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. Ditto everything everyone else has said. Love the way they groom my mangy mutt, easy to get an appointment, nice, nice people, but the biggest reason is that my dogs are happy here. They're never, ever afraid, don't shake, are more or less happy to see me when I come back, but I get the feeling that they wouldn't mind hanging here if I never came back! I can't believe I've been bringing my pal here since 2005 and have never provided a review. Jennifer and her staff are absolutely wonderful. My dog is now almost 10 years old, and a rather skittish Shih Tzu/ Lhasa mix. I never wanted him to look froofy or fussy, and Jennifer does a fantastic job of giving him a cut that reflects his spunky, somewhat obstinate personality. They do a wonderful job cleaning his ears, anal glands and his cut is top-notch every time. Most importantly, it is a consistent cut - he always looks like he did the last time he was cut, which is very important. And the cut grows out very well too. Parking is sometimes an issue, and it's difficult to get in there on weekends, but it's worth it for my little guy to have a good experience with groomers he trusts. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for the past year or so. The girls, who I believe are the owners do a fantastic job. I have a German Shepherd mix who is aggressive when in fearful situations or around strangers. She absolutely hates having her paws touched so nail trimming has always required a muzzle at the vet's office. I always remind the girls about her aggressive behavior, but they never muzzle her and never have a issue with her. They're very sweet and gentle with her. We use to take her to Pet Smart for bathing when we first got her, but she was always so frantic when we picked her up that we were concerned about how she was being treated. I never worry when I leave her at Pet-A-Cure. Her disposition is always great when I pick her up. I am so happy I found this place. read more

We have two Goldens. I have been through probably five groomers since they have been puppies. The best experience pre Pet-A-Cure, was OK most days. Several months ago I yelped groomers in my area. Pet-A-Cure's reviews were glowing. I scheduled an appointment with moderate expectations. They are awesome! Goldens don't require much artistic creativity, what they do require is focus and the patients to de-shed them properly. Pet-A-Cure hit it out of the park. They know dogs, especially Goldens, they have an honest, straight forward approach that delivers a well groomed dog. My dogs are now Pet-A-Cure dogs going forward. read more

When I arrived with my pup, she was very nervous to be left with strangers but the team calmed her very quickly, gave her a lot of praise, and made sure she had a good experience (or as good as possible when going somewhere to be de-matted anyways!). They gave me advice for how to take care of her coat at home, which was great!) My puppy came home very soft and cute.
