The cat cafe here is amazing!! The value is outstanding for what you get: $10 each for 30 minutes in the room AND any typical coffee shop drink; yes, even specialty lattes, cappuccinos, and matcha (made with powder!!). Better yet, you can have a party of one to four people and you will have the room all to yourself. I would say the only drawback is apparently there are sometimes a lot less cats but we had 5 cats and it was a great time. The cats all have FIV so don't get too attached if you have a healthy cat at home!

Hi. I adopted a almost 3 month old kitten at the Tree House Humane Society on April 5th 2025. He was born on January 29th 2025. He turn 4 months old May 29th 2025. He Is a Sweet Kitty, Is affectionate and Playful. I Love him dearly. His name Is Noah, after the man that God told to build an Ark. I am grateful for adopting a Lovely Kitten. Here's a Photo of him In this photo Noah is about 3 months old. I Thank You Kindly for a Sweet an Lovely Kitten. Here's another Photo of Noah sitting In the window, Don't worry the window Is Closed.

Avoid at all costs. Seems like a flaky organization and a background check should be conducted about the shelter to make sure that the money goes to take care of pets. I arrived at the shelter 30 minutes before they close, I drove from far away paid much money to get there just to be told that I can't enter because they close soon and the employees wanted to go home. The waiting area is near the merchandise area because the shelter cares more about selling items than people adopting pets or donating money for the pets. I wanted to make a generous contribution but the staff totally discriminated against me. A shelter who hides their pets on the upper floor and not show their pets to the public, is not credible. Shelter employees who only care about going home early and ignore people who visit are not credible. I donate money on regular basis to pet shelters and it's the first time I see a shelter that behaves in such manner. Totally insulting and disrespectful. It's shameful that the employees just want to get home and not care about their animals.

The cafe is a special place. My boyfriend took me here while in town for the weekend. We enjoy going to cat cafes in different cities when we can including LA, Fort Lauderdale, NYC, and DC. We really loved the quaintness of the cafe and that the staff member made themselves available to answer all our questions. They were also our barista as well as walk ins! All of the cats were sweet and active on a Saturday around 230pm. One thing that made this cafe special was all cats were FeLV positive. Cat that's tend to be overlooked despite being able to live productive lives. Applause to tree house for helping dispel misinformation on these as well as other amazing cats!

I'm literally obsessed with this place! I got to mix my passions for coffee and animals. The shelter is very clean and the staff is very helpful and nice. There is parking so for my fellow drivers, you don't have to worry about parking on the street. It costs $10 per person and includes one beverage. I got the salted caramel latte and it was great. My sister got the hot chocolate and just like every kid she wanted more. Honestly, I think this place is fantastic. For 30 min you are welcomed to pet the cats and play with them. Probably the only negative was having to wear masks but I guess they are staying on the cautious side. Lastly, you can go to their website where you schedule a visit for 90 min and you can pick a cat to adopt. WOWZA I think that it's amazing what this non for profit organization is doing and I would go there again. After all, one decent coffee is $5-7 if not more, so you pay less than $5 to play with the cats!!

After 2 years of not having a kitty roommate I was ready to adopt again. The entire staff and experience at Tree House was amazing. The facility is very clean and the cats are in cozy "colonies" filled with toys and plenty of space. Greg and Karen showed me the cats I had seen on the website and spent a lot of time with me to tell me about them, their health status, personality trait (shy, prefers to be with other cats..), etc. I fell in love with 5 1/2 yr old George (formerly Trunks). The adoption fee is so reasonable as the cats have their shots, have been spayed, neutered and are chipped. it's been 1 week and he has been the perfect cuddly playful companion already. I highly recommend you visit Tree House if you are looking to get that special kitty a furever home.

Back at the beginning of 2016 I adopted my two kitty babies from the former Treehouse location in Wicker Park. It went seamlessly and I love my two girls to death. Fast forward two years and I was in a last minute time crunch to grab a large crate; I needed to do some socializing with a new cat we were housing for a little while. I called Treehouse knowing they offer the crates for two weeks at a time free of charge. My interactions over the phone with one of their employees was absolutely HORRENDOUS. She kept accusing me of needing the crate for "catch and release," which I assured her I wasn't, yet she continued to push and pressure me. I mentioned that I had borrowed the crate before, back when I first adopted, and she countered by saying "that's why the Wicker Park location closed. I don't know who allowed you to do that. We have new policies now." Upon actually making it Treehouse and dealing with another employee in person, I felt 100x better. Elizabeth is a real gem, and how all employees should be. She made the process easy peasy, and even remembered me a week later when I came to return the crate. (She called me Sabina and felt bad for not remembering my name correctly. Did I mention she is such a gem?!) Overall, aside from the single negative employee, I have nothing but positives to say about Treehouse. Beautiful space, adorable kitties and they always try to go above and beyond to make your adoption smooth. Two thumbs up.

It's our first time here.. Discovered this through Nextdoor app last week. Since my son's are into cats (we presently have a dog), so we gave it a try today. Our appointment time to play with the cats (only maximum of 5 people are allowed to play with the cats every 30 minutes) was 4pm. There were 4 cats inside but we actually just played with 2 (Felicia and Dakota).. The other two cats were inside the kennel (Dr. Jones was chilling out because he got too excited before we came; and Little Leo is still not acclimated to the environment yet).. These cats, except for Little Leo (I think) are ready to be adopted. This facility only accepts stray felines. After our experience with the Cafe, we went up to check for other cats ready for adoption. They are adorable. They are open Thursday to Sunday from 12nn to 6pm. The weekdays are for appointments only.

My boyfriend and I go on occasional nightly walks and usually pass by this place. A week ago, I finally saw a cat in one of their windows and he was so engaging that I couldn't so thinking about him. I ended looking up the cats and found him, Fitz. I made an appointment to see him and was blown away with the inside of this place. It's huge, bright, and very welcoming. Despite having Fitz in mind, they allowed me to see all the cats. I never once felt pressure to make a decision even though they do have a time constraint per covid rules. The majority of the cats were sweet and social. A few were a little shy, but still okay with being pet. Lots of adorable kittens! I couldn't give up Fitz though. After playing with him a second time during this visit, I went through with his adoption. The process was easy and informative. They give you information on how to introduce the new cat to your home, feeding, medical history, and Treehouse policies. Not that I would want to give back an animal I've adopted, I admire their policy that accepts their adoptees back into Treehouse at any time. I wasn't sure if my current cat would be okay with a new guy in the house and this policy made the decision way easier. This is his first morning in the home and he can already share a room with my other cat. They're not friends yet, but him being so chill and patient is helping this process move along. In the photos, Fitz is the black cat and Titty is the orange cat. Thank you, Treehouse! **Fun fact: my great aunt (RIP) adopted her last cat from Treehouse back in the day.

    I love this plate!

There were so many organizational details involved in this day and I couldn't have been more impressed with the way Chicago Cares handled them...the check- in process was about 2 seconds (I was expecting about a 1/2 hour due to the size of the event), they had plenty of well trained volunteers on hand who actually knew what was going on, and everything ran right on schedule. Hats off to the Chicago Cares staff- they sure do know how to organize an event! It was absolutely heartbreaking to see the conditions of the school that we visited. I'm not exactly fond of painting and it was an exhausting day, but it made me feel good that we were able to help these kids by making the conditions of their school livable! We recently did two days of service with Humble Design, helping clean, furnish, and decorate a home for a family on each day. Then we spent the rest of the day cleaning and moving furniture into the home. When I say "we" moved furniture I of course mean the impressive professionals working with Humble Design and my co-workers. They were incredibly efficient at loading and unloading everything. The designers had met with the family prior to our day of service and had little details like which Disney character was the daughters favorite, and what super hero the son wanted to be for Halloween. Here goes:…read more When my father decided it was time to sell his apartment building and move to a supportive living situation, Covenant Home came to the fore, as it is part of Chicago Methodist Senior Services. And as Steve Z. commented, searching for an assisted living facility is indeed an education in itself and totally new territory for me. The staff at Covenant helped us navigate the ins and outs of the application process, which as you can imagine, complicated. Financial records, doctors' assessments, TB test, all in the mix. To the building: It was built in 1997, so is relatively new, well-maintained, with a caring (yes, I said that, though I realize that is often just a buzzword in reviews of these types of enterprises.) staff. The meals are tasty and well-balanced. Residents sit 4 to a table with fresh flowers, nice silverware, and always water (so no dehydration, per the reviewer from 5 years ago). (They also have a water cooler w/lemons in the foyer). On Sundays they put white linen tableclothes on the dining tables, which, together with the flowers, makes for a very nice setting. In all, there are about 54 residents, with either studio apartments or 1 bedroom. The floors are all wood and nicely maintained, fresh paint upon move-in, the better to navigate with walkers, etc. The building has Comcast cable available. Residences are equipped with small refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, sink in a little "kitchen" area. Two closets, and ample cabinets in the bathroom. The five floors are built in a square around an atrium, which gives the place a nice airy feeling. All the rooms' windows are outward facing. The bathroom has a level floored shower for safety and there are pull chains all over the place for residents to pull if in distress. There are daily activities for residents, trips to Jewel and Walgreens if you are not mobile enough to go on your own. Filling the day: Evening movies, afternoon coffee in a very cute cafe, balance class, art class, current events, Bible study, word games, bingo, ballroom dancing, tai chi, Sunday worship (Methodist), a Tuesday Mass, manicures, watercolors, culture chats (not sure what that is). An RN is on site most of the time and he or she keeps good track of dispensing medications for all residents. And, if there is a health crisis, Swedish Covenant Hospital is right across the street! This is not a memory care type of place. For that, they have Wesley Place, further east on Foster. Residents have varying ranges of mobility. My father goes to his own medical appointments (right at the corner), takes taxis or walks to close by destinations such as Lincoln Square and the Tre Kroner Restaurant. So, all in all, he was fortunate to secure a studio here. And since I live in Oakland, CA, it's important to feel that he is safe and in good hands. Covenant Home provides that security and care.

It's been a year and four months, and I am happy to say the result has been better than I expected. My mom moved into the Covenant Home in September of 2012. She was 90 at that time, and had been living at the North Shore Retirement Hotel in Evanston. During her 6 years at the North Shore she progressed from being fairly self-sufficient to needing help with some of her daily care, and she had more and more difficulty dealing with things in general, as her memory was getting worse. During her last year at North Shore she was hospitalized twice, she had poor appetite, was losing weight and she was depressed. She also had a couple physical conditions that required some daily attention. We had hired a helper for her and also contracted with the on site home nursing company at the North Shore, but their services were not enough. After she moved into the Covenant Home her appetite began to improve, and it's no longer an issue at all. The chronic problems she was having previously are under control, she is consistently in good spirits, and she has made friends there. Although she was not happy to make this move, she is now quite happy there, and says so. This is a much better outcome than I anticipated and I believe it is due the competency of the staff, the fact the quality of her care is consistent, and an intangible aspect: that the culture there is one of attentive kindness. The care she gets at the Covenant Home is a mix of residential and medical- they take care of making sure she gets her meds, cleaning of her studio apartment, dressing, dining, getting ready for bed, all that. Additionally, they they keep up with any ongoing medical care she needs, they make doctor appointments, and if necessary provide transportation. The are proactive in her care in terms of the medical, hygienic and social aspects. If you feel like hearing more about this I would be happy to correspond. I have way too many books, physical books, since I read almost exclusively on my kindle at this…read morepoint. Enter Open Books. Now I started going through books in April 2020, but wasn't keen on interacting with folks, and it took until February 2022 for me to feel comfortable contacting them for pickup. They are experiencing a backlog at the moment--I submitted the pickup form in February, was contacted around March 30, and they came to my area April 19--but I've had these books hanging around for literal years waiting to be donated so a few more weeks was no big deal to me; I mention it only so that if you're on the fence you know to get on their list! Pickup was fairly easy. They don't take books in boxes larger than specific dimensions, so we had to pull them out of the boxes they've been in and out them in plastic bags instead. We ended up with 13 bags filled to the brim! There seemed to be a bit of a mixup, in that the Google form I submitted said I'd have 4 boxes and then when they contacted six weeks later to say they'd be in our neighborhood I said 13 bags since the boxes were too big; the person who came for the pickup mentioned a couple times how this was "not four boxes"... I mean, I'm sorry that there's a disconnect on your end? I checked my email to make sure I hadn't misunderstood, but I did indeed respond to the confirmation email to tell them I'd have 13 bags (their mail asked to confirm the pickup amount). So whatever administrative issue there is where they don't accurately update is annoying but not a problem if my making, and anyway she took them all. I'll definitely continue donating books here or the library (if the library takes books), but probably will take them to one of their drop boxes in the future if I use Open Books. That's in part because I don't want to deal with the kind of weird, somewhat annoyed an hostile attitude from the pickup person, but mostly because I probably won't have a pickup this large again in the future and don't want to have to wait 6-8 weeks for the pickup.
