After a number of Rover fails, I needed a reliable and trustworthy dog sitter to stay with my two pups when I travel for work. These guys are the best dog walking/house sitting crew ever! I moved to Chicago in mid December and the team at Green Paws have been walking my dog Piper since. They've also housesat Piper while I've been out of town for work or vacation, even throwing Piper a birthday party while I was out of town, with a dog friendly cake and decorations!!! I genuinely feel that Natasha and Kim who have walked/looked after Piper the most, adore her and I know she is in good hands when I can't be with her. On my most recent trip out of the country, my dog was attacked by another dog and the team took her to the Vet where she had surgery, picked her up and made sure she wasn't alone. Ron with Green Paws, and my assigned pet care specialist, Utsab, came over for a quick orientation visit before j left, to get me set up and meet my kitty, Fred. They immediately put us at ease and had so many thoughtful questions to ask about Fred's care that I hadn't even thought of! Fred sat in Utsabs lap during the visit and it was so apparent that Green Paws truly love and care about your pet as if it was their own. Terrible experience. I contacted Green Paws 3 weeks before I needed service. I had several phone calls and a zoom meeting. The owner came to my place and started complaining about parking. No one ever spoke to me about parking (I live at an L stop). He proceeded to contradict everything his employee Rhianna said to me and when I pushed back (I'm leaving town in 3 days). He walked out, leaving me hanging. As the owner of a company, it is his responsibility to train his staff with the appropriate information. Believe who people are when they show you. GREEN PAWS TO THE RESCUE! Finally a service business in Chicago that doesn't behave sluggishly or like they are doing you a favor. So far we have used GP for in home cat sitting and impromptu dog walking. The sitters are friendly, caring, and responsive to personal requests/preferences! We dog-sat for my daughter while she was out of the country. Due to health issues, we are unable to walk her. So my daughter arranged for Green Paws to walk the dog every other day to give her some outside time and exercise other than in the backyard. Chris was her walker, and was he terrific! It pains me to write this review update, but I can't put my name on Green Paws anymore. I've been a customer for 4 years. When my last cat, Simon, was alive they were absolutely great. Leah was his regular sitter and even towards the end when I was panicked he was finally going succumb to the cancer when I was out of town for work (my worst nightmare) he didn't, and she was great and even sent me a few texts to reassure me. (Texting is not the norm for them like it is with other companies, FYI.) Simon has since passed and last fall I adopted a new kitty, Grayson. I've used Green Paws a few times when I've gone out of town and things seemed okay, but off. For one, when I would email I would always request Leah since I had met her, was comfortable with her, and trusted her. One of the weekends I was out of town I returned home to find someone else had been there - that's cool, she's obviously allowed time off, but if I'm requesting someone who isn't available a heads up would have been nice. I then referred one of my friends to Green Paws. I don't know all the details of what happened, but for their initial meeting they rescheduled and then didn't even show up the second time. Needless to say, my friend went with someone else. (I was later told by John they didn't show because of a life or death situation with one of their sitters. Ok, fine. But don't tell me that - tell my friend who you no showed and never bothered to follow up with.) Apparently they don't need or want new business. Noted. Then the sales pitches started. I started getting an invoice every month even if I had a zero balance, which, whatever. I can press the delete key. But each monthly email came with a sales pitch for whatever new service they were offering, or begging for reviews on Angie's list or here. (If you look closely at this page you'll see several new reviews in the same time frame. Also, mixed in with real photos are a bunch of stock photos of pets? Really?) It all just seemed....so unlike them. This time of year I travel quite a bit for work, and so I booked them for a trip I had coming up. I again requested Leah, and when my visit was confirmed they tried to sell me a de-shedding treatment. Again with the sales pitch. I declined. When I returned home from my trip, I discovered a few things: - some strange guy was in my condo, not Leah as I had requested. Again, I don't appreciate strangers in my home without prior notice. It's not hard to tell me that when you're already replying to my email - maybe lose the sales pitch and actually communicate with me about who is going to be in my home? Just a suggestion. - they didn't even show up for the second visit. I have no idea what time they'd been there the day before (the new guy didn't put times on his notes like Leah does), and my flight got in very late the following evening. Missing a visit? SO not okay. I hope the new guy enjoyed getting tipped for a visit he never did. - the new guy left my deadbolt unlocked. Not cool. I emailed John right away, and he was "mortified" and apologized. He didn't charge me for the first visit and offered to make it right. I'm not really sure how you can make it right - at this point the trust has been broken. I shared the above feedback with him, requested my keys be returned, and we have officially parted ways. Maybe Green Paws grew too big too fast. Maybe they're struggling. I have no idea what is happening behind the scenes, I just know they are not the same company I was used to and I don't like it. If you're a regular user and have no issues, great. If you're searching for new services, clearly a lot of other people here are happy with their services - I used to be one of those people too. Hopefully they've learned from this and do better for their future customers. *EDIT - I'd like to point out that in their "response" below they failed to apologize for my biggest and most concerning complaint - NOT SHOWING UP. The way things are with review sites, it is hard to imagine that anyone can run a business these days with just so-so customer service. The review below is a perfect example of an experience I had with this company about 4 years ago. Normally I wouldn't have been quite as harsh, but at the time I lived in an area that was basically a service wasteland - I could barely get a pizza delivered much less a pet sitter. That plus the girl I dealt with really rubbed me the wrong way. However, I got a message from the new owner recently who explained that the company had been revamped and it was quite different than in '08. He wanted me to give them another chance (also to remove the original review, which is a no-no! I am quite happy to update it though) which couldn't have come at a better time since I had just started a class that would take up all of my Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. And so far, everything has gone extremely smooth. My dog gets a break during the day, I get a note at night telling me what happened during the visit, and I am pretty pleased overall. Look folks, if you are going to have a business and run it properly, I shouldn't have to quote "Sales 101 Techniques" to you. Like #1: When someone emails you expressing interest in your service, do not schedule an appointment with them in their home and then simply don't show up. As time is very valuable, it is hard to sit and wait around for an hour with no phone call or email explaining what is going on. #2: When that potential client calls you, 2 hours later, to ask what's up, do not just blithely say "Oh, yeah, I have been sick (? what? we just made this appointment the day before!). So sorry. Do you want to reschedule, or not?'" Because the answer is going to be Not. If I cant count on you to want to sell me your service, how can I count on you to want to take care of my animals when I am away? #3: First impressions are key and trust (especially when dealing with peoples pets) is a huge deal. If you are going to be in this line of work, then unfortunately, you have to be even more vigilant and impressive than in some other field. If not, then I gotta take my business elsewhere. And to clarify, this is not an "angry" review. Irritated and annoyed, yes, but not angry. I want to support local businesses as much as I can, so it upsets me when people think they can either squeak by with so-so service instead of excellent service, or make an egregious error but then think it's OK by just saying "oops, sorry". I hired Green Paws to walk my dog earlier last week, and scheduled them for Monday, 6/20 (2 walks that day as I was going to be gone 12 hours) and then 2 walks on Saturday 6/18. I met with one of their managers and the walker before hiring them. The walker showed up for both walks on Saturday, but showed for neither of them Monday, 6/20. My dog is new to being alone and is still a relative puppy, and had 2 accidents in the house. When I called Green Paws after I got home (and saw the accidents and no notes from the walker), they said they'd call me back Tuesday a.m. with more info. I asked to talk to the owner as being a dog walking service, completely skipping walks after I put trust in them (with my dog and my home), I felt it was unacceptable to miss a day. They had no explanation that night. I called again early afternoon Tuesday as I had not heard from anyone, and was told that it was a scheduling error. I again reminded them that there's really no situation where this would be okay, and given it was my SECOND day with them - it made no sense to me. I asked to have my keys returned, and they said they would do so this afternoon. I came home after they confirmed my keys were returned, but they weren't here. Turns out they put them under the wrong apartment door. Seemingly nice people, but incredibly disorganized and it appears inexperienced dog walkers and/or inexperienced in how to run a company that provides a pretty important service - one which we're asked to entrust with our homes and members of our family. Never did get a call from the owner, and after 24 hours I figure missing dog walks (when that's what you do) would have been a fairly important issue to respond to. I absolutely would stay away. There are likely plenty of good, responsible, experienced dog walkers in this city - I just need to find them. read more

I ended up choosing Green Paws because: 1) We wanted someone to check on our cat EVERY OTHER DAY not EVERY DAY. It is the policy of some cat sitters to check on your pet every day you are out of town. 2) John was the first to get back to me. 3) They're green. It's always good to support a company that cares about the environment. John came to our place for a meeting. In situations like these, I am Type A and had phone numbers and other pertinent information typed up and ready to go, so this made for a quick meeting. Anna was our sitter and left detailed notes of her visits (including that we have a beautiful cat--why yes, we do!). Four months ago on a Friday afternoon, I impulsively adopted Noodles, not exactly realizing that I would need a dog walker that very same weekend between 9-10PM. While at the adoption center, I was frantically calling half a dozen dog walking companies to see if anyone would be available to walk my new pup at such an inconvenient time, but most companies seem to only serve clients who work Monday-Friday-9-5 type jobs. Well, that's not the case for me. At the time, I was working 7PM-7AM, including weekends; and me being the semi-selfish person that I am, just assumed that there would be someone out there to walk my dog in less than 24 hour's notice and late at night on a weekend... Then Green Paws came to the rescue! One of the staff members at the adoption center suggested Green Paws, and I was immediately able to set up a consultation appointment with one of the owners the following morning. Talk about last minute convenience and flexibility! I fell in love instantly. Their flexibility amazes me, sometimes I feel like I'm their only client, which of course I know is not true. There have been several times where I have had to cancel, reschedule, or request a walk with just a few hours notice and they have always been accommodating. We've had a few minor problems along the way like my doorman not letting the dog walker into the apartment or Noodles not being in the apartment when the walker arrived, but none of these problems have ever been at fault of Green Paws-- it has always been because of me--and that is why I am so appreciative of them. Since the dog walkers started VERY shortly after I adopted Noodles, I could not share very much information about his personality, likes/dislikes/walking route preferences, etc. Over the past four months, it has been a growing process for all of us and we have been able to share our new discoveries about Noodles. They tell me about certain routes Noodles likes to take, or that he loves getting into garbage while I am gone. They leave great messages to return home to and always follow-up with me at the end of the walk with a brief text message, which puts me at ease. I recently moved and switched to a day-time work schedule, and the ever-accommodating Green Paws is still with me. Without them, I would be a worry-wart at work... and Noodles probably would have destroyed the apartment! read more

Green Paws saved our vacation! My husband and I have not been on a trip without the dogs in 3 years because our older girl has some serious health problems. Two other pet sitting businesses turned us down due to her special needs, but Green Paws introduced us to Kelli who took care of our two dogs and two cats in our home while we were in Spain for a week. Our older dog needs three pills a day, she's a finicky eater, and she can't always make it outside to pee and poo. None of this phased Kelli and she handled our older dog's dogs special needs while attending to everyone else too. Our younger dog got even more attention and walks than my husband and I are able to give him when we are home. We returned after 8 days to 4 happy, healthy pets, who didn't even miss us and the house was as just clean as we'd left it, which is not easy to maintain with four pets. My husband thinks that our younger dog likes Kelli more than him now! (Probably because she walks him for longer :-) The pricing was also much more reasonable that I was expecting when initially researching pet sitting. Frankly, for as great as the service was, I would have paid more. Thank you Green Paws and Kelli for letting my husband and I go on vacation! She's a rescue dog, and I relocated her from South Carolina to Chicago when she was only six months old. Talk about shell-shocked and scared. She wouldn't eat the first couple of days home, and I was at a complete and utter loss. Here comes Barb, the owner of Green Paws. We set a meeting and Barb immediately bonded with Dixie and got her to eat. Amazing! You can tell that she really loves and knows dogs well. Also worth mentioning is Barb's right-hand man, John. He's so quick to respond via email. You can set up appointments, cancel appointments, do whatever via email--very convenient while you're working. While there was a little turnover in the beginning ( I think the business was still a bit new then), my dog Charlie has had the same walker, Leah, for quite some time and she is great. I love that Green Paws is so exceptionally flexible with me. I have, on more than one occasion, given them less than 24 hours notice (because that's all I had) that I needed to schedule a walk for the next day for my dog, Lee, and then had to cancel the day of because my work schedule changed, yet again. Even writing this irritates me, but they take it all in stride and don't make me feel like a jerk. On our first meeting with John at Green Paws, who was on time, my dog was literally crawling all over him - and he's a good 35 pounds. But it didn't even make John a little uncomfortable and I knew he was a true dog person and someone I could entrust with the care of my pup. Greens Paws has been nothing put responsive and caring with our 3 fur babies over the past year. We moved to the West Side of the City and had to switch from our established pet sitter but Green Paws was the absolute right move. I kind of suck at requesting our sitter within a reasonable amount of time but we always seem to find someone. If our regular person is not available, we are assigned another sitter who is always so kind to our fur babies! Without fail, we get picture updates or videos of all 3 cats while we are away. I'm a crazy cat mom and usually type up detailed instructions and the sitters never have any issues or think I'm insane. Actually, maybe they do but just don't say it out loud (thanks anyway, I know I'm riding the crazy train) We have two kitties that run and hide with new people but the sitters always manage to hunt them down and get pictures of them cowering in the corner. This somehow sets me at ease. Of course the majority of the pictures are of the 3rd cat who is a giant camera hog. She is super happy when we have visitors, of course, but it makes it better that they are kind and caring and appease her attention kitty ways. We get an invoice near the end of the month with our total. My one suggestion would be to find a different way to do this because at the end of the month I've always forgotten what we owe and what is coming out of our bank account. Short Version - Highly recommended!: - Communication = A++ - Prices: Very reasonable, GREAT discount for first time subscribers - Friendly Staff Details (Because yes, I am a crazy puppy parent): This is my first time using a professional dog walking service (I just got my 4 month old lab 7 weeks ago). I chose Green Paws because 1) Their yelp reviews were stellar and 2) They have a "first time client discount" which as a new dog owner, was a massive relief considering how pricey the first month of pet ownership can be. The thing that stands out to me the most is their superior level of communication. From an administrative standpoint, emails/phone calls get responded to within the hour, if not sooner. From a walker standpoint, the walkers utilize a small white board to jot down daily notes so when you get home you know what time they were there and what happened (including potty stuff which isn't always pleasant, but kind of a need-to-know when you have a puppy who is working on good potty training habits). A recent example of excellent service: I received an email letting me know that my walker needed the day off. Not only was this email a week in advance, but they also told me who they were sending out as the replacement (someone I had met before and was familiar with). Also, a note on the first meet and greet. Our walker and the field manager came by to meet us and our pup. The field manager (Jake) was so sweet, very attentive, listened politely and took diligent notes. Callie, our walker, spent the entire time bonding with our puppy. My fiancé thought this was weird ("Why isn't she talking to us?"), but it was clear Cailie knew where her priorities were and knew that getting the dog familiar with her was most important. After months of using Green Paws dog walking for our little puppy Louie I decided it was time for a review. Before finding Green Paws I was a serious crazy lady with calling all the other local dog walking companies. What else was really important to me was an orientation meeting before I hired anyone...I wanted to meet the person walking my dog & entering my home every day! Natasha at Green Paws is wonderful!! I request her any time we are out of town. She does a wonderful job taking care of our cat and sends sweet pictures of her cuddling him every day. But what really makes Natasha amazing is how she is always paying attention to our house, too. During our last trip, our cleaning ladies left the sliding door open and rain blew inside our house. Natasha alerted me and cleaned it up (and I asked my sister to make sure that nothing had been stolen while the house was open). And on our most recent trip, my car was being towed (temporary tow zone signs posted while we were away), and Natasha was trying to figure out if they could tow car to our garage in the back. I've been using Green Paws to watch my cats when I am out of town for about 8 months now. John came over to meet my cats the first time. He was very friendly and made sure to ask all the right questions. He even offered to water the plants and bring in the mail for us! At the time I didn't have an extra set of keys so he was very flexible with scheduling when/where I could give him my keys. Each time Green Paws comes by they leave a detailed note AND text me to give me an update on the cats. The one time that one of the sitters forgot to text while she was there, I just called John and he checked the records and assured me the visit had occurred, then the sitter texted me within 5 minutes with a more detailed update. The litter box is always clean, the food and water dishes are always full, and the cats always seem happy when I get home. Like another review said, they will come over as often or seldom as you like, so usually they come to see my cats every other day when I am out of town, which is great. Once they even brought a 30 pound box of cat food I had delivered upstairs for me while I was gone! They are very reasonably priced considering everything they take care of, and I recommend them to all of my friends with pets! read more

Green Paws is THE BEST! If it's any indicator, I'm an absolute nut job about my dogs. I'd never had a dogwalking service before . . . 'cause I'm so paranoid! But, the time came and there was no choice. It didn't take long at all for me to know I could trust Green Paws with my pups. Everything was cemented one day when I stayed home from work sick. I went ahead and kept that day's scheduled walk and when the dog walker came, my dogs ran to her like she would any of my friends or family. So much love! That's when I knew for sure Green Paws was the right choice! They're extremely organized and super-friendly. Always in communication about anything that may come up. Most importantly, they take excellent care of my dogs. I would recommend Green Paws to anyone looking for friendly, reliable, and affordable dog walkers. read more

I've been using Green Paws for about 3 years now and they have been fantastic! I've had a couple of sitters from the service, but Brian is my fav! I'm a bit obsessed with my 2 cats (I even have cat cameras so I can see what they are doing when I'm not at home). I don't like taking long trips because the cats are super high maintenance and I feel bad leaving them alone. Lucy is bulimic and therefore vomits after almost every meal and they are both just constantly starved for attention, no matter how much I give them. But recently, I had to go away for 2 weeks and feel really great about the attention they were given. The service was great about getting a sitter at the last minute and made sure it was the same person every day. I prefer this to having different people come in and see the cats because then that person gets to know the cats a little bit better. Brian P. was awesome! He sent me emails every day about the cats and kept me well informed about Lucy's vomiting habits and even noticed this crazy limp Sydney has when she walks on a certain rug (I'm serious- it's a limp, but only on one rug- the rest of the rugs and carpet are fine). He updated me with their activities (the laser, brushing and sitting on laps in general are some of their favs), and he even spent EXTRA time with them a few times. He even came by for two visits in ONE day once! I feel really good about leaving my cats with Brian and would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants a good cat sitter. He's definitely a great "cat" person. One more thing- when I was initially trying to find a pet service, they were all requiring 2 sets of keys and I thought this was really inconvenient because I only have 2 sets and it's expensive to get another set made. But Green Paws was totally cool with only 1 set. And whenever I need the extra set from them, it's really easy to just contact them and pick them up and drop them off again.
