I decided to give it several months before returning, and after being back for the past two months, I'm happy to say I've seen noticeable positive changes--especially in the cleanliness of the facility. It's clear effort was made to listen to feedback and improve the experience for both dogs and owners. ------------------------- original review: I've completed our 10-day "All Day Play" package here, along with a few overnight stays, so I feel I can provide a fair and thorough assessment of our experience with Wag Hotels West Loop. We moved from California recently, where we were loyal clients of Wag Hotels in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica. Naturally, I was relieved to discover a Wag Hotels location right in my new Chicago neighborhood. Unfortunately, my experience here has been completely different--and, frankly, extremely disappointing. Concerns: * Strong odor of dog waste: The lobby consistently smells overwhelmingly of dog waste. If the front area smells this way, it raises serious concerns about the cleanliness of the actual play areas. It's disheartening to see management responses on other reviews claiming they "take cleanliness seriously" when my experience, every single visit, says otherwise. This probably explains why I have to give my dog a bath after every daycare stay....he is filthy and smells like he's been swimming in a pool of pee when he comes home. * Lack of compassion for the dogs: During one of Bowie's stays, I called to check in and was told he seemed quiet and anxious. I asked if someone could simply pet or comfort him for a moment, as he loves human contact. The staff member told me they could not, citing that it would show "favoritism" and cause other dogs to bully him. Not only is this explanation puzzling (especially given I've witnessed staff picking up and doting on other dogs), it also suggests a lack of individualized care for dogs who may need extra reassurance. * Alarming handling by staff: One evening around 8:10 pm, I arrived to pick up my dog. While waiting to be buzzed in, I heard dogs barking in the back behind the employee entrance --followed by a male staff member screaming at the top of his lungs, "shut the f*** up." When I brought this up to the front desk, the staff denied hearing anything and refused to share who was working with the dogs. I called the next morning and spoke to the manager, Janette, who thankfully took this seriously and promised to address it. Still, it's unsettling to know individuals who clearly lack the patience or temperament for this job are in charge of our dog's wellbeing. * Inconsistent staff communication: There seems to be very little consistency in how staff are trained. I've received different answers to the same questions from multiple employees--ranging from pricing details to basic policies. This inconsistency is confusing and does not inspire confidence. What they do well: * 24/7 staff coverage: Unlike many local daycares that leave the facility unattended overnight (only monitoring via cameras), Wag Hotels has staff on-site around the clock. This was a major factor in choosing them initially. * Cameras for owners: They offer cameras in the play areas so owners can check in throughout the day--something not all Chicago daycares provide. Final thoughts: As valuable as those pros are, they aren't enough for me to continue bringing my dog here. I ultimately finished out my pre-paid package because refunds weren't an option, but I'm grateful I can share a balanced, multi-visit perspective rather than a single one-off experience. I hope this feedback encourages Wag Hotels West Loop to re-evaluate their staff training, address cleanliness more rigorously, and reinforce a culture of true compassion and patience for the dogs entrusted to their care

I will be honest--there was an incident on the live camera feed that was very upsetting to witness, and I was ready to pick Kuma up the next morning. As a rescue puppy, seeing her mishandled by an employee broke my heart. What made the difference was how quickly and professionally Kate, the managerbresponded. She called me within minutes of my email, listened to my concerns, showed genuine empathy, and immediately put my mind at ease. The team took my concerns seriously and ensured Kuma was never placed under that employee's care again. Because of how Kate and her staff handled the situation, I decided to give it couple more days. Kuma was happy, well cared for and enjoyed playtime. Today, Kuma attends daycare twice a week, has a monthly pool pass, and loves her time there. After we moved our kitty to another vet (Metropolitan Veterinary Center, 15th and Michigan) in July 2024, we found out the poor creature had very bad kidney stones and possible diabetes. As much as Dr Jeremy Williams examined her, he NEVER said anything to the effect that we should take her for kidney screening after she had multiple UTIs. We took urinalysis tests and other screenings. We had to switch her to kidney food by Hill's Science at some point, and control her blood sugar. In July of THIS year she became sick again with an infection, and the emergency vet did a lot of VERY expensive tests and found SO many things we did not find, not even the 'new' vet! I think the ER doc wondered what the old vet was even doing that they didn't find this many problems. I don't think this location nor the Stony Island location has the equipment to find anything serious. We had to put her down as all the problems she had at such an advanced age (15 or so) would have made her quality of life so poor. If we had moved her to the other vet sooner I am 99% sure we would have avoided more pain and discomfort for her. Avoid this place if at all possible, here AND Stony Island. We are hoping their certification becomes revoked!

He was a little nervous when I dropped him off, but he was warmed up and happy when I picked him up. I liked that the dogs could roam and were not confined to cages. The pricing was reasonable and I was able to get everything checked off his hygiene list from ears and nails to teeth and glands. The deshedding treatment has really made a difference in the amount of hair that comes off of him too! They did a great job with his nails and bath too. He smells so good and is silky smooth! I appreciate the care that Sydnee's showed my dog while he was at the spa. I felt good knowing that he was well taken care of while he was there.

I feel that it's unfair to not share my experience with others so they can make their own choices. I had 2 dogs and one was a very selective dog, meaning he didn't get along with all dogs he met. Miranda was referred to us by a friend whose dog had similar issues. When we met Miranda to see her facility, I asked her if she would be cresting the dogs when she left the building. (I asked this for a reason) she told me that if they were not crated at home, she would not crate them and they could just stay in her living space. It turns out that Miranda was crating my dogs together when she left them and that is ultimately what led to my dogs death. My selective dog could not be crated with any other dogs. If he was and anything triggered him, he would redirect onto another dog in his crate, even his brother and they would fight. This happened so Miranda came home and found that my dogs had a fight in their crate. She took the selective dog, Carson out to bathe him and ultimately left him unattended in the sink, tethered to the wall. He then tried to jump out of the sink and you can imagine the rest. We left for the weekend with 2 dogs and came back having only one.
